Yelp
I recently stopped by Bubble Egg, the much-hyped dessert spot known for its "bubble waffles" and over-the-top ice-cream creations. Here's my take:
What I Loved
* Unique Presentation: Their signature bubble waffles are crisp on the outside, pillowy inside, and make a fantastic vessel for scoops of ice cream, drizzles, and toppings.
* Flavor Selection: From classic vanilla bean to indulgent salted-caramel pretzel and even a playful matcha-strawberry swirl, the house-made ice creams are rich, creamy, and clearly churned with quality ingredients.
* Vibe & Service: The café itself is bright and cheerful, with friendly, enthusiastic staff who are happy to talk you through all the flavor combos and specials.
Where It Fell Short
* Sticker Shock: A single waffle "egg"--that is, one large bubble waffle filled with two scoops, sauces, and mix-ins--runs about $12-$14, and if you add extra scoops or premium toppings you're easily looking at $18-$20. That price point feels steep, even for a trendy dessert spot.
* Portion vs. Price: Though the portions are generous, the jump from a basic scoop at a local creamery (usually $4-$5) to these extravagant concoctions can be hard to justify for a quick treat.
* Not Always Worth the Wait: On busy weekends, you can expect a 10-15 minute line--and if you're just in it for a simple ice cream fix, you might regret waiting in line for something only marginally more exciting than what you can get at a lower-priced counter down the block.
Bottom Line:
Bubble Egg nails the Instagram-worthy bubble-waffle-plus-ice-cream formula--with top-notch flavors, playful toppings, and a fun atmosphere. If you're celebrating something special or you want to splurge on a memorable dessert, it's absolutely worth a visit. But for everyday ice-cream cravings, the premium price makes it more of an occasional treat than a regular indulgence.
