On the Grid : Bucktown Pub

"Bucktown Pub has been in the neighborhood since the 30's. This is definitely a low-key spot that is great for having a drink, and catching up with friends. They have a solid rotating beer offering and unlimited access to free popcorn. I have also been told that there is a great trivia night on Thursdays, beware of Fart Goat." - Lee Zelenak

Tamale Guy Visits 20 Bars and Makes 1,500 Tamales on First Day Back - Eater Chicago

"Velez and his family launched their new operation, the Authentic Tamale Guy, from the West Loop bar and later that night he stopped at bars like Bucktown Pub." - Ashok Selvam

As Bars Stay Closed, Chicago’s Legendary Tamale Guy Tests Home Delivery | Eater Chicago

"Allegedly established in 1932, I think of this place as one of the city’s oldest and best-hidden gems — a home away from home where the High Life and White Claw are ice-cold and the draft beer is, as they put it, “fancy.” I also associate it with the Tamale Guy, who used to show up at bars like this selling six tamales in a plastic bag (corn husks) and rescuing late-night patrons; those tamales have fluffy masa and plump chicken or pork, come with salsa verde in small plastic ramekins, and bring back memories of cheap beers, pool tables, and waiting for the jukebox — they even seemed a little saltier when enjoyed without alcohol." - Ashok Selvam

‘Wayne’s World’ Pop-Up Bar Will Allow Bucktown to Party on ’90s Style | Eater Chicago

"I saw that Bucktown Pub will host a 10-day Wayne’s Basement pop-up starting April 20 and running through April 29, transforming the space into a '90s suburban Aurora, Illinois basement complete with a couch, chair and guitar. They’ll have Wayne’s World–themed Around the Bend beers on tap and a ridiculous Garth drink — described as a large-format, tiki-like beverage — and GM Autumn Giltner said there will be about four signature cocktails; she’s even toying with making the Garth drink pricey and donating proceeds to a charity, perhaps one that donates music instruments to underprivileged kids. The pop-up is a collaboration with Around the Bend, which will rename six of its beers with playful titles like “A Sphincter Says What?,” staff will dress up, and customers are encouraged to wear costumes. Bucktown Pub is owned by Footman Hospitality and is touted on its page as allegedly established in 1932, one of the city’s oldest and best-hidden gems — a home away from home where the High Life is as cold as the White Claw and the draft beer is “fancy.”" - Ashok Selvam

Classic pub experience that is dog friendly. They allow them inside or in their outdoor beer garden so it's a perfect spot to bring your pup in the cold or rain. They also have a great local selection of beers. I highly recommend!

I really enjoy going to Bucktown Pub. The atmosphere is cozy and friendly, and the staff are welcoming. They have a good selection of beers and some tasty cocktails. I also like their outdoor beer garden, especially in nice weather. It is a great place to relax with friends or just have a quiet drink. The prices are reasonable, and the service is good. I will definitely come back.

This distressed traveler on a scooter, needing to pee, a beer, cigarette, and an electric outlet. Heard of, knew of Bucktown Pub 🍻 from passing by. This was my first time in. Ordered my beer. Told of my dilemma about having a nearly dead battery on a scooter And was in search of and permission for using an electrical outlet that was met by very many ears, one of them spoke up and said, there is an outlet right there. I asked if I could use it, and someone else (who I'd not met until they were on their way out) gave his permission. Immediately it felt comfortable, at home, welcomed. Later on, I was met by the tamale guy and man oh man this guy better not go anywhere! some of the greatest tamales I've ever had!!

Met with a group of friends on a Saturday night at 10:00pm and were told by an employee to quiet down. Really surprised for a bar that has a bouncer at the door on a weekend there is a volume limit. I arrived late and the volume was no louder than the bar I passed by a block away to get to this one. Prices were good on drinks though. Some good weekday deals.

Dog friendly says it all! There could not be a happier place to have a pint, with tails wagging all around you from joyful puppers! Their beer garden out back is very nice and feels secluded. I went for a doggy event and it was so much fun!

I'm old enough to remember the old regulars talk about Wally, the old owner, who shot himself in upstairs apartment back in the 70s. But while his ghost hasn't been seen in ages, not much has really changed despite the regular renovations and "improvements". It just goes to show that gentrification doesn't necessarily have to destroy a classic neighborhood joint. The faces may change, the property values increase, and the strollers get fancier, but folks still need a place to push back and relax.
