The Philly BYOBs That Get The Job Done - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Bucatini is all about the classics: free Italian bread, vintage pictures of the old country framed on the wall, and warm, friendly service punctuated by the staff constantly asking if you want fresh pepper or parmesan on your salad, pasta, or poured down your throat. Nothing at the East Passyunk restaurant will blow you away—in fact, skip the bland duck ragu. But if you stick to the crispy octopus topped with a tangy arugula salad, the creamy lobster bucatini, and the pistachio cannoli, you’ll leave as satisfied." - candis mclean, alison kessler

Bucatini Caffè - Review - East Passyunk - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Bucatini Caffe is the latest in this city’s string of SPBWAIWIIN (South Philly BYOBs With An Italian Word In Its Name). You know the type: cozy corner spots with free bread, vintage pictures of the old country framed on the wall, and warm, friendly service punctuated by the staff constantly asking if you want fresh pepper or parmesan on your salad, pasta, or poured down your throat. Nothing at the East Passyunk restaurant will blow you away—in fact, we found a few dishes lacking in flavor (skip the duck ragu). But if you stick to the crispy octopus topped with a tangy arugula salad, the creamy lobster bucatini, and the pistachio cannoli, you’ll leave as satisfied as when you exit Scannicchio’s, Aroma on 3rd, and other SPBWAIWIIN cousins." - Candis R. The pasta was really good! The complimentary bread and homemade sun-dried tomato dip was also delicious. We stopped by on a Friday evening without a reservation and were able to get seated right away. Very nice staff members. NOTE: there is a cash discount

Google
Wonderful Italian byo. Very nice service in a comfortable atmosphere. The food is the star of the show. Everything was delicious. For apps we had eggplant with burrata, stuffed long hots and bruschetta. I'd recommend all of them. For dinner we had salmon, pasta with clams, pasta with scallops, and lemon pasta with crab. Again all were delicious. Prices are very fair here. Definitely check it out!

BYOB. Great food and service, super friendly staff and the bread is also amazing! The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the acoustics in the room. It is really loud even when it’s not completely full; it got better after two 4-top tables left. Highly recommend for food! Just note that it is difficult to hear and have a conversation at a reasonable volume when the place is about half full.

Google
So glad we finally found this little gem. Fantastic food and top notch service. Our server, Sam, was exceptionally kind and attentive. Food was delivered swiftly from the open kitchen just feet from our table. We had the white wine mussel, crab pesto fusili, and branzino specials plus the tiramisu and ricotta canoli cake. Everything was absolutely terrific. We’ll be back very soon!

Google
The service was amazing. All the severs were very attentive. The octopus was nice a charred but it was a bit on the salty side. The beef carpaccio was a bit too sour problem too much lemon juice. The squid ink rigatoni was very flavorful and we also really enjoyed the bread it was nice and chewy and the sun dried tomatoes dip was the bread was also really good.

Delicious! I came with a group of people and we shared multiple plates so that we could try several menu items (only a few pics here). I will definitely be returning! Everything we had was exceptional! One member of our group had an allergy and they were able to make appropriate recommendations/adjustments to accommodate. I can’t wait to return and eat more! BYO is also a big plus for Passyunk Ave! Welcome to the neighborhood, you’ll be seeing me often!

Google

We went to Bucatini Caffe for the 3rd time now. First time was with my Real Estate team as a Christmas dinner. Then I went with my girlfriend and had the best prime cut and squid ink! We just went again and I just wanted to get on here and mention just how good the service was and how the vibe feels like home for us!

Yelp
Vibes: neighborhood Italian eatery; bring a date or a few friends Tasting notes: - Bread service: excellent crust and crumb; accompanying sundried-tomato olive oil was savory and fragrant - Stuffed long hots: does have quite the heat when you work towards the stem; umami rich filling: sweet, slightly creamy tomato sauce is so swipeable with the focaccia - Gnocchi: absolutely delightful pillows; nice contrast to the cream with sautéed spinach and sundried tomatoes - Barramundi: very simple, well-seasoned, generous fillet; pleasantly surprised by sautéed spinach and al dente couscous mixed with quinoa - Pistachio gelato: deep flavor and very smooth with just a subtle, pleasant stickiness Other thoughts: - Very friendly and attentive service - Appreciated the coursing and pacing of above dishes - Fairly loud and bustling on a weekend evening - Above meal was satisfying for two hungry adults Impression: whenever I am craving the "Italian at home", this is where you'll find me! Can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

Yelp
Small BYOB Italian spot offering a good selections of fresh food and flavors. Came with a large group so we got to try almost all their menu items :D I would recommend the octopus app, charred nicely, pared with grilled tomatoes and sauce; eggplants and stuffed peppers were also pretty good apps. The dipping sauce with the eir bread basket is amazing! We got all their seafood pastas, all were really tasty and cooked well (not too hard, not soggy, properly sauced and good portion of seafood). My favorites are the crab fusilli with pesto and squid ink rigatoni (with a slight kick in the sauce). The fish of the day was also pretty fresh paired with white wine sauce and couscous. They offer a couple dessert options, including tiramisu, tartufo, cheesecake (with cream brûlée top) and more.

Yelp
Bucatini Caffe is a fantastic spot for Italian food lovers! The menu is well-crafted, and every dish we tried delivered on flavor. The squid ink rigatoni was a standout--perfectly al dente with just the right amount of spice to give it a bit of a kick without overpowering the dish. The duck bolognese was also delicious, rich and savory with a comforting depth that makes it hard to stop eating. The ambiance is cozy yet refined, making it ideal for both a date night or a small group dinner. Service was attentive and friendly, adding to the experience without being intrusive. If you're in the mood for authentic Italian dishes with a modern twist, Bucatini Caffe is definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Really lovely meal! The steak special was cooked perfectly. Pastas were all pretty good - really liked the duck bolognese. Apps and desserts were good - especially the fennel salad and chocolate mousse cake.

Yelp
What an amazing new BYO on Passyunk. You can tell this place takes its service and food very seriously. A really great space as well. Great vibes. The octopus was delicious. The chicken milanese was on special and we got it as a second course. It needs to be a permanent item on the menu because it was amazing. The pasta dishes were also incredible. Highly recommend this spot.

Yelp
My husband and I and our 2 friends checked out Bucatini Caffe on a Friday night recently. Love that it is a byob and you can bring your own wine. We got the clams, long hots and fried eggplant w/ burrata for appetizers. The clams were in a delicious garlicky white wine sauce. The long hots were a bit too spicy for us but otherwise very good. They gave us extra bread and the bread came with a really flavorful dip (sundried tomatoes, oil, not sure what else). For our mains we had the fish special, the squid ink rigatoni, the duck bolognese, the crab pesto pasta, and the lobster bucatini. We didn't agree on which entrees were the best but personally I liked the crab pesto pasta and the lobster bucatini the best. The fish was really large but personally thought it could have been cooked a bit longer. The calamari in the squid ink pasta could have been more tender but the octopus in it was really good and tender. The service was great and the food came out fast. It's very cute in the restaurant, with brick walls and hardwood floors. Felt very cozy and not too fancy. Overall we had a good time!

Yelp
This place just opened yesterday and I am so excited I was able to get in today! I was with a few girlfriends and we tried the lobster bucatini which was everyone's favorite! I always love eggplant and the antipasti was really great. It's really cute inside and I will definitely try it again in the next few weeks!

Yelp
Passyunk needed this perfect byob! Fresh, homemade pasta; innovative as well as classic appetizers; fresh fish and meat specials; as well as homemade desserts make this South Philly byob a standout. The atmosphere is cozy, great for a date night or dinner with friends and family. My group tried several of the pasta dishes and appetizers and dessert and were blown away by the quality, freshness, and taste of every dish. The service is excellent as well with a friendly staff. I've already made reservations for next week. 10/10 recommend!

Yelp
First...the staff....we know Sam from Burrata in Havertown...he was amazing there and he continues to be fabulous in his new role. Everything was perfect...the longhots are spicy and perfect and burrata is super creamy. We had two pasta dishes and a scallop dish...everything was delicious. I never thought I'd like broccoli pesto...who knew? Desserts are limited but, honestly, that's probably better because the desserts are lovely (I don't love tiramisu, but this one is quite good). Bottom line...well worth a visit *ask for Sam

Yelp
Enjoyed the cozy, warm and friendly vibe! We all shared the pear salad, eggplant burrata and octopus apps.... Delicious. The fettuccine was perfectly Al dente and the swordfish and veal chop very good! Mmm and the chocolate cake and tartufo completed the dinner.... Worth the calories. I really enjoyed this true South Philly spot and the service was so hospitable! We will be back!!

Yelp
On a Wednesday my wife and I opened the door to this new restaurant on passyunk but really we walked into a homey south philly vibe full of italian grannies givin smooches and the sounds of bottles of wine being popped. The food and service were fantastic. The octopus and the ricotta carrot cake was unforgettable.

Yelp
We had the absolute best experience! We made an impromptu decision to go on a date night and this place just opened up 2 minutes from our house. They are the same owners of Burrata, which we're already big fans of. We had to start with the stuffed longhots and it did not disappoint! For entrees I got the Bucatini lobster in a butternut squash cream sauce and it was incredible- it was light, refreshing, and had the perfect balance of summer to fall flavors (the ultimate September dish). My hubby got the squid ink rigatoni with calamari in a spicy blush sauce and I couldn't stop stealing bites- the flavor had such amazing depth to it. The final dish I will forever crave- limoncello cake. The most light, airy, citrusy creation I've ever put in my mouth. And the bill? Soooo reasonable. We love a BYO. And I will be back to try every single other dish on the menu.

Yelp
Nice new BYO near Passyunk Ave.Friendly crew... Sam and Anthony are transplants from Havertown...and a short but creative menu. Always loved that fennel and citrus salad and the ahi tuna...just barely cooked was delicious.Word of mouth must be strong...the room was pretty packed.and noisy....but with good energy. Owned by the Burrata people and keeping up with that level of excellence. We live around the corner from Burrata Havertown..and hated to cheat on Andy...but we need to get in town from time to time. Really nice addition to a great eating neighborhood.
