Metro Times Admits It Fell for Como’s-Related April Fools’ Joke | Eater Detroit

"A faux Mexican restaurant promoted via a convincing Facebook page that claimed to be taking over the former pizzeria space; a small sign was even placed on the building, which had recently been listed for $4 million. Although the page and its posts appeared legitimate and predated April 1, the organizers admitted on April 2 that it was an April Fools’ prank (aptly underscored by the fact that “tonto” means “fool” in Spanish), prompting the Metro Times to update its earlier story." - Tim Forster

Caution: Enter at Your Own Risk This place serves food with the same energy as a DMV on a Monday morning—cold, lifeless, and soul-crushing. The entrée arrived colder than my ex’s heart, and the dip was the temperature of a sad bath that’s been sitting out since 2003. As for the drinks? Imagine licking a battery soaked in discount sour mix. Yum, right? The service? Oh, it was slow… not “busy restaurant” slow—more like “they forgot we existed and maybe hoped we’d leave” slow. By the time we got our food, I had seen the stages of grief twice. If you’re looking for a waste of time, money, and hope, congrats—you’ve found it. If not, do yourself a favor: set your money on fire instead. At least it’ll be warm, unlike the meal. If disappointment were a restaurant, this would be its flagship location!

First upon walking in the restaurant was quaint and small but pretty well managed. The server was friendly and attentive as well. The food at this restaurant was pretty decent. The chicken had a decent flavor and depending on the item from the menu you got a great portion size. The soups are a huge portion and really good tasting as well. I got the chicken fajitas this is where I said the chicken tastes really good but the portions aren't that big. I also got a pineapple strawberry margarita. It was so good and they put fresh fruit in it as well! So yummy and worth the price!

Super cute little place with delicious food and friendly service. The covered outdoor patio was really nice. We were disappointed that they didn't have any of the specialty taco meats available, but we will definitely come back to try again. Everything we did have was delicious, and there were unique menu items that I haven't seen around here much.

1st time here, everything was amazing! The food, service, and atmosphere!! Angelica our server was wonderful! I had the chicken quesadilla and strawberry margarita. Both were delicious! Will become a regular spot for me and the family!

Very, very good Mexican spot. Everything I had from this place was very tasty. I wanted to try quite a variety of items from this spot, including the quesadilla, platanos Fritos, and the tres leches. Every single thing I had was very good. To start, the main meal, the quesadilla, was quite filling. They served it with complimentary rice. The rice was surprisingly flavorful, and had a great soft texture. The quesadilla itself was also quite good, filled with a nice amount of cheese. Simple but tasty. The platanos Fritos were also excellent. The plantains themselves were sweet and soft. Almost worthy of being a dessert. The cheese they had on top was a bit unnecessary in my opinion, as it was stringy and tasted a bit like plastic. But still, very good overall. The tres leches was an excellent dessert to end off the night. So creamy, fluffy, and perfectly sweet. They definitely do not hold back on the whipped cream here (which was a tad excessive). All in all, a very nice Mexican spot. I would definitely come again. Enjoyed everything I had.

Very good Mexican food. Seating was great on the back patio. Staff was very friendly. Service was quick. Food was great.

Google
Food is very good and seems very authentic. Tortillas look and taste like there are made on site. Margaritas are fresh squeezed to order. Need to go back more often.

Update: Btosk still serves the BEST mexican food in Pittsburgh! Called ahead to reserve my birthday party here for 16 people and service was great as always!!! We love Anderson, Frine, and Laura!!! We always get amazing margaritas and are treated like family. The location is passed a lot because it is on the corner but it is so worth the stop! As below, my wife and I still make Btosk a must go destination for our dinner outings. You just cant go wrong with any of the food. Ive had almost every taco, Diablo, Molcajete #2, Pasadena, chimichangas, the three Tortas, Nopales and ALWAYS get an Elotes! The tres leches cake is better than ones weve has at 4 star resorts in Cancun! Lastly, they do catering too! We ordered here for my sons first birthday. The catering was absolutely stupendous and we were taken very well care of to serve 90 people!!! Btosk is a weekly must go to for my wife and I. Weve been coming for almost year and Im not sure why I havent left a review sooner. We love everything about it! Great service, amazing food, and the BEST BEST BEST Margaritas in Pittsburgh. They muddle them with fresh fruit!!! I cant say enough good things about you Btosk. Heres to another year! Pineapple Margarita with Tajin in photo.

Yelp
This is my new favorite local Mexican place (most authentic in the area - IMO) and I've been here 2x in the past month. First time with a friend at the bar with margarita, chips and street tacos then second time on patio with my son - had Diablo shrimp with rice and beans, chips and salsa, margarita; son had churros and enchiladas. We both loved it & absolutely adore the atmosphere on the patio, such a chill spot and generally great service. Usually no issues with finding nearby parking, meters also only enforced til 6pm. Reasonably priced menu as well.

Yelp
I LOVE this place! I've been coming here for years and everything's delicious. I've had their nachos, their wings, the Skinny Salad, and many other things. Their tacos are DELICIOUS! Tonight I'm having a chicken chimichanga. It's scrumptious!

Yelp
Just left the restaurant. Worst eating experience in 2025. The service was absolutely horrendous despite the fact that there was only one other customer in the restaurant at 7 o'clock on a Saturday evening. Ordered the fajitas, which came out on the plate cold with no sauces or accompaniments. whatsoever. I asked for sour cream and guacamole to go with my fajitas and they charge me an additional seven dollars. I wouldn't go back here if the meal was free.

Yelp
Really wish I could give zero stars. Two days ago I ordered food from BTOS Kitchen before they opened. My order was canceled by GrubHub because BTOS failed to confirm the order. Okay, maybe BTOS needs more than a few hours to do their job. So I ordered food yesterday afternoon to be delivered today. Once again, 25 minutes before my delivery time, BTOS failed to confirm the order and therefore my order was canceled. This isn't a hard job. If you're going to take online orders, do so. If it's too much hassle for you, just do phone and walk-in orders. If anyone askes me about BTOS Kitchen I'm going to advise them to stay the hell away and go with someone reputable. Hell, even the local Taco Bell does a better job.

Yelp
Very quick for takeout and on street metered parking right in front. The skinny salad was tasty but didn't have Mexican flavors. I like the egg. However the egg and dressing leaked from the takeout container onto the tortilla chips below making them soggy by the time I got home. The guac was good and could have used more flavor. All of the food was fresh.

Yelp
We love BTOS kitchen. They have great food and drinks, and Ima great patio. We love getting a michelada on a hot day, so tasty.

Yelp
A wonderful local Mexican restaurant! They have a spacious indoor room and bar, but I highly recommend their patio. The tables are covered so you won't get too hot and it's very peaceful. The service is great with coming to your table right away for drinks and giving you enough time to review the menu. There are so many delicious options to choose from! I ended up going with the Arrachera BTOS-K tacos. The tacos came with fresh cilantro, onion, and lime; with a very flavorful avocado salsa drizzled on top. The grilled flank steak was a bit chewy in some bites, but overall delicious. I also got rice as a side and it was seasoned nicely and not boring like typical white rice. I was still a bit hungry after my 2 tacos, but happy with my order, I'd just recommend getting 3. Looking forward to coming back to try more of their food!

Jim F.

Yelp
Not very good. Burrito shell wasdry and tough to cut, and the cuerco al pastor filling was skimpy, mostly black beans and rice. It came out cold from the kitchen When I sent it back the waiter returned it in the same condition. My fountain diet coke was bad too.

Kay B.

Yelp
Y'ALL.LIED (& so did their website) :/ Margaritas started at $3, MORE, than their website says. I got their wings. Partly out of spite bc I had picked and driven to them, wanting to try one of their, reasonably priced, "dangerously good margaritas", but at 2-3x what I can get, elsewhere, I didn't. And, after getting these, dried out, SKIMP, greasy, odd tasting wings, I'm GLAD I DIDN'T. I work in the food industry (and a passionate cook/foodie, myself) HOW are you going to serve someone, THIS!?! SMH ONLY customer and she was in the kitchen/back (I was at the bar), most of the time. OH, and no tap beers, either.
google avatar

Stephanie D.

Yelp
Food is fire. Probably the worst service in the city. They're so nice! Just so inattentive. They'll snatch your menus away as soon as you order a guac. Only took off one star bc I want this place to do well, the food and margs are so good!! We even got surprise live music tonight! Offer me another drink please! Take my money! I'm thirsty!! Leave the food menu I will buy moreeee
google avatar

Sam D.

Yelp
First time here and this place is a gem! It doesn't look like much on the outside and I have driven past it so many times! The street tacos were so good, the chorizo and Barbacoa were my favs. I can't wait to go back and try more on the menu!

Yelp
We had a disappointing experience ordering from BTOS Kitchen via Grubhub. The food was delivered without side dishes (Mexican corn, side of beans, etc.). Instead, the dishes included a CUCUMBER on the side (???) so we were all still hungry after our meal. There was no horchata available. We ordered a "bottle of Coke" and received a can of Coke and charged over $3. We were thinking that the best case scenario would be a Mexican Coke in a glass bottle or perhaps a plastic bottle of Coke, mainly just disappointed about receiving less food than advertised. The food itself seemed a bit bland and under-seasoned. Sadly, I would have preferred Taco Bell or Chipotle over this restaurant. Frankly I'm surprised about all the positive reviews. I do want to say that my 7-year-old son enjoyed his cheese quesadilla with plain rice and he gave this restaurant a 5-star review. However, the 3 other adults would not recommend this restaurant and would give it a 2-star review.
google avatar

JD J.

Yelp
Food was absolutely average at best. Chips and queso have sero flavor and queso came out quite cold and the chips a bit stale and just zero flavor at all. Margaritas were made fresh, however they also had no flavor and was not good by any means. Used fresh ingredients but was not good. Tacos were bite sized and Burritos had no flavor and were not very tasty. I 1000% couldve made better food at home and saved myself the trouble. Very disappointed to say the least This place has no flavor, not the best customer service. I would advise you to go somewhere else for mexican food, this place is NOT IT!
google avatar

Ann B.

Yelp
I love this place. The servers are very friendly and don't rush you when you're having a relaxing night out. They make fabulous hand blended margaritas. The best. The BEST. I've been coming here for years. Their tacos are delicious and their nachos can't be beat. I've never had anything here I didn't enjoy.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
YES. YES. YES. This hands down is the best Mexican food in Pittsburgh! First off, the margarita was perfect! Literally they hand squeezed fresh lime and lemon. No concentrated mix! I've never had a marg that good before! Secondly, the tacos. Ahh the tacos. So good. Such fresh ingredients. And the corn tortillas were amazing. The Al Pastor were soooo good, and the chorizo Street tacos were awesome! I just can't get over how authentic this place is. It's the real deal. RUN, don't walk to try this place. I'll be back for sure!

Lori D.

Yelp
This place is hands down the best Mexican in the South Hills. The margaritas are the best I have ever had. Service was great. Welcoming and an amazing mariachi singer. The flank steak tacos are so delicious. It is like the middle child of Totopo and Las Palmas (both of which I also love and recommend) with its ambiance and openness. I don't do reviews. This place earns it.

Mary Jo C.

Yelp
Service was efficient and friendly. The margaritas were served with an orange wedge that was tasty. We ordered chips and a dip trio that was disappointing. The chips were stale, even on the refill and the queso lacked flavor. The bean dip w chorizo lacked chorizo. The taco special with seasoned chicken was good, but served cold. It would taste even better if heated when making the tacos.

Adrianne F.

Yelp
Enchiladas mole not good My friend got Mahi tacos and they were overcooked and dry Not the best experience

MD S.

Yelp
Been here a few times and the food isn't consistent. The meat is overcooked and rubbery and the drinks are extremely expensive. If I want overcooked meat I might as well just make it myself at home and save my money. The waitress acts like she doesn't want to be there and not friendly.
google avatar

Katy H.

Yelp
MMMmm! The BEST Mexican food in Pittsburgh! Great menu, full of authentic tasty options. They have cactus, mole, elote, huitlacoche, and churros!!! Can't wait to try more from their menu. Nice patio in the back, and a playlist that makes you feel like you're in Mexico. Service is very good too.
google avatar

Justin F.

Yelp
Had a great time here , very good food and the service is above and beyond !! I just wish chips and salsa was complimentary
google avatar

Jolene P.

Yelp
This is my favorite margarita joint. They muddle their fruit and it is so refreshing you won't notice how fast you drink it. The food is tasty and I haven't had anything I didn't like though the service leaves something to be desired. We have gone her many times where you don't get everything you ordered or it comes by the time everyone else has finished their dinner. It has a loud and fun energy that keeps us coming back.
google avatar

C G.

Yelp
Ordered pickup from Grubhub. Two tacos, three tacos, and a quesadilla and two sides. Didn't get third taco, and tacos were soggy. I live less than 10 minutes away so it's kinda crazy they were soggy. Average at best. Quesadilla was good. Missing two sides. Terrible business practice to not get what you paid for. Business owner is a pathetic POS, as this appears to be something that is a frequent occurrence based on reviews through Grubhub. I will never order from here again. My suggestion would be Totopo down the street or El Burro in the city if you want Mexican. Don't give an establishment that scams people out of money your business.
google avatar

Krista R.

Yelp
Food was amazing! It was not packed for lunch so we had great quick service. Really friendly waitresses that were polite. They had authentic music playing that really lifted the vibe. I had a chorizo burrito and my gf had a skinny salad. Can't wait to come back! Soooo yummy
google avatar

Amber Q.

Yelp
Literally one of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever been to. The house maragitas are times with a spicy salt and made with fresh juices. The tortillas are made to order and everything comes out hot and fresh. I had the tacos with elote. Yum! They do have outdoor dining as well. The patio is out back and cute and quiet

Melissa C.

Yelp
Very good, fresh food. Very reasonably priced! Just found it today on my lunch break. Nice friendly staff
google avatar

Angie S.

Yelp
Been wanting some authentic Mexican food & word on the street was this was the place. stepped in on an early Saturday for dinner. Walked in & went to at least 3 tables and they were dirty. Waitress comes over & we order margaritas. I will tell you they were really good. Time to order some guac, salsa and chorizo dip but they tell us they have no chips??? What, no chips at a Mexican restaurant. We decided to just finish or good margaritas and leave. Maybe we will go back someday....
google avatar

Buddy S.

Yelp
Called and placed a take out order, was told to come in 30 minutes. Arrive at restaurant and no one had placed my order. Staff then proceeds to charge me full price and tell me I have to wait an additional 20 minutes before my food will be ready. Ask for a manager, no one said they were a manager. Do not order food from here! Edit: upon arriving home, enchiladas had no sauce in them! I called them back and they said I could come back for a cup of sauce. Go to Taco Diablo or Emilianos.

Steve J.

Yelp
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the south hills. Quality ingredients and amazing flavor. It's obvious BTOS prioritizes the food more than anything and it speaks in the dishes that come out of the kitchen. Takeout is ready in 10 minutes and just as tasty as if you were sitting in. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Russ D.

Yelp
Very nice place. Ambiance is relaxing, and the music is uplifting Hispanic modern hip hop. Service was good, a little slow, but the food made up for the wait time. It was delicious, very authentic Mexican food. Must try the street corn! My favorite side dish to date!

Joshua K.

Yelp
Not a fancy place but the food was incredible. Would highly recommend if in the area.
google avatar

Rhona S.

Yelp
The is some of the best Mexican food I have had in America. The service is awesome. The food is amazing. The margaritas are delicious. It is a must try if you are in Pittsburgh
google avatar

DJ J.

Yelp
Had heard that the tacos were good so had to stop by and get a takeout. Ordered the Street Tacos that are 4 tacos for $10. The tacos come on homemade tortillas that we were able to watch being made as we waited for our order. Our order was a mix of the fillings including chorizo, carnitas and barbacoa. The Street tacos were delicious and came with two salsas (VERDE and Rojo) and a few pickled cucumber slices. All were really good and loved the chorizo. Can't wait for our next Taco Tuesday.
google avatar

Christina W.

Yelp
The best most authentic Mexican food in the south hills!! Service can be slow but it's only because they are making everything from scratch down to the margarita Juice. Highly recommend!!

Kristine M.

Yelp
The food is amazing-I recommend the steak tacos. Having lived in Los Angeles, as close as you get With this said, I live in the neighborhood and do not speak Spanish, although I try to be gracious. I tip well, compliment and still feel... I would love to take a few friends, just do not have the vibe we would "fit". Not saying I would not go back, crave the food - if there is not one word of English, I am ok with that - just let me know to pull out my translator and don't make me feel bad Probably would have gone tonight and then took a look at the reviews Again - Awesome food
google avatar

Linda M.

Yelp
We had great service here! Tasty margaritas and delicious tacos. Such a fun evening on the outside patio - we'll be back!

Yelp
La comida fue perfecto !!! My friend was raving about this place. When someone recommends the foodie queen a restaurant, the thought doesn't leave my mind until I go. So I finally made it to BTOS with the friend that recommended it and oh my gosh is this place underrated. You know it's authentic when the margaritas are big and when they don't offer you soft shells... just the way I like it! I always said it's hard to find authentic Mexican food in PA, but I sure found it. My friend got the Mahi Mahi tacos & I got the spicy chicken so we traded and had one of each. They were both so good (especially because the guac wasn't extra), but I must admit the Mahi Mahi was my favorite. Paired with the side of corn & freshly squeezed lime... MMM. Already craving this again. My gluten free & vegan lovers would also enjoy this place. Muchas gracias
google avatar

Tina L.

Yelp
They are an amazing restaurant! Everything is made by hand, not dumped out of a can or box. When order them whenever we have company & everyone is so impressed at how awesome everything is! They ask for the name, address & phone # saying they're the #1 favorite restaurant in the South Hills area!!! Their dinners are most excellent but they also have the best street taco I've ever had! If you want phenomenal Mexican food without that high priced menu, dine in or take out you will be thrilled you went here!
google avatar

Muse M.

Yelp
Great food, atmosphere and 80's music track. Seems to be family run in a very enjoyable way. I'm here from CA so really!!!!!! missing good Mexican food. This place was awesome. Good mix of Pitt grunge and great Mexican food. I'll be back soon.

Yelp
just moved her from los angeles and i've been looking for a good mexican food spot and i've been to plenty just to be extremely disappointed until i found btos the food literally feels like a hug it's super good i've decided to keep coming back and try everything on the menu because everything i had was just delicious and if this place was in california i would definitely be a regular customer as well just super pleased with service and overall amazing food and drinks it's definitely a must try
google avatar

Ed M.

Yelp
Went there last night for drinks and dinner with a friend at 6PM. No beer on tap and the bottle selection was horrible. Their alcohol menu wasn't much better. They were out of wings as well. Ended up with a burrito which was good and the service was OK. Not sure I'll be back.
google avatar

Mark L.

Yelp
Excellent food! Very attentive staff. My new favorite Mexican restaurant. I had street tacos, which were excellent.
google avatar

Ashley D.

Yelp
We stopped in randomly on Cinco de mayo. We had never been before, but wanted tacos and knew everywhere else would likely have a long wait. I'm so glad we decided to stop here! Great service but even better food. If you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine- this is the place! We ordered the street tacos, the burrito, street corn & rice. Everything was delicious! Also- the top shelf marg was made to perfection! we will definitely be back! Highly recommend! 10/10

Yelp
I've been visiting BTOS for a little bit now. This evening I got their dinner, El Gallo, and I must say, this meal is !Muy Delicioso! The chicken breast was cooked to near perfection, fresh, moist, and has the right amount of spice. The sauce takes it to the next level. The Elote and Napoles Asado complemented the chicken breast, just right!!! Keep up the great work you all do!

Daniel C.

Yelp
Bought some beers, shots and tacos. Had $161 charge which I paid for and understand but then had had two other charges For $50+ and then $60+. Don't know what it was for but waitress was named ibelece. So don't know what the other charges were for. It should've been one charge. But 3 separate charges? Shady watch your charges and checks people

Karie K.

Yelp
The first time my friends and I went here we had a great experience. Tonight was the second experience. We sat at the bar and the Bartender was very rude! He clearly did not want to bother with us. I believe there might have been a language barrier, but he definitely did not want us there. We asked the other server a few questions and he was furious, slamming plates and glasses in the sink. I ordered a shrimp burrito & they put 3 pieces of shrimp in it! I won't be returning.
