BULL Burford (Burford, Cotswolds) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"From the outside, BULL looks like your typical Cotswolds coaching inn: all golden stone and historic charm. Inside, it is anything but. Owned by Matthew Freud, it’s a curious, quietly subversive stay filled with Banksys, Dalís and Damien Hirsts, seven wildly varied dining and drinking spots, and bedrooms stocked with mezcal negronis and midnight snacks from a pantry called The Trough. Lighting is pitch-perfect, the service smart but unstuffy, and the wine cellar is hidden behind a French prison door and home to Idris Elba’s poker table. At BULL, every corner comes with a plot twist." - Tablet Hotels

I would just like to say to Hannah and Nicole thank you so much for yesterday when you kindly looked after us for my birthday, following the disaster of a start and trip from hell at another hotel we had booked which was shocking, even though your lovely hotel had no rooms available, you still went out of your way to help, the free drinks and assistance to find us a suitable hotel for the weekend was very much appreciated. We will be making a future booking with you and look forward to staying in the future. Five star compassion ❤️

We had a fabulous two-day break at Bull. From the moment we walked through the door, the service was fantastic from everyone we met - from the receptionists and restaurant manager to the team who were finishing off the interior decor refresh. It was an anniversary weekend, so we wanted it to be special. Our suite was the ultimate place to relax. Reviewers have commented on the subtle lighting in the rooms, which is true. Add to that the bold decor, which I loved, the heated bathroom floor and the fluffiest bathrobes . Downstairs was busy and buzzing. All the food and drinks were good, but highlights were the fresh mackerel starter I had at lunch on the first day, the green tomato Bloody Marys and the pizza we shared on our last evening. Burford itself was the perfect place to wander around and window-shop on an autumn morning and it's well placed for exploring further afield too. We didn't have time to do everything we wanted, so we'll be back.

Very close to The Highway where we were staying which was really helpful. The food was absolutely amazing, my partner had the steak which he said was cooked to perfection, I had the pork with caramelised apple sauce, carrots and mash which was DELICIOUS! I also had the Maestro's Choice cocktail which was also so delicious. Such a wonderful treat for us and our pooch who was treated like royalty by all of the staff, on our stay away. The only negative was that we had to wait a little too long for our drinks and our food order to be taken. But overall, a really lovely restaurant and one of the big highlights of our getaway for sure.

We were first time visitors. Spoke with reception on the day of our visit and they managed to get three of us and 2 dogs sat. We all order the Sunday roast - pork belly - all elements were outstanding…. Service was excellent.. and great value. ||Can highly recommend.

I don't usually write reviews on the restaurants even on positive or negative experiences but this one I couldn't just leave it as its. The most amazing staff, both Roxana and Vasco, very helpful and friendly. We had an amazing lunch at this amazing restaurant. I will visit again. 100% recommended

We have just stayed at The Bull Inn in Burford for a weekend to celebrate my husband’s birthday. ||The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful – our room (the Market Room) was stunning, beautifully decorated, with thoughtful touches such as a drinks and snacks trolley. The bathroom was equally lovely, with underfloor heating adding a touch of luxury.||Unfortunately, a few details took away from what could have been a perfect stay. The fudge on the trolley had gone out of date the previous month, and the peanut brittle was due to expire shortly – not what you would expect when paying a premium for such a stay.||We dined in the restaurant (Horn) and, while the food itself was absolutely delicious, the experience was overshadowed by service and comfort issues. Our table was in the centre of the restaurant near the door to the rear dining area, which was left open, making it very cold – we ended up eating with our jackets on. Service was warm when we arrived, but sadly wasn’t maintained. We asked twice and waited over 25 minutes for a dessert menu that never arrived, and in the end just asked for the bill. Meanwhile, another table (who were not hotel guests) received extra attention from the manager, champagne, and a cake after an issue – which made our own disappointing service feel even more noticeable. For what was meant to be a special birthday celebration, it left us quite underwhelmed. ||Breakfast the following morning sadly continued the theme. We were told the smoothie machine was broken, so the healthy menu options weren’t available. When our full breakfasts arrived, my husband’s poached eggs were closer to boiled eggs, and although the waiter eventually asked if he would like replacements, by then he had already finished eating. Small but important details were missing too – no butter for toast, no teaspoons for coffee – which again fell short of the premium standard the hotel projects.||Overall, The Bull Inn is a quirky and gorgeous property, with beautifully designed rooms and great food. However, the service throughout our stay was inconsistent, lacking attention to detail, and left us disappointed. With more care and better staffing, this could easily be a five-star experience.

recently stayed at The Bull and overall, it was a lovely experience. The staff were amazing!!!friendly, helpful, and really made us feel welcome. The rooms are charming and comfortable, and the food was absolutely fantastic, especially the pizza!||||The only thing that let the experience down slightly were a few minor maintenance issues. some paint chips carpet stains and a broken toilet seat in my room. After I payed £300 a night you would think this would have been sorted….Considering the amount I paid for the stay, I expected those details to be in better condition.||||Aside from that, everything else was great, and I would definitely consider staying again for the great atmosphere and excellent service.

We went for my birthday weekend celebrations and I’d been really looking forward to popping into the Bull to try their food! We had pizza out the back and whilst the pizza was one of the best pizzas I had ever had, I was really disappointed with the service. The staff did not seem bothered and would stand in huddles giving me side eye constantly which started to upset me. There was only one other guest there and they didn’t seem to give them looks. The waiter proceeded to remove the food at our table before we’d even finished the olives. I had been so excited to try here and would happily go back for the food alone but the staff upset me a lot with their behaviour as they acted like they didn’t want us there.

Yelp
We had dinner here to thank some relatives for their hospitality. We had been staying just down the road, so it was very easy to get to. However, if you are traveling to Burford just for lunch or dinner, parking in the high Street can be quite a challenge. This is a very cozy establishment that features dining and bar areas and strikes the perfect balance between traditional charm and modern comfort. There is a bit of rustic, a lot of classy, and a general sense of warmth that is amplified by the very welcoming service. The menu is small but mighty and offers the bounty of the season. The vegetarian options are fairly limited, but the gnocchi was extra delicious--rich and creamy with heaps of umami from a variety of mushrooms, it was a hug in a bowl. For dessert, I had the sticky toffee pudding, which was amazing. (I specifically requested a single spoon.) The toffee sauce was the perfect balance of bitter and sweet with a touch of salt, and it hit exactly right. I definitely recommend dining here if you are staying in Burford.

Yelp
We've been doing a trip and we started off in London, in Guildford. It was a 3-starred hotel with great conditions and normal breakfast. We expected this hotel would be much better for the huge price (almost the double of the price) and didn't deliver it... £170 for TILTED FLOOR, POOR ATTEMPT TO BALANCE and horrible beds, come on...a sofa-bed...really...for a pricey hotel?? Poor safety conditions with horrible noise in the background. I honestly would sleep better in a £50 hotel...! The bathroom is mediocre and the water takes a while to heat and the only thing giving those 2 stars rating from me are the little village which is cute and the Wi-Fi! I was in this place for 2 nights and tried to cancel a night because of the horrible conditions and the owner was too lazy to do it, horrible excuses. Strongly DO NOT RECOMMEND
