Ann Arbor’s Best Pizza, Mapped | Eater Detroit

"Even though Ann Arbor is close to Detroit, it wasn’t until recently that diners here could enjoy a bonafide Detroit-style pizza in a restaurant. Buddy’s, the originator of the style, opened its doors in late 2017 on the far south side. Since then, the dining room has been packed with pizza enthusiasts enjoying the classic square pizza with its caramelized cheese and light, spongy crust." - John Reyes

Tried this place as a recommendation, first time try Detroit style and this place does a great job! Wing are fantastic (no picture), so good we ordered some more. 4-Square is plenty for any adult. This place is wonderful, don't miss the opportunity to try it when in town.

Google
We ordered carry out. The 4 square is a great size to have for a couple, and it’s far plenty enough! The Public TV pizza with old world pepperoni on top is absolutely MIND blowing. I’m from North Carolina and this was my first time trying Detroit style pizza, and I can confidently say it’s some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. You will not regret trying this! PS: if you’re looking for a starter to have with a bit more protein since the pizza is carb heavy, go for the meatballs. They’re absolutely delicious!!

Klaus

Google
Great Detroit style Pizza. I recommend to make your own rather than to pick one from the menu - cheaper and tastier. Download the app and sign up before visiting for the best deal. The pizza are rather small for the price, but delicious.

Google
One of the best pizzas I've had in some time and the best Detroit Style I've ever had. I honestly don't understand why Jets Pizza is such a widely found franchise and I've never seen a Buddy's Pizza except for in MI. They should be much more spread across the country. My pizza was hot and freshly made, just the right amount of juiciness vs crispy crust. I guess I will be coming back to MI if I want the best Detroit Style pizza! 😘

Google
Everything about this place was phenomenal! Service was quick, the atmosphere was bustling, and the food 🍕 hit the spot. I'm a huge fan of Detroit-style pizza, so this satisfied my cravings 👅. You need to give this place a try!! Note: Oops, I ate half the pizza before remembering to take the picture 📸

Spending a few days in Ann Arbor for a hockey camp hosted by the University of Michigan. Wanted to try a local pizza place, so checked out Buddy’s Pizza. Was not expecting too much, however was delighted to hear that they have Detroit Deep Dish Pizza. Walked in to such an amazing atmosphere and was immediately greeted by Bella who welcomed us in. To drink, I ordered a Michigan classic Vernon’s Ginger Ale and for my meal (lunch) I ordered their 4-Square pizza deal at an amazing price of $9.99. This pizza was unbelievably amazing and absolutely loved it! Bella also waited on us and was extremely helpful, kind, and told us about night time sports bar options, which all seem to be great recommendations. Thank you Buddy’s Pizza! This place is awesome!

Google
The food was incredible, it was my first time eating Detroit style pizza, and it was my first meal in town. Somehow the crust was both pillowy and crispy at the same time. I could eat an entire pan of that shit. Absolutely based pizza. I got the Italian something something, and added dill and roasted onions to it. The wait staff was super chill, very friendly, the drinks were a little expensive but I just had to get the coriander beer. Do it. Eat in here, don't just get takeout.

Google
We went to this pizza place recently, and unfortunately, it wasn’t a great experience. The pizza was really greasy, and the sauce was spread messily all over, making it hard to enjoy. There was barely any cheese, which made the whole thing feel unbalanced and kind of thrown together. When we brought it up to the waiter, they were pretty sassy and didn’t seem to care at all. Overall, not somewhere we’d want to go back to.

Yelp
This place is great! First visit and we sat at the bar. A friend gave us a free pizza voucher and we had to come try it. The baked meatballs are delicious. Recommended with marinara but you can get meat sauce instead. Comes with four pieces of garlic bread. It's definitely a meal. I would come back for that app with a bowl of minestrone soup and call it dinner. Wednesday is half off glasses of wine. Score!! Food and service is great.

Yelp
For YEARS Ive heard the hype about Buddy's Pizza. I finally got an opportunity to check it out. Is it worth the hype? No. Maybe I got the "wrong" Pizza and others are better but I got the Detroiter and didn't care for the cheese. Jets has this place beat hands down. Felt the Pizza was overpriced for how thin it is. I suppose it's technically deep dish but again not thick like Jets for example. The Greek salad on the other hand was incredible. Five stars for that. Fresh, excellent ingredients, great dressing, nice portion. Something I wasn't bothered by but I know would be a point of contention for some people...I ordered a Vernors and wasn't told when I ordered that it's not free refills. It's not stated on the menu and is listed with the other soft drinks. Again...I wasn't too bothered (especially since I sat with an empty soda almost my entire meal without being asked if I needed another) but especially for people with kids, it would be nice to be told upfront when ordering. Regarding service, our server was nice enough once we ordered but not particularly quick or attentative and kind of started out on the wrong foot when we were sat at a dirty table and I asked if the table could be wiped down. I was told the table hadn't been sat all day and that (can't remember the words now) it wasn't dirty but something else on/with the table. Not really sure how that was relevant. If someone asks to have the table wiped it should just be wiped. It was CLEARLY dirty with food spilled on it and after being told it hadn't been sat all day I was kind of grossed out thinking that means it hadn't been cleaned the night before. Used the restrooms while we were there and they were filthy, too, with garbage cans so full that garbage was falling out. Perfectly understandable that sometimes that can't be avoided if you're slammed but the place was mostly empty. Average experience and food. Excellent salad.

Yelp
We have returned for another visit since we had a great experience with the delicious pizza and not everyone had a chance to try it last time. I like that there was a gluten free option for my sister. We ordered it and they do take gluten free seriously. Although the crust is not quite the same, it was very good. My family just devoured it all. It was so yummy for my pizza lovers. We'll be back next time we're in town. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Traveling and staying in AA, spent a day in Detroit, but missed out on Detroit style pizza so we were thrilled to find Buddy's! We loved the deeper dish, square cuts, and sauce/flavor. We enjoyed some cheesy bread and cocktails first, thank goodness because our pizza took over an hour! If you are at all a cherry lover - get the Michigan Mule - it was sooo good! Also, our first time trying Michigan's own - Vernor's Ginger Ale - it was freaking amazing (kinda like a ginger beer meets cream soda). We had incredibly customer service, despite the wait, she was helpful with our drink orders, left us the leftover Vernor's post cocktail mixing - and checked in frequently with us. We really enjoyed the vibe, food, and minus the long wait, the overall experience!

Yelp
The location itself was nice. The waitress was kind and the food arrived quickly. The portions themselves are very generous-4 squares were more than enough to feed our party of 2. However, the pizza itself was just okay. Maybe it was the specific type we chose, but it was rather underwhelming. It wasn't bad by any means, just did not meet the Buddy's hype we heard about.
google avatar

Whisper W.

Yelp
We stopped in to Buddy's at the end of our trip. We got a medium salad, Michigan Mule, and 2 -4 square pizzas - the detroiter ( my fav) and the 6 mile. The salad was tossed in their homemade vinaigrette and their crust had the perfect crunch and was very light. Server was great as well.

Nick C.

Yelp
Thursday evening, no line, no wait for a table. We waited an hour and a half for a medium salad, a small bbq pizza and a large pepperoni pizza. Free breadsticks doesn't cover it.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious Detroit style Pizza!! We always stop in if on a road trip they have several locations but I have only been to the Ann Arbor location always have had very good service with friendly staff and delicious pizza my husband does not eat cheese and they are always accommodating and he loves their pizza too. So if in the Michigan area look for a buddy's Pizza you won't be sorry
google avatar

Yelp
The pizza was above and beyond my expectations! I ordered the Motown Museum that came with pepperoni and bacon, which is closer to your classic pizza flavor, and I would recommend trying it. My partner loves heavy flavors in his food and ordered The Henry Ford which had a lasagna-like flavor with blue cheese (his favorite cheese). There was plenty of parking in the lot. No wait in the middle of the day at around 3pm. The restaurant was sit down dining and reminded me a lot of BJ's restaurant and brewhouse. The service was good, and the pizza takes about 20 mins to come out.
google avatar

Kelsey I.

Yelp
I got some apps for takeout and it was promptly ready and I had a great pickup experience at the window, I'm just not a huge fan of the food. I've had pizza there before and didn't like the red sauce. This time I tried some apps, but didn't like the green peppery taste from the meatballs. The cheese fries are actually wedges and are just okay.

Yelp
Came here for some Detroit deep dish pizza! Got a foursquare size of the Sicilian, super 6 mile, and a Greek town. All were excellent. My favorite was the super 6 mile. Took some home, and it tasted just as good the second day.
google avatar

Ike R.

Yelp
Stopped by on a Tuesday afternoon. Busy but not crowded. We were seated immediately. Pursued the pizza menu. Got a four square of the Greektown the super 6 mile and the Sicilian. We wanted some variety. The Greek pizza was excellent. Had lots of feta and of course the buddies crispy edges on the crust. I like the 6 mile as well. It was very cheesy and flavorful. The Sicilian is great for a meat lover and although it was my third favorite, it was still mighty fine . The server was friendly, he did forget a water, but that was ok. The decor has plenty of televisions for your football viewing options. It is warm and kind of cozy although there's a lot of brick, the decor is comfortable.

Yelp
We ordered the Chicken wings, Mozzarella cheese stick, and Greektown pizza. It was a pretty short wait of 25 minutes. Chicken wings and the mozzarella cheese stick was okay, pretty standard to what you'd get elsewhere. The pizza was phenomenal. Love the different toppings especially the feta cheese. And the base layer cheese has a heftiness to it which makes the perfect proportion of cheese to topping to crust. The crust is hidden underneath all the goodness, only peeping from the edge with a crispy finish. This is my first time trying Detroit style pizza and I am very impressed with it!
google avatar

Yelp
Fast service, great decor food was fabulous. This salad was a medium and would have fed 3 of us 2 times over alone. The Italian pizza was dynamite 3 pieces left over feeding two but that was with a huge salad so this pie would satisfy two for sure stand alone. The burger was the "Robby Burger" phenomenal tasting burger cooked to order, a happy medium. Robby is drenched with the Buddy's awesome sauce so be sure to get extra napkins. Great meal for a very reasonable price definitely will revisit.

Yelp
First time trying Detroit style pizza! Very cute looking place. Our server was excellent and super friendly. Ordered the antipasto salad, chicken tenders, Detroit Public Tv, and Henry Ford. The server let me choose a couple of sauces for the tenders so don't have to just stick with one! The pizza was bready and soft with crunchy sides. I don't eat pizza often but I enjoyed this style of pizza. The Henry ford was really good but I couldn't really taste the blue cheese. The salad came with a ton of salami on top and the I like their vinaigrette dressing. A medium salad is definitely enough or more for at least 6 people (we had 4 and thought it was too much). Would definitely come try another flavor if I get the chance to visit again!

Yelp
Absolutely yes. We love Buddy's! We probably go too much, but it's really close to us and so easy to go to... My husband and I have a formula for dinner at this point. I get the Buddy Brew draft, brewed by Griffin Claw exclusively for Buddy's, and it's a delicious beer. We share an individual size salad (our favorites are the Greek with Buddy's vinaigrette instead of the garlic parmesan dressing and the House salad, same vinaigrette), and a 4 piece signature square pizza on thin crust. (The thin crust ones actually get sliced into 6 pieces as an FYI, but it's the same area/size as the regular 4 piece.) You really can't go wrong with any of their pizzas; I feel like we've probably tried them all over the years. We like the thin crust as well because it's still kind of like a doughy Detroit style version of thin crust, but we don't feel too weighed down afterwards. Of course, we add a side of ranch (for literally any pizza). If we're really hungry we'll also get the chicken tenders. The interior is a decently nice sit down restaurant, with bar seating available as well. I don't know of many pizza places that are nice to dine in at other than Buddy's. It can get busy during dinner hours but we typically go early enough to never wait.

Yelp
I was so excited to try some Detroit style pizza. This place was recommended to me and I'm so glad I stopped! They are a chain but a local chain, that makes it better right? You can get a 4 or 8 square pizza. I stuck with the basic pepperoni and it was amazing! I love how the cheese and sauce goes all the way to the edge. I also tried the buddy bread and again, amazing! Huge parking lot and friendly staff, I will go again!

Larry S.

Yelp
For years, Buddy's Pizza was the undisputed king of Detroit-style pizza, setting the standard for the thick, crispy, cheesy pies that defined the genre. But in recent years, things have taken a sharp turn for the worse. The pizza just isn't what it used to be--lacking flavor, quality, and the rich textures that once made it iconic. And has anyone else noticed how thin the crust is now? It feels like they're cutting corners everywhere. What used to be a signature deep-dish with layers of taste now feels more like a glorified thin crust, just cut into squares. Honestly, Buddy's has changed the DNA of their pizza so much that it no longer feels like Detroit-style at all. If anything, it's become average at best. At this point, I'd argue that places like Jet's and others are carrying the torch of real Detroit-style pizza. Buddy's? Not so much anymore. Sad, but true--Detroit's former #1 has lost its way.

Yelp
One of my kids favorite places for pizza and Mac n Cheese! And I can agree! Service has always been great and food comes out quick! Great for small or large groups with a variety of pizzas that are out of this world! I love the variations! If you're a pizza lover it shall be on your list of places to visit.
google avatar

Katelyn S.

Yelp
The pizza is always high quality and out relatively quickly. They offer a happy hour during the week and have a great selection of drinks and beer. The prices are a little high, but not unreasonable.
google avatar

Alex F.

Yelp
Excellent Detroit style pizza. Servers are well trained and friendly. Excellent beer prices! We ordered the 6 mile, Sealion, and the Greek pizza.

Jenny O.

Yelp
We were excited to try Buddys as we had read and heard a lot about it. We had driven hours to get here. When we arrived it was almost as if they were annoyed we arrived. We had an extremely cold greeting. They were very short and almost curt as they took us to our table. Once they gave us the menus they left us for about 15 minutes unattended. We began to wonder if they were closed between lunch and dinner. When our waitress finally came back she snipply took our order. We didn't see her again until after our food arrived another 20+ minutes later. The food was good, but highly disappointed in the service or lack of it. We didn't get a drink refill until we were finished with our meal. As we went to the bathroom we saw another employee just sitting on their phone while supposedly folding napkins over the silverware. I don't usually write reviews but it was a major turn off for people to be rude especially when you are working in the service industry. Maybe they were just having a bad day but it doesn't excuse the poor service.

Yelp
I visited Buddy's Pizza on Monday, 5/15/23, during lunchtime. I was able to try the Detroit-Style pizzas, Meat Deluxe and Margherita. I loved the buttery crust on the pizzas. The flavor on both pizzas was on point. The minestrone soup was delicious as well. Buddy's Pizza is a great place to get your pizza fix!
google avatar

Yelp
The first time having the original Detroit style pizza and it was delicious! Greek salad (3/5 people) was perfect for me and the wife because we absolutely love salad and this one was fresh, crispy, and tasty! Got the 4 slice of Henry Ford pizza and did not disappoint! Crust was light, and airy but crispy bottom, light sauce and good toppings! We got there late but they served us like we were first or regular customers! Just incredible service with friendly atmosphere! Very open inside so people aren't bumping you as they leave, nice! Clean bathroom, clean table, friendly service and good food! Can't complain about anything, thanks buddy's!

Yelp
Spent the week in Ann Arbor, Michigan for work and my colleagues were insistent that I try Buddy's. I wasn't disappointed at all, Paige our waitress was amazing and attentive. The food was incredible. We had the buddy's bread & mozzarella sticks as our appetizers. I myself had the Detroit 4 square pizza and a couple of the guys had the Buddy Robby burger. All in all, everything was great. Good food, amazing drinks, wonderful staff. Was worth the hype.
google avatar

Lisa D.

Yelp
Never had a Detroit pizza before? I hadn't either but I knew I couldn't be in Detroit and never try it. So, my hubby and I made sure we visited Buddy's. We got recommended Buddy's from some locals and I have to say that Buddy's was amazing! We built our own Detroit pizza and it was made fresh to order. I really liked how it tasted. I would have to say that it was really well made, not overly doughy and had a good crisp. If you are a local and never tried Buddy's it's time to go! If you are visiting out of town and never had Detroit pizza, you gotta visit Buddy's! Definitely a decision that you won't regret. Tips: *Credit card accepted *Indoor seating only. *Restroom available *TV is on. *You can order online to save time. *Curbside pick up available.

Yelp
Got directed to the downtown Detroit location by a local during the IndyCar race this summer and loved it, so when we found ourselves hungry in Ann Arbor a couple of weeks ago, we stopped in. The modern big shopping complex location does a pretty decent job of capturing the feel of the original Detroit spot. Service and food were both up to the same high standards too. We tried the thinner crusted pie this time and it was just as good as the Detroit style with a bit lighter crust. Both are really good. Service was great and our server arranged to get the Astros game up on one of the numerous TV's for us. On the loud n' lively side, but not unpleasantly so. There were quite a few larger groups and families there enjoying themselves. Comprehensive beer list including plenty of local options to try. Definitely on our favorites list!

Yelp
Visiting Detroit and what a way to start off the trip with some Detroit Pizza! I don't know how much in depth I need to describe the pizza but each bite was the perfect bite. And the wings and fries were great as well. Major shoutout to the staff to handle our party of 8 at the last hour with great attitude!

Yelp
Ok.. I'm from Illinois and traveled up to Ann Arbor to see my beloved WOLVERINES KEEP THE JUG WHERE IT BELONGS! Of course, me and the 3 'sons' I had with me were starving after the game! Found Buddy's VERY CLOSE to the stadium. Thought for sure that immediately after a game we would never get in! WRONG!!!!! A MERE 30 MINUTE WAIT! Awesome! Won't find that in Chicago! LOL Atmosphere was great, not too tight and of course..DRAPED IN MAIZE AND BLUE! Server was super nice. Now...I'm from Chicago..like the heart of Southside pizza Chicago. I have a particular set of taste buds and skills that have only served Chicago pizza. Ordered the Detrioter and the Spicy Italian...AND WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED! The cheese was different from Chicago pizza but good! Sauce was a bit on the light side but, again I'm from Chicago! LOL The toppings though...FIRE!!! I LOVE THE PEPPERS! And wait.. the crust...people...THE CRUST SHUT MY MOUTH!! Perfect crunch but not so 'crunchy' that you couldn't get that bite ya know?! Next trip up we already agreed...WE'RE COMING BACK TO BUDDY'S!!!!

Yelp
This is my wife's families favorite pizza. They used to drive about 45min to get it. They opened one near my mother-in-law's home a couple years ago. We had to grab some while visiting to partake in old family tradition. PIZZA STYLE - This is Detroit style pizza. Think square pizza with a thick, buttery/greasy crust. Their tomato basil pizza sauce is super yummy! QUALITY INGREDIENTS - sets these pies apart from crowd. For example, they have multiple types of pepperoni, and they are delicious. I am not normally a pepperoni fan. Delicious black olives are also a treat. SICILIAN PIZZA - Family go-to favorite. Wisconsin brick cheese, pepperoni, green peppers, black olives, salami, diced tomatoes, tomato basil sauce and Buddy's Sicilian spice blend. It's like a pizza version of an Italian sub. GLUTEN FREE PIZZA - if you can't eat gluten, like my daughter, they have you covered. It's a thinner crust, but super cheesy. Gluten free pizzas are limited to the 4 slice size. GREEK SALAD - family normally orders a Greek salad, as we did on this occasion. The quality ingredients make this a fantastic salad. Kalamata olives are delicious, fresh lettuce and their Greek dressing.

Yelp
Stopped in for a bite while in town for a Trader Joe's trip. You know you're going to get a good Detroit style pizza when you get Buddy's. Crispy edges with that chewy dough. Staff was really friendly and attentive and the location looked really cool. The breadsticks could use some more seasonings on it. Besides that everything was great.
google avatar

Jeffrey R.

Yelp
Actually embarrassed to say I'm trying this for the first time. Easily one of the top 5 pizzas I've ever eaten. Ordered an antipasto salad(easily enough for two) to share, and a 4X4 pepperoni. The pepperonis are under the cheese and the sauce is cooked on top of the most light and buttery pan pizza crust. The ratio of ingredients to crust is spot on perfection. Not too thick like the Chicago Deep Dish. Detroit has the delicious bite without all the filler. I WILL be back; I forgot to take pictures it was so good
google avatar

Kara D.

Yelp
Got two different pizzas which were great. Crust was fantastic. Sat at the bar and Avery was super attentive and fun!
google avatar

Casey S.

Yelp
Unreal!! This pizza is amazing. Bartender great!! And the ambiance, who cares the pizza is the greatest!!!
google avatar

Wayne M.

Yelp
Disappointed! Close to Detroit of course thought we were in for a treat and the pizza was anything but that. We had a build your own to make it like a combo and it came up short. We have a local place in the Seattle area that is so much better with flavorful Detroit style pizza than what we had at Buddys. Very bland sauce and not a great dough flavor
google avatar

Glenn C.

Yelp
Good pizza. Never had detroit style pizza before. Pricing is definitely on the high end. Get coupons on their website. 8 piece pizza doesn't serve 4 as they claim.
google avatar

Joy C.

Yelp
Love it! Everything was good. Food, service and location. First time trying Detroit style pizza and it is good. Crispy and tasty, especially It's not as heavy as regular pizza. The veggies sampler appetizer is good too, fresh and delicious! We also have the Antipasto Salad with house dressing. They were busy but we didn't wait long for tables nor our food. Highly recommended! Will come again!
google avatar

Ted T.

Yelp
Very tasty pizza and beer on tap. I tried the 4piece Hawaiian pizza and was very happy with the flavor and texture. The crust was nicely crisp except at the very center. Lots of beers on tap. The only bad part was that the cellphone reception in the building was really bad.

Yelp
We waited an entire hour for a table. We watched them send many people away when they stopped taking names and customers at 6:20, supposedly because some of the wait staff called in sick. They don't close until 10 p.m. A new hostess appeared at 6:30 after getting called into work on her day off. It became her job to tell the customers coming in the door that they couldn't seat anyone else that night. After a while, the people who came in right before us were seated, and then the manager came out from the kitchen and announced that they were out of food. I kid you not!!! They had salad and some type of bread, but no pizza or regular food. The manager practically ran to the back after her proclamation of, "We're out of food," and left the hostess to deal with the unhappy customers who had been waiting from 40-60 minutes. To her credit, the hostess tried. She was super sweet and in a bad position. Do you know what we received for our hour wait? First of all, we left very hungry. Secondly, each of us got a whopping $5 voucher that has to be used within 30 days and you can only use one voucher per TABLE per visit. So we literally waited an hour, left without eating, and only have a $5 coupon for a future visit. Their online coupons save you more than that. There is NO way they did not know they were going to run out of food before then and they knew there was an entryway full of people waiting to be seated. I am appalled. Inexcusable. I have nothing nice to say, so I'll end here. That's the nicest thing I can think to do. :)

Yelp
When I first arrived, I thought to myself that I would go to a restaurant to venture out after work but not once did I do that. I was the last person to leave the office Tuesday night and felt that I didn't have a choice to dine-in because I still needed to catch up on work at the hotel. I placed my order online (seamless experience) and drove about 12-13 minutes to my destination. I ordered the oven-baked meatballs and Spicy Italian. I ordered the 4-square and almost ordered another pizza to try but since I wasn't going to the gym, I held some self-control. The pickup was also seamless; staff were friendly but seemed disconnected. I didn't know (my fault, too) so I did not ask for napkins and utensils. I ate the meatballs w/ the generous garlic bread that came w/ it. The meatballs were tender. I enjoyed it but had to drink a lot of water afterwards... The pizza was good but nothing like Slice of Homage from San Jose. I know, what would I know about Detroit-style pizza but maybe I selected the wrong pizza to order? Either ways, I had a great meal at my desk in my hotel room. I remember logging off shortly before midnight and cleaned up everything. The drive back was scary; lightning was happening. That day I experienced sunshine, wind, rain, and thunderstorms. You can experience all seasons in one day here in Michigan, Oh, I loved the fact that masks weren't mandatory!

Yelp
Severely disappointed in the way my pizza was overcooked. It was hard and barely able to be eatten.

Professor B.

Yelp
I've been a fan of buddy's for many years. But the last couple of times we got buddy's pizza for takeout, it was a major disappointment. My pizza (the Detroiter) desperately needed more cheese (the Wisconsin brick cheese they brag about) and it had barely enough pepperoni. My son's pizza was a disappointment too. I don't have proof but I'm beginning to think they don't maintain the same quality for takeout orders. Next time I will make the long drive back and demand a refund, although I will probably not go back any time soon. Cottage Inn takeout is better than the pizzas we picked up from buddy's.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious pizza and salad. Love the variety of food on their menu. The pizza hit it out of the park. I ordered the bbq chicken pizza and it was amazing. The flavors blended together perfectly and nothing overpowered each other. The crust was delicious as well. The chicken tender salad was amazing. Good amount of vegetables and the tenders were so good. Can't wait to return!

Yelp
We were in town for a few days and wanted to try Detroit style pizza. While o cannot say that Detroit style pizza is my favorite style of pizza, this was quite good. All of us enjoyed the pizza. The service and atmosphere was always nice.

Yelp
This location is still serving great food with friendly service. It has been over 3 years since I'd been to this location but it's still operating like a new business, even with covid restrictions. The general manager was at the door when we arrived and she gave us a friendly greeting and sat us right away. Our server was quick to come to our table and he was attentive the whole time. We ordered Buddy's bread and an 8 slice pizza. When we ordered our bread our server said "ranch and pizza sauce". How did he know? Probably because those two are so common. I thought that was pretty witty of him. Our bread was served to us quickly and it was warm and tasty. Soon after our pizza was served and it had awesome presentation. It was hot and very flavorful. Hubby especially enjoyed it which was good since we were celebrating his birthday! We aren't close to this location but we will probably return at some point. Hats off to the staff for great service at time when many restaurants aren't able to provide it.

Yelp
Heard about this local legend for original Detroit-style pizza and had to try it. Looks a little like a chain restaurant but they've been around since 1946 so they must've learned a thing or two, right? Still, it has a fun style and a friendly vibe. More than a few options on the menu but we went for the classic minestrone soup to start and traditional Detroit Public TV squares pizza with the pepperoni under the cheese and old-world pepperoni on top. Two words: TRY IT. This place is the real deal. Amazing crust with the deep buttery olive oil flavor, crispy on the edges but still soft to the bite. Really, you could enjoy the crust with nothing on it. Flavorful sauce and just the right amount. And the pepperoni, mild and full of flavor - and again, just the right amount of it. Service was a bit slow, but to be fair it was busy, and our server did take good care. I've had pizza all across this country of ours and this place is a treat!

Yelp
Ordered this via delivery. Overall, not a bad slice of pizza. This is the second time I'd ever had Detroit style pizza, and I like the crispy edgier and flavor blend. The Detroiter is similar to a standard pepperoni pizza, but with the added Sicilian spice blend. It was pretty good. The Bbq Conant had a nice blend of sweet and savory. I might order this again, but the price is a little high for the volume of pizza.

Yelp
First time trying Detroit Style Pizza and not bad at all! I feel like pizza chains sometimes have a bad reputation but I was actually surprised by Buddy's. It's nice that they have both a takeout ordering station and a restaurant. - Belle Isle - Definitely the lighter version out of the two that I ordered. I did really like the crust though which is really crispy but also light at the same time. Maybe wouldn't recommend if you want something a little bit heavier in flavor. - Conant - My favorite out of the two. I really love barbeque pizza in general and this sauce was so good, slightly sweet and not too oily and the chicken goes really well with it. Overall, I'm very impressed by Buddy's and the pizza itself looks very pretty. To be honest, can't really taste the difference between Detroit pizza and regular pizza, so would stress more on the flavor profile rather than texture.

Yelp
My first dip into the world of Detroit Style pizza. My wife and I couldn't agree on toppings, so we each got our own four square pizza. The pizzas are rectangular with a crisp, oily pan-fried crust. The toppings and especially cheese are really packed in there. The sauce is more of an afterthought, with a few tablespoons plopped on top of the copious toppings. I had the Henry Ford. As an aside, before moving to SE Michigan, I had no idea that this car guy would have his name on absolutely everything in a few hundred mile radius of Detroit: parks, streets, hospitals, hamburgers. If you can imagine it, they can name it after Ford. Back to my pizza, which was topped with bacon, ground beef, onions, and blue cheese. It was heart and savory, and they definitely did not skimp on the meat. It was a bit greasy, but even more so, it was very very salty. I think I would likely order something else next time just because of the sodium overload. My wife's pizza was a bit more balanced, with spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, and three different kinds of cheese. For a sense of scale, I ate three of my squares and my wife ate two of hers, and we were both full. We both enjoyed our pizzas overall, and was spent less than $30 after tax and tip with an extra meal left over between the two of us. Buddy's pizzas are substantial, fairly prices, and highly customizable. The fact that you can choose your pizza to be four or eight squares makes it a good option if everyone in your party wants to try something different, or if you are getting food just for yourself. If you want to dive into the world of Detroit-style pizza, this is a great place to start, and I'm sure we will be back.
