I come here mostly for prime rib Wednesdays. It’s a very good deal for a large piece of prime rib. Baked potato would be an additional charge. The regular items are reasonably priced. They are pretty busy during every visit. There’s usually a wait if you arrive after 5pm. The waitresses were nice but I waited for a long time to get a to go box and the check every time. Be prepared to wait for a table and your check. It’s not easy to find parking and that’s one of the reasons I don’t go often. Anyways, it seems like a good place to be for some beer and watch games.

I’ve been to Bullpen a few times now. This was probably my third visit, and I come specifically for their Wednesday prime rib special. For just $25.95, you get a massive cut of prime rib, easily 16 oz or more, served with steamed broccoli and a baked potato. For just $2 extra, you can get the potato fully loaded, and it’s absolutely worth it. The prime rib itself is the real star - perfectly seasoned, juicy, and full of flavor. It’s honestly one of the best deals in town for the quality and portion size. The atmosphere is what you’d expect from a classic sports bar: casual and unpretentious, with plenty of TVs showing all kinds of games. It’s not fancy, but it’s comfortable and lively. If you’re craving great prime rib without breaking the bank, I highly recommend checking out Bullpen on a Wednesday night. You won’t be disappointed.

If you dont want to feel like you are being finessed for a good tip, I suggest getting a male server. The female servers tend to have a aura about them that screams "i just want your money" so the interaction often feels fake and unauthentic. It also good to note that a few of them actually work at the strip club next door. So they they have a lot of experience faking their "nice charm". Other than that, the food is good and and the atmosphere for sports is nice.

Need to watch the game? This is your place. TVs, comfortable chairs, great service, and food to boot. What else do you need. Go check them out, they have NA beer too!

Google
I am so glad I stumbled upon the Bullpen. It has this "cigar bar" lounge feel. The chairs and seating so very relaxing and chill. Good music playing and games on the tv. The staff was amazing. Knowledgeable and attentive. The pizza was so good and plenty for 3 guys. Next time I'm in town I will be going back. It was super close to my hotel. Parking wasn't an issue at all. All around a great way to spend your evening.

Google
When I went it was not busy. But the waitresses and very nice and the food was decent. I would go on Wednesday for the deal. They do have a lot of tvs for sports but not very many happy hours or cheap beer options for being out in Kearny

Google
This place is such a find! Great atmosphere, incredibly friendly staff, stellar food & surprisingly good prices. Good for families or just a friend's night out. Eat in the bar area for sports nights, drinks & music or find more quiet in the large main dining room. Always had a fantastic experience here. Highly recommend the seared ahi, lemon chicken (my favorite) & the tri-tip rub - both the sandwich & the dinner are excellent. My go-to spot in San Diego.

Google
Cool sports bar with a relaxed atmosphere and good service for a Wednesday night when there wasn't that many people. Dinner was delicious and we were able to have a normal conversation without having to yell over any loud music. You also get a 360 degree view of sports games, motorsports, and anything else you'd be interested in watching on the plethora of TV's hung throughout the place. They have a full kitchen that's open until midnight; steaks, fish and chips, hamburgers, etc... They also have a full bar. Prices are middle of the road for dinner ranging from $8 for a sandwich to $25 for some steak. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
We were looking for a quick place to have a light meal. We decided on The Bullpen Bar & Grill. This is a decent sized bar with lots of TV's all around the bar. If you're a sports fan and want to meet friends for a game or two, this would be the place!! I heard there's 45+ TV's and I didn't count! ;) When we entered, they told us we could sit anywhere. We were quickly given menus. The young lady was very friendly. We ordered the BLT salad and added steak for the protein. It was a simple one. Lettuce wedge, diced tomatoes, diced red onions, blue cheese crumbles, crispy bacon, and ranch dressing. You could have it like that or opt to add a protein. There is steak, chicken, or grilled shrimp for your options. They have an extensive menu items to choose from. A little of everything for everyone! Appetizers, burgers, tacos, salads, soups, sandwiches, chicken, and more! There's even a small children's menu! On the table, there's a small breakfast menu that is served all day as well. Overall, a decent place for a meal. The TV's were a bonus. Lots of seating options. There was seating when you first entered. As you walk through that area, there's more. There was patio seating as well. Parking is a shared parking lot. It fills up quickly in front. Ample parking a few steps away from the entrance. The waitress was cordial. Other wait staff delivered the food and took the empty plates were friendly. The place seemed a little dark, but all the TV's brightened up the place! If you're a sports fan, this would be up your alley!!

Yelp
This is more like a 3.5 star kind of place. I come here mostly for prime rib Wednesdays. It's a very good deal for a large piece of prime rib. Baked potato would be an additional charge. Yelp
Looked on Yelp for a dinner restaurant serving prime rib. Once seated, looked through menu and.,,where's the prime rib??? Doc looked it up and it's only served on Wednesdays...oh shuckeroos! The seasoned vegetables on my shrimp scampi plate were tasty. The shrimp drowned in wine and lemon, more than garlic. The prime rib bits tacos were not eye candy but our pretty server was. It took a while to be seated and even longer for our order to be taken. Liked that the offer to refill the iced tea was made. You need to order your chips and salsa. Being a bar, not included. LOTS of tvs. Not many customers.

Yelp
It's been a while since my last visit Huge portions. One m Guys had the fish & chips they looked fire. I had the mushroom Swiss burger great service you don't have to ask for a refill Sports bar ambiance TV "s everywhere Overall !!!. a good experience.

Yelp
A few friends have come here before for ufc fights and other sporting events so we decided to join them to watch some football. The place is pretty big with lots of seating and plenty of tvs to watch all the different games. They offer a good selection of goods from appetizers to full plates! We ended up getting the lemon chicken which was a pretty big portion that satisfied the both of us. Not only was the portion good sized, but the food was delicious! The lemon sauce was very tasty- we probably should have asked for additional sauce on the side, maybe next time! Both the kitchen and bar staff were great- very friendly and made sure that we were well taken care of. We really enjoyed this place! One thing to note, parking here can get a bit competitive. There are quite a few businesses in the shopping plaza and during those popular game days, it would be wise to get there a bit early.

Yelp
"Roxy" is the reason that I have faith in my fellow human. Known the place for years and it's just the kinda place that serves a lot of great memories not to mention the food and atmosphere that comes with a neighborhood sports bar environment. It's that good! When the service remembers your order of drinks from 3 months ago and has you ready to go as you're walking in the door. That's the best service you can possibly ever get!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing place. Great environment and the best staff. Justine and Angel always take care of us. You can find an awesome environment and good food being vegan. A total plus!!

Yelp
Came here while waiting for our car to be serviced after it was recommended to us to try out. Spacious bar with plenty of seating. We needed to walk around the restaurant for a few minutes to be able to find someone to ask if we should just seat ourselves, which we did. We shared a trip tip sandwich and chicken wings. The value is good for the cost of the items, especially the sandwich. As for the taste, the chicken wings were just fine, the wings themselves were not crispy and the meat was rather chewy. I had the same thoughts for the trip tip sandwich. The tri tip itself was extremely chewy and it was hard for me to get through pieces. The one thing we did finish entirely was the fries which were crispy and delicious. I will definitely come back to this place for the sports bar atmosphere, but might just stick to drinks next time!

Yelp
12/27/23 Randomly came here for their wednesday prime rib deal and it was worth it for sure. They cut you a thick piece of steak and it comes with a baked potato (toppings are additional) and some broccoli. Service was pretty slow, had to hunt the waitress down a few times. The inside is very man cavey with TVs on every inch of the wall but surprisingly good prime rib

Yelp
Really good food for a great price and next to a strip club so that kind of throws it off a bit but you can see the girls from next door come in. I love the big chairs and the booth and great place to watch the games service here is always good and the food come out quick for a good price. Not sure of the happy hours but love me some good deals will go if I'm meeting up with the guys and used to go here 4 times a week when I worked in the area

Yelp
Been here twice. Each time for a sporting event. The first time was for a UFC PPV where they charged a 10 dollar entry fee and then the second time was for the NFL Playoffs where they didn't charge thank goodness. It wasn't terribly packed each time. But each time service felt very slow. It's a big spot. Could probably fit 200+ people here between the seating and the bar area. There's a low hum in the place. Definitely not noisy enough where you have to shout. I came when it felt about 80 percent full both times. The food isn't that good. I learned that the first where I had the wings, nachos, and French dip. I had some of my homeboy carne asada fries and his Philly cheese as well and it was underwhelming. So I ate before I came the second time and then munched on some Frings (French fries and crispy beer battered onion rings) just to soak up the beer we were drinking. The waitstaff was running around non stop it seemed like but had a smile on their face. I know it's a hard job. So I appreciate them trying their best and not taking it out on others. Their beers is pretty standard. Your typical modelo, red trolly, Elysian etc. There's a ton of TVs. Each wall has easily 4 or 5 on each one. The seats are generally comfortable. There's a mixture of high tops and low tops and booth seating. It's a 3 star place because the food is mediocre at best. And so that brings it down from what could potentially be a 4 star place. I couldn't imagine coming here if you're not watching sports.

Ryan M.

Yelp
Ambiance is cool. A lot of Tvs. Waiters are nice. But the food was HORRIBLE. And that sucks because I came here after reading the good food reviews. I ordered steak. The mashed potatoes were brown. Never ever seen that. I tasted it and it was AWFUL. Veggies had a bad taste to it. Steak had no flavor and had this burn taste and even a taste as if it was reheated. 2 stars. I actually got food poisoning from this. I went on Friday. I threw up horrible the day after and this morning.

Yelp
The Bullpen is My Favorite Sports Bar & Grill, they must have at least 100 TVs to watch Fights & Games, very Friendly & Attentive Staff and Great Food! Love their Prime Rib on Wednesday Nights, they have great NY Strip Steaks every night

Yelp
Service was horrible, Was out for late and decided to stop at cheetahs, but before that i made a pit stop here. The server came to us after we sat down, she then proceeded to tell us the kitchen was closed which is fine i was there for a drink. She asked what we wanted to drink i asked for a mojito and she tells me we have everything except a mojito because we don't have the mint leaves what else do you want; mind you I'm just out for the night to have a good time so i proceed to tell her " WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND I AM OPENED TO ANY KIND OF DRINK" (when i would work a job as well i was at least told to say our most popular drink ) This girl said well that doesn't help , well sorry lady I'm just out to grab a drink without my kids. Well we ordered margaritas and a shot because she couldn't think of anything and she didn't even bring us a napkin. Total was like $38 for 2 margaritas and 2 shots

Yelp
My husband and I were finding a sports bar close enough to our house to watch NCAA basketball. Bullpen popped up and we decided to give it a try! Upon seeing our North Carolina Jersey, the host immediately led us to a nice corner of the restaurant and put on the game for us which was awesome. We had the mushroom Swiss cheese burger and buffalo wings. Have we had better burgers and wings? Sure, but we really appreciate the service, accommodations and clean environment. The price range and portion size were decent. It seemed like there were a lot of frequent customers. Overall, we wanted to watch a game with decent food and that's what we got!

Yelp
Sports bar Many TVs Busy during prime rib and sports Shows all football games Shows ufc Other sports as well Wednesday is prime rib. Prime rib goes fast Loud environment Smoking section Don't seat near entrance if you hate smoke Typical bar food Friendly staff Drinking bar
google avatar

Han L.

Yelp
It's environment is much more of a bar than a restaurant. I don't know if it's obvious from the name, but just in case for future customers. The burgers were fine.

Linda Kastrup M.

Yelp
We love this place. The staff is friendly and efficient and the Prime Rib Wednesday deal is to die for. If you like a sports atmosphere combined with great food and drinks, this is your place.

Yelp
Best bar in San Diego with amazing bartenders Rose and Armando!! Kevin and Christian are always ensuring customer safety. Friendly bar that makes you feel welcome every time you enter. Food is always on spot here from prime rib to pizza. Drinks pouring all night with friendly servers Stephanie, Nicole, Paulina, and numerous others. Open daily where Monday, Thursday, and Sunday football, as well as Saturday UFC is always fun!
google avatar

Kristopher M.

Yelp
Not kid friendly as they claim. Tried going to a UFC fight and it is 21 years of age only. Tried contacting the owner via yelp and instead of contacting me back to fix any issues being broadcasted to the public "someone" in the community had reported me and had my question removed. The food there honestly sucks, barely any flavor. The bar drinks are the only good thing. The bar staff know how to treat the customers when it comes to pouring. Place is always dingy and dirty, looks like it hasn't been dusted in forever. The person answering the phone seemed she didn't want to address any issues and had low customer service. One time when I had my food brought, waitress took forever to come check in on us, or to bring us our check. Wish there was another bar next to Cheetahs instead, maybe one day.
google avatar

Treavor H.

Yelp
Great sports bar with great vibe Really wanted to order the 50 piece bacon plate but it was just me and my wife and not enough time
google avatar

Vinetia J.

Yelp
The service here is always nice and pleasant. If you enjoy watching sports this a a great place to go. The food is amazing and always enjoy trying something new. The restaurant is bigger than it appears and is a great place for dinner or to hang out with friends.

Jimmy G.

Yelp
I have been visiting this spot for years. Still love it! Parking blows, but I love walking in and being served by a great staff. If you haven't been, go. You will not regret it. Food is good, staff is very attentive, the drinks and beer never disappoint.
google avatar

Matthew S.

Yelp
We went here to watch a UFC event on a Saturday night. The place was very busy and they initially told us there was only standing room available. We found this perfectly reasonable as we showed up right when the main event was starting and other more dedicated fans arrived far earlier than us. We proceeded to order drinks and stand behind the bar while we viewed the various TVs. The manager noticed us standing there and approached us to ask if we would like to sit down. He then took us to a table that had another customer sitting there. We very much appreciated this as it allowed us to have a nice meal while we watched the fights. The manager could have let us remain standing, but he went out of his way to find us a place where the other customer didn't mind if we joined them. We will likely come back to watch more UFC fights here.

Yelp
Most impressed with my Wednesday night Prime Rib dinner!! So I heard about the Wednesday night dinner through a Facebook group a Facebook group SD foodies.. The original poster sent a photo of the prime dinner and called it a steel. I had to see for myself, Holy Moly!! To say I was impressed would be an understatement. The prime rib was large, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The meal came with broccoli and a fully loaded potato. Drinks, salad, appetizers, soups, and dessert are not included; however, the meal is enough!! The slab of meat is so succulent with its rosemary crust. This place is a gem and my family and I were very impressed
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
This place is solid when you want to run in and grab a beer off Clairemont. The bartenders and waitress are always attentive. Plenty of tv's with music videos or fights/games depends on what's on. Super chill spot, never gotten crazy when I have been here. Stays open till 2am so if you're looking for a late night spot swing by here.

Korey W.

Yelp
For a "divey" bar, this spot is where it's at! The FOOD here is better than a lot of high end restaurants. The staff are great and very attentive. They have plenty of TVs and show all the games for all sports, Boxing, UFC, MMA, NBA, MLS, NFL...everything. Check it out!

Juan D.

Yelp
Showed up hungry . Got fast and efficient service . Owner Kevin stopped by touched table . Manager also stopped and made sure we were taken care of . Food was amazing . Will definitely comeback !!!!!!! Thank you for the hospitality.
google avatar

Janay H.

Yelp
The prime rib was Devine. Every bite was juicy and full of flavor. The Calamari was nice and crispy and a little sprite of lemon juice pumped up the flavor. The prime rib came with a baked potato and broccolini. I'm not a fan of baked potatoes so I can't rate that and the broccolini was basic. The potato skins were surprisingly delicious. Again, I'm not a fan, but those I would have again. The music was great the whole time I was there and the vibe overall was chill. The service was meh, but that doesn't take away from the overall experience. Also, there was a little confusion about the way the prime rib was cooked, but it was rectified.
google avatar

Isaiah K.

Yelp
I've been going to prime rib night almost every week for the last year, and I've never been disappointed more than tonight. The prime rib tonight wasn't even half of the size that it normally is. The bartenders and wait staff are amazing as always and deserve a five star review, but for a special night, the prime rib is no longer special and not even worth the increased price to $26. Will be asking to see the size beforehand or I won't order it anymore.

Yelp
I've visited Bullpen Bar & Grill on multiple occasions and I was surprised that I had not reviewed the joint before last night's visit. A bunch of close friends and I visited Bullpen to watch an Aztecs game years back where I thought their dessert was yummy and our customer service from our waitress was really good. For this visit, we invited our niece's husband, who was visiting from Australia, to join us because he too was an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fan like my brother-in-law, nephew, and myself. This was the first time we were catching a UFC pay-per-view event at Bullpen Bar & Grill. After our enjoyable UFC experience, this won't be our last time getting our UFC on. Bullpen is located off of Clairemont Mesa Blvd heading west off of the 163 or east off of the 805 freeways. The sports bar is located in an outdoor strip mall where Daiso, Turner Outdoorsman, Menya Ultra, and Cheetah's are located. There are plenty of parking spots in this strip mall, but it can get crowded due to the popular eateries and shops in this center. For this UFC event here at Bullpen, there was a $10 cover charge. As I was about to walk inside the restaurant, this tatted, athletic, and Caucasian bouncer blocked me from entering by touching me saying that there was a cover. Note to management, you probably should remind this bouncer that he shouldn't be putting hands on people because some patrons might not take too kindly to his actions. After paying the cover, I entered Bullpen and sat down at a table where I had the best view of the UFC fight that was going on and could clearly hear the sound. There is plenty of seating and there are an avalanche of televisions where you can watch UFC and a bunch of other sports. Our waitress, who was also from Australia, provided quality customer service and was friendly. I didn't think she checked on us as much as I would have liked. One thing that I've really enjoyed about Bullpen's menu is their diverse food offering. It's got an array of food for any type of diet. Prior to bringing my niece's husband to Bullpen, our entire family had spent lunchtime with our niece and her family, so we were still stuffed from lunch. If I wasn't so full, there were a great assortment of appetizers to choose from, entrées, steak and ribs, desserts, sandwiches, specialty burgers, salads, soups, eggs all day, pizza, and a kids menu. After waiting for a few hours to digest my lunch, I settled on ordering the Mushroom Bacon Swiss burger, which is a 1/2 lb 100% ground beef patty served with lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, and topped with swiss cheese, sautéed mushrooms, and bacon. This burger comes with your choice of either french fries, cole slaw, white rice, or brown rice. Bullpen is generous with its food portions. The burger was hearty, the toppings were bountiful, and this burger was tasty. The seasoned fries were cooked perfectly to a golden brown and they too were yummy. That was an enjoyable meal as I enjoyed some fisticuffs. Our first experience enjoying a UFC event at Bullpen was a fun time. For UFC fans like my family and I, this was a great restaurant to watch the UFC and we've watched UFC events at several local sports bars. My brother-in-law said that out of the four sports bars we've watched UFC events, Bullpen was the best one and had the best food choices. It just needs to tell the bouncer not to be on a power trip.

Yelp
If you google it says this is a hockey bar but it is not. Hardly any people there and we had the hockey game on for Stanley cup playoffs after asking where we could sit to make sure we could see the games. They set us up and then randomly changed the TVs and we missed major plays for no reason because there was hardly anyone there and tons of other TVs to play the other sports. Do not recommend for this reason. Don't label yourself a hockey bar and change the play off games.
google avatar

Paul S.

Yelp
Plenty of parking. Top rate sports bar.
google avatar

Bruno M.

Yelp
This place is a Kerny Mesa staple, amazing food, impeccable and courteous service and comfortable seating and environment. The Bullpen is surely one of my favorite restaurant for top quality food and drinks at very reasonable prices.
google avatar

Keri W.

Yelp
Came here for lunch while waiting for our car to be serviced. We just needed something quick and casual. This was a good choice. It is your typical sports bar with TVs on every wall. Our server was on it- she was attentive and nice. The food was OK. We ordered the potato skins which were good but I wish they were a bit crunchier. A few of them were soggy. I had the French dip. The au jus was good and there was plenty of meat on it. I asked for a side salad rather than fries and it was fine- iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and a cucumber. Their ranch was yummy. My husband got the chipotle chicken penne. He said it was good with a little kick. All in all it was fine for a quick lunch.
google avatar

Kevin W.

Yelp
Sopped in for lunch. Had the potato skins, French dip and Chicken penne pasta with Soviet chipotle cream sauce/garlic bread. Food was fantastic, service was extremely fast and friendly and the overall experience was great. Plenty of TVs to watch a variety of times. Full bar as well. Took one star off as the aesthetics are dated. Other than this, we will stop back by when in the area.
google avatar

Jewlz J.

Yelp
Service was not good if at all. I walked in and bartender/waitress basically told me they didn't have a menu and said they only had wings and some other item. Didn't offer me water or anything else. Ended up helping others that came in after me completely ignoring me when it was 4pm in afternoon and not busy. After waiting a bit, I ended up leaving. Maybe I would have ended ordering the wings and a beer if I wasn't completely ignored. Would not attempt to go here again. So rude!
google avatar

Adam R.

Yelp
Oh this place is amazing!! GREAT service! A lot of great food items. Prime rib on Wednesday!! Just an all around chill, fun spot with good service and food and a ton of TVs. Overall may be my fave bar in San Diego to chill and watch the football games
google avatar

Thomas W.

Yelp
Nice darkly lit bar/restaurant with cushy seats, gorgeous staff, great grub, and TVs 360. The dirty martinis are on point, the NY is a great value, and I've enjoyed loco moco, AYCE spaghetti, ahi tuna, tempera veggies, burgers, and even the protein plate. For me- it's a place to chill when I want to watch a couple games and get sauced up enough for a cigar next door. That's the vibe. Pizza is the bomb, too.
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were waiting for our spot to come up next door at SOT and he said let's go into BULLPEN as I haven't been here before. It's a great place to watch the games as they have so many big screens inside and out. They have a great range of drinks and food to choose from as well. They have inside and outside seating. We were able to sit outside and watch the games while having a drink and some good appetizers. If you just wanna hangout for a drink and or food try The Bullpen! The servers are great not pushy like some places!
google avatar

Nicholas G.

Yelp
This is a great place to come and take in a game. One of San Diego's best Sports Bars in my opinion. They've been around forever! It gets a lot of characters: Over the top sports fans, bar regulars, etc. I've always had a good time here. It's a lot of fun. I typically stick with beer, but they have a full bar. They have mastered the grill! All the food is awesome, I usually order a spread of their appetizers, their burgers are good. The staff have always been on point and keep the tables happy. I've never been left waiting too long for a drink or food coming from the kitchen. This is an incredible feat in my opinion, this place gets full on big game or fight nights. Parking can get tricky. They have a parking lot. There is also a lot of street parking. Like I wrote above, this place is fairly popular, some days are easier than others when it comes to parking.
google avatar

Gaby J.

Yelp
Let me preface this by saying that the food and service was great but the temperature of the room was unbearably hot and I was wearing a sleeveless dress. This happened a few weeks ago but it made the experience of watching the ufc fight and warriors game...miserable. Plus, it seemed that there were customers hogging up all the nice chairs. Overall, I would come back for the food but only if they turned on the ac. I would not come here in the summer. This is also a great substitute for a man cave as the waitresses are scantily clad and according to my husband, current dancers to the strip club next door. This is definitely a dude's bar with the male to female ratio 10:1 Parking: plenty of parking. Same plaza as daiso and menya ultra Suggestion: go before 5 pm on Saturday for good seats

Yelp
Two words FOOD POISONING not sure if it was the steak or shrimp, steak came out essentially raw when asked for medium, laid by the toilet all night first and only meal of that day.

Yelp
Food was good and it had a local bar atmosphere. I Would recommend if you are looking for a place to eat.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Service was excellent. Ambiance left a lot to be desired. Especially a very pregnant server wearing totally inappropriate apparel.

Yelp
I've passed this place so many times over the years but only recently visited for the first time to watch an out of network football game. They have dozens of TVs lining their walls and plenty of comfortable seating areas (tables, high tops, lounges, etc). They were showing two different football, one basketball, and one non-sports show when I went on a Sunday afternoon. They serve pretty decent bar food that is very reasonably priced, along with dive bar priced drinks. However service is kind of slow, but friendly. Overall this is a great place to post up for a casual afternoon of watching sports!
