On the Grid : Bucktown Pub

"Bucktown Pub has been in the neighborhood since the 30's. This is definitely a low-key spot that is great for having a drink, and catching up with friends. They have a solid rotating beer offering and unlimited access to free popcorn. I have also been told that there is a great trivia night on Thursdays, beware of Fart Goat." - Lee Zelenak

This distressed traveler on a scooter, needing to pee, a beer, cigarette, and an electric outlet. Heard of, knew of Bucktown Pub 🍻 from passing by. This was my first time in. Ordered my beer. Told of my dilemma about having a nearly dead battery on a scooter And was in search of and permission for using an electrical outlet that was met by very many ears, one of them spoke up and said, there is an outlet right there. I asked if I could use it, and someone else (who I'd not met until they were on their way out) gave his permission. Immediately it felt comfortable, at home, welcomed. Later on, I was met by the tamale guy and man oh man this guy better not go anywhere! some of the greatest tamales I've ever had!!

Met with a group of friends on a Saturday night at 10:00pm and were told by an employee to quiet down. Really surprised for a bar that has a bouncer at the door on a weekend there is a volume limit. I arrived late and the volume was no louder than the bar I passed by a block away to get to this one. Prices were good on drinks though. Some good weekday deals.

Hard pass. With all the pubs in town you certainly skip past this place. Early Friday evening, I stopped in to order one beer. After having to ask for a glass, and upon pouring my beer I noticed a thick residue stuck on the 1/4 of top glass where I went to take my first sip. We had to wait back in line where she refused to switch the glass until she had “proper utensils”? Confused (and thirsty!) we continued waiting. She finally had time to acknowledge us and I proceed to say, all I’d like was a new glass when she decided to yell back at me. Customer service is clearly not a priority here. It is unfortunate as I live down the street and was hoping to enjoy the Chicago summers at this Pub but I do not plan on returning.

Place is kind of shoddy as you might see in the pictures and it doesn’t help that the bar staff has some pretty bad attitudes. I went there yesterday with three friends and had to step out side to take a phone call in the cold and wind. So I stood in the vestibule by the front door to keep from freezing. The guy working the door took it upon himself to cop an attitude with me as though I were blocking people from being able to come into the place. I stepped outside of the vestibule and he still continued to have a problem. Not really sure why an establishment would aggressively chase off their patrons when it was barely even busy on St. Patrick’s Day, one of the busiest days of the year. The bartender/ maybe owner came out as well, and he seemed to be a little more chill about it, possibly realizing that his doorman was in the wrong, but still didn’t bother doing anything about it. So the four of us ended up leaving which meant there were probably only 10 or 12 patrons left in the place. Free popcorn though

Everything you expect from a neighborhood pub. Dog a permitted, so there a usually a few furry friends to pat while you drink. Great place to relax after work

Seems like a great local spot. I came to town from Cali for work. The bartenders are good and I enjoyed the beer selection.

Dog friendly says it all! There could not be a happier place to have a pint, with tails wagging all around you from joyful puppers! Their beer garden out back is very nice and feels secluded. I went for a doggy event and it was so much fun!
