I haven't indulged in Buddy's Pizza since back in my school days growing up in this area of the state. This is the franchise's newest location, and I wonder how they chose it. Perhaps proximity to the nearby ice arena and the activities there may have had something to do with the decision. Anyways, the parking lot was very large, but it was close to full when I met up with a long time friend for dinner.
The inside was like a new sports bar and grill compared to an old style pizzeria like the OG locale in Detroit. I placed my name in the queue at the hostess stand and within five minutes, a cleaned table had opened up. While I was waiting for my friend to arrive, I looked at the menu. I never realized that Buddy's had expanded to beyond Detroit-style square pizza. There were burgers, pasta, salads, and sandwiches available too.
Since we came explicitly for the pizza, the two of us ordered a couple of the 4-piece varieties... Detroiter and Meat Deluxe. The first was made up of cheese, pepperoni on top, tomato basil sauce, shaved parmesan cheese and Buddy's Sicilian spice blend. The second consisted of cheese, pepperoni, Italian sausage, ham, bacon, and seasoned ground beef.
The food came out after 20 minutes on separate platters. The toppings were okay, but the crust was absolutely crunchy and delicious as I had remembered it. Pricewise, inflation sure had caught up to modern times as a square cost about $3 to $4 apiece. Overall, I gave my dining experience four stars as I have gained a better appreciation of how Buddy's has expanded since their origin in 1946.
