All of the staff were welcoming and helpful. Everything we had to eat here was delicious. We had ham hocks, beef tips, spicy collards, fried okra, potato salad, cornbread, yams, banana pudding, and peach cobbler. ALL were so good. We will definitely be back next time we are in town!

I recently tried the peach cobbler from this restaurant, and unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience. This was my first time ordering from here, and based on the taste and appearance of the food, it will also be my last. The cobbler lacked flavor and looked unappetizing. My coworkers also ordered different items and shared similar dissatisfaction. Overall, I cannot recommend this place based on our experience.

Google
Delicious soul food! They got ham hocks, ox tails, pig feet, and necks! All the food was amazing, the ham hocks was fall off the bone. I thought a ham hocks would be rubbery. Parking lot is a bit small but I see locals eat here including government people. Must be good. One lady does it all!

Talking about a mouthgasm. Every bite had my eyes rolling and mouth watery🤤. Everyone that has ever been here before knows why it's a must visit if it's a person first time to Mississippi. LOVE IT HERE.

I have the most disappointing experience at this establishment. I am visiting town from Dallas, Texas, and the place was recommended by the the Marriott Westin hotel downtown. I took a few photographs in the establishment just because I was excited about the culture and was really thrilled about having some southern vegetables. A Jackson Mississippi police officer came to my table and asked me if I took photographs. I told him that I had taken some photographs, and if he appeared in any of my photographs, I will be happy to delete him. the officer was very rude and I finally asked him if he owned the establishment. That he did. I told him that he should post notices if no photographs are allowed, however, after reviewing reviews, there are many photographs of this establishment already posted. As an African-American male, I have realized that other African-American males treat each other poorly. Since the only establishment, I told him that I would not be eating there, left a $20 tip for the waiter, and left the establishment. After the encounter a Marshall, who was also eating there, came outside and talk to me. He asked me what the other officer said to me, and I told him he tried to get me to go back into this establishment. However, he ruined the experience. if he truly owns the restaurant, I don’t recommend this place to any out-of-town guest. I will also be notifying the Westin downtown that they should not recommend this establishment to any out-of-town guest as they might not be welcomed. I cannot rate their food as I would not eat at a establishment that I’m not welcome. I am unable to service poor excellent. How if the officer is the owner it is a really pathetic situation.I will post my pictures so hopefully the owner sees that his face is not in my pictures. He certainly is not photogenic.

I hadn't been to Bully's in awhile. It was like I remembered it. Small, cozy and a friendly atmosphere. The staff greeted everyone and were so nice! I had Lima beans, field peas, beef tips and rice, and peach cobbler for dessert! My food was great! I can't wait to go back and try the meatloaf. Thanks for a great meal and at a good price.

Google
Drove 6 hours to try this place after reading some reviews. Was absolutely the best fried chicken and sweet potatoe pie I have ever had!! Service was prompt and friendly. Laid back environment. Will definitely go again.

Google
I was on a road trip 6 years ago from Arizona and my family happened to stop here for lunch as we were looking for something local. We still talk about it to this day. The food was excellent and the people were so friendly and welcoming. I hope some day we can come back. It just showed up in my memories feed so I decided to write a review.

Yelp
Holy amazing. Excellent crispy fried chicken. Sweet potatoes are so delicious - basically dessert. Banana cream pie is to die for. Veggies are seasoned perfectly. Super friendly staff. Laid back atmosphere with lots of history on the walls. Will be back for some southern soul food!

Requel P.

Yelp
I was on a hunt for some good soulfood and this place was nearby. It had been around for years but this was my first visit. I ordered the oxtails, mac & cheese, & collard greens. The food was ok to me.

Yelp
BEST DOGGONE FOOD YOU'LL EAT . I PROMISE YOU!!!!!!!!! This place won't EVER disappoint. If you're looking for something to eat, something to try, just passing by, THIS IS THE PLACE YOU DO NOTTTTT want to pass up. This is the best food I have ever eaten. They better than your grandma, yo great aunt and yo favorite homemade cook. If you can't tell , the food is amazing, The service is great and you'll leave happy you spent the time here. This is the perfect "hole in the wall", secret place (that's not so secret). Well worth everything! - I ate turkey necks btw , double greens with corn bread (put it in the greens) , macaroni, fried corn , rice and gravy, yams , Lima beans , and black eyed peas . (Family of 5)

Yelp
The food was okay. The sweet potatoes were good, the pork chop was very tender literally fell apart with my plastic fork the Mac n cheese was okay not the best I ever had. I loved the sweet tea! The service was great southern service. The ambiance was just like someone's home. Wasn't bad it was nice to support a local business while passing through.

Cotrane P.

Yelp
The staff at Bully's made us feel welcomed the moment we walked in the door. This is a down home, your grandma opened a restaurant type spot. The food is fresh and hot and hit the spot just right- I had the fried fish; the rest in my party had the fried chicken. This place feels like a place where local politicians bring people if they want to show that they're part of the community. It's unpretentious, kind of dark, and just right for what it is.

Lorita S.

Yelp
I'm a longtime fan of bullies cooking. Visiting their several years ago I was disappointed with the size portions and misc charges on my final check. it wasn't the charge so much as the fact there was no prior notice that I would be charged. This visit was also filled with surprises on my check example $.75 charge twice for 2 cups of ice.The turkey wings weren't tasty however they were tender. The portion size was, questionable. Yams at bullies always fresh little water this particular day. The cornbread muffin was a disappointment. I've always been a bully fan. I just feel bad not being able to give them a good rating.

Harmonese P.

Yelp
I love going to Bully's when I'm in Jackson. When I lived in Brandon I would drive there almost every day for food. Everyone is so welcoming! This is a black owned restaurant, almost like your hole in the wall type restaurant w| the best food made w| love. 10/10 recommend!!

A'Drenna J.

Yelp
We enjoyed our meal at Bully's. The staff was pleasant and extremely friendly. The food was great with nice portion sizes. The ambiance was relaxed. It felt like being around family.

Benjamin M.

Yelp
Went to Jackson for work and I was told by everyone I have to stop at Bullys. After trying to find the place I was a little hesitant. But once I walked in I was greeted with wonderful service and the food was somthing I am not familiar with since we do not have a lot of soul food where I'm from. The cook make some recommendations and I was thrilled with it all. I am now hooked on soul food and will recommend this place to anyone.

Karol C.

Yelp
O...M...G!!! I just read that Yelpers have reported Bully's as CLOSED. I'm saddened. It was staple in the community for many years, as I was told.

Shirley P.

Yelp
My husband and I ended up in Jackson, MS on New Year's Day because our flight in New Orleans back home was cancelled, and we decided to drive back home instead. While I was driving to Jackson from New Orleans, my husband looked up soul food restaurants and found Bully's. We were excited to try this place and support a local family owned restaurant. The staff was really sweet, however it did take them a few times to figure out our order, but our order was accurate. The food was delicious. I ordered the beef tips and had both of my sides be their greens. My husband had their cornbread, their fried okra, Mac & cheese, and greens. We both inhaled our food because we were so hungry, and I had skipped lunch. We would totally come back again, and I'd recommend Bully's to anyone in the area looking for some authentic soul food in the area.

Sharon S.

Yelp
The truest definition of a hole-in-the-wall....but I happily frequent it every chance I get. Lately, I've been getting the veggie plate and cornbread. Y'all, let's start with the cornbread....it's literally my favorite! As a bread lover, I can ( and will) eat three muffins at a time! The tomato and okra stew has a hint of spice...now, sometimes that "hint" is a full blown drop kick and punch though but I just sweat through it because its truly delicious. The greens.....OH MY GOODNESS....I always get the "mixed" greens and they have never disappointed! Truthfully, all of the vegetables make me wanna sign up to be somebody's big momma and see if I can cook that well! The smothered chicken is also divine. I usually get two legs fried and they put their gravy over it. The fried fish is pretty good too! The seasonings are perfect, but if you're looking for real catfish, this isn't it...it's definitely Swai. My only complains are that the serving sizes have gotten smaller and smaller over the years and that one cornbread muffin is not included with the plate. BUT HEY...I'll continue to buy this kids meal container and pay $0.50 for cornbread.....because it's just THAT good!

Kayleigh H.

Yelp
Bully's is the best! I was in Jackson for a work trip and am so glad I stopped by. The chicken and collard greens were perfection.

Yelp
My go to when I don't feel like cooking. Soul food at its best. My favorite dish is everything on the menu. You always get a smile from the staff. There busy. there all of the time. You don't go there for the looks, you go for some serious eating.

Yolanda S.

Yelp
I had the spaghetti plate. The spaghetti was mostly sauce. I wished it was more spaghetti than sauce. But it was tasty. The yams were delicious. So we're the greens. The greens were the star of the show. They were absolutely delicious. My friend had the fried pork chop. I tasted a piece and the pork chop was delicious. It was crispy on the outside and very moist and tender on the inside and it was seasoned perfectly. The employees are all so friendly. I will return the next time I visit Jackson, MS. Most definitely.

Danielle P.

Yelp
Welp the reviews were right, the food was excellent!! My order in order was taken in a professional manner. Customer service was perfect, they made sure my food was correct before leaving restaurant. Inside seating for dining service if you wish. We had the catfish with greens, mac & cheese, fried okra, and corn bread. All the food was seasoned well. The food was delicious, fresh, and hot! I will visit again when Im in town. Best meal in Jax, MS!!

Kristina L.

Yelp
The food here was amazing! We got in at around 4, so a lot of stuff was sold out (which makes sense, since so much is made fresh), so I would recommend getting there earlier or ordering ahead. We had the catfish, fried chicken, baked chicken, okra and tomatoes, collard greens, mac and cheese, and green beans. All of it was well seasoned and fresh. The service was friendly and they communicated well. The food came out in about 25 minutes and was piping hot.

Andy P.

Yelp
Local shop that makes fantastic food. I was traveling visiting Jackson for vacation months back and I was recommended by the locals to try out this place.

Linda L.

Yelp
My hubby and I LOVE trying local restaurants and I was super excited to try this one out. We were running short on time so decided to order the catfish platter to go. When we pulled up around 1 pm, the parking lot was full! Then, a fire truck pulled behind us and a bunch of firemen got out to go inside to eat lunch. So I was elated and knew we hit the local jackpot! Needless to say, I was very disappointed. The prices on their FB page are way off as in it's almost doubled when you go in and order. But I was still okay with it. We decided to share the catfish platter and ordered fried green tomatoes and rutabaga as the sides. The pictures on Yelp of the catfish seemed like it would be a big serving. The cashiers were very nice and smiled at everybody who walked in. I really wanted the oxtails but seemed too hard to eat while in the car. Maybe next time! After about a 30 minute wait, we got our order. My hubby also ordered the lemonade because it seemed pretty popular. Apparently it's better to call it in so you don't have to wait that long. They weren't that busy in the restaurant but their phone was ringing nonstop. Okay, now to the food. I opened my box excitedly and was immediately disappointed. The catfish strips were TINY! I mean, we got 3 strips but there was no way I was getting full off of them. They were tasty though, just wish there was more. Maybe $9 is a good price for catfish? I burned my mouth pretty badly biting into a fried green tomato, it was pure grease/oil. They were definitely fresh out of the fryer but those things soaked up the oil like it's been sitting in it. The rutabaga was okay as well. The lemonade was all ice, filled to the brim with ice, we got two sips each before it was empty. I honestly felt like we got the short end of the stick. If we happen to pass through again, maybe I'll try the oxtails like I was going to do.

Brianna M.

Yelp
So, honest review here... I visited Bully's Restaurant after originally wanting to try a different soul food place but they happened to be closed on a SATURDAY... well, bad business move for them because I just may have had THE BEST FRIED CATFISH EVER here at Bully's. I ordered "to-go" and even after running a few errands on my way home, the catfish was still crunchy and fresh. Mac and cheese and yams were also honorable mentions. #supportblackownedbusinesses

Yelp
The definition of a small neighborhood place! Small parking lot, cars everywhere! Ordered at the counter (she was spraying everything with Lysol from the front door in -She said she liked keeping everything and everybody safe!). We came for catfish and it was fried and fresh after we ordered! Mac&Cheese good and creamy and very cheesy! I had the cooked cabbage - perfect!! He had the mashed potatoes and gravy and loved it all!!people were coming and going for carry-out the whole time we waited for our order! Great find -- they close at 6:00 though so get there early!

Jasmin M.

Yelp
Hands down best place for a home cooked meal! May I recommend the Lima beans topped with okra- delicious! Also all fried items are cooked to order.

Grant H.

Yelp
I've eaten a fair amount of soul food in my day, and Bully's has got to be one of, if not the, best soul food I've had. Not fancy or pretentious, just delicious.

Ebony J.

Yelp
Delicious soul food with many options. I love the turkey wings, ham hocks, collards, potato salad . It's a MUST

Donna E.

Yelp
What a remarkable, delicious, unexpected find! The fried chicken is unbelievably crispy and juicy, the collard greens expertly prepared and the sweet potatoes just the right amount of sweetness! Bully himself is a treasure- a kind and engaging person. Everything was freshly prepared, and the prices are very reasonable! Don't miss it!

Andrea A.

Yelp
This place is a great place to go by oneself or with a couple of people. The food is very outstanding, so delicious you can loose yourself to it. The staff are very sweet and down to earth. And their place was very clean and organized.5 stars

D'Von A.

Yelp
This place gets 5 stars for such an outstanding afternoon of food and service . I am a native Mississippian, and sometimes I forget how friendly Mississippians can be. From the moment we walked in, my guests and I felt like family . Miss Jackie was our server and she was so down to earth and attentive. The food is delicious . I would suggest they be a little more generous with the sides, but they give hearty portions of meat. A nice hole in the wall with a down home look and feel. Don't miss out! Amazing !!!!

Ice K.

Yelp
Family oriented! Good fool for the soul. Would give five stars but need to upgrade building. Muah

Yelp
I'm giving this a 3.5. I was in Jackson for a short visit and a friend referred us to eat here because we were looking for authentic Southern style Mississippi eats. Bully's was also listed in the Visit Jackson! tourist guide. We had little experience on what to expect in Jackson and just followed the GPS to the destination. The area is about 15 minutes from the main city attractions and I'm still not sure if the area is considered safe or not. It is definitely very local. The restaurant has a hometown down to earth feel and the experience couldn't be more Southern. At least three of staff members, including the owner went out of their way to greet us. We appreciated the Southern hospitality. As for the food... Our food was served within 15 minutes. The ribs were good, but for my style, I prefer not having it smothered with sauce. For my next experience, I would order the bbq sauce on the side. If you want a really local experience and nothing fancy, this place is a good choice. It is a family business and everyone that comes through seems to be a regular. A lot of people were taking their food out, so I don't believe this place gets too busy to be seated right away. We did notice another couple dine in as we were leaving and it was quite obvious that they were tourists too.

Lorelei O.

Yelp
Best food & service!!! Always!!!! The chicken & dressing is my favorite along with the baked chicken & fried corn

Roma S.

Yelp
Finally found real soul food. If you are craving good old southern comfort food, Bully's the place. It's off the beaten path but well worth the trip As soon as you enter the door you are welcomed with open arms and treated like family. Ms Sandra treated us so well. And Mr Tyrone came out to see and check up on us to make sure we were doing ok We were more than ok. My daughter and ordered the smothered oxtails but ordered different sides. I had the spicy collared greens and the fried green tomatoes. For her sides daughter ordered the Mac and cheese and fried corn. The oxtail meat t just fell of them bones. There was nothing left on our plates other than the bones. And the sides were just as good. We used the fried green tomatoes to sop up all the smothered gravy goodness. I'm surprised that no one really mentions the oxtails in their reviews because by far they are the best we've ever had. Other folks in our party also were stupidly full after their meal of ham hocks and beef tips with rice. We all were all in need of a nap after our feast Ms Sandra from her experienced knew from the get go that no one can put another bite into their belly afterwards so she had our banana bread pudding and peach cobbler to go. And oh my later that night we had it with our evening coffee and again were reminded what good soul food is all about.

Barbara R.

Yelp
This restaurant took us back in time. We were so glad we stopped in to meet the owners who are the cutest couple. They work hard. The food was tasty. I recommend the Mac and cheese, yams and banana pudding..

Robert H.

Yelp
Wow! What a a great lunch. I decided to try Bully's and holy cow was it good. I got the fried chicken and yams and Mac and cheese along with the fried green tomatoes at the waiters recommendation. Every bite was great. The cornbread was exceptional as well. The staff could not have been friendlier and more welcoming to us as well. We also brought home an order of banana pudding that was yummy. Bully's is how soul food is supposed to be done.

Alivia T.

Yelp
Bully's The atmosphere is not why you come to Bully's, but the homely charm is always present. Everyone is cousin! Food is amazing. I had the veggie plate. Collards, Lima beans, dressing, okra/tomatoes, cornbread, and peach cobbler. Everything was seasoned perfectly. Kreskin had the fried chicken, string beans, and fried green tomatoes. Talking with Mr Bully and his family was great. This is an absolute staple in our community, and for good reason. If you haven't been to the award winning Bully's, I don't know what you are waiting on. Get there!

Josh K.

Yelp
Best BBQ and Soul food!! My girlfriend and I popped in on the drive from Memphis to New Orleans and we were blown away. Tender ribs in the most incredible sauce, unbelievable fried catfish, and all of the sides were amazing, especially the collards, yams and cornbread. The Bully family is the BEST- the true embodiment of Southern Hospitality. DO NOT miss this place if you're in the area!

Jason C.

Yelp
Amazing place to eat. The customer service was great and very friendly great food!!! Must try in Jackson!!

Avery F.

Yelp
We hit the soul food mother lode at Bully's in Jackson, MS. I'm a sucker for good meatloaf and had no disappointment here. The Spicy Collard Greens were the best I've ever had. Nate had the catfish and Marlette had the veggie plate. The service was superb. This place is a keeper.

Amira J.

Yelp
i'm here back at it again! seriously this food does not disappoint. i got the smothered oxtails with gravy, a side of mac n cheese + yams. bomb y'all bomb this food gets you stuffed n full (ITIS in full effect) its a little hole in the wall restaurant so it may look a little abandoned on the outside but the hospitality, & host are really sweet! will definitely be supporting this restaurant more as i spend more time in jackson.

Nakia G.

Yelp
Still great food but they've increased the price and definitely decreased the serving size.

Wil T.

Yelp
JUST WOW !!! Best soul food I have ever had, hands down. I'm from the Midwest, where the soul food is severely lacking, and now realize I've never had a proper collard green till this place. Fried chicken was outstanding. Friendly and heart felt service. Can't speak highly enough of this place !!!

Travis C.

Yelp
Serious down south real home cookin here! I'm not playin and neither is the food. If you are lookin for some real food that makes you wanna slap yo momma then come here. My momma came with me and almost slapped me first. Listen Linda! If you pass this place up you just won't know what you're missing. I wish I could try every dish all at the same time. This place needs to be on the food network. Come on down to get some real love from Sandra D. And the family at Bully's.

Shannah H.

Yelp
Many years ago I read about Bully's in Garden and Gun magazine (think Southern Living back when Southern Living was good). If sounded intriguing so I bookmarked it to try if we ever found ourselves in Jaxson, MS. Turns out we passed through Jackson 4 times in the first 3 months of 2020. Perfect time to stop! Like any amazing local joint, Bully's is tucked into a part of town that's seen better days. It's also a small unassuming building, so you need to know where you're going and be prepared for a crowded parking lot. Inside you'll find some of the best soul food you've ever had. Tender chicken, greens with flavorful pot likker, juicy meatloaf - everything we tried was amazing. We also grabbed a piece of sweet potato pie to go - !!!! Wish we'd gotten 2 pieces because sharing wasn't fun. Anyway, I'd go back to Bully's anytime and would definitely plan a trip opportunity to Jackson to make it happen.

Matthew L.

Yelp
Southern hospitality at the best. I came here after work and dropped by to order some food to go. Portions are big, and the friendly smiles from those who work here are just as big. I told the people who worked here that I was visiting from California, and everyone welcomed me to their restaurant and to Jackson. This never happens in California, so I definitely felt treated well here, even as a visitor! I ordered the catfish dinner - which was $7, included two sides -- I ordered the fried corn and fried okra. The food was delectable and fresh. All fried items are fried at point of order, so you will never be disappointed. The catfish was...crispy, well seasoned, tasty, and moist inside. Similarly, I was surprised when I opened my to-go box that all the fried items were wrapped in parchment paper. This was definitely the smart thing to do since the hot fried items wouldn't eat through the styrofoam. The catfish seemed to be a fairly popular item since a lady came in after me to also order the catfish dinner. I definitely wasn't disappointed. The portions were very large, that I couldn't eat the entire dinner in one sitting -- I had to save the rest for the next day (which, when baked in the oven still tasted just as good as when I ate my first bite). There were a lot of other choices for different meats, like oxtail and ribs, but I decided to play it safe with the fried catfish. If I'm ever in the Jackson area again, I'll definitely be back here to try the other dishes. With all the warm hospitality, I felt like I was at home (which is thousands of miles away). 5 Stars for great quality food, great hospitality, and great value.

Catherine L.

Yelp
Their food is amazing and always on point especially the yams dressing and oxtails! They have great drinks and dessert the cakes are soft fresh and very moist

Kayla H.

Yelp
Food is good, portions are small, the lady that works there has a really bad attitude and went to jail. When I did support this place I always good the chicken tetrazzini

James B.

Yelp
Holy cow, what an experience. The staff are as sweet as honey. The food was just amazing. I had the red beans an rice with spicy collard greens and fried okra. Every bite was just perfect. My son had the fried chicken (fried when you order it), mashed potatoes, and Mac and cheese. He says it is the best he has ever eaten. Just awesome all around

Carl S.

Yelp
The service is only surpassed by the taste of the food. I always enjoy my meals from Bully's and the great service that is provided by the staff. It is a small establishment with outstanding value for the food they provide.

Doug W.

Yelp
This is an authentic Southern food experience. This neighborhood might make some feel uncomfortable and I hate to say it but we were the only folks of our color here. Didn't bother us a hoot. Everyone made us feel welcome and asked us back again. We made an extra effort to show our appreciation and love and it came right back. I had fried chicken, greens, yams and corn bread. All excellent. All of it. I wouldn't change any of it. They were out of the famed blackberry cobbler so I enjoyed the peach instead. People here in Jackson are lucky.

Derek D.

Yelp
If you want (cueing Guy Fieri) the real-deal Southern soul food this is place. I've eaten all over the South from the Carolinas to Texas, and Bully's is one of the most authentic and best examples of meat-and-sides, stick to your ribs and good for your soul grub. We got there on the early lunch side (11:30) and had our picks of tables, but don't wait too long, parking lot was packed by noon. Our waitress was the nicest lady, Sandra Dee, who was chatty during the whole lunch. They have lunch plates (with two sides) for $6.50 (a killer deal) as well as daily specials. I was eyeing the pork chops which come either smothered or fried. I asked Sandra Dee which do you prefer, and she told me "why don't you get them fried and then we can smother with gravy?" My kind of answer. For sides went with the field peas, spicy collard greens and cornbread. My wife went with the fried chicken, dark. Food arrived on school cafeteria trays and I was excited. Two large chops sat in front of me glistening in brown gravy. I dug in and they were fantastic. I was worried for the price they would be small or tough; nope. They were quite large and still juicy, not that they needed to be from the gravy which was definitely from scratch. The breading was great too; peppery and didn't fall off like a lot of fried pork chops. Sides were out of this world, homemade as well. Field peas (similar to black eyed peas) were perfectly cooked with some ham; collards were stand out as well. They had some kick, but I still added some Louisiana Hot Pepper Vinegar. And of course mopped up the pot likker with the cornbread. I did grab a bite of my wife's fried chicken...and I know what I'm ordering next. It honestly was one of the better fried chickens I've had. Not greasy, chicken was juicy, and the breading just perfect. The cooks here know what they are doing with the fryer. So from the friendly service (everyone from the cashier to the owner were wishing us a happy new year), price, and honest solid Southern food, this is what you have been looking for in the South. Highly recommended.
