We stopped here on a day trip to the area based on the online menu and the website update that the staff was being COVID safe, wearing masks and gloves, spacing tables, ect. When we arrived neither the hostess nor any servers we observed were wearing masks or taking any precautions whatsoever. While waiting for our order that decided to order takeout I observed a waitress carrying food to table walking fast and spilled some beans/stew on herself, the plate, and floor, but just keep going to deliver the messy plate. Not a huge deal, but speaks to the sort of care and attention they give the food and customers, the place was not at all busy.
Even though we got our food to go, we ate it right away. The ribs and pork were good, not the best in the area by any means, but also not at all bad. The bbq was one of the worst I've ever tasted. Truly awful. Way too sweet, it tasted more like syrup than bbq sauce. I don't know if there are other flavors. I asked for a little of all flavors available and this was the only one we had.
The sides are a waste of time and money. The home cut fries were not cooked appropriately. They were soggy and limp, despite the fact the place hadn't been open long and I'm confident they were fresh. The fried Mac and cheese is also terrible. It's either a low end frozen product, or it's Kraft in a blue box that they fry up. I'm not against frozen products, but his one isn't any good, certainly doesn't justify an up charge. The okra was fine, again not the best, not the worst. Same for the baked beans.
Overall, if I lived nearby I may stop once in a while for take out meats, then bring it home and eat with a better sauce and my own sides.
It's perfectly reasonable for a good bbq place to to only serve the meats and just a basic side or two. These guys need to revisit the menu, and pair it down. Personally, I wouldn't go back.
