"Sorry to our mothers who always told us french fries weren’t a whole meal, but the fries at this food stall in Halidom Eatery come loaded with so many toppings they are, in fact, an entree. We like the Columbiano best—creamy refried beans, huge hunks of chicharron, a whole chorizo link, pico, and a massive helping of guacamole all sitting on top of standard thin-cut fries. So when you want to mix things up, Buena Papa makes interesting, enjoyable meals for frites fanatics who won’t be put off by the inevitable soggy fries situation when they overload them with toppings." - Juli Horsford

Google
Overall Rating: 8.4/10 A standout spot in Morgan Street Food Hall, delivering on both a unique vibe and excellent fries. Creation Fries: 8.4/10 Some of the best loaded fries in the area. The fries are crisped to perfection. The sauces are flavorful and blend seamlessly with the toppings, creating a loaded fry dish that's both satisfying and delicious.

I went soon after opening (11a) to beat the long lines. Because it's cooked to order the wait can be very long. The smoked salmon here is either undercooked or the location at SouthPoint Mall in Durham is overcooked. I actually thought the salmon was raw at the Morgan Street Foodhall location & I asked them if it was going to be cooked any further but they said no. They pulled it to show me and it looked raw. The taste was still pretty good but the texture is what was a challenge for me. The employees had a positive attitude & was friendly.

Visiting Raleigh and stopped into Morgan street food hall. With all the options I decided on Buena Papa and it was SO good. I got “el Mexicano”, super fresh and flavorful. Would definitely have again!

I never been to the food hall before and I saw the loaded fries section. It looked good so I ordered. During my order the lady couldn’t hear me and I figured something was going to be wrong with my order. So as I get my order I asked for sauce on the side. As I received my order it was covered with sauces and I didn’t receive my guac so I had to turn back and get it added. While waiting I noticed they had a 93% Sanitation rate. How?? At a fry place. So, as I began to eat the fries, the salmon had no taste and seemed low quality. I began to push it to the side and finish my fries. Within 12 hours, I began having moderate stomach pains which lead to diarrhea. Idk what they put in the sauces or where they get the fish from but I will not be back.

Google
Good portion size of fries but the toppings are only on top. Should “spread” out the toppings like a flat tray of nachos. It was tasty and I’m glad we got them but I would not wait in line for them again. Service at this location was not good. Giving them 3 out of 5 because they just opened. Would have given 2 out of 5 if not. The food hall was slammed, my girlfriend was able to order at two different locations before I ordered here. More detail. To be fair, this location just opened up recently at the Morgan street Food Hall and they need to do some process improvement. Stood in line for quite some time, watched three customers get out of line in front of me. The employees seemed overwhelmed and flustered, they didn’t know the menu, they didn’t know how to handle the customers, and didn’t know what menu items were out or not. Should have a different system to show order items instead of one hand device to share. Should put up menu items for employees to quickly reference. After I stood in line for over 30 minutes they finally took my order: two bottles of water and a regular americano. I asked her if she had bottled water and she said I think so and charged me. After waiting 5 minutes for my fries (which is fair) she said we don’t actually have water. She should have checked since the cooler was four feet away from her. She offered a smoothie and I turned it down. At this point I was very frustrated and just wanted to eat my food. After about five minutes, one of the employees found me at the food hall and gave me two smoothies, they were really sweet. Again, I would not get these in the future if there is a wait.

Google
Food and customer service was great! Tried the new papas y mar and it was delicious!

Google
I saw this place on Shark Tank and knew that when we traveled to NC from NJ, we had to go! I got signature fries with BBQ pulled pork and the Latin pork and I really enjoyed my food. I could definitely taste the garlic mojo and it reminded me of the great lechón places in PR, and the BBQ pulled pork was delicious and very flavorful. Fries had a great seasoning, too! My only gripe is that I couldn't finish the fries because of the layer of oil at the bottom. It actually gave me a stomach ache. But until I got to the bottom, I loved them.

Google
Best fries in Raleigh. A whole meal, bring two forks or the servings are enough to bring some home!!

Yelp
THESE FRIES WERE SMASHING! Fried to perfection and their sauces were phenomenal. The texture of their food is so rich! Excellent and fast service! Can't wait to see if they open a stand alone restaurant! Morgan Food Hall has plenty of seating but I know they would have an amazing spot with lux ambiance.

Yelp
Suprising experience. Forget sugary based sweets and come get yourself a healthier alternative, a natural sweet potato. Buena Papa Fry Bar has this scrumptious sweet potato dessert that is well worth the try. BP Sweet Potato Fries - Tossed in Cinnamon Sugar Goodness - Drizzled with House Made Pumpkin Spiced Marshmallow Fluff - w/ a Side of Pumpkin Whip Dip. For our event, they drizzled chocolate and caramel sauce over the potato as well and top it with warm walnuts. We didn't have fries but yet an entire sweet potato. If you're new, Morgan St Food Hall does not have dedicated parking. There is plenty of street parking as well as Pay to Park lots. Don't hesitate to check it out as you may end up making the Food Hall a great date night location

Yelp
Good service but I wasn't thrilled about their dishes. You get mostly fries and small portions of proteins that lacked flavor. I think the price is a little too high for what you get. Quality needs to be improved to justify the price.

Jovan B.

Yelp
These fries are packed with stuff and are good, I got the large Colombiano and it was more than enough, I could of got the regular and been full. I also got the blackberry drink that was good. I would go here again, I also wanted to try the Boriqua .

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Buena Papa Fry Bar is located inside of Morgan Street Food Hall. This is perfect so you can order more than loaded fries. My husband and I split an order of the El Americano fries and a passion fruit juice. The fries were topped with cheese, bacon, sour cream and chives. The fries were good but the juice was just okay. If you are checking this spot out I do recommend splitting an order.

Paul R.

Yelp
The boricua was good. Maybe a little bit too seasoned for my taste but still very good. Service was good and the ambiance was a food court.

Surelyne L.

Yelp
One of the most popular stalls at the Morgan St Food Hall, Buena Papa is definitely not for those on a diet! We ordered the el Colombiano to share...& it was plenty for 3 people!! The mountain of delicious fries were piled high with chicharron (crispy fried pork belly), chorizo, refried beans, guacamole, pico and a deliciously garlicky sauce. We opted for the red sauce (ketchup mayo mix) on the side. It was so good but even 3 people couldn't finish this!! Service was quick even though this was made to order. The only challenge is seating and the noise level but that is to be expected in a food hall.

Paola N.

Yelp
This place used to be so good, but now their food quality feels cheap. I ordered the Greek fries and it supposed to come with grilled chicken. I can definitely tell their chicken is from a cheap frozen bag they buy a Costco. Very disappointing.

Rachel H.

Yelp
Located in Morgan Food Hall, this tucked away food stall is exactly what you need after having a few gin drinks at aunty Betty's gin and absinthe bar (located a few steps away). On fry-days (Fridays.. #soclever), they have buy 2 get 1 so we selected the americano, the columbiano, and the Carolina (bbq). I mean.. you can never have too many fries. We didn't have to wait in a line, service was quick and left us on our merry way. Fries are FRESH and ingredients were more than I was expecting. Everything tasted fresh and had great flavorings, more than I expected from a fry bar. The columbiano specifically had yummy pork belly... mmmm. Location is nice that you can go and try other food stalls, and maybe get some dessert .. if you aren't stuffed after eating here! I enjoyed sitting outside while enjoying our fries! I recommend getting 1 to share with a friend, and enjoy! grab some forks..!!

Yelp
Saw it on Shark Tank rerun. Visiting Raleigh. Had to try it. The food was great and service was exceptional. I had a long chat with one of the owners. She is a genuine sweetheart.

Yelp
A great addition to the Morgan Food Hall. This place needed a dedicated french fries booth. The lines can be long but go quickly. The concept is pretty simple, french fries dressed with different toppings. The regular for $12 can easily feed 2-3 people if you're looking for a snack. I was unable to finish my "Carolina" fries but did almost get to the bottom. It's good and a fun option to get if you're also planning on drinking a few beers. I also got the fresh juice. It was just okay, nothing special in my opinion. Looks great though! Overall, great customer service!

Jillian S.

Yelp
Craving a lot of fries? Buena Papa is the place to go. They certainly don't skimp on the fries or toppings. We ordered the Greek and the Carolina with sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly and topped with adequate protein and sauce. Even the regular size entrees were packed with fries and toppings. I chose the Carolina so the fries were topped with pulled pork, coleslaw, and BBQ sauce. - Wait time is long, but comparable to other restaurants in Morgan Street Food Hall. - Reasonably priced. Regular size is $12.50. - Large portions. I chose the regular size. Yes I did eat it all in one sitting, but it can easily be two meals. - Friendly employees who are wearing masks and gloves We left satisfied and full. We would recommend this establishment to others!

Yelp
This fry bar is located inside of the Morgan street food hall. I was excited when my coworker told me about this place so I decided to come check it out. We came on a Friday evening it took a little time to find parking downtown. There was a little wait to place my order but it wasn't too long. After ordering I got my food right away as the fries and toppings were already prepared. I ordered the regular size el americano French fries. The fries come topped with cheddar cheese sauce, bacon, sour cream and chives. The bacon was advertised as thick cut but it was more like crumbles. The fries were served warm and overall the dish was good. I got full after eating about half of the box fries. However once I got to the middle there were only fries left and no more toppings. I agree with another review that for the price you pay for French fries and a small amount of toppings it was not really worth it. If I got it again I would def share with someone.

Cindy N.

Yelp
Stopped by this spot inside the food hall around lunch hour in hopes of getting fresh hot fries. The carne asada was seasoned well and wasn't dried. The Americano fries tasted like a loaded bake potato. I still enjoyed both, but wish the fries were cooked in a better way were it wasn't soggy and if the toppings were layered within the fries rather than thrown on top. I would recommend to share a serving because it becomes overwhelming to eat alone.

Yelp
It was delish!! Ive been wanting to go for a while, and finally decided to take my cousins who were visiting from Chile to eat. We are big french fry, people and chile, and we found this place amazing. The portions are huge. We got two different orders, and was barely even able to finish between all three of us. Definitely recommend will be going back with my family. Wish they had a chorrilla!! Maybe next time!!

Tatiana A.

Yelp
while in Raleigh, I had to make a pit stop for some yummy fries with some crazy good toppings. So hard to choose from the options, they all sounded delicious! Located inside of Morgan Food Hall, a plethora of foods awaits you. My advice: Come hungry, leave happy * ( located inside of Morgan Food Hall) I ordered The Columbian which fries layered in Columbian refried beans, Chorizo (sausage), chicharron (fried pork belly), guacamole, buena sauce (garlicky cilantro sauce) and you can't forget about Mayoketchup sauce which is a Latin favorite a mixture of Mayo and ketchup. So good! We had to share between 3 people and we were all so satisfied! Recommending for any fry lovers out there! |Tips|: VERY filling!

Yelp
Came here a couple of weeks ago when I went to Raleigh with some friend and out of every restaurant featured in Morgan Street Hall and I was very dissatisfied. At first, I was intrigued by the portion sizes and how colorful the meals looked, but this is the perfect example of quantity over quality. Meat was over seasoned and the fries were soggy and greasy. I thought there would be so many flavors, but it ended up tasting a little bland. The employees also were not very friendly and most of them did not communicate with me and my friends when we walked up. Don't get me wrong, I love the rest of Morgan Street Hall this is just one of the places I would not recommend going to- definitely doesn't fit the vibe of the rest of the facility and falls short in service.

Jean S.

Yelp
Food was delicious, there was only one person working there, and the front of the restaurant was cool

Jose M.

Yelp
Mexicano order From my experience you are paying more for just the presentation of the food , unless you are in a rush majority of the fries will be soggy by the time you get to the bottom , overall the food was good i loved the blend of everything . This is not a bad review just my honest opinion. I would definitely recommend you to try it

Ines P.

Yelp
They have an allergy menu thsy shows what is gluten free. We grabbed drinks and these fries to share between 3 of us. It was yummy!! I recommend!

Kierstyn M.

Yelp
What an awesome concept! Loaded fries are one of my favorite foods and they did NOT disappoint! They had such a wide variety of classic flavors for you to choose from. The Americano, the Mexicano, and so many more! And if you're not feeling any of their classics, you can customize your own fry basket! The load these fries up. No joke. They stack the toppings on there, you will not be left wanting! Did I mention their fresh made juices? Perfection. The passion fruit juice was killer! I'll definitely be coming back here!

Sarah S.

Yelp
Great fry bar, I feel like everything is getting so expensive now! I thought the fries were good! The meat was nicely seasoned and the fries were seasoned too. You can add whatever toppings you want on the fries and you don't have to get the specials. Would try another combo, but dang are they a lot $14 for fries. Goodness. But you do get a lot of them, with heavy toppings. It was worth a special treat for myself.

Alexis M.

Yelp
I'll keep this simple. The greek fries are amazing, large quantity, fresh ingredients and perfectly seasoned (not crazy salty) can get messy!!

Andrew M.

Yelp
If you're looking for comfort food while in town? Go no further and go to Buena Papa fry bar. I had the pleasure of trying their "El healthy". The combination of salmon, sweet potatoes, and cheese is a match made in foodies paradise. I had mine with the addition of chives, Parmesan, and buena sauce. I would definitely recommend coming to Morgan street food hall - Buena Papa for a weekend getaway around town.

Kimberly B.

Yelp
Yup it was good it was HUGE like 4 people can eat noooo joke 20$ of fries . Came here from an hour way to try this

Asia B.

Yelp
We visited the one in at the PNC arena they were so good. The food and service were great. The ambiance was really fast-paced.

Tee C.

Yelp
This place is a hit!!! I saw it on an IG page @theRaleighFoodTrap and decided to come here for my mommy and me lunch with my daughter. We had the El Americano with just bacon & cheese. I met the owner and he was so hospitable and nice! They have a digital menu so I tried to post it but it was a little difficult. They do have a QR code you can scan when you get closer to the counter. The line was wrapped around the corner. It was worth the wait though

Roman D.

Yelp
Ive lived in Raleigh for 2 years now and for awhile this used to be a fun treat for me and my girlfriend to get every few months and for awhile I had no complaints, food was good and service was as well. Sometimes the wait was long in line but it as understandable due to the volume of people in the food hall. Are most recent visit was a nightmare though. I spent over 42 dollars in 2 fries and 2 drinks and the service was terrible. The 2 people working the front appeared to be either high or just really out of it and moved like there were robots in slow motion. When we entered the line there was only one couple in front of us and it took us almost 45 min just to get out our food from start to finish. If I would have known how long the food was going to take on top of the service workers not really caring I would have spent my money somewhere else where my business is respected. The food was still good though and could not complain on that end of things but it was extremely frustrating spending that kind of money to receive such poor service. I watched over 5 groups of people get in line and then walk out because they were taking so long. I'm only making this review because I genuinely like this place and I hope things might change in the future but if this keeps up for longer they lost my business.

Brett S.

Yelp
Food was excellent and i will definantly be back . Man it was best thing I've had in a while . So glad to have this location here in Raleigh .

Chrishonda J.

Yelp
I recently tried Buena Papa Fry Bar and I'm in LOVE! Buena Papa Fry Bar offers Colombian-inspired, Latin-infused flavors made-to-order, hand cut gourmet fries with premium toppings. The fries and toppings were amazing. The flavors of each topping blended together perfectly. Side note: The serving sizes are huge. I ordered the regular and I took home leftovers.

Kaitlin P.

Yelp
I am addicted to this place! I went twice in one weekend because I couldn't get enough of the fries. So far I've had three different types of their loaded fries and they were all amazing! My favorite is the North Carolina one with barbecue, slaw and vinegar. The fries remind me of boardwalk fries-- salty and natural cut. And the variety of toppings makes the choices endless! Also, try their fruit slushy as well. It tastes like fresh fruit and goes so well with the fries.

Michaela W.

Yelp
Concept sounds really good! Could go over well outside of NC. But I highly recommend they develop vegan versions especially if they plan to bring a franchise to California. The stars off are for no vegan versions. Important for health and animal cruelty reasons. Please work on this!

Zuhey Z.

Yelp
El Colombiano had so much flavor and a very big serving, two people can easily eat with 1. The location is great as well, this was my first time at Morgan's Food Hall.

Julie B.

Yelp
A full meal, ideal for sharing! My daughter saw a video on this place and we visited when we were in the area for spring break. The service was efficient, the line moved quickly, and it was made to order right in front of us. The fries were perfectly cooked - they were fresh cut style fries. We tried the Americano and Italiano. Perfection! The toppings seemed to be too much but with the amount of fries, it was actually just right.

Kyleigh P.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for a while and it didn't disappoint. I shared a regular size El Boriqua with my boyfriend and it was plenty for both of us. The large size is MASSIVE. You definitely get your money's worth. I was surprised that the fries weren't soggy given all the toppings.

Yanni H.

Yelp
Huge portion size, great for sharing, tried the El Mexicana. I really wanted to love and enjoy this, but it was insanely over seasoned. Like I couldn't continue with the salt content. Drank plenty of water and still couldn't shake it off. I think because it's a simple recipe, they don't take the steps to measure for the heavy hand. Both the meat and fries were over seasoned. I can't recommend it, especially not at $13 dollars a box.

Amber F.

Yelp
On first bite it was okay. But the flavor gets old really fast. They give you lots fries for around $15 bucks. It came out super hot and fast. Maybe getting a different choice other than the Carolina the coleslaw was too soupy. I would for sure try a different menu item.

Bobbie L.

Yelp
While walking around the food court, this place was the first one we looked at and said "Definitely!" We we're not disappointed! The fries are freshly cut and fried. We got the Carolina with vinegar, pulled pork and slaw. Each component was tasty, and they were great together!

Kate W.

Yelp
I had been wanting to try this place since I first saw it was coming and it was well worth the trip! I got a regular sized La Boriqua it had a delicious pulled pork, guacamole, pico de Gallo, drizzled with a delicious sauce! The regular size was plenty for myself if shearing you may want to get the large! The toppings were plentiful, the fries were perfectly cooked and not over season! The price was slightly more than I was thinking but it was fairly consistent with other prices throughout the food hall and let's be real it was worth it!

Jbw 7.

Yelp
I heard about this place on the news and I decided to go and try it. I love fries and the way they make fries here is really good, they have different types of toppings. I had the Colombian one and was really good and tasty . Something I would say is that I think (and this is my personal opinion) the price is a little higher for fries and toppings, because of this i am given them 3 stars. I will definitely come back and try something else.

Justin M.

Yelp
Got the #1. It was ok. The pork could have been better. Needed salt. I prob wouldn't eat here again since it's not good enough to risk the heart attack.

Inaya K.

Yelp
Had the number 6 with guac! It was amazing my family took half of them tho so get a big portion!

Josh L.

Yelp
Went here last weekend and purchased 2 different loaded fries options. Not only is it a little pricey but the food is disgusting. Literally tasted like they dumped an entire salt shaker in the food. My 16 year old son that can and will eat anything that is out in front of him, could not even eat this food. That tells you something! We threw away $30 worth of this food after eating just a few bites. Then had to order more food somewhere else. What a waist.

Becca L.

Yelp
We decided to try the Carolina and the American, both were delicious! The regular sizes still had a large portion that two could share for one meal! Definitely would go back!
