Morning Call Reopens for Beignets and Coffee in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Set to reopen alongside Morning Call under the same roof, Bud’s Broiler is described as a lost local brand that will return when it opens next door; the report notes Bud’s Broiler expects to open in the next month." - Clair Lorell

Google
Great burgers! My go-to is the #4 with sauce. I no longer live in the area; these burgers are something I actually start to crave in the times between visits to NOLA. This particular Bud's is dated and dingy... in other words, absolutely perfect. I wouldn't have it any other way. Don't confuse dingy with dirty, it's clean, just old. And just right. You will wait a few minutes for your order, as they put the patties on the grill when you order. Not as quick as fast food, but much fresher and way better. I love that the cheese is actual cheese and not American slices. The place had several customers when I was there, but I managed to get a photo of the dining room without capturing bystanders.

Google
No frills burger place that always delivers. I get some chili cheese fries if you want to do it big.

Connie C.

Google
Bud's is an institution. Wonderful burgers and other food but clearly the #2 is the star for me. Great barbecue sauce on it! Fries and onion rings are always well prepared. They have a good variety of drinks including Barq's red soda. Staff here was friendly and efficient. Burgers were served up hot and tasty. First visit to this particular Bud's but definitely not my last.

Paul C.

Google
Amazing location one-off location. They have a great hickory sauce which oetmeates the air. The food look snagging and is cooked to order. I'm going for their fully fixed up burger with grilled onions, friends, onion rings and a coke all for $15. Which I though was amazing. Their prices are great and the service is contagious To start I had the fries although a bit soft they were delicious adding the cheese and chili sets them off and they are great. The onion rings are absolutely perfect. Crunch and soft! Ranch dressing is great.. bought but tastes like home. The burger. #6 plain or as it comes. Even though has Everton and it tastes fresh needs some kind of sauce. Add the chili and again set it off. Should have gotten the Hickory sauce which they seem to be famous for. Any way you look at it. The burgers are fresh the staff is delightful and the over all exceptions was A+

Henk de S.

Google
Wow! Very delicious burger. Freshly char grilled to perfection. Nothing you would find at a restaurant chain. Watch the closing times though, since some nights they close early. Highly recommend with the hickory sauce.

Kristin C.

Google
Consistently great service and consistently great food! Shout out to Ms. Bernetta, the absolute sweetheart that served me tonight! Yall make sure you stop in for a burger and onion rings!

Jordee Y.

Google
Haven't had Bud's in years, but it was definitely a treat today! I got the regular cheddar burger with mayo/mustard, minus the onions. It still has the same good taste that I remember. I'll have to visit more often!

Ashley G.

Google
Best staff! Had amazing customer service from everyone here! Very nice and food came out fast and hot. The staff made our experience great!! Staff is great! Food was delicious, bun toasted to perfection. Everything was fresh and so good

Eleanor L.

Yelp
The best place to grab a burger and fries. The food is ready quickly and the service is great. It's clean and the atmosphere is very friendly.

Yelp
Bud's is what it is. No other burgers taste like them and the hot dogs are yummy! I did get a piece of fish rather than the apple pie that I ordered, but it was lunch rush and this isn't fine dining. It's Bud's. Get some if you see one!

Perla S.

Yelp
This establishment's owners/employees are racist. Will not be giving them my business.

Rae L.

Yelp
Great, juicie grilled chicken. Been around for years. I gotta say that I have eaten here for over 50 years.

Yelp
My wife introduced me to Bud's and I am impressed. The burgers are cooked over charcoal, which gives them a nice char and taste that is even better than the flame-broiled burgers elsewhere. Instead of being perfectly round and uniform, the patties are a little irregular like somebody actually patted out the burger patty. The charcoal makes the hot dogs and the chicken over-the-top as well. The buns are soft and fresh. The lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions toppings are fresh and crunchy. (Look at the slab of tomato in my photo!) The fries are only OK, skinny and unseasoned. You can eat a pile of them and still be hungry so order a Large. The ambiance is very casual - you order/pay at the counter and they call your number when your food is ready. It can get crowded and loud at peak times, but I always manage to find a seat. The food comes out fairly quickly. It's not a place with mega-burgers and a zillion weird toppings so If that's what you want then look elsewhere. If you want a simple burger and fries (comfort food!) Bud's is hard to beat. They give you a discount if you pay with cash rather than plastic, so bring some cash money and save a little bit.

Yelp
Driving across country and made a pit stop at buds broiler. I order their cheese burger and chili cheese fries and didn't disappoint. The ladies were very kind and prices super reasonable! Must try

Aaron D.

Yelp
Their service is horrible, this restaurant is very rude and racist. I wouldn't recommend to anyone, I was looking to order food from here and was disgusted by the person who answered the phone.

Yelp
Well all I could do is take a picture of the menu and bag this time. I was hungry and in a hurry. I got the #2 minus the onions. Also got fries and a drink.  This burger was everything. It was fresh and succulent and didn't last five minutes. I devoured it and loved every minute. They do burgers the right way. It was good to have a real burger, unlike the typical ones you get from the burger chains. The fries were pretty good also. I was greeted kindly when I walked through the door. Great meal and great service. I'll be back.

Yelp
I've been to many Bud's Broiler locations over the years although many of the ones I used to visit no longer exist. Somehow this was my first visit to this one. This spot I have known about for a long time though as it did stay open late for many years but these days, like so many other spots, it no longer stays open late. You get your usual Bud's Broiler experience here with all the expected menu items. I did notice an item here that somehow, over all the years, I had never noticed before in the form of the Big Bud Burger. I was rather intrigued by this larger better sounding Big Bud Burger so of course I had to try it! After my experience with the Big Bud Burger I doubt I will ever get any of the other Bud's burgers again as the Big Bud was such a massive improvement over anything else I've ever had at Bud's Broiler. In fact I think I'm going to be a dedicated Big Bud Burger eater from this point forward! Overall Bud's Broiler seems to have been declining over the years and recently the decline seems to have been getting faster and deeper but I was glad to find the Big Bud Burger which has made a stand against that decline effect with a very nice and large burger.

Yelp
lunchtime today, 1:30 ish waiting in line behind a man waiting to place an order. chaos at the counter, one lady was mopping the floor right at the cashier side, she had clear plastic gloves on, i watched her use the mop, pick up wet damp papertowels that were on the floor, and then proceed to grab a ground meat pattie and put it on the grill. and the other lady said to me " what are you peeping at? " I said " she just was mopping and picking up dirty wet papertowels on the floor and with the same hands grab a ground meat pattie to put on the grill" They both looked at me like I was crazy. I turned around and left. I will NEVER eat at this location ever again. I did not want to leave a STAR at all, review would not let me skip this. BUT this store does not rate even a 1 star.

Yelp
Been a long time since I went to Bud's. Got the #4 double with sauce and onions. Easy chocolate shake and fries. Once again, a place I used to frequent quite a bit when we lived in NOLA, but isn't something that always comes to mind when coming to town. Sunday night, we felt like a quick meal - let's go to Bud's! The staff was wicked sweet. This is what we miss when you go to places not in New Orleans. Now I have to say my local BBQ place in Bama is pretty sweet, but they see me all the time. The Bud's staff treated us like friends when we walked in. My burger was fantastic. That sauce, the onions.. give it to me! Sent pics to my son and he was bummed, yet again, that his family couldn't make this trip. I did my job :)

Emile B.

Yelp
As one of the few Bud's left in the area, we try to eat here as often as we can (2-3 times per month). The service is always prompt, the food is fresh and the service is always friendly. I love this place.
google avatar

Blake W.

Yelp
If you love Bud's you will deal with even a poorly run location. However, this is a well run one. Always fast and fresh. Mine is a #4 w/hickory smoke and no onions. If you are a local, you know the burger. If you are from out of town, you really should try it. Their burger meat is nothing special. But how they cook it mixed with the fresh shredded cheese and sauce make this one of my favorite burgers in the country. I grew up eating at Bud's and now when I visit this location has become my preference due to consistency.

Yelp
#4 with hickory sauce and onions! I could eat these all day. Nice and clean on the inside. Updated menu 7.21.21

Yelp
Delicious hamburgers &grilled chicken. Very nice people behind the counter. A great place for fairly fast takeout or good area for dine in. We enjoyed it & plan to come again!

Frank G.

Yelp
service was horrible. I waited ten minutes just to get ignored and someone who came 8 minutes after me reciev service before me. then I waited twenty minutes after my order was supposed to be ready. horrible service. next time I will go with Ben's burger. I was waiting on an order of cheese fries and they decided to help out three other people and serve them french fries who came in 15 minutes after me. I'm doing mobile orders and it's hard to make money when your food isn't getting ready till 20 minutes after it's supposed to be ready. Shape up y'all are better than us.
google avatar

Megan D.

Yelp
Yikes! This was probably the worst burger I've ever had! I gave 2/5 stars because the service was great! I ordered the #4 with chili. My boyfriend ordered the #4 also fully dressed. The patty was thin and both burgers barely had chili on them. The fries were fresh but lacked any seasoning. I would never recommend this place. To anyone.
google avatar

Terri Z.

Yelp
Been coming here my whole life and it never gets old. They have the best chargrilled burgers and chili cheese fries. I always have to stop when I'm near by.
google avatar

Keith C.

Yelp
I mean, it's Bud's. Always consistent, alway cheap, (almost) always a fun altercation to relay to friends. This Jefferson Highway location is tucked away and usually not very busy. #4 Meat with sauce and fries was as good as ever.
google avatar

Tad D.

Yelp
I had a really pleasant lunch here. The Smokey sauce burger is amazing and the fries are darn good too. Get the sauce on everything. There's not much more to it. Nice people.

Matt H.

Yelp
As a regular customer at Bud's Broiler I was shocked at the customer service my family and I received. The restaurant closed at 8 and we walked in at 7. The cashier (a woman who's name I don't know) would not even look up to greet us or say hello. We asked if y'all are closing soon and she rudely said "we close as 8" as if we didn't know and she was sarcastic. Bud's Broiler is an amazing restaurant and I will always love the burgers, unfortunately not at this location. ((4101 Jefferson Hwy New Orleans, LA 70121 United States) Maybe a better cashier could make this restaurant more inviting.

Yelp
Post-Saints loss and we were so hungry! We often hit this area because it's convenient to City Park & a streetcar stop (CityPark/Cemeteries). FYI, don't tell on yourself by saying trolley... it's a streetcar in New Orleans - just ask Stanley, Stella, Blanche, and Tennessee. So we pop in and the sweet, tangy smell hits you right away along with the smell of the burgers on the grill. There are several different options, but I like classic so I went with the #6 Dressed Cheddar burger. Side of fries. Side of their famous bbq sauce. Talk about satisfying! It was cooked well, but not dry and the shredded cheese adds depth as opposed to sliced cheese that slides off hot sandwiches. If you're craving a burger, this place has you covered. Four stars due to tables and main area needing to be bussed more regularly. Customers toss their own trash, but should be able to find a table that has been cleaned and is salt & spill-free.

Ashley L.

Yelp
This place is a New Orleans classic. Got myself my usual: #4 with hickory sauce and chili cheese fries! Always hits the spot!! So yummy!
google avatar

Gazelle L.

Yelp
My coworkers and I went here. It was my first time. I had the smoke sausage with large fries. I poured a little salt on my fries. It was really good. I also had the burger later on. The food is reasonably priced. I think I would've enjoyed the burger better if it was sliced cheese. The shredded cheese threw me off. I am going to try the brisket sandwich and give an update later.

Yelp
Classic flavors from a no frills burger joint. The decor is outdated but somehow still feels appropriate for what it is.
google avatar

Marshall C.

Yelp
Love this location. Staff is always super friendly. They're requiring masks and being very safe during COVID.

Yelp
It's in a strip mall off of Jefferson. I have been here three times; once with friends the day after Isaac visited NOLA, once alone 4 days after the hurricane, and once for take away. Reasons to go: 1) Good food. The value of the quality is amazing. This pro alone is worth overcoming the top two negatives below. 2) Unique chili dogs; sliced franks in half on flame-toasted buns... 3) Wi-Fi. Haven't used it but they offer it. At least that's what the posterboard with sharpie sign displays on the counter. 4) Efficiency & versatility behind the counter. The people behind the counter can do multiple jobs well. I was impressed. 5) This place might be a high 2 star or a low 3 except that they were open and functioning well post-hurricane when everyone else was closed. Outstanding! Reasons to avoid: 1) Ca$h only! ATM is on sight. This sucks because I never carry cash...ever. So it's an extra $2.50 (im guessing at the ATM fee here) to pull out $20 and pay for a $9 dollar meal. This is the definition of 'hassle' 2) Small town feel. From the 80's wood paneling that echoes single-wides of yesteryear to the attitude of the staff ringing "Didja bring that rain with ya?", this place exudes small town. This is a big negative for me. Small town hates outsiders but tolerate you when you have a descent attitude and pay without asking stupid questions about the menu items, or when they plan on accepting credit cards or if they have a gold member's club that allows free fricken refills. 3) No stinking drink refills. If you want to piss this guy off, have him pay $2 for a stinking fountain drink and not allow refills. Ugh. *Neutral note: The first time I visited the tables weren't wiped down and set up the second and third times they were. The place seemed orderly and halfway clean 2/3 of the time.
google avatar

Kurt L.

Yelp
We had the chicken with cheese and a hamburger with cheese. Both were really good and the people at the counter are super nice. Tip: place it in the glass pitcher on the counter for faster service. That's about the biggest tip of all.
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
They raised the prices but didn't change their menu sign!!!!!!! A fish on bun used to cost around $4, now it's over $7! If I were the one who went in and ordered it, I would've cancelled my order, but my husband is more understanding than me. You don't charge people more than the prices on your physical menu, and then say" oh sorry, our prices went up"! Our days of getting buds broiler are over. The main appeal is that it was cheap.

Bryce C.

Yelp
They made us buy something to use the bathroom and their fries were not salty and I saw a roach in the bathroom

Jane R.

Yelp
The per son that look up the pre-made food was great. The guy that packaged it in the bag was careless. Fries were upside down in the bag weather practically unwrapped and he did not give me the sauces I paid for properly. It's like he could care less
google avatar

Joshua H.

Yelp
Are you people kidding me? Buds Broilers food is a joke. If you're looking for a half-assed burger come here. If you're looking for paying too much for small portions come here. If you're looking for hickory sauce that really isn't ALL THAT, come here. If you like eating shitty tasting fries (never tasted shit, but I'd imagine that it taste something like their fries) come here. I regret spending my money here. I don't know what the hype is about this franchise.
google avatar

Jason K.

Yelp
Ok I'll admit it. This isn't the Bud's Broiler on City Park Avenue which, in my humble opinion, is THE best Bud's Broiler in the city. However, this Bud's Broiler on Jefferson Hwy is the closest one to my house so it's better than no Bud's at all. (God forbid.) #4 Grated cheddar cheese, hickory smoked sauce and add extra onions. #9 Charbroiled hot dog with hickory smoked sauce and add extra cheddar cheese Order of Fries Large Root Beer I mean, honestly, I can probably recite the friggin menu in my sleep. Has it really changed at all since I was a kid? Hopefully not. Anyhoo, this Bud's Broiler gets the job done when I need my Bud's fix. The place is pretty clean, the line is never too long and plenty of parking. Like I said, it's no City Park Bud's, but it's still Bud's nevertheless.

Yelp
I was waiting in line for my order and a guy comes up and says he's picking up an Uber order. The lady says she is having problems with the tablet and that she is tired of the mess. She then goes off on the guy (Poor guy is trying to hustle during this craziness). The lady then starts saying this is her last day, she's quitting and can sit at home making $600/week (not sure how, but ok. I just want my food). The uber guy even had the customer on speaker trying to tell the lady their order and the lady kept b*tching about quitting and making $600/week. At this point I doubt my food is being made. Took a lot longer than 15 minutes for a burger and fries. I didn't need to hear about someone being lazy and making $600/week. So now I know what kind of people are working here and wouldn't recommend it unless you're totally bored and have no life and wanna hear complaining about work and waiting FOREVER for your food. Oh BTW, the burger was decent, would have been better if attention would have been paid to what I asked NOT to put on it, mayo.
google avatar

Lacie D.

Yelp
Good food fast. That's Bud's Broiler. I've bee eating here since I was a kid. Every location has a different quality standard it seems. There's a guy that works at this one that seems to keep quality high. The meat is cooked on a real charcoal grill. I love the hot dogs and the burgers. The hot dogs are sliced and then grilled, served on a round bun. The chili is good and just hot enough to melt the fresh grated (I think) cheese. The burger patties are thin and full of charcoal-grilled flavor. The house sauce is the perfect pairing to the burgers, but they put a lot on so beware. The fries by themselves suck, but cover them in chili and cheese and they are yumstuffs. The place is dated and divery with video poker machines and a few video games. It is also clean and cozy.
google avatar

Danon H.

Yelp
I don't see why this place is highly rated. I really didn't like it. I checked it out one day because it is close to where I live. The customer service wasn't very good. The clerk seemed rather anti-social and not very talkative. I had to tell him 2 times what I wanted to eat before he heard me. I ordered the burger which had hickory sauce and onions. Without the hickory sauce the burger would have lacked any flavor what so ever. I think that is why they doused it in sauce. The texture of the patties also threw me off. The fries were nothing special either. All the food here is frozen and NOT fresh. This place had some entertainment value They had some video poker machines and a few arcade games. However the jukebox only had southern mullet music on it. I am not really that big of a fan of The Doobie brothers, Molly Hatchet, or Ram Jam. In short there are way better burger joints in town!

Ali R.

Yelp
This is the worst spot ever the bun was soggy the meat did not even taste like real meat customer service was horrible. Also parents I do not recommend to bring your kids here.
google avatar

Ned W.

Yelp
I came here during Hurricane Isaac and was starving since nothing else was open. This could possibly be why I thought this place was so incredible. "Probably one of the best burgers I have ate in awhile. The prices are incredibly cheap and the food tastes fantastic. My only complaint is that the fries make me feel like a fatty, they are so small that I end up ordering two orders."

Brian N.

Yelp
It is sad that it's going downhill. 2nd time in a month the food is cold. Never was the beast burger in town. But I have been coming here most of my life. 47 years. It just breaks my heart.
google avatar

Nola N.

Yelp
I just sat here and watched someone the employees called Chocolate walk out with free food. The employees treat customers like crap unless your name is Chocolate.Employees were more interested in sitting down, playing on their phone and playing the video poker machines.Note to upper management check your cameras i bet this Bud's is being ripped off big time
google avatar

Barbara W.

Yelp
Very happy with my meal. The man cooking the fries took pride in them. I told him they were excellent. Lady who took my order was helpful.

Quinn P.

Yelp
Love "dat" hickory sauce. Fried pie not too bad for dessert. Love that they kept the decor but don't really miss the wooden tables with the names etched into them. That must be a cleaning nightmare. I should try more but can't get past the #5 with sauce. Add a pound of salt to the fries and they would be just like mcdonalds.
google avatar

Dennis G.

Yelp
I don't know who made the decision to redecorate Bud's Broiler with weird tropical island themed stuff but it's annoying. The food is the same, the wood benches the same, there's just now paper streamers and fake parrots and other "tropical" items. It's like Bud's is trying to be a tiki bar. It's a little off putting and confusing considering the tradition of Bud's Broiler.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
Simple, no frills added, Charcoal broiled hamburgers. You want cheese added, then shredded cheese gets added to your burger while it's still on the grill. The best part is the true charcoal flavor. You can't get that at McDonalds or Burger King.
google avatar

Pashley C.

Yelp
I make no appologies for LOVING their cheeseburger and chili cheese fries.

Jeremy T.

Yelp
Great place for an afternoon burger. Service is always good, food is cooked to order and always enjoyable. Only thing holding them back from 5 stars is the atmosphere itself, very bland interior, and bathrooms are iffy on cleanliness, but the food is still amazing.
