My wife, 2 friends and I stayed a Saturday night at the Bull as part of a weekend in Burford, and we don’t think we’ll be going there again. It charges prices which suggest a luxury boutique hotel, but our experience fell far short of that. ||Both rooms had problems. In the Beam room the carpet had some large stains. The underfloor heating in the bathroom stopped working soon after arrival, and when this was pointed out to staff, it was not fixed. The bathroom was freezing when the guests arrived, because the window was open, and they had to call staff to shut it, because it was stuck. The WC was uncomfortable, because it is close to the window, there is no double glazing, and the underfloor heating was not working. People walk back and forth along the entire length of the bathroom and room, which doesn’t make for a peaceful stay or allow for privacy if the guests leave the curtains open. The Nespresso machine was unusable because it had no container for the water, and staff did not repair or replace it, when this was pointed out to them. The guests were not given a wifi code on arrival, so they had to ask Reception for it. In the Cosy Room there was no place where the guests could hang up clothes (not even hooks on the backs of the doors). The guests’ sleep was badly disrupted by noise from the street between 11 p.m. and midnight, which showed that there was no double glazing. (I rang Reception to complain about the noise.) The curtains let in light through the windows during the night, thus making sleep more difficult. The advertising mentioned “sweeping rooftop views” but there was hardly a view at all. There was only one chair in the room, which made it a difficult place to spend time, but strangely there were 2 wineglasses, with expensive bottles of wine available for sale, which suggested that the management were trying to persuade guests to sit drinking wine in the room. It didn’t make sense.|We did not try the hotel’s dining options because, when we tried to book a table 2 weeks before our visit, no tables were available except in the pizza and ice cream restaurant, and we did not want to eat pizza on the Saturday night. When I explained that we were hotel guests, I was given a vague promise that we “wouldn’t go hungry”, but did not get an idea of when we would be able to eat, so we had dinner at the Baytree Hotel instead, which was excellent. The breakfast was good, and the portions were large.|On 2 different occasions when I rang Reception, there was no answer and I left a voicemail message. On both occasions no-one rang me back, and I had to ring again. In general there was no attention to detail, and this caused a series of problems. ||So none of the 4 of us would recommend anyone else to stay there. The Bull does not provide value for money.
