Buonanotte Garibaldi

"How did it strike you on arrival?Hotels seem passé the minute you wander through the wrought-iron gates into Buonanotte Garibaldi, a peaceful art-studio converted in to a bed and breakfast for inquisitive travelers. There’s a vine-strewn garden, for starters, or the front room, with plush velvet lounges for sinking down upon, or the piano in the corner, music stacked high beside it. It’s basically an Italian-style riad, the perfect place to let your days drift by, lounging on one of the outdoor armchairs, or perhaps chatting to lovely hotel manager David over plates of croissants and piping hot espresso. Nice. What’s the crowd like?Buonanotte Garibaldi is boho paradise, so expect to see posh hippies, or style mavens after something exotic in the Eternal City. Pack your kaftans and espadrilles if you want to fit in. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. The Tinto Room has been decorated by Buonanotte Garibaldi’s owner, watercolor artist Luisa Longo, and there are plenty of pleasing artistic touches throughout, like the 1800s-era Italian costume paintings covering one wall. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?The bedroom's comfortable and unique—the silk cream and sage duvet cover, for example, is handmade, and the carved wooden headboards are anything but ordinary. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Wi-Fi is free and fast, even in the garden. Room service: Worth it?There’s nothing as common as room service here; instead, take advantage of the Testaccio address and nip into any of the buzzy osterias in the area. Ask David for a recommendation at breakfast. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? Our only criticism is that the bathrooms are a little small, but you’ll soon move past that minor irritation. Instead, head into the courtyard—where there are pleasing design touches in every nook and cranny—and treat the whole place like your own." - Maresa Manara

Buonanotte Garibaldi, Trastevere, Rome, Italy - Explore & Book

"Buonanotte Garibaldi feels like you’ve been invited to stay at an artist’s mansion. Designer and artist Luisa Longo’s beautiful 1960s villa is set around a terracotta-paved courtyard that’s filled with orange and tangerine trees and shaded by magnolia. There are only three guest rooms: stylish, sophisticated and full of works of art. In reception, a petal-like silk top adorns a tailor’s dummy and there’s a floor-to-ceiling organza painting pressed between plexiglass. The luxurious sitting room has three sets of tall French windows, edged by long pale-silk curtains. There’s a piano, two long sofas, rich rugs on the floor, paintings, and sculptures. Beautiful art books pack several long bookshelves. Here you can sit and read, and be served with drinks and homemade biscuits by the smiling staff. As for Trastevere, it's Rome’s most charming district, all ochre-and-orange 17th-century buildings, tangled ivy, narrow cobbled lanes and inspiring piazzas. You're midway between the Vatican and the Colosseum (20-30 minutes' walk from either), and just 15 from Piazza Navona and the Pantheon on the opposite bank. Highs A real Italian gem, with beauty, style and tranquillity in equal measures, plus it's perfectly located in Trastevere, near the sights but away from the tourist hordesBeautiful and elegant rooms, with an intimate atmosphere and lots of attention to detailGorgeous sitting room with art books and artworksThe chance to visit Luisa Longo’s atelier and buy her workWe loved the Italian buffet breakfast (particularly the Parma ham and homemade cakes) - an unusual and delightful surprise in Rome! Lows Rome Room's smaller bathroom lacks a tubPin-drop peaceful, so if you want a lively hotel stay, look elsewhereRates may increase significantly based on availability or at peak times" - Abigail Blasi

What a charming B&B in the heart of Trastevere (but tucked away from all the noise!!) -- amazing stay while in Rome! We were so close to the historic center and so close to the best restaurants in town. Breakfast was great, the rooms were well designed and comfy and the courtyard was a perfect place to relax in the morning! Would definitely stay again - fyi best to book directly with the owner!

This was truly one of the best experiences we have ever had. |We normally stay at suites at luxury hotels, but this simply took our breath away.|Entering the atrium garden from the street, embraces you with a welcome tranquility after spending time in the beautiful but also busy and noisy Rome.. |Greeted by the house dog Noah, a sweet small terrier, makes you immediately feel at home. The house is beautifully and tastefully decorated and has a welcoming ambiance. The Owner Luisa and the always present and very helpful Nalin made our stay perfect. The rooms are VERY nice and the room called Rome has a large private terrace, that just made our stay so relaxing and romantic.

5 Star experience across the board at buananotte. First, the check-in experience/overall communication was as good as it gets. The location is perfect. Right in the best part of rome, trastevere, yet the grounds offers a great peaceful oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of the neighborhood. The morning breakfast was so delicious and thoughtfully crafted. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and tastefully designed. Lastly, I can’t speak highly enough of Nalin, who was there to make us breakfast, tend to our room and provide good vibes & good conversation whenever our paths crossed. I recommend this place to anyone coming to Rome! Ps - Noa, their dog, is an angel!

Great little hidden oasis, with the morning sun appearing in the garden with your breakfast. The rooms are dark, a little claustrophobic with the only window/door being the one you enter the room, but they are fine nonetheless. Just be careful of the dog, it bites and does not like children! Edited 7.8.2025 to respond to owner: Well, hello! Yes, I stayed in March 2022 — the booking was most likely under my husband’s name, which may be why you can’t find it. As for the rooms, we saw several open to the courtyard with the same layout and lighting, so my comment was based on that. You’re right I didn’t see the upstairs rooms, so I can’t speak for those. Regarding the dog… instead of outright denying the experience, it might be more appropriate to acknowledge that not all guest interactions are the same. The dog did bite our 1-year-old daughter when she and I were petting the dog and we did mention this to a member of your staff at the time — who, unfortunately, did not address it. That’s why I noted it in my review: I felt it was important information for families considering your otherwise charming property. Best, Pipsa

TBH when I booked this room I didn't realize the place was a B&B which I've not always loved. However, Buonanotte changed my mind, it was wonderful! I had no idea how busy and noisy that part of Rome is yet this place felt like a little oasis. It was quiet, calm, the room was well-appointed, it was almost hard to leave to go exploring! I was there by myself one day, literally not another guest, yet they set out the most wonderful breakfast for me everyday. It's small-only 3 rooms-but if you're solo or a couple I'd highly recommend. Would return in a minute!

My daughter and I stayed here for 6 days. Once we opened the heavy wooden door and entered the lovely, quiet courtyard, it was as if we were in a different world from the lively Trastevere scene. We found every aspect from the owner's art collection, to the excellent breakfast to be outstanding. We especially loved the private terrace off our bedroom where we could relax after a busy day in Rome. It is well situated and we were able to walk to all attractions and shopping destinations.

The most wonderful place you can find to stay with in Rome. If you want your stay to be exactly like your dream of Rome. Secluded and like a secret gem in the middle of crazy busy Trastevere. You unlock the gate, enter and everything is quiet under the magnificent magnolia welcoming you. This is truly a little piece of heaven.

Wonderful room, the Rome Room. It has it's own private terrace which we used every day to relax and enjoy the perfect weather. The service was extraordinary. We left VERY early to get to the airport and our luggage was graciously brought down to the street to greet our taxi. The neighborhood is bustling but the B&B is far enough away from the action so we slept peacefully. We can't wait to be back.
