12 Fantastic Coffee Cocktails to Knock Back in Portland | Eater Portland

"Tucked in an unassuming little strip mall on 82nd Avenue, the dive bar Buddy’s Lounge may not be the most obvious destination for cocktails, but the recent legislature to allow takeout drinks meant the bar could start serving boozy bubble tea to-go. Most of them are made with tea, but Buddy’s also serves a whiskey and boba take on ca phe sua da, the classic Vietnamese coffee drink. It’s rich, creamy, and sweet, and diners can also order a $3 plate of nachos to qualify for the required food purchase." - Alex Frane

This Southeast Portland Bar Has Started Serving Boozy Boba To-Go | Eater Portland

"I found that Buddy’s Lounge, opened by Brian Jiang (a Portland State alum who learned bubble tea techniques in Taiwan) and partner Neil Chan near SE 82nd, pivoted from a conventional bar to selling sealed boozy boba for takeout after COVID closures and the legalization of to‑go cocktails. They repurposed bubble‑tea sealing machines to offer drinks like Assam black tea spiked with whiskey, Thai tea with rum and brown sugar boba, a jasmine-green‑tea–infused Greyhound with rainbow jellies, and a “Tea Bomb” combining Guinness and whiskey with black tea and brown sugar boba; Jiang’s favorite is a milk tea given a kick with a shot of whiskey. After experimenting to keep drinks cold without melting ice, they now sell the sealed drinks with wide straws for puncturing the plastic seal, offer $3 nachos to satisfy the food requirement, and are available for takeout at 8220 SE Harrison Street with plans for Postmates delivery; Portland had little history of alcoholic boba before this project." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Simple, roomy bar with friendly bartenders. Food prices are good - especially for pizza. I’ve been told the pizza is good but have only had drinks here. Not a cozy place but seems to be the only bar in the area. Happy hour daily 3-6. This is a popular video poker and slot machine location.

we stopped in on a friday afternoon, and AJ was our bartender. she was amazing!! :) seriously set the vibes for whole place, and she puts LOVE into the drinks she makes- you can taste the difference. i recommend a hennessy lemon drop, or a raspberry kamikaze!!

Very friendly staff, minimal menu but great choices, affordable and very tasty. I love the very creative idea of boozy bubble tea. Their drinks do have a very strong alcohol taste, but if you're fine with that they are very delicious and satisfying. Some of the best tapioca pearls I've ever had in a boba tea.

Definitely the cheapest Jello Shots in town but I think they might also be the best. $1.50 a pop with flavors like Strawberry Shortcake, Pink Starburst, Margarita, and Cherry. Each one made with different liquor. A couple of tvs showing sports or whatever you ask for. The shopping center also has some amazing food if you take a look around!

Love this little neighborhood bar! Sometimes it's really busy, other times not so much but the service is always spot on. Haven't had much good but what I've had was good.

Yelp
Enjoyed the decor :) Staff was super welcoming & friendly! Not many people on during the evening in the middle of the week beside the local regulars. No more boba :/

Yelp
Loveee the concept. Milk tea and alcohol, two of my favorite things. But probably best not together. It's exactly how you would imagine it to taste. I had the classic whiskey milk tea and it was not great. Veryyyy sweet too. Although I have to say, it would've been more tolerable to drink if I didn't order a double shot. It took around 20 minutes for the drinks to be prepared and I would suggest ordering ahead on Postmates to be delivered or picked up instead. For the price, I'd say buy yourself a milk tea elsewhere and throw a shot of your fav alcohol in there at home.

Yelp
Better not waste your time trying to order from this place. They'll accept the order and you'll wait an hour, only to be told you need to substitute another item for everything you ordered and now they are out of everything on the menu. Waste of my time and money, because I can't even cancel the order now without being charged. This is less than 2 hours after they opened at 4pm, the order was placed (and they confirmed it themselves) at 4:58pm. Don't offer a service if you can't actually provide it, and don't confirm an order you can't even fill. We will not bother trying again.

Yelp
If you're ordering to go you'll have to order food with it as well for permit reasons. We ordered nachos to go for this reason. It was just chips, shredded cheese (unmelted), and ground beef. For drinks we ordered the hokkaido whiskey and the spiked cafe su da. It was underwhelming. To recreate this just order boba outside and add vodka or whiskey. That's essentially what it tasted like. There wasn't much creativity here. Quality overall seemed like anything a college kid would whip up in his/her dorm room.
