The place is comfortable and well located, not so far from downtown Detroit. However, I didn't like my order, the meat had a lot of nerves and the taste wasn't what I was expecting... Don't get me wrong I've had shawarmas before but this one just wasn't my cup of tea.

Tony Apperson

Google
First time visiting this location, food was on point, service was ok. Feel they could have been more organized or could have a better way of calling orders out. It's hard to hear them from the kitchen, and it doesn't feel too comfortable crowding the front area where people come to order. Overall, it was a good experience, though, I love a good Shawarma and this place sure did deliver. The Shawarma's were huge as well thought I'd be able to eat 2 but that was not happening lol.

Google
I come here all the time and get the same food every time. I bought 2 chicken bites with monster cheese they always put these cheese on there . I go today the young lady gives me only 2 lil containers with the cheese I asked for more then she told me she couldn’t . I paid $3 for that lil thing of cheese. I will never be back. I started to put all of it back and get my money back.

Food is good, but the garlic spread added so much more flavor to the food. Service is slow. Recommended to order online beforehand, especially if a big order. Good veg and falafel shawarma curly fries falafel sandwich.

Google
The food has been a hit or miss at this location. I recently purchased a salad and made it home in 10 minutes in air conditioning, and my lettuce was wilted and brown.

Wendy M (Rascal05)

Google
We were told there were no knives. They wouldn't cut our sandwich in half. The pieces in the salad were not bite size so it was impossible to eat. The food was great. It was very fresh. Make sure you bring your own utensils!!! Instead of announcing, they were closing, they gave us a subtle hint by slamming all of the stools on the counter no matter how close they were to you. Sorry but when a business is open until a specific time, it should be business as usual until that time.

Google
I had the lamb shawarma. Nothing to write home about. Very bland and tough! It was big, however. Next time I'll try the chicken.

George Jacobs

Google
Good food but employees seem a bit unwilling to help… I had to awkwardly stand at the pickup counter making eye contact with an employee trying to get their attention… With my order sitting on the counter and ready (the names are facing away from customers so I didn’t know)… Food was good, though.

Yelp
Went to the new opening in St Clair shores the food is awesome the service is great the staff is awesome and friendly the building is beautiful. Thank you for all the hard work you guys do Dave's sweet tooth staff. Some of us eat their three times a week

Yelp
The food is great good and fast and friendly. I really liked when I walked and no one was sitting down. Everyone was working. It smelled great in there fresh clean like chicken.

Yelp
Tied with Lafayette Coney Island for my favorite cheap/fast eats in Detroit. The beef shawarma is my go to but they've got a delicious and deep menu. Also - do you need to find a Detroit Police officer? Much like Lafayette the odds of finding an officer enjoying the food while you're dining are pretty good. Parking is usually really easy at this spot too.

Yelp
Bucharest is always a mandatory stop during my visits home. This trip, I ate here twice and got the same thing! There's so much chicken in the shawarma the flavors are awesome and I have not had a better shawarma anywhere!! I placed the order online, so I really didn't experience the service this trip. The restaurant looks nice inside and is in an upcoming area.
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped in for lunch and expected a crowd! This is a popular spot. My order was taken quickly. There was a short wait- each order is made fresh! I tried the lamb shawarma & learned I don't care for it. The chicken shawarma is tastier in my opinion. The fries are best when hot! There's seating and a wait area inside. They have parking right outside the door!

William B.

Yelp
Great establishment... quick and nice... I will gladly recommend this too others. Food was delicious and customer service was nice

Yelp
Chicken shawarmas and garlic spread. Come here pretty often. Too bad the one in corktown is gone!
google avatar

Yelp
Placed a takeout order. Is this a joke......... I asked for no tomatoes or pickles. I guess that meant no chicken.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
PETTY, rude employees. Foods good but the staff absolutely ruins it. The girls behind the counter purposely had our carryout take 30 minutes when it was dead in there. Literally a grilled tortilla. Just laughing with each other and staring like they got one up on us. Never returning to this location.
google avatar

Britane B.

Yelp
They have some of theeeee best salads hands down in Detroit. I don't have a photo but lemme tell you ! They load it up with chicken and veggies and they do not disappoint.

Yelp
I've had Bucharest Grill on my radar for ages and never visited until recently, and now I'm kind of upset that I waited this long. Nate and I were in town for a wedding and headed to the rehearsal. We'd been traveling all afternoon and didn't stop to get any lunch, so we were pretty hungry. I hopped on Yelp and saw that this Bucharest Grill and Baobab Fare were both pretty close to the venue. Since we had limited time, I opted for Bucharest Grill and it was perfect. There were plenty of parking spots right outside which was super convenient. We ordered a chicken shawarma to split since we just needed a small bite and would be heading to dinner later. The shawarma was quickly assembled and we dug in. The chicken was juicy and tender, and all the veggies were fresh and crisp. The pita itself was the thin, dry wrap type, which I usually find to be kind of stale and flavorless, but this one somehow wasn't. I loved the pickles and of course the garlic sauce was awesome! I really appreciated how tightly the shawarma was wrapped since we were dressed up and trying not to make a mess. The size was perfect to split for a light meal, and at $7 it was a great deal. We definitely had garlic breath but I didn't care, it was so delicious. I'd definitely come back and get a combo and try the lamb next time. If you need a quick bite and are craving shawama, check out Bucharest Grill.

Yelp
Oh My Goodness!!!!! And you have got to say that with soul!!! $17 of pure divine flavor fullness!!! The first bite seals the deal!! Full of robustness, from the peppers to the onions to the char flavor on the beef then wrapped in deliciousness! I had a sundress on that literally had drops of sauce from the juice drippin! I'm not playing! The BEST thing I have tasted in Detroit! And we have tired other places for food, I left hungry or unsatisfied, this mouthful made up for the lack of flavor I was getting! A must when visiting! Take it from a true foodie!!! That's it, that's my take! I'm ready for seconds....

Yelp
I love this place but sometimes it be iffy! I do believe it depends on the cooks for that day. I always get the Bucharest shawarma combo with straight cut fries. I love the shawarma and definitely the pickle makes a difference contrary to others belief, it also has fries in it, and honestly, in it or not it doesn't make a difference to me, but I love it! I have gotten it where my fries was cold and I reported it and my fries been on point ever since. I had the chicken shawarma salad which I love and the chicken is made to order, but as above depending on cooks, sometimes it's not seasoned right or they didn't marinate the chicken, that's the iffy part, chicken great one day , next time taste plain. The chicken quesadillas, stuffed peppers are great, I never been disappointed. Of course, pepper seem frozen bought, not home made, but good still. I had used Uber eats and they offered, BOGO on chicken bites, which is chicken , lettuce and ranch dressing, I bought that along the shawarma salad and the bites was salad itself, without cucumber and tomatoes and onions and I had too too much salad that one of the chicken bites went to waste, so buy chicken bites but you don't need another salad. My sister ordered the bites and pita bread and garlic spread and made her own pita wraps, I was impressed also delicious! Rule of thumb, never order day after holiday because they use day old food because they were closed on the holiday, I had to get a refund because I was sick and the food even the chicken was spoiled! I never went bk to rivertown location afterwards, I use downtown location. I do recommend this place, just not after the holiday itself.

Yelp
This is the place if you want some excellent swarmas as I always come to one of their locations in Detroit for them. They have one right by Comerica park and little Caesar's arena where the pistons and red wings play as well. I eat swarmas all the time in Dearborn and I'm telling you they have one the best I've ever had. Love this place and they get them out quick too.

Yelp
There have been times that haven't grabbed lunch Becuse I don't want to with the girls at the counter. I only order on line ever since they opened the Michigan ave one. The original had horrible customer service, the much on much ave shut down, the location at piquette is less than a 2 minute walk to prepare myself not to jump over the counter if they are rude. Last week ordered Falafel Quesadilla and those delicious Curley fries . Walk in to music blaring, girls on their phones. Now trying to look at speaker to at the register takes some skill. Nothing is ever greasy so bring your phone. And don't forget they are not responsible for any wrongly made food or not putting something in the bag. Falafel 2/5(it's scrapping the bottle) Curly Fries 4/5

Pamela A.

Yelp
The location on Piquette in midtown Detroit should be ashamed of themselves. I try and treat myself every now and then to a chicken swarma. Sent my daughter there yesterday gets the sandwich home, didn't eat it until later on and lo and behold... not a single slap of garlic spread on my swarma. They are eliminating it little by little because this is not the first time this has happened. I looked at it as an oversight the first time. Fool me once.... so now I'm paying for a dry swarma that I had to add mayo/ whatever I could find to moisten it and give it some authentic taste. So Bucharest, if youre reading this you might wanna email me and apologize/ give me my money back or correct this sleight of hand. Pun intended

Yelp
As a regular Yelper, I never think to review businesses that I frequent. I tend to only write reviews of new places visited. Let's change that... Bucharest Grill took Detroit by storm about a dozen 1/2 years or so years ago. I can't remember which location was opened first. I believe it was the full restaurant location that was behind the Fox Theater. It started as carryout only, but then opened the space to accommodate dining in; or either it was the carryout on Michigan Ave, by the old Tiger Stadium. In any case both have closed now. Shame cause the carryout on Michigan Ave was the place to stop after a night out downtown. It stayed on jam...and for good reason. Quick carry-out shawarmas are the perfect thing to eat on the run. Wrapped tightly in foil, they are fool-proof...and tasty. I usually have mine with chicken and extra pickles. I ordered from the Piquette location for lunch yesterday. The prices haven't increase much over the years. You can still have a nice lunch for about $12. I noticed that the steak salad is no longer on the menu. That saddened me as that salad was DIVINE. I'll miss it. Now I'll have to try to copy it home. *giggles* *TIP: order ahead...you can thank me later. I love the phone system, by the way. There is one number for all locations. Once dialed, you select the location you'd like to order from. Good stuff Bucharest.

Corey S.

Yelp
Today my supervisor placed an order. Half the order was missing. They did send the rest of the order, but the delivery was made on one of those rental scooters. My fries were what appeared to be the bottom of the bag fries. Very few full size curly fries. And I should have gotten a lamb shawarma, instead I got chicken. We order from here at least once a week and never had a problem Until today.

Kathren C.

Yelp
The food is amazing and always flavorful. I wish the staff was more friendly and not so rude. Other than that the place is always packed and the wait is about 25 minutes average. I always call in my order for faster pickup. My favs are the Trish salad, Chciken shawarma salad and the chicken shawarma sandwich.
google avatar

Gab D.

Yelp
Chicken shawarma for the win! Just recently tried Bucharest and absolutely loved the chicken shawarma! I ordered the box which came with curly fries which were also delicious. Excellent garlic sauce! So looking forward to ordering here often!

Asa Y.

Yelp
Worst location Every time I've been here I've waited 30 minutes plus and the staff all on their phones then touching the food
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
Didn't end up eating here since there was 4 of us and no seats, we didn't want to order our food and wait for a seat here on a Sunday for a late lunch for a 3 star spot. We will check it out again when we feel like a quick bite. Wishing the larger sit down Bucharest by the Fox was still open. Maybe we will have more patience another time on the weekend when it's not as busy.

Susan M.

Yelp
I don't know why their Google reviews are extra higher than it should be. The food was alright. The staffs were rude and don't give a shit. They forgot the hummus I ordered and salad dressings. The grape leaves were soggy. The chicken shawarma was salty. Good luck and never come back again. Rude services.

Yelp
Great service and food and the young ladies in the front are very helpful. Great place to grab lunch before work.
google avatar

Kelly Y.

Yelp
Always worth it. I get the 6 pack of schwarmas whenever I go. The bucharest one is my favorite (chicken+fries). I can easily eat one in a sitting, and my husband will often eat two (cause it just tastes so good!). I usually order online and then start walking over. It seems like you should let them know when you get there, so that they will start getting your order ready sooner!

Salvatore M.

Yelp
Food is delicious for when you're craving fat and carbs. Service is slow and the staff is not receptive to you at all. Lines are not orderly and there's constantly people cutting in front of you. I am always confused on how to order and pickup food. Ambiance is strange.
google avatar

Ruff O.

Yelp
Delicious food. Parking sucks !!!!! Fairly expensive for a "chicken sandwich ". They charge a fee for using credit card..... so I just deduct that from whatever tip I would have left.

Yelp
2019-10-08 Bucharest Grill. Detroit, MI. With four Detroit locations, I guess I should be more specific about this location. This is their "uptown" location by Milwaukee Junction on PIquette Ave at John R. Just down the street from the Ford Piquette Ave Plant. I was volunteering at Free Bikes 4 Kids whose 2019 headquarters happen to reside on the same complex as the Ford Plant, so I decided to lunch here. I walked here, but if you drive, they do have parking spaces on the property's boulevard. There's also street parking if the spaces fill up. Bucharest is a Shawarma and Burger joint. When I arrive, the place wasn't exactly packed, but it was busy. There was a steady turnover of diners and a constant stream of take out. An excellent lunch crowd by any standards. Their M.O. is fast food style service. You place your order, pay, wait for your order, then seat yourself. When you're done, you also pick up after yourself. I wasn't sure which way to go, burgers, or shawarma... ok it was shawarma hands down... but it could have been burgers, not! I looked around for spits of meat but unfortunately found none. I did see an open flamed grill as well as a flat top and a deep frying, so I was a little hopeful. The menu is pretty basic, they serve Shawarmas, Wraps, Burgers, and Sticks. They also have some appetizers and Specialties. I like that each heading only had a few selections. It cuts down on the decision making process and it gives them specialization on the dishes (i.e. a higher chance that whatever dish they make, it will be well made and executed). I wanted to order a few items, but knew I would not be able to finish them. After evaluating whether or not they could be consumed later, I concluded that eating fresh is always the better way to go. I didn't want to sabotage the ratings based on this so I decided that I would just have to return subsequent times to try the other dishes. Today I went with a Chicken Shawarma Stick, and the Chicken Shawarma Salad. Chicken Shawarma Stick. Essentially a skinny shawarma, it's shawarma meat, tomatoes, pickles, toum (whipped garlic) rolled into a pita and grilled. While the combination of ingredients was a good one, it wasn't worth the $4 price tag. 3 stars. Chicken Shawarma Salad. Chicken Shawarma meat atop a bed of greens with tomatoes, onions, and toum. The Shawarma meat was expertly booked on the grill complete with beautiful searing of the meat. The dish was served with a side of mass made pita bread, which I didn't really care for. As good as the dish looked, the proportion was off. There was definitely not enough sauce, and the tomato bled too much. A side of toum or tahini would have been a good complement to this, as would a rice option over the greens. But as the dish stands, 3 stars. Overall, a decent place. Would I return, sure, to try some of their other offerings (Baba Ganoush (Eggplant Dip) with Beef, Bucharest Shawarma, and possibly their Ribeye Steak Dinner), but I would already have to be in the area. 3 stars overall. If You would like to experience more, come dine-with-me.yelp.com I'd love to have your company... Bon Appétit!

Melanie M.

Yelp
Walked in and ordered, which was taken immediately. good service chicken was burnt though.

Laurie P.

Yelp
Love this place, but their hours are not what's listed on Yelp. They close at 8p M-Th, 10p Friday, and closed Sat/Sun.
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
Thick sirloin burgers are done well and tasty with the standard toppings. The chicken shawarma salad was really good. It had equal amounts of grilled chicken and vegetables, my favorite proportion. Lots of parking at this location but few seats for dining in. With the low prices and large portions, this is a good tasting deal.

Ciara G.

Yelp
Poor service. Order for pickup. Received emailed confirmation that it would be ready but it wasn't. I had to wait an additional 10 mins. When asked if I could have a drink they while I wait due to their poor service I was ignored. Lily the manager did not try to resolve the issue at all. Bucharest is great. Just NOT this one. Do better!

Yelp
This was a first time visit for me and my brother, Jeff. He resides nearby and I decided to spend the day with him in Detroit. He suggested this place as he went by it recently and thought it looked interesting. I was skeptical as it isn't located in the best of areas. Turns out the area seems pretty safe and there is plenty of parking on the grounds. Not knowing what to order I ordered a couple of things just so I could try them. Jeff had the skinless sausage, I had the steak salad, we had a side of the garlic spread and an order of stuffed pepper. The winner; it was a tie between the flavorful garlic spread and the O..M..G..flavorful grill cooked skinless sausage. The loser was my steak salad. I asked the steak be cooked medium and it was cooked well done. The steak was tough, loaded with fat, dry and just not very good at all. The salad underneath the 'steak' was very good. The stuffed pepper was also very good but not near as delicious as the garlic spread and sausage. The seating is not comfortable as there are nothing but stools and high-tops. The employees were very friendly and professional. The prices were very reasonable.

Yelp
Driving home one night I realized that this Bucharest Grill was somewhat on my way back. I hadn't had Bucharest since they moved out of Park Bar so I was very excited to stop in. And other than the new location it was just as I remembered. Deliciously, garlicky chicken shawarma, crispy and hot curly fries....it all hit the spot in the most magical way! The space is nice and warm with lots of wood accents. There's a good amount of seating for dining in (although most of it is bar style seating) and the Pepsi machine has been upgraded to a flavor shot Pepsi dispenser (add cherry and the like to your bevvies). Prices remain the same, which is to say very reasonable given the size of the portions. Staff is fine. Not overly warm but efficient. Food came out quickly and was hot and great. I scarfed that baby down and was on the road within a half hour. Perfect for a quick bite. Plenty of parking in their private lot too. Definitely my favorite of the new Bucharest locations. Hands down.

Yelp
OMG MY GOODNESS! This place is G H E T T O! The cashier girl was NOT wearing her mask! I ordered online and she claims that she can't find my order only for it to not even be ready when I ordered it to be ready at a certain time. She spoke super low, I could barely hear ANYTHING she was saying. I won't be coming here again.

Mya B.

Yelp
I'm allergic to tomatoes and received tomatoes, that's it that's the post. Service was a good 5.5/10
google avatar

Elmer G.

Yelp
this place sucks ! always some type of gross stuff I find in my food here. either hairs or spoiled meat. they slow af too and overcharge for everything. rude af staff too. go to dearborn if you want a real shawarma. this place a joke fr.
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
Bucharest is a Detroit staple. I don't even like Mediterranean food but will definitely eat a shawarma from here. It was my fiancé's birthday and he chose this as his quick, easy meal. Ordering online was great! I set a pick up time and it was ready when I got there with no wait. This location isn't my favorite but the most convenient for me after work. The garlic spread is the best and the pita is so soft. Bucharest shawarma with the fries inside is a must. And like I said, I really like Mediterranean food so I got a quesadilla and it was delicious.
google avatar

Alicia H.

Yelp
Nothing like a good shawarma, so why go anywhere else?! Grab one from from here and side of curly fries then you'll be all set

C K.

Yelp
Seems like the staff was purposely trying to be as slow as possible. No sense of urgency with a lobby full of people waiting. Waited for 25 minutes and saw my food sit in the window for a considerable amount of time before it was given to us, food was cold as a result. People who ordered after us got their food before us. Food is pretty okay, would be 1 star otherwise.
google avatar

Deanna C.

Yelp
The chicken shawarma are very flavorful and I love the chicken quesadilla I can't say much about anything else because that's I order from here
google avatar

Yelp
It was tasty but it wasn't what I ordered. Cashiers were busy twerking. Listening is a skill. Verify your order before paying,

Yelp
Okay I ordered 3 sliders with cheese and onions $6.00. what I got was something that has lamb in it and I don't eat lamb so I am sitting here looking at something that was supposed to be my dinner. Yes I asked what was on the slider, and what was the slider before I ordered it; since I have never been to this particular Bucharest Grill. I was told it is a regular slider topped off with grilled onions. When I get home with my to-go order and open it up and bite into the slider The Taste is repulsive quite literally. I am attaching a picture to prove that I did not eat this food because it is not something that I ordered and I am certainly not going to ask them for a refund because they should have told me the truth when I ordered and said that this burger was mixed with lamb. I would never have ordered anything with lamb in it since I do not eat lamb . Now I am sitting here with no dinner and definitely not considering going to Bucharest Grill again. wow why do restaurants do this?
google avatar

Jill H.

Yelp
Some of the best marinated chicken for shawarma wraps, salad, you name it! The hummus and garlic sauce are excellent, though they could spare a few pieces of pita with the appetizer portion. Curly fries are bomb. I have never had a bad experience with service or food at this location.
google avatar

Federico G.

Yelp
Questionable choice of staff. A brief interaction of picking up an order with some minor confusion through Doordash and was met with snarky comments and passive aggressively referred to as "slow." from one of the young female employees. Should probably consider re-training cashiers/servers on restaurant etiquette. Or just hire different people. Food is great though!

Yelp
Update...9/22/16 I don't know what's happened to Bucharest. I frequent this location because it's basically across the street from me. The service here is just SO slow. I remember no matter how busy the downtown location was, they were always fast and their customer service was better. If my food is gonna take longer than what I'm told then I would like to at least be updated. But hey, cheap food, I shouldn't expect 5 star treatment, lol. Moreover, I'm not much older but these young kids are just so slow and always talking to eachother. Even more so, the chicken isn't as good as it used to be. Maybe it was an off night, I don't know, but the chicken was so tough, rubbery, and cartilage-like ! Really off-putting tonight. I'll try the other locations. ------- SO happy this place opened up on Piquette! It's down the street from me so no more going through the hassle downtown. The place was really nice and clean, and bigger than I expected. Food is great as always. Happy eating! :)

Yelp
Homestyle Potatoes....are homestyle veggies with a dash of potatoes!!! It wasn't bad but I'd definitely need MORE potatoes.
google avatar

Kelly A.

Yelp
If you order anything, stick to the shawarma and fries. I decided to try a burger for the first time yesterday and it turned out to be not only lamb, but was definitely marinated slab meat. It would be one thing if the menu stated that the burgers are lamb as opposed to ground beef, but regardless, the flavor profile of whatever meat I received is not really suitable for burger toppings. Thankfully I don't have any dietary restrictions to lamb, but some people do. At another prior visit, I ordered the homestyle potatoes on the side. I ended up with some severely undercooked, flavorless ultra-thin slices of potatoes in a bowl of sautéed peppers and onions. Not tasty. Service was reasonably fast, employees were kind and focused on their job. No critique there. Vegetarian shawarma, my usual, is always on point. ***I would recommend that Bucharest either reconsider some of the items on their menu, or put descriptions and ingredient lists on the wall at this location.***

Yelp
Their Livernois location is trash. This is the fourth time I have gone there after ordering food online it is taking them anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to provide my order. I will never go back.
