Columbia Heights Hit Taqueria Habanero Expands to Edgewood Next Month | Eater DC

"The newly named Bryant Street Market (formerly the Bevy) is a flashy new food hall at the base of the Chase residential building near the Rhode Island Avenue Metro station that will house the Taqueria Habanero and Bar Alegria stalls and is filling out its vendor lineup as part of MRP Realty’s Bryant Street development." - Tierney Plumb

I use to frequent Bryant St Market when I worked completing home visits. I had not been back since the pandemic, and thought I’d never get to enjoy their amazing sandwiches after learning I have celiac. Fast forward to today. I was able to select from the gf bread in the store to use for my sandwich. They took so much care to not cross contaminate and I finally got to go Bryant St Market again. It did not disappoint. So delicious. Thank you so much!

This market is a true neighborhood gem! The staff are incredibly nice, the fresh made to order sandwiches are ridiculously good, and I love being able to walk here to grab the 3 things I forgot to buy at the supermarket. Is it pricy? Yes, of course, as a small business doesn't have the buying power of a large chain supermarket. But when I have already started prepping dinner and I realize I don't have an ingredient I need, it's worth every penny.

Google
So I was so excited to find this little convenience mart So close to home that I could roll there in my wheelchair. It has a little bit of everything. I had one small problem getting in the door, but the staff and customers are always Helpful and open the door so I can get in. They go above and beyond and the sandwiches are to die for!

Google
Absolutely one of the best sandwich I have ever had. I ordered an off-the-menu vegetarian sandwich recommended by the staff (I would suggest the owner to put it on the menu :)). All the ingredients inside are super fresh. There are hummus, tomato, basil pesto, mustard, absolutely sweet onion, super fresh vegetables and freshly sliced cheese. I never knew I can taste the difference between freshly sliced cheese and already sliced cheese until today. I bought one, finished it in my car and immediately went back to have another one. I also ordered potato salad and it's also pretty good. The staff is very nice and friendly. Will definitely visit again.

Their sandwiches, fruits, and leonas ice cream sandwiches are best in highland Park

Google
Great little neighborhood grocery store with an eclectic selection of items as well as a Boars Head selection of meats and sandwich offerings. I tried their reuben. It was good, but a little different. Instead of sauerkraut they used coleslaw. And it worked well enough, except the small bits of carrot added a new flavor to your standard reuben that I'm not entirely sure worked. Still killed it, though. I also have to say, their potato salad showed great potential. The seasoning, vinegar, and sweetness was all spot on in a way that most potato salads miss the mark on. Really excellent in this regard! But there is nothing else going on either! If they added some celery and red onion this would be a top notch potato salad! Or really anything! This potato salad is just potato and dressing! I also grabbed one of the ice cream sandwiches that I've never seen before from the freezer in the back and it was tremendous! Peanut butter and concord grape ice cream sandwich, heck ya! Overall, I'll also say, their selection is impressive for their size. I will definitely be back since I now live within walking distance. I look forward to trying some more of their offerings!

Google
This is absolutely the best place in the area. Their sandwiches are amazing, and every worker there is genuinely kind and respectful. I live in the area and I wish I could visit every day!

Google
Neighborhood market and Deli. Ordered a sandwich and chips, got sundries and groceries without price gouging. Highly recommend!

Yelp
I love my neighborhood store! They take such good care of me. I'm regularly coming in for a roast beef sandwich, lettuce, tomato, mayo on rye bread and they make it just the way I ask them because I'm fussy like that. But they smile and they laugh at me when I roll my eyes and tell them that I know I'm difficult. I truly appreciate that they have high-quality fresh produce, excellent meats, pantry staples, a quality selection of crackers and cookies, Bread Works bread, and the best local ice creams. But they also have ready to bake hors d'oeuvres and fancy little tidbits for a last-minute party. I don't know what our neighborhood would do without them.

Yelp
This place is a real treat! I used to live in the area and would walk in to pick up grocery odds and ends every once in a while. I miss this place now and whenever I'm around I am very tempted to get a sandwich. They really do it right here, this is one of the best in the city. They have a great menu selection for recommendations. Everything is made to order so you can add or subtract almost anything you can think of to your sandwich. The selection of groceries and deli offerings are always fresh. The have the Boar's Head brand of deli meats and cheeses, great selection. If you dive into the grocery selection you'll find a lot of special things there, fresh, frozen and dry: Meats, cheeses/dairy, breads, snacks, condiments, baking items, beverages... Some interesting vegan options are here too. This is a very curated and enjoyable market. Shopping here got my household through some hard times during the pandemic. I can't say enough good things, if you are ever in the area you should stop in and check it out.

Yelp
We used to get lunch here everyday when working in the area. Deli sandwiches are huge and delicious I recommend the Smokey. They also have a selection of just about anything you can want like a small grocery store with very nice employees.

Yelp
Great selection overall. Very good sandwiches. Excellent service and friendly staff. Not your ordinary neighborhood market.

Yelp
I'm new to the neighborhood and decided to try a Reuben sandwich from Bryant Street Market. It was grilled with Swiss cheese and Cole slaw (still good) and corned beef on marble rye. Delicious. The corned beef was perfect. I'll be back for another one of these sandwiches and will check out some of the other sandwiches. Plus, they sell every kind of chip/snack, dairy cooler with bacon, hummus, nice selection of other stuff. See the pictures in their Yelp site.

Yelp
Outstanding selection and service. Great people who work there. Very family oriented and extremely comfortable to shop there .

Yelp
Awesome sandwiches and great service. Parking can be limited, however street parking is available. you can grab a couple sandwiches and head up to the park for a picnic.

Shakeil F.

Yelp
Great sandwiches, great selection of organic/ non organic products. Produce section is very fresh. Employees are hardworking and provide great service with a welcoming, neighborly character.

Yelp
For a small store, they cover a lot of bases. Great sandwiches and deli, too! And if you like ice cream and biscotti, it's paradise!!!

Pablo M.

Yelp
So glad--and grateful--to have this store in the neighborhood. Think of an upgraded convenience store with a carefully curated selection of items (tempted to use the term 'provisions' here) that you need in a pinch and those you didn't know you needed. (They had the Grey Poupon mustard I *absolutely* needed!) On my last visit, I ordered a sandwich, which was delicious. And the deli guy remade a second sandwich I ordered for a friend because, as he said, It wasn't exactly the way he likes to see it. That's service! And that's an indication of how this wonderful place, which is a welcome throwback to old-school grocers, is run. It's clean and has a small-town feel.

Bobbie H.

Yelp
My go to. I don't shop, so I'm a long time curbside/delivery patron at the local grocery stores. However, when it is absolutely necessary to go into a store this is where I go. It's close to home, its clean, there's a large variety of items and a friendly staff. The best part is I'm in and out in less than 10 minutes.

Yelp
Decent selection of produce and grocery items, deli sandwiches are good, everyone that works there is nice. Love that they carry a lot of local goods like Leona's ice cream sandwiches. Small town grocery feel even in the middle of the city. I swing by here if I just need to grab one or two things and don't want to brave Trader Joe's. Only taking a star off because the prices are pretty high but at the end of the day, it's worth it for the convenience of not having to make a whole grocery trip.

Rick M.

Yelp
Such a wonderful place in the neighborhood! The high quality food and friendly staff brings me back often. Thanks for being there for us!

Yelp
I wish more little neighborhood markets were still around. This place is perfect to get in to pick up something you need without having to deal with the hassle of going to a big name grocery store. They also have lots of different local products spread around the store. They're mostly labeled with a description of the company that the product came from. I noticed local pa honey, eggs, pierogies, and ice cream. There were also a lot of other little odd but good finds. I found a Jamaican hot sauce that I've never seen at another store in Pittsburgh and they also had sarsaparilla ( my pap pap would be proud)!
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
One of the best features of the neighborhood. The deli sandwiches are all fantastic and the pizza slices are pretty decent for the money. They sell eggs from local farmers that have the laid date written in pen on them. The difference in flavor between grocery store eggs is night and day. Near the register they always have a selection of Millie's Ice Cream sandwiches, which are brilliant and addictive.

Yelp
Really adorable neighborhood market with everything you would need! The employees are so friendly and helpful as well. I have visited here and there over the past couple years- I don't live in the area, so it's not as convenient for me to visit. Usually, I stop in when I am in the area visiting "Smiling Banana Leaf" or "Food Glorious Food" across the street. Most recently, I came with a specific product in mind. I was searching for Brunton Dairy ice cream. If you have never tried it, it's incredible- basically, the most creamy ice cream you'll ever find. And guess what? They had it here! For $8 a carton, it was a more expensive ice cream, but it's hard to find and it's well worth it. I am so happy I was able to find it at Bryant Street Market :)

Yelp
Good sandwiches !!! Well curated selection of groceries and nice staff. A local treasure. :-)

Yelp
Bryant Street Market is a compact but surprisingly well-stocked grocery store located in the heart of Highland Park's small but suddenly fast-growing business district. In addition to having everything you'd expect from the proverbial corner store (boxes of mac n cheese, pints of ice cream), Bryant Street Market also stocks many healthier, fancier options (boxes of organic mac n cheese, pints of locally-made gelato). I was excited because I scored some Maruchan brand ramen noodles there, something I had been unable to do at a handful of Giant Eagle locations, or the nearby Target, all of which only carry the incredibly-misleading brand name Top Ramen. Bryant Street Market really has almost everything you could want or need -- a wide variety of snacks and treats, an array of baking and cooking essentials, a full dairy case (with local farm-fresh eggs), organic fruits and vegetables, and a deli counter. The staff is pleasant and attentive. If you live in or around the Highland Park neighborhood, definitely give this place a visit.

Yelp
I love the produce section here! You'd think that a small place like this wouldn't have the greatest produce, but they definitely have fresh and not to mention super cheap produce. I live just a couple blocks away, and I'm so grateful to have this little shop in my neighborhood. Also, the first time I went there, they hid a soft pretzel in my bag of honeycrisp apples, which was an awesome surprise when I got home. Thanks, BSM! :)

Yelp
My family used to stop at this market all of the time - back when it was even a CoGo's market. Recently, we stopped in to pick up some beverages and snacks. We were pleased to find that it's actually got a little deli in it as well, with really awesome sandwiches!! If you happen to live in the neighborhood, you should not be quick to dismiss the freshly prepared foods that they offer. Otherwise, it's your typical neighborhood convenience store - featuring cat food, razors, bread, milk, laundry detergent - you know, all of those things you don't want to have to find yourself running all the way to Giant Eagle to purchase. You can purchase with debit or credit, but the minimum purchase is $10.

Yelp
This place rules. I don't know what the neighborhood would do without it! The employees are super nice, the sandwiches from the deli are SO good, and the snack/grocery selection is more than adequate for a little market like this. (The chocolate chip cookies by the register are perfect and only $1 for three, get them).
google avatar

Kashiff M.

Yelp
Perfect neighborhood grocery store. All the essentials and no frills. Always friendly and ready to help. Go Fridays for the ham and cheese special Yinzer Sammie. Oh and how could I forget to mention the fresh baked bread and cookies. Lots of local options that are always fresh. What are you waiting for, get over there now!

Yelp
What a great market and deli - I can't believe I've never been! We got two Boars Head sammiches that were positively LOADED with meat and cheese. I'd almost say that you could even split one. The selection of chips and other snacks, sodas, coffee, and local ice cream was impressive. Two cons: They didn't put very much of the condiments on; and, the price was a bit hefty. Two sammiches, chips, and a tub of dip was $25. But, despite the cons, I would definitely go back!

John C.

Yelp
When the Community Market closed in Fox Chapel, we we lost about where to get deli meats. We just don't buy into the Giant Eagle Market District concept. This place rocks. It carries the Boars Head meats that the Community Market carried. And if you are too lazy to make your own sandwich, they will make one for you, either custom or from their sandwich board. Everything is fresh and pretty darned tasty. And if you get there early enough, you can buy a couple of Axel's soft pretzels, which are pretty good, too.

Yelp
Wow, I was very impressed with how clean and well laid out this market was. It is definitely a neighborhood market and if it were in my neighborhood I'd give it five stars. It is also worth the drive occasionally or a stop when I have other business nearby. Some of the key features that appealed to me were a wide selection of Stewarts sodas (including diet); a nice variety of coffee beans and a grinder (I may be back to pick up a bag of coffee soon), an extensive set of deli selections and some high end ice cream products. I lived in Highland Park years ago and had I stayed I'm sure I would stop a couple times a week.

E S.

Yelp
I have lived in Highland Park for 27 years and have been a longtime patron of the Bryant Street Mkt and its predecessor, always wanting to give locally-owned businesses a leg up. My one-star rating is not about the quality of the market's products. In fact, it's a great market with great sandwiches and groceries. The problem is with the owner! Simply put, he's either ridiculously passive aggressive or blatently rude. I have long been put-off by his demeanor, but now I'm done. This week, I called ahead and placed an order for sandwiches and pizza. As always, he begrudgingly took my order and replied, "ten minutes." I killed time at the bakery across the street. I arrived at the Bryant Market 12 minutes after placing my order (smart phone confirmed!) and politely identified myself to him as the woman who placed the phone order. To let him know I had arrived. Reasonable? I thought so. His response to a really good customer who greeted him with a smile: "that's why I told you ten minutes." WHAT!?! I'll help you on this one with other possible responses you could've used, owner of business that deals with the public everyday: "Hi, we're still working on your order." Or, "Thanks for calling ahead. The pizza takes a little while to heat. We'll holler when it's ready." Or a simple and succinct: "Five more minutes." There are literally a million other ways that you could've responded without making a nice woman like me dislike you. Why do you treat at least some of your customers with such contempt?

William E.

Yelp
This place is fantastic. The perfect place to grab essentials, and then some! Several years ago when I lived here this place struck me as dicy. I don't know what it was at the time - possibly that Bryant Street was relatively bereft of active storefronts, maybe the one time when I went in and got a weird vibe from the clientele in the parking lot, maybe I was just new to the city and not in tune with the neighborhood yet. Whatever the reason, I have come to like this place. It is a small grocery store, with all the essentials. They have pretty average prices on most things, but produce and fresh stuff is a steal. My girlfriend stopped in recently and got more Honey Crisp Apples than I've ever seen for $3 and change. Also, they dropped in a free soft pretzel for her. Did you hear that? THEY HAVE SOFT PRETZELS. (i have a personal quest to find the best soft pretzel in the world. These aren't bad at all!) I've also stopped in here before to grab a copy of the Post-Gazette. Something about holding that physical copy on a Saturday morning when you have nothing else to do is really relaxing and satisfying. My only word of warning is that there is a minimum on Credit Card purchases. I cannot blame them for this as they get charged a transaction fee for each, and being a small local operation they need to keep an eye on their bottom line. Just don't expect to walk in and buy a half-dozen eggs with plastic. Check them out!

Mike R.

Yelp
I live right around the corner. In the area is Whole Foods, Super Target, Trader Joe's, and Giant Eagle Market District. While I do most of my shopping elsewhere, this place is great for it's purpose: get in and get out for quick items. They have produce, many organic canned items, snack foods, delicious house-made treats (says my lady), a freezer section with some typical stuff but also meatless/vegan items, and a slew of other things. It's definitely worth checking out. They'll have your typical brand and then next to the organic variety. Very unique. I'll add that typically with small groceries I find the produce is bad or near bad, this stuff is pretty darn fresh. They're also very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Oh YAY a walkable alternative to Shadyside's insanely hectic grocery options. They have a little of everything standard. Nice dudes, too. I don't shop for more than one thing @ a time...ever..., so it was perfect for finding pepper flakes, baking soda, and veggies. Sweet.

George B.

Yelp
Best subs in the city... I grew up in the Philly area where we hold our sandwich-makers to much higher standards (sorry Pittsburghers but when you hold up that slop they serve at Primanti's as your best, we can't discuss sandwiches) .... I moved to Pittsburgh 7 years ago and had been searching the city and the suburbs in vain for someplace that makes a good deli sandwich - fresh roll that is crisp on outside and soft inside, good quality and quantity of cheese and meat, fresh produce .. Finally, I have found such a place in Bryant Street Market. Will not go anywhere else for subs now. And one more thing - the staff is always cheerful and eager to help....

Yelp
This is a great place to have nearby. They have boars head deli meat, which is just the best. I haven't tried the sandwiches yet, but plan on it. It is very convenient and has all the right food necessities for a quick run to the store.

Yelp
Fabulous. Makes our neighborhood so much nicer. I love the organic eggs and produce and milk and everything else. Plus they make great sandwiches.

Laura E.

Yelp
My favorite place to pick up freshly made sandwiches! I stop here on every visit I make to the area to visit family and I stop on my way home to buy a sandwich for the road. You can't beat the friendly atmosphere. Terrific market for picking up items to make supper. Takes me back to another time.

Ray R.

Yelp
Friendly service, lots of organic and locally sourced choices with more being added all the time. This place used to be a bit of a dive, but since Rob has taken over it is a joy to shop there. They are beginning to clean up the exterior now that the inside of the store is pleasant. Who needs to go to Whole Paycheck or T.J.s when there is such a nice place with organic & local choices right around the corner?

Sarah H.

Yelp
Everything you need! Just moved to the neighborhood and was delighted to find a market with all the basics, plus some yummy gourmet items like Bob's Red Mill flours and gelato. Friendly staff, Boars Head deli foods, Enrico Biscotti, homemade salads... stop drooling and check it out yourself!

Rob W.

Yelp
A neighborhood market is not a giant chain grocery store (thank heavens), so the Bryant Street Market won't have everything you are looking for; but they are extremely well stocked for a neighborhood market, with lots of organic items, some local produce, excellent, high quality Boar's Head deli meets and cheeses, locally produced gourmet items (e.g., Najaf parsley and scallion hummus which is as good as it gets) and gelato. They are also very nice people who go out of their way for their customers. I go there several times/week (even though Whole Foods is only a few blocks away...but the Bryant Street has a number of things you can't get at Whole Foods) and I will continue to do so.
