BuffaLouie's at The Gables

Really enjoyed a family lunch in BuffaLouie’s. Fast and delicious; ambience is great and friendly. The waiters were great also.

At the suggestion of my son who attends IU we came here to eat as a family for lunch. Being that it was family weekend the place was pretty packed. However we were able to order our food and find seating pretty quickly. It's a nice campus sports eatery. The food was good and plentiful. However, please be prepared to pay a good penny because it's very pricey! Hence the 4 stars. Nonetheless, we enjoyed ourselves!

This place is always a 10/10! It's usually packed when we are here. It's located super close to the Sample Gates, and super close walking distance to a lot of great shopping. I always get the "sweet q" sauce, which is unlike any other sauce l've had. It's like a sticky, gooey, molasses bbq sauce that's good with everything. The tots are always great, and I love that a regular size drink comes in a take home cup. We have a small collection of them in our cabinet at home now. Great IU atmosphere, and always a solid choice.

Best wings in Bloomington and my favorite place to eat in town. All their sauces/rubs for the wings are great. The burgers are delicious as well. Haven’t tried any of the other sandwiches or salads but everything I’ve tried here has been amazing! Every one of the staff is very friendly too.

If you love traditional wings, come here on Monday! They have specials on the traditional wings $0.99/wing; really good deal! Unfortunately I did not know about it; so I paid the usual of 10 wings for $14.99. You can choice one sauce per 5-wing group; I went with honey garlic and Buffalos. The wings are very crispy; you can hear the crunches sounds in each bite (guess they double-fried to achieve this?). The wings/drums are smaller in sizes than other usual US restaurants; maybe they did not use the industry generic modified giant chicken.? Be aware of it and more food, so that you are not disappointment. The service is great; they asked if I need water when I did not even mention it. The staff are friendly and the restaurant has lots of IU sport decoration. Good place to get the full IU experience while one's in town.

Mrs. HB and I grabbed a bite at BuffaLouie's. Wow, what a great place! They were super busy, but the staff did a great job and were having a lot of fun. (See picture) The food was great. And you have to love the atmosphere!

You go here for the atmosphere and memories...not for the wings. I had the Loui 14 and they were EXTREMELY overcooked resulting in very little meat on the bones. It made it very hard to eat them. The tots were not anything special.

Lunch for 2 adults and a child was $89.00. None of the food or service was worth it. We weren’t provided a final bill, just our waiter with a card reader to pay what he told us. I have never paid a bill like that before. Not crowded at all but we had to ask several times for eating utensils and drink refills. I would not recommend unless you want to over spend for below standard food and service. UPDATE I emailed Ed a week ago, as he requested in his reply to my review. No return email. I will keep updating my review.

A Bloomington staple! This restaurant bleeds Bloomington and IU in the their decor making it a perfect place to bring visitors and students alike. Came in right before a football game, so I obviously knew they would be busy. We waited about 15 minutes after we ordered for our food to come out, not too bad considering how busy they were. (You do order at the counter here) I'm a boneless wing girl, I know come at me. But they are delicious here. I got the sweet BBQ sauce and honey garlic. Both are a very sticky sauce, but good. The tots are great as well! Will be back when I'm back home in Bloomington!

Do yourself a favor and go. Great food, great service, great environment! If you're looking to catch a game, this is a great way to do it while eating some delicious food. They have TVs everywhere,They have great music playing. Just an overall great place!

Wings were good! I always get the hot. Self serve drinks but it's nice not having to wait for a refill.

We decided to give this place a try over the weekend. It was busy and lively. Their menu was not overly complicated. We ordered boneless chicken wings with the Korean q sauce and it was ok. I think it would have been better with just regular buffalo sauce; the Korean q sauce was a bit sweet which I'm not necessarily a fan of. I can see why this place would be popular among young college types as it's very casual with reasonably priced food.

I had never been to the place. The service is very kind and engaging. Wings were cooked great. I didn't love the TNT sauce flavor and the heat level isn't really that explosive but they were good. I also had a salad that was large with lots of cheese and tasty croutons. The nostalgic items in the dining area makes it a cool vibe. I will try some different sauces on my next visit.

During my time in Bloomington, I kept hearing rave reviews about Buffa Lou's, and it was consistently recommended as a must-try spot. On my final night in Bloomington, I decided to see what all the hype was about, and I wasn't disappointed. It was a Thursday evening when I visited with my sister, and the place was buzzing with energy. Buffa Lou's had a typical bar atmosphere, but what stood out was the abundance of memorabilia decorating the walls and the variety of T-shirts and hats available for purchase. The two levels of seating created a spacious yet lively environment, heightened by the fact that it was trivia night - a fitting scene for a college town. The menu was extensive, offering a plethora of options, and if you were in the mood for dessert, they even had ice cream. My sister and I decided to dive into the wings, opting for 20 with a mix of three flavors (although I can't recall which ones) and adding curly fries to the order. The wings were good ordering 20 might have been a bit much; the sauce was so flavorful that it stood out on its own. The fries were a solid complement to the meal. Surprisingly, I didn't find the need for the ranch or blue cheese - the wings were delicious as is. If you're in the area and have a taste for amazing wings, Buffa Lou's is a definite recommendation. Plus, if you enjoy trivia, it's an added bonus to make your visit even more enjoyable. Oh the servers were very friendly !!!

Love the atmosphere! Food still maintains the original owners greats with added versatility and consistency! Still good after all these years!

The Hoosiers football team finally makes a significant advancement in the college football season, so we came to BuffaLouie's watch the game and they shut down at 10 PM making people leave before the end of the game. That was a very disappointing action, especially on a Friday. I hope Curt Cignetti tells the team's fans to boycott the restaurant.

Checked out this staple spot today for lunch! It's directly across the street from IU Bryan Hall. There's some seating outside and then tons of seating inside. Air conditioning inside felt great and they have all kinds of IU memorabilia on the walls which was cool to check out. You order at the counter and then they'll bring the food to your table. Service was very friendly and quick, our wings came out super fast....burgers and fries took a little longer but still super fast. Prices are super reasonable. Great for groups! Def recommend!!

Walked past this restaurant after work, on my way to my car, and thought wings sounded good, so I stopped in. I never had their wings before, seemed like a good time to try them. I ordered 10 traditional buffalo wings, 5 medium, 5 mild, to test them out, and celery and blue cheese - traditional order, nothing fancy, just to get a sense of the place. Took them home, opened my order, and thought there must have been some mistake or mix-up. Small, hard, dry, no sauce. Aren't buffalo chicken wings supposed to be saucy? I called up, thinking there must be some mistake, told them I got a carry out order and what I found when I got home. It wasn't a mistake. I was told that's just how they are. I said isn't there supposed to be sauce? I was told they absorb the sauce f they sit. But they didn't have much flavor, so I don't think they absorbed a lot of sauce, and they were hard and dry. I was told I could come back and get some more sauce if I wanted. Did I want to drive back downtown for some sauce, reader? No. No, I did not. I wanted my wings to be saucy and juicy and of reasonable size, not hard and dry and small, and spending half an hour on a sauce run wasn't going to fix that. The whole thing was really confusing. How could this place possibly be famous for wings? How could Buffa and Lou possibly be in the name with a product worse than a frozen box of wings from the store or a side of wings from a pizza restaurant? I was incredulous. No, I was not going to "have a wonderful evening". I was just stunned, so I said I guess I will just post on Yelp. And here it is. I ate a few of the hard, dry wings, not much there, just threw the rest in the garbage. Celery and blue cheese was ok. That was how I spent 15 dollars, and got a couple of small boxes of disappointment. See for yourself - here's a picture. Both boxes were basically the same situation. This was it, this is their wings. It would be 0 stars except the celery was ok. The only way this place could possibly be a Bloomington tradition is for the artifacts on the wall and the historic location, not for wings.There have to be better options for wings in town. I'll try wingstop, I guess, now that we have one, but honestly any bar could do better. Super, super disappointing.

Buffa Louie's is a great wing spot. You can tell there's a lot of history in the place based on the memorabilia decorating the walls. The prices are GREAT for wings! Easy to get a bunch of things and share with a large group. We just had some boneless wings and curly fries - keeping it simple. The fries weren't really hot - but they tasted good! It's possible that's because we came at an odd time of afternoon. The wings are good! Big size for boneless, and lots of sauce. I'm sure their bone-in are even better! Overall highly recommend.

Used to be my favorite place in bloom. - Sweet BBQ Tradition Wings 7/10 * this is tough. The best bbq sauce but this chicken wing is definitely from a newborn bird. Smallest wing ever. - NEW Mega Mozzarella Sticks l8.7/10 * these were great with a massive cheese pull. Was very impressed. Yummy marinara sauce too.

I was very excited to try out the original Buffa Louie's before they open their Carmel location. I had heard a lot of really great things about their food. I decided to go with the classic bone-in buffalo wings as a litmus test. The wings were pretty decent, but sort of small. Other members of my group went different routes like spicy BBQ wings or boneless wings and thoroughly enjoyed their choices. I did enjoy the look and feel of the restaurant and the ordering process was simple at the counter. I will definitely be giving them another change when they come to Carmel, but will be trying something different next time.

Visited Buffa Louie's when I went to Bloomington for the first time. I heard good things and I love boneless wings so I was excited. My first impression was it was pretty small. There were lots of TVs and games on so the vibe was more stay a while and watch the games. However, I do not feel like they had the room for this. You order at the counter then they call your name when the food is ready. I feel like this went well but I do like a traditional restaurant better than this. Still took a while to get the food, which was fine because there were a lot of people there. I did not really love the fried pickles. The first couple were good but then you could tell they had an off taste. I think it was the oil. Wings were delicious but nothing super special. I would go back here again when I'm craving wings. I would probably try their mozzarella sticks or tater tots next.

This was our daughter's choice for a quick bite we loved the building and decor . Great sauce choices and drinks! All around we enjoyed everything and can't wait to come back next time in town

Fun! Good beer choices. Stick with the Buffalo wings. Lots of tv's although I don't have a clue who is running the channel choices. Lots of levels and seating areas so conflicting fans have their own area. Super cool decor. I will go back and enjoy some more Buffalo wings. Good service at the bar and the food came out fast.

Another great stop at buffalouies! I took some students here who had not been before and they enjoyed it, I had tasty garlic parmesan wings!

Ok often a wing place rises, raves, falls or fails on the basis of its sauces. "Amazingly sweet and hot" "Must try the teriyaki bbq" "We survived the ghost pepper blend" Etc, etc Buffa's has great sauce for sure. But it's the wings, baby!! Their chickens are raised plump and perfectly proportioned. They're fed Indiana corn and, in the early fall, pawpaws, I think. Regardless, the chicken here is REALLY good. Like far by far the best chicken I've ever eaten in wing form. And, well-cooked so it's fully done and fully-moist. And you can taste it to be great chicken, even under all the sauciness. Salad, eh....go for the chicken. But definitely go!!!

this place has a fun atmosphere and a wide selection of different wing flavors. I ultimately prefer some of its competitors, but the location and the vibe are really tough to beat. A fun place to hang out.

Fire amazing FIRE . Are all things that describe Buffa Louie's, Decided to make a stop at the famous buffa louies on our trip to Indiana University. Loved the art work and all the famous pictures from all of the Indiana Alumni's. Service was great great knowledge about all their wings and the extensive list of sauces. I like how all the wings were made to order. I decided on the honey garlic wings 10 piece and they were great . Crispy and meaty tossed well and cooked to perfection. Will be a staple and must stop when my family visits Bloomington.

Buffa Louie's is a Bloomington classic, and for good reason! Stepping into the restaurant is like going back in time; vintage IU merch, Indiana sports memorabilia, and a plethora of pennants and banners hanging from the ceiling. This would be a perfect place to hang out with friends and enjoy a basketball game (another Indiana icon!) Every waiter/waitress I encountered was incredibly friendly and attentive. Example: I was taking off the lid to my drink, and before it was even fully off the cup, a waiter offered to throw the trash away for me Example 2: a waitress with a tray full of food held the door for me while balancing the orders. While Buffa Louie's is famous for their wings, the meatball sandwich, tater tots, and mozzarella sticks were also delicious. I know it sounds impossible considering Buffa Louie's is a traditional American bar, but the meatballs tasted like they came from a quality Italian restaurant! The tater tots were crispy and salty, and the mozzarella sticks were a great appetizer. If you're always on the lookout for deals (like I am!), Buffa Louie's has a rewards program and daily specials. I would definitely invest in the rewards program if I lived closer!

Had their traditional wings: Half Medium and Half Garlic Parmesan. Soooo good. Crispy and Meaty, and the Garlic Parmesan sauce was to die for. I've heard they are getting one here in Indy so I'm glad to have a close option. Get the wings and you will be happy!

Love this place! For starters the owner (who also owns Gables Bagels) is a riot! He has so much energy and true pride in the food he serves. He even gave me a coin for free wings on my birthday. Wings are great and sauce options are amazing! I love that I can essentially create my own sweet and hot sauce. I also love the atmosphere in there. Even when it's crowded, the energy there is just really good and feels like a pick me up for your soul.

I had been told by some friends to visit this place on several occasions so when my son played in a soccer tourney at Karst Park, it only made sense to go. We went on a Saturday afternoon, just before a big football game. The place was HOPPING. They do such a great job of filling such a small place with a ton of tables. There was IU memorabilia all over the walls, and unique places to sit, such as benches from a loft area overlooking the room. We waited in line quite a while and it took about 25 minutes to get our food. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and my friends ordered wings (which I had heard they were famous for!) and curly fries. We all agreed to share and I'm sure glad we did. Everything was so so good. Other than the wait, I would say this experience was great. Everyone was super cool, the atmosphere magnetic and exciting, the food delicious, and the options (gluten free bun!) were suitable for many diets. I will definitely return!

Stopped in Buffa Louie's before game night in Bloomington. There was a line but it moved through very quickly. We got a double order of traditional wings with Hot and Rasta Jerk sauce. I have to say, the sauces were fantastic. I often find that when you order spicier sauces, they lose flavor and just taste like heat. That is not the case with their sauce. It's not often you see a jerk sauce either! However, the wings were very very small. I wish there was more meat to them. One drummie was the size of my pinky, not exaggerating. I also think they forgot to season the fries? They had no salt at all. Lastly, a little bit of a weird bathroom situation in there. The restrooms were single occupancy, but had two toilets next to each other - not in stalls. Strange.

Clearly a community staple, I'm so glad my friend brought me when we were swinging through Bloomington. I love a good dry rub wing and was really pleased with the Montreal Steak option. I had also ordered a side salad and was incredibly surprised at the size. The salad could've been my whole meal! The food was delicious and they definitely passed the vibe check.

It was so awesome when we had this delivered to my workplace! They were so good and I haven't had it in so long I forgot what I was missing!

The best wings you will ever eat. The honey garlic are SOOO good!! They also have great salads and sandwiches and fries and it's a good place to watch games are their many tv's. BUT THE WINGS ARE SO GOOD!!

Came in with IU coach and Friends and was treated disrespectful by on duty manager. Service was bad. We have had issues with Service before, but this made us decide to not come back.

I made a trip out to Bloomington to try out a few restaurants here! The food strip is long and the variety of food is huge! The reason that this place caught my eye was because I heard about their burgers. I cannot resist buffalo chicken anything, First off, the tables were sticky. A gross sticky, and it seemed like the bar that we sat at was wiped, but not cleaned well. They were pretty packed inside, but it was definitely a little chilly to be sitting outside on the patio tables. it was crazy that even with social distanced tables, it still felt really crammed. The cleanliness was something that is very important to me. But, the food? That's another story: Go for the burgers! I got the Gale burger filled with avocado and the patties were delicious. Coated well, little on the salty side, but I think I was really craving a burger like that. Had the crispy tater tots as well, can't go wrong with those! The buffalo mac n cheese, I would not order again. I am not a fan of bleu cheese, so I think it was coated a little too strongly with bleu cheese for my liking. If you like bleu cheese, go for it! Not a bad side. The other item pictured is the Buffalo Crispy Chicken Sandwich, definitely satisfies any craving if you need a good buffalo chicken kick! If I were to go again, I probably would try the wings! Thanks for the meal!

Wings are absolutely awesome, some of the very best we've ever had. Salad was good also. But the wings yum yum. It's a busy place and a little noisy you order at the counter and they do a good job of getting the food out.

Fun, towny atmosphere with plenty of IU sports pride! Staff is friendly and attentive. Parking is a bit inconvenient but there is a lot behind them if you're willing to navigate through the back. The restaurant is decorated head to toe in local sports memorabilia and even a custom painting on the ceiling! The table space is very cramped. I'm talking not even two feet wide. I don't recommend the bottom level seating because upper level people will unknowingly have their feet in your dining space. Food is decent. You get a free cup with your beer!

Amazing place! Decked out in IU decor and pretty packed on a Saturday, I was pleasantly shocked by this place! I have sweet BBQ boneless wings and they were as tender as meatballs and COVERED in sauce. I can't wait to go back to Bloomington to have more!!

Went there visiting my daughter at IU. Order at counter and they call your name...service is good, busy place with good atmosphere and decor. Food is good, not great, that's where the ranking comes from. Burger looks appetizing but it was bland with no seasoning in the beef. Well cooked smash burger type patty, and I'd eat here again, but it wouldn't be my go to.

Supposed to be best wings in town. Maybe. I wasn't super impressed. Order at counter, there was one cashier and a line to the door. That was before the fall semester started so maybe it's easier to staff now that all the kids are back.

Some of the best wings I've ever had . The hot buffalo was delicious. The tots were delicious also. For a small place we didn't have to wait long at all on a Saturday night. Service was great also. They stop at the table several times to check on us.

What must I say? This is the OG wing location hands down! To boot, it is right in middle of Hoosier country on the IU campus! My all time favorite!

IU classic not be missed! Wings are fantastic, the Mac and cheese (both classic and Buffalo) are excellent and the ambiance perfect. If your lucky Ed is around. Delightful man and the consummate host. Good golly I like this place! Do yourself a favor and stop in....again and again!

They are popular for their wings. I've tried the wings, salad, and burgers and I actually liked the burger the best. I had the Sweet Lou and the bacon and onion ring in it were perfect. It is a messy burger though! I would also recommend adding some lettuce and tomato. For wings, we tried their sweet bbq and medium buffalo, which are supposed to be their most popular sauces. The sweet bbq was better and I would definitely not get the buffalo again. It was too tangy in my opinion. I had the crispy chicken salad with Asian Zing and enjoyed that for the most part although some of the greens were kind of wilted. Kids 4 wing meals include a side and a drink. The boneless wings are just 4 very small nugget bites. It is not enough for a small kid that does not eat very much so I would not recommend it. The tots were crispy and good. The curly fries were kind of soggy. This is one of those places where you place your order at the counter and they will bring the food out to you. They also will clean up the tables. The restaurant itself is very cute and there are lots of TVs throughout so that you can watch a game that is on. The service is fantastic. They have a rewards program that you can sign up for online.
