Buchon Yukhoe

"Occupying a corner of the well-established raw beef alley of Gwangjang Market, Buchon Yukhoe has been in business since 1965, originally started as Buchon Sikdang selling short rib soup. The founding matriarch’s original Jeollado Province-style raw beef, seasoned with red chili paste, gave way to the more popular Seoul-style in the 1980s, seasoned with sesame oil and eaten with matchstick pears. Try the raw beef bibimbap for a more substantial meal. Locally sourced beef is delivered to the restaurant each morning." - Michelin Inspector

This is a very famous restaurant that needs no introduction. In a local atmosphere, you can enjoy odorless octopus yukke and raw liver. The food is served on a large plate, so it feels like a good deal. For two people, you will get full surprisingly quickly, so you should be careful about the dishes you choose.

Super fresh and service is quick. The beef tartare is very tender and well cut and seasoned nicely. The octopus is also very fresh and the texture is awesome. Their soup was also amazing and comes with the order. You have to order a portion per person which is not a-lot of food but just know that before you go. There were 13 parties ahead of us and we only had to wait 15 minutes before our table was ready. Their queuing system is pretty straight forward as you just add you name and contact information and you can see live updates on your table so as you wait you can explore the rest of the market as well!

Buchon Yukhoe is an absolute gem! The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating to our big group, making us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. They even went out of their way to help us when we accidentally left something behind—super honest and thoughtful service! The food was top-notch too. The beef yukhoe was so fresh and tender, with that perfect balance of flavor and texture. The octopus was also really nice—chewy yet not too tough, and full of flavor. Overall, it was an amazing experience with great food and exceptional service. Highly recommend for anyone craving quality Korean dishes!

Gotta try their signature Korean beef and live octopus, and my experience was a bit of a mixed bag. The live octopus didn’t quite live up to my expectations. I’ve had it before, and it’s usually best with wasabi and soy sauce, but that wasn’t offered here. As for the raw beef, it was pretty mediocre—not what I’d expect from a Michelin-rated spot. Oh well….the radish beef soup is a surprise. Overall, I can't say I’d recommend this place if you're looking for something truly special. There are definitely better options out there!

Food: ordered the bibimbap (10000 won) and it was so good. The raw beef did not seem like something I would like but it was surprisingly delicious. Almost chewy textured (close to a lean sashimi) with a light taste of sesame oil. Dipping the beef in the yellow oil sauce was yummy but also mixing everything together with the bibimbap sauce and rice was super flavorful. Service: super fast throughout, we got our orders after 2 mins. Atmosphere: nothing to highlight.

Very fresh and tasty beef tartare with live octopus — a unique and interesting experience. Located in a cute covered market with lots of other food stalls around.

TLDR; Never in my life I would set my foot into this restaurant again. We booked a table, and my friend and family arrived first. When I joined them and just sit down, I was say straight in my face by one of the server that I cannot sit, they won't serve me, and the chair was taken away from me in an incredibly rude way. It was even in front all of my friend and family. I'm an East Asian - always nice and humble everywhere I go, and normally got treated with respect back. This is one of the rare time I felt so discriminated and embarrassed. How about treat me like a human being and just explain to me what happened? It's the customer service 101 - but they seem to not want to care about it at all. I don't think this restaurant should or deserve to have a Michelin poster outside of its store if this is what they did to a customer. I would also recommend everyone to avoid it if you want yourselves to be treated with kindness and dignity.

the main store was crowded when we got to it at 4pm on a thursday afternoon. the staff ushered us to their second restaurant out along the main road about 100m away. we had to register but we didnt wait longer than 10mins for a group of 2 people even though there was a queue outside. the food was AMAZING. we had the yukhoe and the live octopus. the octopus was alright, but the beef tartare (yukhoe) was the best ive had. i understand why its a michelin guide place!
