The Best Restaurants in Richardson, Texas | Eater Dallas

"For those who haven’t had Japanese meat sliced, deep fried, and coated with eggs, flour, and Panko, it’s time to pop into Bulldog. The katsu here is made with the diner’s choice of chicken, pork, fish, shrimp, and Chinese pork, and is packaged in a bento box with a selection of traditional sides. Bulldog also offers a selection of udon (noodle soup) and a katsu sandwich. More of a drop-in than a hangout, Bulldog is a fast-casual establishment, decorated with lots of posters of food gracing the walls and every other surface. Takeout is available online." - Courtney E. Lovely place with a cool ambience. An old lady hosts you at the counter. She is very polite and friendly. All the items have a pic displayed the counter, so that you exactly know what you are ordering and what you will get. The food is well prepared, light, and tastes well. The place is kept very neat. The music is upbeat and trendy. If you need ice for the sodas or drinks then ask for it, and you will have some.

Bulldog has the best Katsu in the town. The price is reasonable! All the side dishes are well cooked and delicious! My six year loves their Katsu too! The dine in is spacious and calming. The owner has a great eye contact and polite with smile.

This is a Korean owned restaurant. It feels fast food style. You grab a pager and order at the kiosk. They have a self serve area for utensils and water cups. We had the pork cheese katsu deluxe bento and fried squid. The fried squid was my favorite part. I like that the bento came with miso soup. There was also a bbq and a mayo based sauce for the bento. The katsu was great with the cheese.

Everything was so tasty. And I really enjoyed the sesame balls and almost wanted to head back to the restaurant to go get more as we were sharing them. Update October 18, 2024: we ate inside tonight and it was so very good. One of us had the chicken Katsu with curry on it and the other had the classic chicken Katsu. So crispy and good. Had to get the sesame balls again, of course. Big favorite. Thanks, Bulldog Katsu!! Update January 11, 2025. Still wonderful. Got me pickiest family member to try it last week and he loved it and wanted it again this week. They also fixed our online order that was missing curry from last week and I greatly appreciate that. Update July 7, 2025. All still so good. We go about once a week or two. The owner is so nice and truly cares about your experience.

This is one of those hidden places that will wow you. Very casual with a rich menu. Very clean place with good environment. Friendly service and very affordable. Dish presentation is interesting, everything is edible. Eating area is almost private so people outside the restaurant won’t see you eating, I like that. Tasty food with very good seasoning and generous portions.

I was thoroughly impressed by Bulldog Katsu the food was amazing and exactly what I expected. The portions are nice-sized, the facility was clean and the employees are just okay. I don't feel that the food was overpriced but I do wish it was a bit cheaper so I could eat it more often. One complaint I would make is they have no fountain drink option which would make this place a 5 Stars instead of 4 in my opinion. Why four stars instead of five: I would prefer Fountain drinks over canned *Poor *Decent *Good *Great *Best *JLFoodie Certified Food. Great Service. Good Cleanliness.Good Consistency. Great Variety. Google
Got a chicken katsu sandwich. It uses spicy mayo which isnt that spicy but my accomplice used 5 tissues because it was so spicy. Also got a pork katsu deluxe bento. Loved all the Japanese side dishes that came with it. Especially the pickled plum which I usually hate. It was so delicious here. However the bowl is deceiving and is shallow. Could definitely use more rice. Both the sandwhich and the bento katsus were pretty dry.

My husband stopped by for a pick up order on the way home from work. He got the Chicken Katsu bento box. Food was fresh and looked delicious. Loved the variety included in the meal. Everything tasted wonderful and you receive a good sized portion for the price (looked like 2 sliced chicken breasts). Loved it all and will be back!

Yelp
FOOD Classic Pork Katsu - The classic comes with cutlet, cabbage rice, and miso soup. It's super crispy and crunchy on the outside and the inside is great. The meat is tender and well cooked. Cabbage is fresh and crunchy as well. The sauce was perfectly drenched on the top of the cutlet and seeping down some onto the cabbage to give it more flavor. I did not have the miso since I'm allergic, but heard good things about it from my friend. Overall, pretty yummy katsu! VIBES The place is pretty sizeable with lots of seating from long wooden benches and standard tables to higher chairs and tables. I went around 7 PM with my friend and it wasn't super crowded. They have a cute city-like aesthetic with the cute-painted brick wall. The lighting is pretty dim and the place is pretty casual. SERVICE Service was great! The lady taking our order at the register was super sweet. It was pretty funny when my friend and I were trying to fight to pay for the bill, she said, "Don't fight" in a joking way. The menu also looks very clean and nicely laid out. Everything came out quickly and the food was great!

Yelp
New favorite spot! Delicious udon noodles , great portion sizes for the meat, tasty salad, and filling bento boxes. Their curry sauce is thick and creamy. Their meals also come with a warm and savory miso soup bowl. Their potions are very well balanced. It was my first time trying soupless udon noodles and cheese filled pork Katsu! The lady at the cashier was super kind explaining the menu to us. It's very well decorated , and i appreciated the images with the names of the dishes on the way. It made choosing what to eat even more difficult since everything looked so delicious ! But now I know I have to come back and try other dishes.

Yelp
The lady who was working the counter was soo sweet, 10/10 on the service. Inside it's very clean and modern feeling. They have cups of water for you to grab by the sauces. I'm not sure if this type of food isn't something that I would typically go for, but I thought the food was just okay. Curry and katsu was solid but I honestly preferred the katsu chicken sandwich over my meal. The fried squid was not my favorite, kind of oily but it wasn't bad; I just wouldn't get it again. Since for me I'm only every really enjoying curry and katsu if it's really cold out, my experience might differ from someone who enjoyed katsu more often. Solid place though.

Yelp
Bulldog Katsu definitely delivered in terms of quality of food production. The only gripe I have that didn't allow me to give 5/5 stars was I wish the quantity of the food was a tad bit larger.

Yelp
After shopping in the area, we searched Yelp for lunch options, and decided to give this a try. Clean and comfortable atmosphere. Menus and pics along the entry wall were helpful with deciding what you want before you arrive at the counter. After selecting our beverages from the chiller that held canned soft drinks and bottled water and tea, we approached the counter and placed our order. We received numbered beeper and chose an open table. Utensils, napkins and condiments were available at a self-service station. A short while later the beeper sounded, and our meals were ready. The bento meals included the main entree, furikake rice, salad, miso soup, two pieces of crab sushi, a fried dumpling and a sesame sweet bean dumpling. I don't usually care for miso soup but I actually enjoyed this soup, which was smooth and flavorful. The chicken katsu was nice and crispy and tasted great with the katsu sauce and spicy mayo. My husband said the bulgogi was okay, not at all sweet as authentic bulgoi should be. Overall, we were able to grab a quick, tasty meal at this cute casual dinner.

Yelp
Love the restaurant, staff and food. Make sure to say hi to Baby Yoda and let him show you the force The food is fantastic. I'll definitely come back. I ordered the bento box and it was amazing.

Yelp
I ordered from Bulldog via UberEats and got the Cheese Pork Katsu Curry Udon, potato krokette, and sesame balls. First off, I need more places to offer sesame balls on their menu. Every time I see them it's nearly an immediate order for me lol. I've been craving Japanese curry like crazy and since my fave place isn't currently on the delivery apps, I've been making due finding alternatives. Enter Bulldog Katsu. Primarily a katsu restaurant, they offer a variety of dishes featuring the crispy delight. Normally Chicken Katsu is my go-to but when I saw the cheesy pork katsu, I knew I had to get it. Food arrived in separate containers, thank goodness! It was still hot af and all mixed perfectly together. I even threw the krokette in there. Everything tasted great. The noodles were perfectly done, the curry was deliciously mild and comforting, and everything that needed a crunch, had it! Honestly, I wish they had more curry dishes or options to customize your own. Also the addition of extras like cheese or corn (which maybe I missed on the app, it happens). Overall, very tasty. Excellent flavor and crunch. A great delivery option that I imagine is even better in person!

Yelp
This is a good spot for lunch. I like how it's a self serve type place where you order at the counter and pick up/return your trays on your own making it a good spot if you're on your lunch break. The food presentation is nice, the food is good and the service was friendly. Will definitely come back for lunch!

Yelp
Delightful experience at Bulldog Katsu! Their bento and Udon are wonderfully tasty, served with a smile in a charming and cute atmosphere. The service is impeccable, making it a great place to visit. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Love the variety of the bento box where you can get a little bit of everything. Great spot for lunch or casual dinner. Plenty of tables with an area where you can grab utensils, napkins, and water. Don't forget to grab the sauces there as well like the go katsu sauce to drizzle onto your pork.

Esme P.

Yelp
Was not planning on coming here, but the restaurant next door was closed. I was afraid to eat here since I don't know about Japanese food too much. Ordered Chicken Katsu bento box and was sooooo good!!! Can't wait until I come back!

Yelp
They do katsu right. Perfectly crisp, tender, and seasoned with balance. While the portions might be a bit deceiving for the deluxe, it will definitely fill you. The ensemble they create for their dish is art and a symphony of flavor. The portioned rice, the pickled variety, the katsu, the marinated egg, the sauce, the freshly cooked sesame ball. It all works so well. I hope this stays consistent as this might be my goto spot for katsu.

Yelp
I had Chicken Katsu Curry, and it was a delightful experience! The chicken katsu was perfectly crispy, and the addition of pickled veggies added a burst of flavors. The potato korokke was very good, and they have a variety of Japanese drinks. Despite the lunch rush, the service was excellent. The wait is worth it, and you can still enjoy a quick in-and-out experience. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Definitely a low key katsu place but the food you get is delicious. I got the chicken katsu deluxe and the extra $1 is definitely worth the deluxe. Overall a good place to grab a quick dinner with friends. I haven't picked up from here but it also seems like a good place to order to go as well.

Yelp
Upon entering the restaurant, I felt a bit overwhelmed by the menu, but the staff was incredibly kind and patient, explaining the different items to me. Eventually, I settled on the cheese pork katsu bento box. If you're a cheese lover, then you'll surely enjoy this! The bento boxes were not only adorable but also offered a delightful variety of foods, all of which were delicious. I highly recommend this place and eagerly await my next opportunity to visit again.

Yelp
Very cool little mom and pop shop. Hip kind of vibe, very nice service, and really delicious. Cool concept!

Yelp
We went in closer to closing time and the lady at the front was so extremely sweet! I highly recommend trying the cheese pork katsu, easily the best I have had in the whole metroplex. The kimchi bulgoi udon was delicious as well. Definitely am planning on going back! :)
google avatar

Yelp
Hubby and I loved the katsu. We opted for the Bento box that comes with 1) a green leafy salad with yummy homemade dressing; 2) 2 pieces of California Roll; 3) 1 piece of fried dumpling; 4) 1 piece of sesame ball; 5) bowl of miso soup; 5) generous pieces of crunchy katsu; 6) white rice sprinkled with furikaki; and 7) a slice of palate cleansing orange. Everything for $11.00. Counter service to order and pickup, and plenty of seating. Great deal and yummy food.

Yelp
I did not expect to come here because I was planning to eat at another location. However, Bulldog Katsu surprised me with the portions of the dish which added a nice palette. The sides paired very well with the chicken Katsu. The miso soup was a bit on the saltier side but worked while eating the other dishes.

Yelp
I love coming here for my udon fix! The service is quick, the owner is so sweet, and they offer easily accessible water or utensils etc. My favorites off the menu gotta be the spicy miso udon, the curry udon, or the bibim udon. I'm always stuck deciding between either of the three, but I recommend the spicy miso on a cold day and the bibim udon when you're feeling something spicy. Their serving sizes are pretty spot on since I'm always satisfied afterwards Financially and stomach wise. I think the only singular thing I didn't like here was that I got confused on my initial visit here.. with shrimp katsu = shrimp tempura. But that's kinda on me ,,, I had thought that the katsu would come out patty shaped and cut up but nonetheless this place is bomb

Lindsay W.

Yelp
The food was delicious definitely try this restaurant and great service- Udon curry and Katsu omg everything was perfectly cooked
google avatar

Sonia C.

Yelp
I got the bento box Shrimp katsu and everything was so good! My husband got chicken katsu and it was served on a grill rack to keep the crispiness! This business knows how to serve crispy food! All of the food we ordered was so good. We'll definitely be coming back.
google avatar

Rafaela D.

Yelp
I was craving katsu, and it was either this 5-minute drive to Bulldog or 10 minutes away to Mitsuwa. Sadly, I wish I had made that 10 minute drive. Their tonkatsu is well fried and crispy, but the curry is very much giving microwaved. Nothing special about it and nothing too flavorful about the pork itself. I think it's a great place to eat at for groups of 2-4, but the ambience and interior probably isn't meant for any groups larger than that. Don't expect it to be like your go-to chicken and beer hangout, or your midday spontaneous food trip; it's more of your office lunch break vibe.

Kass C.

Yelp
Such good food! We've tried the chicken & pork katsu curry, gyoza, shrimp tempura, chicken karaage, and a korokke and every dish was excellent. Their sauces are very good, you get large portions of meat and rice, and their breading is just right. Their curry has a great flavor and is in my opinion the best Japanese curry in Collin county. Truly authentic Japanese flavor and cooking.

Lucy N.

Yelp
Utterly disgusted at the service that we received here. We placed an order for miso soup , chicken and a Ramen soda. That alone came out to almost 11 $12 which was really crazy Prices to begin with... Then I as if that's not bad enough, we went to ask for a container for sauce, to which the elderly Asian woman at the cashier replied she didn't have any sauce containers. We opened up our container of chicken and saw that there was a small sauce container already filled with a sauce so we told her how do you not have containers if there's a soft container in here, and she just seemed really adamant about not giving us one even though we were paying customers. I thought it was really weird how she was extraordinarily rude to my husband, as well as the only other black person in the establishment. The white people didn't get that kind of treatment there. so not only were they rude, but they were racist!!! I demanded a refund especially as the chicken was only a few very overly crispy and dry looking pieces def not worth the price. The lady didn't wanna give me a refund until I got louder and people were around. Don't come here unless you wanna be discriminated against and waste your money with rude people. As a Mexican American I won't ever support.
google avatar

Holly N.

Yelp
Bulldog katsu was pretty decent but I have had better. I didn't get to try my friends entrees because they were sick and I was getting kinda sick so the only thing we shared was the gyoza. Gyoza (4/5) - you can't really go wrong with gyoza so if you mess gyoza up then you really shouldn't be a business LOL. I like my gyoza really crunchy and they didn't disappoint. The sauce could've been better though Bulgogi kimchi udon (3/5) - for some reason it didn't satisfy my udon craving. Idk why! It might've been the saltiness of the broth or maybe because I enjoy shrimp tempura udon more. I felt like the portion was also kinda small. I was not full.
google avatar

Jamie Y.

Yelp
Bulldog katsu is located in this dead strip mall, but don't let that fool you. They have great food at decent price! We visited last Thursday for dinner, and the restaurant was empty. Maybe they are busier during lunch time. I hope they stay in business because I loved their food! We ordered cheese katsu bento, fish katsu delux, udon with shrimp tempura and spicy tuna roll. Everything was delicious. Both cheese katsu and fish katsu were not grease at all, flavorful, each bento and delux are packed with extra food items. So yummy! Shrimp tempura was kinda small in size for the price, but other than that, everything was good. I would love to go back to try on other items soon!

Yelp
Ever in a need for variety? During and after quarantine, this place has always been a hidden gem! Best comfort Japanese food in the area! Don't miss out.

Yelp
I have driven by this place numerous times and one day I remembered to check out their menu. I knew I would definitely get the chicken kaarage, but I had to decide whether I wanted the pork or chicken katsu. They both seemed appealing. I went with the chicken. The chicken karaage was juicy and piping hot. It had a great flavor to it. The chicken katsu had a great crunch, the cabbage gives you some greenery. The roll is sturdy, and works well with the cutlet. I would ask for a little more flavor on the chicken. I think the pork will naturally be more flavorful than the chicken, so I do look forward to trying it next time. The sandwich comes with a sauce, that was a little subtle, I would have liked if the sauce stuck out, a little more. I asked for extra sauce, and was told there was some in the bag. Not what I asked, but I managed. In all, it was good, and I will be back!

Yelp
This spot is a place I go regularly as the fried food is solid. Highly recommend the following: 1. The katsu 2. Sesame rolls 3. Udon The items above are my "go-to's" they have perfected the light crispness of fried food without being overly too fried! The udon noodles was not overly cooked consistently! However, I would not recommend any of the sushi rolls as it is 80%rice and a small fried piece of fish. Not worth it and lacks flavor. Overall, solid place for a quick meal! I give it a 3.5/5 stars!
google avatar

Yelp
love their food. very tasteful and delicious. everything was on pare!! definitely would come back again to try more items! when i went they weren't serving sushi but everything else is really good!

Yelp
This is such a great spot to hang with friends and have delicious food! It's always great every time. I especially like their curry pork katsu - plan to try more from their menu in the future! Definitely recommend! :)

Yelp
The interior was really cutesy, def a good date spot. The food was fairly priced and yummy. The owner was really kind as well! The dining hall is self-service and has a food tray put back area. I just want to say that their logo is super cute xD
google avatar

Yelp
The owner is a sweet sweet lady who is always energetic and the food is amazing. I usually order the Bibimbop and it's filling and healthy. The Bento Box is pretty legit as well and that fried shrimp has just the right type of crisp. I definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
I was in the Richardson area and just looked on Yelp for good restaurants and this place came up as a new & hot place. They have a mix of korean and japanese food but I would say more of Korean dishes. One of their specialities is katsu which roughly translates to cutlets. I got the curry chicken katsu deluxe which was quite good. The chicken was breaded and had good flavor. I was told that the deluxe has more rice and ingredients and soup. The soup was just OK, I didn't finish it. The curry was pretty good but it would have been even better if it had some heat. The veggies that came with the dish was amazing, they had a wonderful color and the flavors were just so good. I don't know what they put on the veggies but I could eat it all day long :-) I would definitely try one of their beef dishes next time I come by here.

Joel P.

Yelp
Modern fixtures and nice vibes all around ~ We got the curry chicken and pork cheese katsus, and both fell on the salty side, so beware! Also, the prices have increased over the past few months, so keep that in mind. It's located in an unassuming location, but I would go here if I were only close and really craving katsu. Ambience: 4.5/5 Food: 3/5

Yelp
We were technically going to go to the Vietnamese restaurant next door, but I saw this place and wanted to eat here since it was 4.5 stars. The prices are not bad $8 to $10 dollars depending on what you get. I got the cheese pork katsu which comes with some California rolls, salad, miso soup, sesame ball, rice and miso soup. We ordered the takoyaki as well which was good. Overall the food was good and fresh and did not wait too long for food
google avatar

Justin J.

Yelp
Great spot with some good food. My favorite is the cheese pork katsu. The beef bulgogi (31) is also something you want to try out. They offer beer and sake Limited drinks. Come and some Japan carbonated drinks.
google avatar

Kimberly E.

Yelp
We've been here multiple times when we find ourselves in the Richardson area. This place has our favorite cheese katsu. We've had a couple at different places, but this one has been consistently good. I normally get the veggie bimbimbap which is also good. It is bland without the sauce of course, but the meat one has more flavor even without the sauce. My chicken katsu sandwich was okay. I've had one in Japan, so it's difficult to top those. It was still good once I put all the sauces on, but the peppers in sandwich did not really add to the flavor. It detracted more than added. The onion rings were an okay addition as well. Overall the sandwich was a little difficult to buy into because of the volume with the cabbage, katsu, and onion rings. It was part of the clean plate club, but I think I'll order other things now that I've tried the chicken katsu sandwich. We've also eaten the udon there and that was good, but I wouldn't say it's a stellar dish that they'd be known for. The fried squid is good though. It's less oily than other places. Staff is kind and the ambience of the place is cozy. Overall I do enjoy eating here and going back here when we are up here. Definitely recommended the cheese katsu!
google avatar

Rosa K.

Yelp
I have been craving cheese katsu since I've seen it on TV and I'm so glad we found this spot! The cheese literally melted and the string of cheese was sooo long. The cheese katsu bowl comes with rice at the bottom with pickled vegetables, hard boiled egg and some other sides. MUST TRY. We also tried the bulgogi udon which was also good. It broth was rich and the bulgogi was flavorful. If I had to choose between the two, I would say go with the cheese katsu.
google avatar

Yelp
sooo yummy i got the cheese katsu and chicken karaage. it took a little while to get the food but it was worth it it was so good and the place itself is very cute and quiet

Yelp
If you haven't tried the spot, I highly recommend that you give them a shot. The location is accessible, small, cute, well decorated, lots of seating and the food is AMAZING!!
google avatar

Yelp
Ok so the taste is there for the katsu they do a great job. However, as tempted as i am to give it 4 stars it did not make it quite there yet. The fried chicken is mediocre at best and in some ways worst than the mc nuggets you get a McDonald's. I will say for the try and true taste definitely go with the Pork Cheese katsu and the curry pork katsu . Until next time ladies and gents.
google avatar

Dongjoon C.

Yelp
I was not impressed at all. The staff was friendly, but since it was my first time there, more explanation could've been helpful. The portion was ok, but not for the price. The flavor was good but the meat in katsu was so thin i could barely taste any meat.
google avatar

Karla H.

Yelp
Great katsu place! The quality of the food is top notch. I always get the chicken katsu and the crispy exterior of it is so delicate and crunchy, beautiful texture. The meals are so filling at a great price point. Their menu is vast and they have a lot of options to customize your katsu meal. Feels very authentic!
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
I have really been wanting to try the cheese pork katsu and finally got a chance! The pork katsu was really crispy and the cheese went well with the pork. The portion was very filling even though it was the basic plate. I also got an order for takoyaki. it was a little more doughy but still good! My friend ordered the spicy miso udon and she said it was delicious. they have lemon water on the side for you to drink and parking was not hard to find as it's located in a little strip plaza.
google avatar

Ernie K.

Yelp
Drove by this place so many times and today, we finally decided to try it. It's a very cute place with a simple menu. And while it's not the best Katsu (sorry, I have been to Japan way too many times...maybe 80+ so my rating is quite critical), it was delicious. Wish they gave more sauce (something more authentic) and give different quality of meat to choose from. Also, most Katsu places in Japan gives unlimited lettuce with those ginger sauce. And no WiFi. That's gotta change. Will come here from time to time.

Yelp
Best curry udon spot in Richardson,TX. Very clean/well serviced/great portion love togo dine in . I had a perfect meal!!

Yelp
Food - 4 Service - 4 Value - 3 My wife and I were actually orignally planning to eat at another restaurant in the same plaza, but the big sign and bulldog caught our attention, so we looked this place up on Yelp and decided to eat here instead. We got the chicken katsu deluxe and the pork tonkatsu deluxe. It was just about the right portion size for dinner and offered a nice assortment of flavors. The menu seemed somewhat limited, and the location is a little too far for us to really frequent this place when there are so many other options serving similar fare closer to us.
