For those of you out of the loop, "Buckhead" is actually an area (as the actual Buckhead, GA is off of I-20 near Greensboro, GA) that covers "uptown" Atlanta.
Buckhead has a lot to offer, but with the shit traffic as of late, you can't experience anything when you are sitting in f'in traffic! Last night, it took me 1 HOUR to get from the GA 400 exit 2 to the Lenox Road/Peachtree intersection. That's not even a mile... today it took me 18 minutes to get from Phipps to church (about 2 miles down the road). I don't know if its Spring Fever, all of the damn out of towners, or the road work- but by the time you get to your destination, it seems like you don't even wanna do anything.
With that being said, when you do reach your destinations, you have 2 powerhouse malls, and formerly (which sucks) the only city in the States to have 2 5AAADiamond/5 Mobil Star restaurants within miles of eachother (God bless their souls, The Dining Room at the Ritz, Buckhead and Seeger's), NY or San Francisco couldn't even brag about that!
This is the place to be seen. Every night, it seems the patios of dining establishments are packed watching cars go by. Churches are mobbed at any given time (the church I am a member of is right smack in the middle of the madness), and there is a godo chance you will see a Bentley race a Lambo, or something along those lines. Hell, today I saw my first Lime Green Escalade with matching rims dart out of Lenox. Ha.
A lot of changes over the years- I saw that the Roxy is now the Buckhead Theater (wtf is that?!)... No more ESPN Zone (where else could I get my mega sports arcade on?)...
If you want to experience a less stressful B'head, come during the week before lunch or right after (but be weary of rush hour)- this is when I prefer to go. It's amazing the difference of the amount of people there (like comparing Phipps last night to tonight was a night and day difference).
If you want history, you have to go off the main path. You will find more in the neighboring hoods (like Brookhaven)- however, I would like to give a special mention to West Paces Ferry Road, one of my favorites in the city (Tuxedo Rd and Valley Rd being my favs). Off of WPF, there lies the Atlanta History Center, which I have yet to visit- I am sure it will give you a better picture of the history! I guess what I am trying to say is, the more historical parts are as you leave Buckhead and head towards Midtown (another shout out- check out Peachtree Battle Ave. WOW!).
I guess at the end of the day, you have your mix of modern meets old world meets hip meets money. It is a definitely unique area. It will be interesting to see what happens when ALL of the construction is finished around the area- there is a LOT of it going on!
