The Best Mexico City Coffee Shops For Getting Work Done

"Even if you don’t have a ton of work to do, Buna La Tostadora is worth a visit for the space alone. It’s inside an old textile factory that’s been repurposed into office and studio spaces, and the location of the cafe also doubles as its roasting plant. Buna’s proximity to artist studios draws a creative crowd, and their unusual open terrace, abundance of seating options, and nice, strong coffee create an ideal work environment, especially if you have to work through a 50-item to-do list. Limited seating. Not enough dairy free options and upright service. A very unlikely cafe review for one at a beautiful setting in CDMX. The barista was probably overworked. Anyway, we didn't think much of the coffee, a real shame. I hope you enjoy it!

Mazdak Jafarian

Google
Cozy café with a lush outdoor setting and smooth, delicious coffee. An ideal spot to relax! However, service can be a bit slow, with cappuccinos sometimes taking over 15 minutes. It seems the ordering process could benefit from a little more organization.

Amazing coffee and vibes! My flat white with oat milk and almond croissant were both exceptional.

Google
As a passionate coffee enthusiast, I made it a point to explore many cafés while in CDMX, always ordering my go-to drink a flat white, which I find to be the perfect benchmark for comparing coffee quality across shops. Buna came highly recommended by local baristas, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. It quickly became my favorite coffee spot in the city. The space is small and cozy, with only outdoor seating, which adds to its charm. Their flat white was perfectly dialed in smooth, balanced, and expertly crafted. And the almond croissant? Quite honestly, the best pastry I’ve ever had flaky, rich, and unforgettable. I highly recommend Buna to anyone who appreciates quality coffee and well-executed simplicity. It’s a standout in a city full of excellent options.

Google
You know its good coffee when a local roaster opens a coffee shop, Buna as a brand is doing an amazing job at selecting and roasting some of the best Mexican coffees and now you can try them at their own coffee shop, its small and simple, straight to the point: great coffee every time

Google
Buna cafe was awesome! Great coffee and great service! Very attentive and welcoming! Buna cafe si es Rico!

Google
My favorite coffee place in Roma Norte. Guys are super friendly, know what you like if you come often enough. The almond Croissant is the best in the city (trust me, I tried a lot of them). Too loud for work as tables are only outside, but its still great

Google
loved this place for coffee! very quaint and friendly (english speaking) baristas! there is a 15€ upcharge for non-dairy milk! there is a bathroom and GOOD WORKING wifi! I’m pretty sure they also sell beans here (might have to go back and get some!)

Yelp
Limited seating, but an outdoor view of the streets to people watch. We got iced Americano and a flat white, the flat white was the best out of all the coffee shops we tried. Quick service as well.

Yelp
This place was on my list so made the trek out to try it. The coffee shop shares its space with a restaurant. There is only seating outside. We were lucky the rain did not start yet. Flat white (65 mxn) - a decent flat white. Latte (65 mxn) - creamy and more milky than the lattes I've had. I was a little disappointed given how many people rave about this place.
google avatar

Benjamin B.

Yelp
Cute space with a nice amount of outdoor seating, lots of greenery all around and a fairly quiet street in the morning. The cafe itself is espresso focused although they have a drip coffee I didn't try. Flat white was extremely milky/creamy, arguably to its detriment as I was hoping for the coffee itself to come out a bit stronger. Foam was a bit dry as well. Service was at least very pleasant and welcoming, even for English speakers but not a cafe that I need to make my way back to again.

Yelp
Solid coffee, small shop but there are tables outside. The coffee was tasty, although they only offer macadamia nut milk as alternative to cow. Espresso was nice and smooth, great taste.

Yelp
This place came heavily recommended by a friend who grew up in CDMX, so my girlfriend and I thought we'd check it out when we went on a stroll. It's a small shop, but super quaint and has a nice outdoor seating arrangement. My girlfriend wasn't too sure what to order (I went with my standard cappuccino), so I randomly said the cafechata sounded interesting. Funny enough she absolutely loved her drink and there were times I thought about stealing her drink. The barista was also super kind to us. We had just landed 12 hrs before coming here, so it was one of the first places I had to test out my fading Spanish skills. Yet she was extremely patient and explained the drinks to us. I'll definitely come back here next time I'm in town.

Yelp
We were just in Mexico City for a week, and we stayed just on the Plaza Rio de Janeiro. There are a lot of options for coffee in the area, and Buna was one of the ones we tried! My to go americano was good, and the service was really nice. The inside of the tiny little coffeeshop is really cool and modern, and there are some wonderful seats outside on the sidewalk that looked like a great place to relax with a coffee for a bit if I hadn't been on my way out for a day of exploring the city. Definitely a place I'd stop again for coffees to go or to enjoy outside when I'm next in Mexico City.

Yelp
The 8oz americano here is fantastic. I wanted to visit other coffee places in the area but had to come back here a few more times because the coffee tastes so amazing. The almond croissant is also delicious. It has some kind of custard inside instead of almond paste, so that's a bit disappointing yet the custard tastes very good so I can't fault that decision. It's better than any of several pastries I got nearby at Panaderia Rosetta (not saying Rosetta's are bad, just that this almond croissant was even better). The baristas are nice and understand inglés. If you get it aqui they tell you to sit and they'll bring your order, so you pay later. One of the times I was here, the place next door was cleaning their section of the parklet patio with a power washer and sprayed us all with water and soap foam, so watch out for that. Also beware that a to-go cup is something like 10 or 12 oz, so your americano will be watered down compared to the porcelain cup you get if you sit. Once I handed them a 12oz travel mug for a to-go americano, and they filled it to the top with water instead of the proper amount for two shots of espresso.

Yelp
Buna is a solid coffee shop near the Plaza Rio de Janiero where you can find some decent beans with complex flavors and a nice relaxing outdoor seating area that has a view of the nearby fountain. Staff is friendly and speak English well.
google avatar

Austin G.

Yelp
Buna is one of many little coffee shops in Roma Norte. The inside is tiny, but there are two areas of outdoor seating in the front. Order at the barista counter. They have a full coffee menu, pastries, a croissant sandwich, and beans for sale. My latte was among the best I've had in CDMX. My daughter's banana bread and my croissant sandwich with arugula, tomatoes, and cheese were decent. They have water in glasses that is filtered and okay to drink.
google avatar

Tricia K.

Yelp
Sour mocha served in a paper cup, even though I was sitting at an outside table. (There was no one else on the patio, so it isn't like they needed the table.) When I told the barista that the drink was sour, she claimed it was bitter from the dark chocolate. There's a distinct difference between sour and bitter: 100% this was sour. The espresso had likely gone off - especially as other reviewers mention it normally being high-quality. Atmosphere was nice with outdoor seating in a lovely, leafy part of Roma Norte, but there's no shortage of great coffeeshops in the area - for my peso, I'll try elsewhere next time. Note: This review is for the café, I didn't order any food from the restaurant.

Yelp
The best pastry and cappuccino with macadamia milk. The simplicity of it is what made it so good - such high quality ingredients and well made. I was craving this throughout my trip!

Moacy T.

Yelp
Great place Buna in (Laguna) if you wanna drink coffee and work. They have great Internet and great aesthetics. There are also green places if you wanna sit and enjoy the environment. The waitresses are lovely and are always asking you if you need anything else.
google avatar

Yelp
Loooooved everything about this little gem! It's a cute coffee spot with a nice outdoor patio. The macadamia nut milk is a game changer and elevated the flat white - as did the palm sugar they have! The barista was super friendly and knowledgeable and the service was insanely quick. Best coffee I've had to date in CDMX (I've been to 10+ spots) and I'm definitely going to come back here to try more + pastries. I also bought a bar of their dark chocolate but wasn't very impressed.

Yelp
Great little coffee shop in the Colonia Roma neighborhood. I love their custom roasts and brought a lovely light roast back to California with me so I could savor the flavor a little bit longer, the girl at the counter recommended her favorite, Tun-Daja, which had a bright acidity and crisp tree fruit notes. I wish I would have brought a few more bags home. I've already ground and used most of the beans in my French Press. Guess I'll have to make another trip soon to stock up!

Yelp
Minimalist third wave cafe sharing a space with Sartoria restaurant located across from Plaza Rio De Janeiro (a small park). There is no seating available inside as the shop is simply a counter to order, but there is seating available on the patio/sidewalk. I was lucky enough to enjoy a performance of three musicians while enjoying my latte. For any vegans, lactose intolerant, or simply dairy adverse patrons there is macadamia milk available. They are a certified B Corp and work with Mexican agriculture producers to obtain the coffee.
google avatar

Mannie S.

Yelp
Outstanding coffee with reasonable price! But the restaurant part is a bit over priced in my opinion. Wish they had a seperated space for the coffee shop.
google avatar

Jorge R.

Yelp
Pretty cool place. Saw it on yelp as Sartoria. Came for the avocado smash but they were out of avocados. We had chilaquiles instead. Coffee is great. That's we're the place gets its name. Great place for brunch and then taking a walk at Tio de Janeiro to see the David!
google avatar

Camly T.

Yelp
This was a great little coffee shop right near the Plaza de Rio de Janeiro. There's only seating outside. It's connected to a restaurant. The pastries were on point and coffee was good. Will have to come again!
google avatar

Eitaro H.

Yelp
If you want real espresso, this is the place. Had the cappuccino which was smooth and strong. Staff were super friendly, and spoke some English, which was a plus (my Spanish being so-so). Also tried some good: the assorted fruits and chilaquiles verdes with a fried egg. And! The "roca de chocolate"'is a MUST TRY. A nice chill spot perfect for a slow paced day.
google avatar

Ron W.

Yelp
Best pour over cup of Jose :) Also had a delicious almond milk latte. Staff is fabulous. They are serious about building a community around richly made coffee, sustainable agriculture. Just steps from Plaza de Rio de Janeiro, so you can stay in their beautifully designed cafe or take it to go. Pastries look delicious too!
google avatar

Abby H.

Yelp
The coffee is sooo good, and it has wonderful outdoor seating too. A great place to site and get some work done.
google avatar

Jannifer K.

Yelp
The macadamia milk latte I had here IS the best thing since sliced bread. It's been a couple weeks since my trip to CDMX and I still dream of sipping on that delicious latte on Buna's patio while people watching. If you're looking for quality coffee and a relaxed atmosphere, look no further.

Yelp

Yelp
The espresso was great, I also had a con leche that was really good too. I love how the espresso machine is below the counter and you only see a little of the machine above the counter. I loved the food. I had chilaquiles rojo with pork. The sauce was just a little spicy and tangy and amazing!
google avatar

Lizbeth F.

Yelp
The food and environment is so cute and upscale ! We ordered chilaquiles verde! The only down side is that they take a while to bring out the food.
google avatar

Gamaliel E.

Yelp
I came here a couple of times on a recent trip to Mexico City for a proper cup of coffee. I found that ordering at the counter and sitting down was faster than waiting to be served. The mocha was really good, and not too sweet. I ordered the huevos rancheros, and my wife ordered the chilaquilles. We both enjoyed her dish more, since the huevos racheros weren't spicy enough for us. The presentation was really nice though. The church just up the block is really nice if you want to take a peek at it prior to grabbing a cup of coffee.

Yelp
This place, like everywhere in the Roma/Condesa area, needs more reviews. Buna has all the elements to make it one of the best coffee joints in town. There's minimalist decor, pour over carafes, odd ball drinks. Surmise to say that it's an awesome place to get a mid evening pick-me up. I went for the Cafe Americano since I'm a sucker for pour over coffee. The pour over + a few sips of my girlfriend's shakerato made for a perfect jolt before going out on the town. All of the coffee is El RICO brand (from Costa Rica I believe) which means it has a dark roasty flavor with some floral hints. You can also buy some beans in the store to take home if you want. I wanted to try the food but they seem to only have food for breakfast and brunch. I'll have to stop by for breakfast next time, but the coffee here is definitely a must.
google avatar

Ivette G.

Yelp
This place is great! Walked all the way from condesa to get coffee here. The ambiance is great and the coffee is actually strong. I would definitely recommend.
google avatar

Ling S.

Yelp
Great place to grab a coffee! We needed a little boost to continue exploring CDMX. This cute coffee shop located in Condesa/Roma neighborhood. Staff is friendly and helpful to decided what type of coffee beans fit personal preferences. Didn't get to try the food, but it looked delicious.
google avatar

helen d.

Yelp
Great coffee spot! Had the shakerato and it was a pleasant surprise. Not your traditional iced coffee but it was definitely worth a try. Also ordered the chilaquiles and enchilada here for breakfast. Both dishes took a while but I guess that's a sign that they were made to order. Overall great experience and would definitely hit up this little neighborhood gem again when I'm in town.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious coffee in Mexico City. Mexico is killing the specialty coffee game! Definitely recomended.
google avatar

Fernanda S.

Yelp
Buna is usually a nice coffee shop, and you can probably find all kinds of methods you would want for you coffee but I came here for a special tasting dinner offered by the chef. It was 5-course menu. We started with tacos de chapulines, which is a local delicacy but not very appreciated by foreigners. I wouldn't say I love chapulines (grasshopper) but to be honest I believe it tastes like chili powder and salt. Second course was an onion soup , very delicious. Up next we had mushroom risotto and as a main course we could choose between chicken or fish. The whole menu was quite interesting with yummy combinations that only used locally selected products. I was not a big fan of the dessert (creme brulee with balsamic vinegar) but other than that it was a great time. I finished my meal I had a double espresso cortado and it was definitely among the best I had in the city. The ambience is clean and appropriate to study or work. Looking forward to my next visit.

Yelp
Third wave coffee in DF! Buna 42 is a cute coffee shop reminiscent of those found in the Bay Area. My husband ordered a cafechata, which is a blend of cold brew and horchata, while I got a cold brew with almond milk. Both drinks were 50 pesos each (~$3 USD) and were really tasty. You can tell that they know what they're doing here, measuring the water for pour overs and offering some great hard to find coffee drinks.
google avatar

Rennie L.

Yelp
They ran out of soy milk so they gave me macadamia nut milk! They have some kind of ancient recipe bread. Super hipster.
google avatar

Britt Q.

Yelp
Delicious pour over coffee! We had pour over cold brew on a hot afternoon. Patio by the plaza is nice for reading and people watching.
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
I ordered the mushroom omelette (with basalmic vinegar)-filling but light, as opposed to the usual offerings here in Mexico City. Service depends on the individual waiter(one was externally uncomfortable upon realizing that I can barely speak Spanish), but was attentive enough, overall. Great place to sit and people watch.
google avatar

Jenny B.

Yelp
Love love love Buna. What a great and unique concept. All the people that work there really take the quality and experience seriously. The menu has so many great unique options that you can't find anywhere else, like coffee and horchata mix, and different versions of affogatos (coffee and ice cream). The pricing is around the same as Starbucks but the quality is vastly superior and I like the atmosphere more too. There is outdoor seating and free wifi and breakfast options if you want to brunch. The salad I had was incredible too (which is normally not how I would describe any salad). Definitely give this place a try.

Christine N.

Yelp
Being coffee snobs traveling to CDMX, the mecca of coffee. Buna was highly suggested and we made a stop here. Buna was thus far the best coffee we had in CDMX. Our friends who traveled with us approved of this spot as well. We enjoyed our cup of joe outside in front of Buna while people watching. Perfect touch! We ended up buying 4 bags of coffee beans to bring back to America.

Matt K.

Yelp
Delicious. Chilaquiles was the best I've ever had. The mandarin juice was a nice accompaniment. My wife said her French toast was amazing. Also a pretty 12 minute walk from the 4 points Hotel.
google avatar

Chris O.

Yelp
Buna 42 used to be amazing. Focused on stellar coffee and espresso, Buna 42 was once the epitome of exemplary coffee. In the 16 months since last visit, Buna 42 morphed into something else. The lattes were wet, dull, and ugly. They looked and tasted like something out of a Nescafé machine at a cheap hotel chain. Disappointed. I give it two stars because at least the remodel is attractive (it was gorgeous before). There are significantly better alternatives at this point.

Peter Z.

Yelp
Mexico City has many great cafes but Buna ranks at the top. They roast their own coffee. Our barista patiently explained each of the beans they offered. Made a cup of coffee as and two lattes as good or better than you can get anyplace in the world. Great side walk seating. Across from a beautiful well shaded neighborhood park in the Roma neighborhood. Friendly locals. Highly recommend.

Valerie A.

Yelp
Wow, haven't had brunch this good in the city in a while. Excellent food, clean place, cool ambiance, many cafe choices! Definitely recommend it!
google avatar

Kotryna L.

Yelp
I have to admit, i am a coffee snob and this place makes me happy every time! One of the best coffee places in the city. Cappuccino is sublime
google avatar

Luke T.

Yelp
The fruit plate was the first I've had here that included mango - not your typical watermelon/canteloupe/papaya. Although you kind of pay for it with it's unusually high price. Buna 42 also takes a very creative approach standard Mexican fare such as the omelette and the mole tacos. I enjoyed the fresh take of seasonings and vegetables, but don't expect a traditional recipe. The service is hit or miss. Our waiter was slow but kind, but the barista was a little off-putting.
google avatar

Adam P.

Yelp
Awesome coffee, great cafe food and super fast wifi. Really great place for hanging out, getting online, eating some tasty food and drinking great coffee. Not bad prices either when considering the standard.
google avatar

Allie A.

Yelp
Excellent lunch and coffee; I hung out there to work on a project for a few hours at a cute table on the street. It has a great vibe and an ideal setting to work or hang with friends. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Raúl M.

Yelp
I can only speak a about coffee, but it was really good. I will be definitely coming back soon to try some pour over this time
google avatar

Melissa S.

Yelp
Wish we'd discovered it sooner! This place has amazing food and coffee. I had the cafechata, a cold brew and horchata hybrid that is a religious experience. Ended up buying beans to bring home.
