Beautiful hotel and restaurant. The best vegan burger ever and the vegan breakfast was lovely. Our room was lovely with modern bathroom. Very clean throughout and quirky. I’m the Amy Winehouse tribute who spoke with Darnie when checking out. We will be back. Xxx

Google
Friendly staff and a good selection of drinks (including interesting non-alcoholic options). Sadly the food was disappointing. My steak was overcooked, my sauce lagged behind, and my dish was missing something listed on the menu. It may have just been an off day. It’s a good location if you’re travelling on the A11 and need some hearty pub food.

The staff were lovely. Service was prompt and friendly. The room was quaint as it was in the oldest part of the property. The floor was very interesting and changed height as you navigated around the room due to the age of the building. The rooms are about to be refurbished but I hope they will keep the age of the property reflected in the rooms. The starter was great. Grilled prawns. The main dish was dressed crab which was ok but the salad lacked taste as the dressing had no vinegar in it and the potatoes chipotle were almost tasteless. Sticky toffee pudding was really nice. The wine was very good. Breakfast was very good too. Location is excellent with good parking and blackberries ripening at the moment.

Poor service. We were left waiting for ages for drinks and then they arrived still with bottle top on the beers and one missing. Another long wait to order, I chose but they didn’t have it. Would have been good to have been told first. Chose different dish, that too was not available! Eventually went for two small plates, which turned out to be missing bits; the superfood salad should have had charred sweetcorn and giant couscous. Instead it was normal sweetcorn and tiny couscous. The portion size for the “small plate” salad was very small indeed. Also the hummus that should have been served was absent. The veggie feta tasted nice enough but again there should have been capers in the dish and there weren’t. Painfully slow service for puddings, too, with one sticky toffee pud coming out burnt at the edges and the other inexplicably in two pieces. Pub grub with chips all good and well presented but salads etc lacked any finesse or attention to detail. I wish I had complained but we were with the daughters boyfriends parents and didn’t want to fuss!

We booked to have supper here on the way home to Norwich from a golf trip. Unfortunately, they had a problem with staff shortages in the kitchen, prompting the staff to call me in advance to say that they were only able to offer a limited menu as a result. When we arrived, the staff were friendly, welcoming and apologetic for the issue they had. In addition, because they were only able to offer 3 x fish and chips compared to the 4 ordered, an alternative was offered f o c. We enjoyed our food and left feeling that we had been extremely well looked after, despite the unexpected problem the venue had experienced. Well done!

This review is for the restaurant only. A group of us booked in for an early dinner, we ordered ahead of time to ensure a smooth night as we had early engagements the next morning. Once our party gathered we assured them everyone was present and we were informed there was a few people that needed to reorder their food as their menu changed. Upon looking over the menu we saw no changes, a little confused we said what we wanted was on menu, server was also confused until she discovered we were given the old menus. The server apologized and grabbed new ones, not a very big deal, just not ideal. This also happened with the dessert menus. But nevertheless we placed our orders which were mostly still the same except a few items that were removed. Received starters except one, asked for it despite everyone being done with theirs and they assured us it would come out, likely with mains but never received it. We waited for upwards of an hour before our food came out, even when we were told multiple times that it would be out soon. Despite all of these serving issues, when food came out it was hot and everyone seemed to enjoy their dishes, the gluten free fish and chips were amazing. We totally understood a new menu would have first night growing pains but it seemed the communication amongst staff wasn't the best that night. It was frustrating for us given we had preordered to avoid having a lengthy meal. Some individuals said lunchtime is never like this, while others said dinner was always like this, so I guess it's hit or miss. Might try again given the food was good, but won't bring kiddos as the wait alone was hard enough for the adults.

Google
This is for the restaurant. The main waitress no complaints about her she was lovely felt sorry for her! The food took over an hour to come and my friends Caesar salad was as dry as the desert. Wouldn’t recommend unfortunately

Google
Waited an hour for food, ordered the cesear salad and the lettuce was bitter and wilted and the chicken was dry as anything, the only edible part were the croutons. The waitress was lovely but clearly very new at her job, manager was a bit passive aggressive when he came over after he heard we had complained. Won’t be returning.

Yelp
Fabulous place! The charcuterie board was delicious; the hummus was so full of flavor. The patio in back is beautiful. The service was also great!

Yelp
Nice pub with food that actually has flavor. Best Sticky Toffee Pudding I have ever had. I really like the warm goat cheese salad. I have been there 3 times and will definitely be back. Decent beer selection and bar too.

Yelp
Charming place with wonderful customer service. Staying here whilst we visit our son who is stationed at nearby base. The food and drinks are great. Has a very sincere feel to the place, the employees seem genuinely nice. If we return would surely stay here again.

Yelp
I had the good fortune of spending nearly two weeks at The Bull Inn. The food was top notch - despite trying other restaurants and eateries, nothing beat the presentation or the taste of the fare offered here. The only thing better than the food was the staff. So incredibly accommodating and kind. Everyone was lovely and truly made me feel like a regular. The rooms are quirky and fun. The bed was huge and comfortable and you can't beat the funky vibe. It's just screams a good time. I really miss the dinner banter and the care they took to make sure I was comfortable - even offered to let me toss in some laundry with their regular loads since I was there for so long. (Didn't take them up o. It but wow!) I had a fantastic time even though I was there for work and CANNOT wait to visit again soon. I miss starting my day with a full English breakfast, and ending it with laughter and a beer.

Yelp
Had to find a place to stay while I was on work travel, they were the only place with availability that wasn't more than 10 minutes from work. I was coming from the U.S. so I had to quarantine on arrival, I appreciate the staff who was really friendly and helpful. Getting to my room it was pretty small with an antique feel to it but to my surprise the bathroom was the polar opposite being much more modern and up-to date looked brand new as well Since I had to be quarantined I needed to either order out or have the staff bring me food from the diner. I could either call reception or send them an E-mail, which they responded to right away. I ordered food twice and they would bring it to me much faster than I expected. I had the chef's soup and their Thai Curry with some hot chocolate. I only ended up staying here 2 days since work required me to move but overall I had a great experience at the Bull inn.

Yelp
From out of town, this place came recommend from the lodging manager. It was a great spot. Everyone at the table was happy with thier food. I had the most amazing pulled Pork burger. I truly didn't expect it to be as good as it was. The flavors on the burger mixed so well. The pork was so tender and flavorful, with a perfectly prepared slaw and side of bacon and cheese "dirty fries". Great place, great hospitality, must try!

Yelp
An absolute must visit. From the ambience to the quality of the food this place is fantastic. One of the best filets I've ever had. Friendly staff and a great side pub to boot. Don't miss this one.

Yelp
The Bull Inn is a wonderful.place to stay if you are in the Lakenheath/Bury St Edmonds area of East Anglia, UK. It is a renovated inn with rustic exterior, but nicely done inside. There is a great pud that serves elevated but typical English fare and also more sophisticated dishes. The steak was amazing, and so were their "greenes" (cabbage, peas and other green veggies lightly braised in butter). Everybody raves at their sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel sauce and toffee ice cream. Excallenr selection of local and imported beers and wines, and creative mix drinks. The owners are lovely people! Even though I had made my reservation (booking) to include breakfast, I was leaving pretty early everyday, so they offered to make me a delicious and enormous sandwich every day that I picked up before leaving each day. They de-feathered my room, gave me extra pillows... They really bent over backwards to make me feel comfortable! They only have 11 rooms (named, not numbered,.. Although I stayed in room "five") and they are whimsically decorated with different cow themes. I recommend the Bull Inn without hesitation!

Yelp
I recently stayed at the Bull Inn for two weeks with a small group on business and it was absolutely fabulous! They are under new management and the entire team was wonderful to us and treated us like family. The rooms are quirky and comfy. The hospitality was amazing. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. And the food was the best in the area! We tried numerous local restaurants but none of them compared to the food at Bull Inn, and we tried almost everything during our two weeks. The atmosphere was great, always busy, so I recommend a reservation! Can't wait to return, I miss it already!

Yelp
I've visited this establishment twice now and I cannot recommend this place enough. I came get with my family and the staff treated us amazingly. Love the decor/setup. They recently accommodated our big group and served us in a timely manner. The staff was amazing as well as the food! 10/10 recommend! Great food, great drinks.

Yelp
I did not stay that the inn but I did have dinner at the pub. The younger staff was very pleasant but an older waitress was SO, SO, SO, RUDE! It wasn't like my group and I went at a busy time or anything so it couldn't have been the stress of a BUSY PUB. Also, it was our first time there. So I don't know why she was so rude. This visit was definitely our last. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. eating here.

Yelp
First restaurant I ate at in England and they did not disappoint at all. When you first walk in the restaurant is a bit small, but the decor and how the layout is set up it just all works. The food took about 30-40 minuets to come out but it was so worth the wait. I had the "Pan Fried Salmon", it was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. Next time I go I want to try the "Fish and Chips".

Yelp
All you need to know about The Bull Inn 1) Order a steak 2) Get the sticky toffee pudding 3) Kinda pricey - but their food quality is the reason
google avatar

Amanda L.

Yelp
Had a classic fish and chips dinner, and it did not disappoint! Great atmosphere, decent prices, and friendly staff!

Yelp
Food is amazing. But beware it's quite on the pricey side of the house. The drinks are delicious and you get what you pay for. The food portions are large but very filling. The taste is good not over or under seasoned at all. The ambiance is cute, quite loud and yes kids are allowed in the restaurant but they aren't quite kid friendly.

Yelp
Great place for date night! The atmosphere and staff were wonderful. The drinks and the food were delicious, we will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Who would not want to sleep in a room named after a cow with cowhide prints over the bathtub? This hotel is just perfect - quirky, fun - and it has a restaurant on site. Here is their confirmation email: "The Bull Inn at Barton Mills is not a B&B, its not a hotel, but it is an award winning boutique and quirky modern day coaching Inn, located near Mildenhall, Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket in the picturesque county of Suffolk. The Inn simply radiates character, style and an eccentric passion, which is simply infectious to all those who visit. Think funky and fresh within an amazing 500 year old coaching inn. We have created 15 individually designed boutique bedrooms, AA Rosette dining rooms, cosy pub with great wines, real ales and an open log fire for those cold winter evenings. There is also a fantastic courtyard to while away many a summers day with family and friends. Improvement and refurbishment never ends at The Bull, we are driven by the passion to seek and trying new, exciting and sometimes crazy ideas! When it comes to eating you can go one of two ways, from amazing pub menu, served every day from 12noon to 9pm (9.30 on Friday & Saturday) to casual yet cosy modern dining in our AA rosette dining rooms. If you wish to enjoy an evening in our dining rooms please make a reservation to avoid disappointment. We do not take reservations in the pub and I am afraid we do not serve the pub menu in the dining room."

Yelp
amazing service, food and ambiance!! Super friendly staff. ordered the roast beef strip sandwich with horseradish sauce! so good! must try the sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce and a scoop of toffee ice cream! Had a raspberry milkshake (chambord and cream) shot... so delicious!

Wes A.

Yelp
Lovely atmosphere however this restaurant is not family friendly. They are clear in communicating that children are not welcome diners.

Yelp
The drinks I've had there has all been delicious, but the food doesn't meet my expectation. The steak I ordered was super chewy and rough to eat. I also get bad allergic reactions from the seats every time I go, but that's just because I'm allergic to materials that could easily hold dust.

Yelp
A group of us went to the restaurant on the recommendation of someone who once worked at Lakenheath. Take a left at the front door and head straight back - that is the room we were seated in - it has a funky black and white pattern. The place was rather funky and hip compared to the other restaurants we ate at during this trip. I had the grilled fish (sea bream) with two pints o' cider and the bill came to £32 - not exactly cheap and at the high end of the places we ate at as well. Overall, people enjoyed their meals - the place is funky and worth walking around; recommend that you hit this place up if you are in the area.

Yelp
Went there on a whim with a bunch of friends to eat. About 8 of us. They were busy and were still able to find a place for all of us to eat in on of their back rooms. They serve real food! I had the bacon Burger with Chips and Broadside. Quite expensive at about 28 lb(especially the way the dollar vs lb rate). But worth every pence. They have a real menu that changes from week to week. The staff served exceptionally, they even dealt with our wanting to split the check.

Yelp
I quite enjoy going to this pub located in Barton Mills. The staff always seems to be friendly and are great to talk to. The Bull is divided into three different areas. The pub, restaurant, and hotel. The pub is comfortable but a bit small. They have a well stocked bar and service is professional and fast. (Thanks Emily, you rock!) Of course you can always have your meals served here too. The restaurant is quite large with various seating rooms that are great for private parties and meetings. The menu is varied with a lot of choices. You will also find do a number of dishes here that you won't find in other pubs. Sadly I can't write about the hotel as I haven't been able to stay there, but I hear the rooms are nice. Finally, take a look at their website and the fliers they print. They are always holding different events from a murder mystery night to costume parties and mimi-concerts. The Bull is definitely a great location and a must visit if passing through.

Yelp
The food is delicious, the beds are super comfy, and the people are a delight. What more is there to say? Everything we have tried here has been delicious and the dessert it to die for. Especially the sticky toffee pud!
google avatar

Yelp
Ok, we were in town for a week and this was recommended by a friend. I had the pork filet medallions which were amazing, my wife had the beef filet, which was probably the best steak we've had in Europe. If nothing else, you have to try the sticky toffee pudding... it has nothing to do with pudding as Americans know it, but it's unbelievably good. We leave in two days and will eat here again before we leave.

Yelp
Resturant and bar are always packed on a daily basis. Food is great and the staff are welcoming.

Yelp
Great atmosphere with even better food and their famous caramel desert. Service is on point as well.

Yelp
Below par service for the price you pay $$. We sat in the dining room for our anniversary dinner. Service was horrible. The waitress came by 2x in a 2 hr period and didn't even offer a refill until I stared her down. Our food took 45 min. Steaks were great but why do they charge 3 quid for butter and 3 quid for bread?? C'mon England! Way overpriced for the value. Won't be back. Very disappointed.

Yelp
Really great steak cooked to perfection, but starters were small and very expensive for what was served. Good place to go but would go more often if it was better value for money.

Kristen H.

Yelp
This is my current favorite restaurant in the area! The Bull Inn has a more formal dining room, and a pub side as well. You can order food in both areas. I've enjoyed the sausage and mash (very tasty) as well as a sea bass special. The sticky toffee pudding is hands down the best I've ever had! We also enjoy the brie appetizer.

Lexie W.

Yelp
On the more expensive side however the food is locally sourced and you can really tell! Worth the extra expense. There are budget options on the pub menu, which is the section where we dined. My ribeye was cooked to perfection and one of the best steaks I've ever had (I don't normally order steak as I'm usually underwhelmed but this was a wise choice). Sticky pudding was absolutely delish. Lovely atmosphere, cozy but still spacious. Waitstaff were busy but polite and attentive. Will certainly return.

Yelp
Very VERY good. We are Americans and we were taken here by friends and we LOVED it. We were very impressed with the food and the service. I had the pork filet and my wife had the chicken with spinach. Both excellent. Beer and wine choices good as well. We will be going back!

Elizabeth G.

Yelp
This is my new favorite place. Great ambiance and excellent food. I had the roasted duck and parsnips (I didn't even know I liked parsnips.. So good!) my hubby had the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin. We finished our meal with creme brûlée (the shortbread it is paired with is also amazing). My only regret: I was driving and couldn't order wine.
