Best Gay Bars in Washington, D.C. According to Eater Editors | Eater DC

"Currently D.C.’s only LGBTQ nightclub, located on the bustling corner of 14th and U Streets NW. Bunker features underground entertainment, live DJs, transportive decor, “pulsating beats, dazzling lighting, and laser displays,” and plays everything from pop and house to tech house, disco, circuit, and Latin music. Look out for the masked David-esque statue by the back bar and behind the cage. Check out its World Pride schedule online." - Evan Caplan

The U Street Corridor Finally Has a Gay Club Again | Eater DC

"Once the city’s largest gay dance club, Town Danceboutique closed in 2018 after an 11-year run to make way for upscale apartments, and I learned there are plans to one day resurrect a ‘Town 2.0’ in a former church in NoMa." - Evan Caplan

It’s great that this space exists! Definitely on the smaller and more crowded side, but that’s not always a bad thing! Lines for drink and coat check can be long but the drag shows are fantastic and there’s a fun, friendly, outgoing crowd. Kind of a weird dynamic with the happy hour and cover- you get a ton of people arriving early to avoid the cover so the place is full while it’s still pretty early in the night. Hopefully they can figure out a way to get folks dancing a bit earlier too! Coat check line is a big issue they desperately need to figure out as well.

Today I went here. I travel all over the world. I have never had this problem. The first time I went it was great, fun and impressive. This time the security guard did not let me in and said that the shop was closing but let other people in. When I asked again, he said that my female friend was drunk when in fact she was not drunk and asked to keep the cash herself and had to go down to pay the entrance fee again. I feel that it is not fair to the people who come in. I do not know why or because I am a foreigner. I am happy to pay if I pay the shop but he wanted to take the cash himself. But the first time was no problem. Please consider the security guard because he is destroying your reputation. I will definitely not come back here and will tell my friends that this place is not as good as they think. I will make a video to tell everyone if I do not receive an apology. I am so disappointed

Had a great experience. Loved the club. Service was amazing. Very crowded but expected that. I will return. I recommend this gay bar.

Came here for World Pride, and for the $25 cash cover each, it was not worth it. There were many other clubs in the area with free cover that played better music & had more space for dancing. The club was super tight, poorly ventilated, and the music was the same basic EDM/club beat. The bouncers also weren’t helpful, and didn’t answer any of our questions before we entered. Wouldn’t recommend or come here again.

Run of the mill mixed gender queer dance club. Aimed at younger audience. One level. Decently sized (all gender) bathroom - which made me feel a little uncomfortable because women were hanging around the urinals with mirrors…. Relatively small dance floor. Access elevator/ structure pillar take up a large part of the floor plan :( a bit of a sidenote… The location offers nicotine vending machine. But there are no outdoor seating. There’s a back wall where people are smoking. They are electronic cigarettes. However!

Went to see the Willam performance. The vibe was on point and the atmosphere was very upbeat. There was someone overly drunk and spitting on the ground. When security was informed they immediately took action. I felt comfortable and safe. Prices were a bit higher, but that’s to be expected in DC.

Bartender was extremely rude. Skipped over multiple times and mocked by them while waiting to order. 20$ cover for 2 small, cramped rooms and poor service.

I came around 10pm on a Saturday night. There was no line to get in and cover was $20. The bar line was not long at all so I was able to get drinks quickly. The bartender was very kind and enthusiastic! The DJ was good and I enjoyed the lights as well. I love a crowded dance floor so I was happy with this place. The crowd itself was pleasant as well.

Yelp
FALSE ADVERTISEMENT and ANTI-LQBTQ+ during WORLD PRIDE! My spouse and I made the walk from Green Lantern to Bunker and arrived around 11:30 PM, expecting to enjoy the venue as advertised. Unfortunately, we were denied entry because they were "cleaning and preparing" for an event that didn't begin until 1 PM the next day. This was especially frustrating given that their online promotion clearly stated "No Cover until 12 AM," and their hours indicated they'd be open until 1 AM. It's deeply disappointing to see this kind of misleading promotion--especially during World Pride, a time that should be about inclusion and celebration. Experiences like this can feel exclusionary and disrespectful to the LGBTQ+ community. We hope the venue takes this feedback seriously and makes efforts to be clearer, more inclusive, and more respectful in the future.

Yelp
This club concept is mind blowing. I had so much fun and was fascinated with all the art around the club. The service was great, bartenders are very attentive and friendly. The music was great, there wasn't a single moment where I didn't dance at all. If you like to go wild, this is definitely the place to party at.

Yelp
Watch your tabs at this establishment, LGBTQ community. I was sober and got my friend a beer and myself a cranberry soda water and the total was $16 and I tipped 3 dollars. I was charged fraudulently for $30. Management was notified via email and they replied a week letter stating they would respond and investigate and never heard back from them. I know it's not much money but watch your bank accounts. This place is a disgrace and takes advantage of folks that are patronizing customers.

Yelp
Visiting the area from NJ/NYC and writing this while I'm still here. I was told to come here by a bartender at another local bar if I wanted to keep the party going late. Came through and my god, what an absolutely divine place. For context, it's a Sunday night and somehow this place is still going on strong and hard. I usually HATE remixes of classic songs, but DJ Popperz here figured out a way to give me the best remixes of Britney's "Toxic" and Whitney's rendition of "I'm Every Woman" that I've ever heard. If locations with music so loud that you can't have conversations are not your thing, obviously this isn't your place. If you're looking for a ridiculously good time? BUNKER is the spot!

Yelp
DJ Glenn is overrated, not impressed with him at all. Very rude. The place overall is fine but need to get rid of Glenn

Yelp
Many many thanks to the Bunker's manager who Spent lots of time to found our bag since we lost its tag number at coat checking last night.

Yelp
Love the space (All things considering since space can be limited in the city). Love the rotation of different themes and djs each week. It definitely feels like a bunker that's underground.. my only wish is that they should offer WiFi because Verizon doesn't get cellular service in there.

Marcus S.

Yelp
Music isn't the best, I would hope there's a better EDM gay scene in DC but it's always the same house/opening DJ and they aren't the best or know how to get the crowd going. The headliners are a mixed batch, but nothing to rave about from the several times I've been there. DC needs more queer dancing spaces like NYC has, but this besides flash and 9:30 club (which aren't gay) are the only options.

Jasenko S.

Yelp
Great space but for f&@$s sake wtf is wrong w the DC EDM scene? Same crappy overplayed mashups. The space deserves much better music...there's sooo much of it it's almost as if the goal is NOT to play any. Friday night felt like a 90's middle school dance got hijacked by a "cool mom" from Woodbridge who gets her steps in every day.

Yelp
unprofessional if you going to run a nightclub know how to deal with drunk talkist people and it wasn't the bouncer or the line lady but there higher up whoever that is after my people was waiting to Get in to pay the overcharges fee of 40 to skip and 20 to get in some lady came n told us we couldn't get in- just to know I'm the sober one n just happen
