Google
Great menu. The food is awesome and the service is too. The staff was so appreciative that we chose them. We went back to compliment them after we ate, and each staff member that heard us looked up from their work and acknowledged. We could feel the love of food!! Would definitely revisit next time in Asheville.

Google
Ordered a ton of different items so we could get a feel for the menu. Food looked good. The PORK BELLY and grilled chicken BAO were unfortunately way too bready with the baos not being plaiable to hold the contents of the bao that everything kept falling out. We ended up eating the insides and tossing most of the bao. The pork belly being a slight better texture than the grilled chicken. The SALAPAO was a stuffed bun with shredded pork. Nice presentation- but again a bit too bready with not much of the pork filling inside. Would have been better it the pork had a bit more moisture to it with hoisin or something. The SPICY CURRY BOWLS ( chicken and pork) were quite decent and packed a good flavor profile with the coconut milk and spices. The spicy som tum- green papaya salad- was quite decent. The pork skewers were ok. As was the Thai tea with rum. Overall disappointment with the baos as that was what we were most interested in enjoying.

Google
Food that looks good but disappoints. It seems like there is no quality/ taste control in place in the kitchen. The pork bao was as salty as the sea. The thai curry was so spicy that it felt like the spice box fell in. The broccoli bao, the grilled chicken that came with the thai curry and the thai coffee were edible but that’s about it.

Google
Located at the rear of the food hall on the ground floor. Cute spot with some interesting options, I went for the pork bun & a Thai tea! I was sad they were out of their Thai coffee as I was told it’s homemade freshly brewed daily. Overall the tea had a pretty good taste, reminded me of the sachets I use from my local Asian grocer. The bao could’ve used maybe bigger pieces of pork or just more pork. Not bad for the price.

Google
I ordered the coconut braised pork bun and the grilled chicken “build your own bowl” with the spicy Thai sauce. The coconut braised pork was okay. The meat didn’t have a lot of flavors to it but the bun was good (it wasn’t soggy). The grilled chicken bowl was good when you eat it all together especially with the spicy Thai sauce. The grilled chicken alone tasted like it had a lot of cumin and reminded me a lot of Indian food. If I had to rate the sauce by itself, I would give it a five star - it was spicier than most sauce I order from other places and it tasted great!

Doran B.

Google
If possible I would probably rate this at 3.5 stars. The server was very pleasant and helpful and it is located in a nice little food court. It did seem to have the most foot traffic in the court as well which is a good sign. I was just a bit disappointed with the food. It was alright but if you really like Thai food it didn’t taste that authentic. The flavors were pretty basic I felt. My chicken bowl was also really salty which made it not as enjoyable.

Google
Excellent spot with great service. The rice bowl was great. Fair warning - the hot sauce is actually hot. If you enjoy a little forehead sweat, it's the sauce for you. Otherwise, the other sauce (peanut?) is the one for you.

Google
We love food halls, so when I found out one opened in Asheville, we made sure to stop on our most recent trip. We love Asian cuisines, so this food stall was a natural stop for us. We got the Pork Belly Bao and Larb Gai. I really enjoyed both dishes. The bao bun was much bigger and thicker than any other bao bun I've ever had. The pork belly was crispy which I wasn't expecting, but it was really good. If you're at the S&W Market, I'd definitely recommend checking out this stall!

Yelp
This hit the spot. I ordered the fried rice with pork belly, Thai tea, and also a pork belly bao bun. Perfection. The spice in the fried rice was just right too! Overall I would recommend and if I was in town I would be stopping here again! Plus they parked right out by the outdoor seating at the new Belgium brewery. Super convenient!

Yelp
WOW. I don't even know what to say. This meal was beyond all expectations. I have been dying to try Bun Intended for years but have never found myself in Asheville. All I can say is I WISH I lived closer because I would be at this truck every week. The customer service was A+ along with the food. I cannot sing enough praises about these guys. The pork belly bao was my favorite. It was sweet with a great tingle. The Thai tea was delicious.

Yelp
My wife and I went to Asheville for our anniversary. We ended up heading to s&w cafeteria at the recommendation of a sales specialist at the Lululemon. We chose this place and we are so glad. Flavor was good, the soy ginger was strong and that meant we didn't have to waste a lot of it on the bowl. Also use the cucumber like a biscuit. lol will be back

Zoe W.

Yelp
The tofu and veggie bowl was one of the best meals I've had in a while. Jacob took my order today, and the service was great :) The portion size was also very impressive for the price.

Yelp
A decent bun that can scratch that itch if you have it. $8 per bun seemed on the expensive side for what it is, given you'd probably pay less at a stand-alone restaurant for the same thing. Although it's probably still less expensive than a standard sandwich for lunch. Service was a little slow. My fried chicken bun was adequate with a few thin strips of chicken atop some cucumbers, cilantro and hoisin sauce. Not bad.

Yelp
Bun Intended's pork belly bun is one of my top 5 bites in Asheville! I'd heard good things and finally had the opportunity to try it. We got a pork belly bun ($9) upgraded to a plate with a large scoop of jasmine rice and tangle of spicy green papaya salad (+ $3). The bun was perfectly on point: large, soft, and fluffy bun, crispy and tender pork belly with a fantastic savory teriyaki-esque red plum BBQ glaze, pickled carrots, cucumber, radish, and cilantro. Perfection. And they were kind enough to cut it in half without asking since we were sharing. Sides were pretty good. Jasmine rice was fresh and strewn with scallions. The papaya salad was a little one-note and bland, honestly. A squeeze of lime juice and scatter of chopped peanuts would go a LONG way to giving it more flavor than just "spicy." But it was nice to have a salad option (Asian slaw is another choice available). IMNSHO prices are about $2-3 too high, but with the overall quality and execution being so high, I'll still return. Also jazzed to try their weekend brunch pop-up at the Scarlet Bee!

Yelp
Absolutely spectacular service, and the food was amazing. A wonderful find buried in all the super-expensive Asheville shops.

Yelp
This place has really great food! Lots of fresh veggies and light, yummy meals.

Yelp
Friendly folks and delicious Thai food -- it doesn't get better than this! After just one bite of Bun Intended's Pork Salapao Bao, I was hooked. The bun is tender and fluffy, and the filling super flavorful. My friend LOVES the Pork Belly Bao. We split the Chicken & Rice bowl, and we were set. Track down this wonderful food truck for a bite, or have them cater your next event! So tasty!

Kyra P.

Yelp
Bao is one of my favorite foods and after 6 months in Asheville I'm so happy to find people that do it right. Pork belly was soo good and my friend loved the chicken + rice bowl!

Yelp
We came across this food truck after doing a tour at new Belgium as it was in the parking lot. I was pretty excited because I love bao buns, but was pretty disappointed with the meal. The bun had a consistency of hamburger bun which in my experience hasn't been what I've had in the past. I had the pork and it was unbelievably salty, almost to a point of being inedible. The sauce had a good flavor, and the pork was cooked well which were the redeeming qualities.

Yelp
Went to Asheville for the Fourth of July festivities and was intrigued when I came across this food truck downtown. I am so glad that I did. I had the pork tenderloin bao. The meat was so tender that it practically didn't even require chewing. The asian slaw was the perfect snap against the softest bun ever. I don't really know how to describe the bun because it is not like bread. Sorry I cannot do better justice but trust me when I say that you need to try it. I was asking one of the truck's team about it and he told me that they make it fresh daily where many restaurants buy it frozen. We also tried the Thai Iced Tea. It was a bit too sweet for me. It was a great end to the meal but I was done after a few sips. I will definitely be visiting this food truck again if I can find it during my next trip to Asheville.

Yelp
Vegan friendly! Caught them st New Belgium. Amazing. Parang curry bowl is fantastic. Please try them. I haven't had anything this good at a fixed restaurant!! It is spicy tho!

Yelp
Bun Intended was parked at Highland Brewery last Sat ( Dec 10). my husband and I ordered our food. two young women came up after us and ordered their food. their food came out before ours and when I inquired they said that our pork took longer. well, we saw them put the pork on as we inquired. something is not right with the service and there was barely pork on our pork plate. poor food, poor service and they probably liked to us.

Yelp
Now I'ma start off by sayin' I'm not one to try food trucks. I find that most of them charge too much for too little, but I tell you wut. This lil truck is the needle in the gosh darn hay stack. The goose with the golden eggs. I'm not saying they're selling magic beans, but dag nabit, there is something up this bean stalk, Jack. The boys and girls on this truck did right by me and you're darn tootin' they'll do right by you too, I'm not just cryin' wolf. No matter what you get, the portions are perfect, the food delectable, and the price is just right. Keep doin' your thing bun intended.... Keep doin' your thing. #SpyceIzLyfe

Yelp
Chicken Boa is amazing! Curry Fries and Chicken bowls are great but make sure to have a cold beer nearby to wash down the spice. The fluffy rice Boa bun is light and delicious. Some would say bland but for me the texture is perfect and lack of flavor in the bun is a great contrast to the medium heat sauce and chicken seasoning! Staff is friendly and quick with service...typical wait time I've experienced is 6 - 10 minutes after placing an order. This may be extended if you are say, at a busy AVL brewery during peak dining hours and all day Saturday and Sunday!

Yelp
This review is based off of the Chicken Bao and the Watermelon Red Curry Bowl. The chicken boa was good, I really have no complaints, except that it was very small for a large price. If it was an exceptional dish I would understand, but it was just acceptable in regards to taste. I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. As for the red curry bowl, it was awful. It was basically the opposite of the Chicken Bao, in that it was larger but tasted bad. The only way to describe it is that it tasted like extremely spicy water. I would give this dish 1 out of 5 stars. Especially considering that you are paying $11 for tasteless rice and chicken dish.

Yelp
Delicious. Paired with great beer from New Belgium brewery, this place is a match made in heaven. Their Pork Bun was amazing and their slaw had the perfect amount of spice. I wish this place was opened near me. 10/10 would recommend.

Yelp
This food truck has some pretty awesome food! I got the pork bao and it was soooo good. The Thai tea was also extremely yummy.

Yelp
Love Bun Intended! I either get food from their food truck or the spot in the S&W building. Never disappoints! Keep up the good work friends!

Yelp
My favorite food truck in Asheville!! The food is authentic and the staff is incredibly quick and kind. Definitely check them out if you get a chance

Yelp
Just had our first Thai food from Bun Intended, & we will do it again! The food was yummy & our server was so helpful! Really liked the Asian slaw, & the Thai Iced tea was good as well.

Yelp
I can't say enough great things about this place!! Their food is fresh and authentic! Real Thai food in Asheville?!? Who would've thought? Having vacationed in Thailand for weeks, I've had my share of amazing Thai food. This place is no exception! The aroma, the spices and the freshness of the food will keep me coming back anytime I'm in Asheville! They have great gluten free options too! Yay!!
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Asheville's best food truck last year, I hear? No surprise! My pork bao was delicious!
google avatar

Alex K.

Yelp
I've got to be honest here. I believe with all my heart that this is one of the best food trucks in America. I've traveled throughout majority of the United States, and currently reside in Chicago (one of the major food cities of the world). I would eat from this food truck weekly if I had the option. They have completely captured Bao in all its glory. To add to it, they also provide amazing gluten-free and vegan options for folks with dietary restrictions. I promise you will be extremely satisfied if you stop by with them. Great staff, great food, and quick service to boot!

Yelp
Very accommodating to special diets & food allergies!!! Delicious, authentic Thai food. Can't wait to eat again.

Yelp
We have been wanting to try this highly rated food truck for some time. We finally tried our first bao at New Belgium's Tour de Fat. It was very flavorful , especially with the spicy Prik Nam sauce. Can't wait to try the other items on the menu!

Grace V.

Yelp
We came across the truck outside the brewery and ordered chicken and pork bao. They were absolutely delicious . The only thing we wished were for some cutlery and napkins .
google avatar

Chad R.

Yelp
Had this at a small beer festival. The pork belly bun with the blueberry hoisin is so freaking bomb. I definitely could have had like 3 more.

Yelp
Thanks for all you do! Love your food. It's all delicious. I have nothing bad to say. Get the salapao bun. It'll change your life forever.

Lyon P.

Yelp
Bun Intended is definitely a food truck worth searching Asheville for. Their food is awesome! I ordered quite a few things off their menu and was not disappointed by any of it. The pork belly buns is one of my favorite things on their menu. Pair the buns with the papaya salad and it'll be something you won't forget. But as a thai/lao person I knew something was missing from the papaya salad and not everyone is very fond of that ingredient. Don't get me wrong, the papaya salad is still good but it could've been better. Their chicken dishes were cooked to perfection. Chicken sate was seasoned and cooked to make any thai person have mini flashbacks of their childhood. The chicken spring rolls were huge and delicious. I dipped it with a different sauce every bite and it was great every single time. Last but not least, the salapao. They gave me a classic steamed salapao and a FRIED salapao. Both were amazing and were the first things I finished. I got a special "hot hot sauce" with it and they went so well together. The sweetness from the fried bun and spiciness of the sauce balanced each other very well. Classic steamed salapaos are always a go to for me. I love them for their sweetness in the breading and the delicous, tender pork inside. So if you ever see this food truck parked at your local gas station, food park, festival, or anywhere make sure to stop by and try out their unique dishes. I guarantee you'll love atleast a few things they offer.

Yelp
We booked Bun Intended to serve food at a private event after another truck cancelled on us. I was absolutely amazed at how great the communication was and level of customer service we received on such short notice. The entire staff was awesome. All of our guests loved the food and the lines were quick the entire time as they served our 250 guests. I highly recommend them for any event you may have.

Yelp
Had been wanting to try this place for a while. One night was excited to go to New Belgium where they were until 8p to get dinner to bring home. Got there at 7:45 and they were closed. So tonight they were at Wedge and I double checked just to make sure. Food was ok. We got one chicken bao and one steak and up plated one with rice and papaya to share. In fairness it was cold out and we got it to go, so it was kinda cold. I must say that $9 and $10 for the bao... it was very pricey. Basically you are paying $9 for a taco you can get at White Duck for $3.75. Just keeping it real. The rice was very flavorful and the papaya salad was strong with fish sauce... just a warning. The Bao's are on a flat biscuit like pastry. Pretty good but def not worth the $$$ . The two bao's were $22 plus tip. Would maybe try it again but wouldn't go out of my way again to make it happen. You can go to almost any restaurant for this price and get served.

Ryan B.

Yelp
Did not enjoy this truck, food was bland but sawces were good. I would recomend the sweet and spicy sawce. However the fish sawce made my finger smell like my night in Bangkok #booty. In all seriousness this place was kind of boring.

Giulio B.

Yelp
Awesome food truck, fresh ingredients, great selection of sauces for their buns, super friendly folks. Highly recommended!

Tony W.

Yelp
Great food and service! Frien chicken special was excellent. Looking forward to returning again soon!

Joy H.

Yelp
We stumbled upon Bun Intended at New Belgium Brewing, and it was awesome. Way better than Thai food we've had downtown Asheville (and much better priced). The curry was so similar to what we ate in Thailand, and the guys who run it seemed super nice, too. Definitely try the Thai tea... Perfect for someone at a brewery who isn't into beer (me) and still wants a fun drink.

Shai P.

Yelp
Visiting from Los Angeles and found this food truck at the New Belgium brewery. Incredible Thai food! Felt more like a restaurant on wheels. Highly recommend to anyone in Asheville!

Lynda S.

Yelp
Just had a fabulous experience at Bun Intended! The green curry rice bowl had just the right amount of heat and full of flavor . The chicken and veggie wrap was awesome, excellent presentation and super fresh! My new favorite food truck in AVL!

Elle D.

Yelp
Staff was unfriendly, food wasn't great either (got the veggie bao w tofu). Sauce was spoiled.
