Bun Intended's pork belly bun is one of my top 5 bites in Asheville! I'd heard good things and finally had the opportunity to try it. We got a pork belly bun ($9) upgraded to a plate with a large scoop of jasmine rice and tangle of spicy green papaya salad (+ $3). The bun was perfectly on point: large, soft, and fluffy bun, crispy and tender pork belly with a fantastic savory teriyaki-esque red plum BBQ glaze, pickled carrots, cucumber, radish, and cilantro. Perfection. And they were kind enough to cut it in half without asking since we were sharing.
Sides were pretty good. Jasmine rice was fresh and strewn with scallions. The papaya salad was a little one-note and bland, honestly. A squeeze of lime juice and scatter of chopped peanuts would go a LONG way to giving it more flavor than just "spicy." But it was nice to have a salad option (Asian slaw is another choice available).
IMNSHO prices are about $2-3 too high, but with the overall quality and execution being so high, I'll still return. Also jazzed to try their weekend brunch pop-up at the Scarlet Bee!
