Monday evening, I was joining my brother-in-law and nephew to watch our first San Diego Padres baseball game of the 2024 MLB season. Since I was coming straight from work, I coordinated with my family to meet up for dinner before the game. We wanted to dine somewhere close to Petco Park and decided on Bub's at the Ballpark, which is literally a few steps away from one of the entrances to the ballpark. I wanted to fill my tummy, so that I didn't have to buy the expensive stadium food. I was blessed to chow down on Bub's version of a Philly cheesesteak, which was one of tastiest Philly's I've had.
Bub's is located next to Petco Park just minutes away. It is specifically located in Downtown San Diego on J Street and Seventh Avenue. The restaurant is across from the tall Sempra building and what looks like a new business called Arcade Monsters. The most convenient parking would the 6th and K Parkade structure. Before entering the restaurant, you will be asked to present your ID to ensure you're legal to drink. Bub's is a large sports bar that has plenty of seating, a plethora of televisions showing all types of sports, there are flags of our local sports teams, and a basketball hoop surrounded by a cage. I love that they surround the exterior of the restaurant with flags and there are symbols of patriotism inside as well. I forgot to get the name of our attentive female waitress, but she provided us with impeccable customer service and we were sitting inside the cage next to the basketball hoop.
When I was trying to decide with my brother on where we were going to eat, I was thinking of Mexican food and we considered a pizza joint, but we both decided on Bub's. It was a great choice not only because of its proximity to Petco and the noteworthy customer service, but it was memorable for the amazingly delicious entree I engulfed. While perusing the diverse menu, I thought I was going to order a burger, but after talking to my nephew who had visited Bub's, I decided to order The Pittsburgh Steak because my nephew said he really enjoyed it. The Pittsburgh Steak comes with thinly sliced steak, chipotle aioli, encased inside a soft bread roll, and make sure to get it "All the Way". It comes with your choice of seasoned fries or tots. I was blown away by how tasty and yummy that sandwich was. The generous amount of steak was seasoned to perfection and tender; the melted cheese and finger licking aioli was a great combination; the sautéed mushrooms, onions, and peppers added balance to the richness of the protein and cheese; and that bread was just the perfect vessel for what was one of the best Philly cheesesteaks I've eaten here in San Diego. Make sure to order the tots instead of the fries because Bub's is known for their tots and you won't be disappointed.
I was blessed spending quality time with my family enjoying our first Padres game of the season. What was the proverbial icing on the cake was the memorable dinner I had at Bub's at the Ballpark especially their Pittsburgh Steak.
