The Best Savannah, Georgia, Restaurants | Eater Carolinas

"Good luck getting a seat at Bubba Gumbo’s during happy hour. After work, locals drive, boat, and sprint to this fresh seafood spot on the Tybee Island Marina shrimp docks. The indoor-outdoor dining area gives patrons the chance to spot seals, egrets, and other wildlife while savoring draft margaritas and their favorite preparation of the catch of the day, with a side of hush puppies and jambalaya for good measure." - Kiki Dy

There are a bunch of seafood restaurants that are pretty darn good on Tybee Island, but Bubba Gumbo’s is for the discerning foodie. The restaurant rises above and exceeds all expectations for fresh seafood. Their menu features local, sustainable fresh catch, not the novelty beach fare that comes frozen in trucks. Their seafood is delivered by small fishing vessels to the dock every day, straight from the creeks and waterways off the coast of Tybee Island. The restaurant manager can be seen prepping a variety of species unloaded by local fishermen. If you haven’t eaten here, you haven’t experienced fresh fresh.

We were staying on a boat at the pier, so this was the perfect spot to enjoy the view and grab dinner. Just a heads-up that seating took much longer than expected — we were told 10–15 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 45. That said, once we were seated, service picked up, food came out fairly quickly, and everything tasted great. We especially loved the burgers and fries. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun, and there are even a couple of friendly cats roaming around that made us smile. We’d definitely come back next time we’re in town!

Authentic southern food and venue. Genevieve was great explaining the menu and local foods. The food was very tasty and well cooked. No need to book but we had a short wait so grabbed a drink at the bar. The place is clean, has character and welcoming to all (including 2 gays from Scotland). It was the only place we could find on the water with views and a great sunset. Overall the food is affordable, however be warned if you go for the catch of the day it can become pricey (about $35 for catch of the day). We had 2 starters, 2 catch of the day and a key lime pie between us and it was £105. You’ll leave with sticky fingers and a full belly.

Don't over think this one. Just go here and order shrimp and the catch of the day. Peel and eat spicy garlic were fantastic. Perfect spot to grab a drink and enjoy the outdoor seating on the docks. Not a tourist trap, you can tell the locals eat here. Will be back

Shrimp and grits! Yum! This place is a family-owned restaurant. Started in the 80s. Went through various owners after a number of years. A few years ago, the daughter came back and returned the restaurant (dive!?) back to its original name. The brother runs the boat yard. Nice restaurants are all fine and dandy, but sometimes a good joint is even better! Really nice staff, great music and delicious food. What's not to like! Recommend by a local at the Wormsloe Historic Site!

By far the best shrimp I have had on Tybee. Pair that with incredible service! Mafe was the best, made sure we had everything we needed before we realized we needed it. She suggested the spicy garlic steamed shrimp, did not disappoint. Great place to watch the sunset as well, plenty of parking. If you are going anywhere else on Tybee for seafood, you’re not getting the best of the area.

Best fried shrimp we’ve had on the island. And best hush puppies! Only sad thing is you get a smaller portion of the shrimp. Nothing fancy here, we ate outdoors and it’s like eating at a fish camp, but we love it and come here every year.

Long wait (45 min) on a Friday night, saw a river otter on the dock. Good food, shrimp and grits were ample-sized and tasty, kids liked the fish sticks and hush puppies. Burger was ok, not great. Highly recommend for sunset views.
