What's the best way of celebrating a promotion and new job? Why brunch of course!
My lovely girlfriend decided to take us here for along awaited meal and I knew I was in for a treat when I took a quick tour of the spread. It's split into three parts: the appetizer section, the main section and the dessert section. The appetizers come with various types of deli meats, crab legs, prawns, oysters, salmon, cheeses, breads and salad - no complaints here! The mains are made up of Japanese eggs either served as an omelette with various toppings or hard/soft boiled and a prime rib. The omelette was incredibly buttery and rich and cooked to perfection. On the other hand the prime rib was a little disappointing. It was not bad, but it was not as good as I had expected. Buenos Aires Polo Club gets a lot of hype and praise so we had expected high end steak house standards - but unfortunately, the Argentine Black Angus prime rib was a little tough to chew in some parts and inconsistently cooked. Sorry fans, but I'm afraid I'd much rather go to places like Lawry's for their juicy prime rib.
Now for the main event: the dessert section - this was brilliant. There were six different cakes, all beautifully presented and looking each as delectable as the other. I'll be completely honest, after the dulce de leche sponge cake, the chocolate cake and the napoleon millefeuille (which was also layered with cream and dulce de leche), I kind of blacked out and don't really remember the rest of the cakes! After I woke up from my sweet dream/beautiful nightmare of cake, I had the hazy memory of flaky puff pastries sandwiched in between sticky strands of caramel. Just when I thought it was all over, along came one of the waiters who quietly rolled a cart behind me. He placed a thick piece of bread into a heated pan, poured in some mystery fluids like a magical alchemist and with a blast of fire, a sprinkle of fruit, syrup and almonds, he served me a plate of beautifully glistening slice of French toast. It had a crispy edge with a moist center that melted in my mouth. After knocking out briefly from my visit to sweet heaven, it was time to finally roll down the Lan Kwai Fong hill at 3pm in broad day light, into a taxi and home - what an ending to a meal!
