Bunsen – Christchurch, New Zealand - Gastro Obscura

"The Brunson Cafe is truly unique for its ambience. This little eatery is located in an old clock tower crafted in an 1877 gothic revival style. The building is most famous for being a chemistry den during the 19th-century, where skills in science and math were mastered. History truly lines the walls of this cafe, displays of antique medical equipment are featured throughout the restaurant. The menu is also chemistry themed. Know Before You Go Hours of operation: Monday to Friday-8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday & Sunday-9 a.m. to 4 p.m." - feuerkatze78, Michael Reinhardt, lizjw

Luckily, we found this place at The Art Center, not far from the city center. Feel warm and cozy, so great to relax and enjoy coffee and food. In addition, the cafe is family and dog friendly. if you like to take a great pictures, there are many vibe spots available. This is one of the best cafe in Christchurch, you shouldn’t miss.

Great cafe with a lot of seats. Nice and warm inside when it's a bit cold out. Staff are friendly, food is good. Looks nice but isn't too over the top either.

Lovely old building and location with an odd anatomy theme, but unfortunately the food and quality didn't match. Coffee was ok but not hot, food was tasteless and plate was impossible to eat off with the vast quantity of food, no butter on toast and had to ask for serviettes. Quantity, not quality in a nutshell.

A cool looking place, has plenty of potential if the coffee didnt taste burnt and the cake dry. Shame the service was sub standard too. They were unenthusiastic and unfriendly. No one smiled the whole time. I felt like an unwelcomed guest. The food in the cabinet looked dry. It was only 1pm. I had to get 3 lots of cream to make the cake palatable. Even then the cream was in a can, hardly creamy.

Fantastic science themed restaraunt for quality food and great restoration of the Victorian architecture of the former University of Canterbury. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked and the staff were lovely! The only issue is the considerably slow service and efficiency of the staff. We had to wait a long time for the food and there was no staff memeber to greet us upon arrival. However, this should improve as they iron out the initial issues :)

An outstanding lunch, served by lovely people. Gorgeous tomato soup with a liberal helping of parmesan. Great coffee. A delicious lunch in the winter sun.

Delicious, nice and hot coffee. However, just one remark- the cappuccino did not have enough froth (although a beautiful latte art shown) and please put a lot more chocolate on top 😉. The french toast with berries and the lemon tart were divine.

Tasty nachos and loved the fact that Bunsen has a vegan option for these! Cute location outside the arts Center. Also very funky toilets, can you figure out how to work the sink?!
