"Carlsbad’s Burgeon Beer Co. has launched a new tap room and kitchen called The Arbor in the base of the Savina building that is now offering a large variety of house beer as well as wine and kombucha. Its seasonal food menu, which is also available for takeout along with draft beer to-go and retail four-packs, ranges from ribeye tacos to seafood jambalaya and Szechuan tofu." - Candice Woo

Many items marked as gluten-free use a shared fryer. I had the shrimp tacos, which would have been very good had the shrimp been cooked to opaque. Undercooked shrimp is not what I expected.

Ashley

Google
Group of 5 walked in looking for lunch and some pints. Reviews were good and it did not disappoint. Our picky teenager loved the pretzel and cheese sauce. We also enjoyed the charred carrot salad, chicken nuggz and loaded fries. Great beer selection and friendly staff.

Google
This place has THE BEST beer in San Diego, hands down!! They literally do not make a bad beer. The best part is that they have an absolutely amazing kitchen! It's usually just 2 guys completely killing it and putting out the highest quality food I've ever had at a brewery. Don't look over this amazing gem!!

Michael Sandler

Google
Amazing beer. Some of San Diego’s best. Highly recommend coming here for a pint and a bite.

I was excited to try out Burgeon at the Arbor and certainly wasn't disappointed. Service was helpful and friendly. My partner and I ordered a Buffalo chicken wrap and a flight of beers to share and all were excellent. We will definitely be coming back and telling our friends about this option in the area. Tip: The patio is dog friendly.

If you are into craft beers, friendly service, and wonderful people watching in an urban setting, then you’ll love this little beer joint in downtown San Diego near little Italy. The beers went down great! The food too. An overall great experience! The bahn mi hotdog was amazing! Parking was very limited btw. But there are a few hourly spaces if you’re lucky enough. If you are able to park right there and highly recommend checking out what other breweries are nearby such as Stone and Ketch (right on the water) Cheers

Google
Good wings but absolutely disastrous service. They have a sign when you enter that says take your seat and someone will be with you and so I sat down for nearly 15 minutes and I think they have one so called waiter who was yapping it up and not keeping aware of his surroundings at all and so I left. Why I say there was good Wings even though I left was from previous to go orders. Guys change it up. Have people stand at the sign and have it say wait to be seated that way you know someone is there.

Caleb Schwinn

Google
The beer was really impressive but the wings were some of the best I've had, honestly. Absolutely worth stopping in. I'll be back!

Yelp
Found the best Pretzel in San Diego. But seriously, had a great time here. I came solo on a Tuesday night which seemed to be trivia night. Great environment and atmosphere, service was awesome. Great selection of food and drinks!

Yelp
Fun spot to grab a bite and really good brews Note: this is the only Burgeon location that has a dedicated kitchen and although I didn't personally order any food, all the plates coming from the kitchen looked delicious Recommend the Carlsbad Crush if you're looking for a datytime buzzer Cheers, Burgeon!

Yelp
We read that the pretzel was "the best" so we ordered it. I am not a fan of pretzel but it was pretty good. . . prefer a little more crunch and definitely wanted more salt . . . was a good muncher while we waited for our food. It tasted like a bagel but in a different form. I preferred the white sauce to the mustard. I had the Korean fried chicken sandwich, which was pretty good. Funny that my top burger bun had a hole in it as if someone stuck a finger in there. (See my photo.) It came with a side of fries, which were excellent by the way. The fries are hot, crunchy, and taste like they are "double fried" like in Amsterdam. We also had a happy hour order of wings (which are on special on Wednesdays). We picked "Bama" wings. We enjoyed them, saucy! [My husband was here for Yelp Elite. I had a bite of his fried salmon nugget and fish taco. Both were good.] The kids "pizza" didn't have any tomato sauce and was like cheese flatbread that was disappointing. I wanted to ask the workers about it but we did not. We really loved the ambience. It has high ceilings and has the windows/doors open. It has outdoor patio seating, where people seem to bring their pets while eating. The place also sells t-shirts! It's like a sports bar so you see lots of folks just having a beer with or without food. Come check it out!
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
I really liked the fish taco and the pretzel. The kids "pizza" didn't have any tomato sauce and I'd call for a less liberal mixing of "pizza" and "flatbread" by restaurants and servers. My daughter love pizza but didn't touch this flatbread. The ambiance was kinda cool. I liked the vibe there with indoor-outdoor seating. If you just want some beers, this would be a great place to go. Re:service There is no table ordering and you need to wait in line at the register to order, however they do deliver to your table. The staff was friendly enough but the process led to awkwardness when I had to getup mid-meal and wait 5 minutes in line to order more fries.

Yelp
Came here last Wednesday evening with a group of friends and had a nice time. The ambiance is nice as the place is an open concept layout. It's great to feel the downtown atmosphere while in the restaurant. There is street parking and a paid parking lot across the street. The service was great, hence the 4 star rating I gave. The two guys working were super friendly and helpful. It was a busy night and they were hustling but still able to take care of everyone. The prices were pretty high. My glass of Sauvignon blanc (standard pour) was $14 before tax and tip. Same with the food. The burger was $20, nothing added, and to be honest was kind of basic. So be prepared to pay for being downtown. I feel like this place would be a great place to stop on the way to a Padres game in the summertime. Grab a beer before you head into the park.

Yelp
Had dinner and a show here. Funny story, the night I was here, two guys ran a bill over $100 and ran out on it. One of the staff ran after them and got them to pay it. Good for her, think she went above and beyond lol. Back to the review, the taco was really good, but the salmon karaage was not for me. Also order the chicken wing. Ot was too salty but it was very crispy. Some of the food was a hit or miss for me
google avatar

Leslie G.

Yelp
Sometimes you need a hazy IPA and some chicken wings. (Especially when dining with a gluten free friend!). The wu tang wings are GF. They are so flavorful and well cooked. Forgot the name of the beer I had but it went down so fast it didn't make the picture. The bottled lemonade also great!

Marty S.

Yelp
I love the pretzel and the bartenders and the beer, but I am very upset that the sour was dropped from the menu. Where else am I supposed to get a good sour on tap in downtown?
google avatar

Aaron R.

Yelp
Had the Wu Tang wings and truffle fries. Would sooooo recommend. I'm a foodie and pretty critical. It did not disappoint. Beer was good. If you're in the area and hungry, stop looking and just grub here. Service was really friendly and prompt.

Mike M.

Yelp
Great Friendly staff, very welcoming. Made suggestions. Modified food order for us. Highly recommend.

Javier C.

Yelp
Awesome rotating beer and food selections! Friendly staff. Good atmosphere. All the things of an awesome brewery.

Yelp
I love this place. That bourbon barrel aged stout is fantastic. But so is everything else. I wish I lived closer. But I'll be back because I wouldn't come to San Diego and miss this place. Everyone is super nice and it's got a great vibe. But also, every single beer we tried was great. I mean a great vibe isn't enough - you need great beer too. I only wish I'd had more room in the suitcase to take more beer home. If you're on a cruise ship this place is easily walkable. Thank you so much Burgeon for the wonderful beer!
google avatar

Brenda T.

Yelp
Yummy food and drinks here. My husband works downtown and told me about this place and we finally came together for afternoon drinks on our anniversary. They usually have a good chefs special. Today it was a bacon wrapped hot dog but we opted for the tuna ceviche instead. The beer is nice and cold, they have other options, seltzers I believe. The seating on the patio is perfect for people watching. If you like beer you'll like it here.

Yelp
Looking at Yelp and the reviews I read, I was so hopeful and yet left so disappointed and hungry. Positives were: we were able to push two tables together and have our checks split. Having our checks split was a big thing considering most restaurants do not seem to be able and/or willing in the area. Also, our waiter was attentive to us. I was disappointed in that I saw this restaurant had deviled eggs in prior reviews yet, did not have them available. The restaurant was out of sour beer. The door was open and it was cold. We did ask for them to close it and they did. I ordered a chicken sandwich and cut it in half. Good thing I did because as I finished one half, I went to look at the other and the chicken was raw. The waiter was nice about it and asked if I wanted anything else. Told him no as my appetite was lost at that moment. He did remove the cost from my bill, which is why I am probably giving this place a 2 star review. Here on business and if I were not, I do not think I would return.

Yelp
I've been meaning to try Burgeon for what seems like forever. I have famy that live nearby and finally dropped by. Great beer and cool wait staff. I like people watching, so you'll always find me outside. We tried the poke with their green salsa. I told the staff, they need to call this the Rocky because the sauce complimented the dish perfectly.
google avatar

Yelp
Great little satellite brewery with a nice selection of IPAs (which are my favorites) plus a number of other varieties. They have a seasonal menu for their food options, which keeps it fresh. I however went for the typical bar food (which I think is year round) - wings (great) and hot giant pretzel (also great). The bartender was informative on the beers and told good stories. Will definitely come back again.
google avatar

Scott B.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful no frills location for this award winning brewery. Chill laid back atmosphere. People are here for the beer and food. Brooke was extremely hospitable and knowledgeable. What can I say, Burgeon is a must-visit every time I visit home. You can't get clear beer gems like this outside of San Diego. Did not have food this time around but it's as comforting as the service. Taster of Dutchmans Pipe is always a staple.

Yelp
Stopped here for a quick bite before heading to Padres vs Angels game on July 4th. I had the Grilled Chicken Wrap with Fries. The description made it "look" delicious. I was especially excited for the parmesan crisps. Sadly, I did not get the much anticipated parmesan crisps, the entire wrap was very dry (no Arbor Valley Ranch mixed in it like the description read) & the chicken itself lacked seasoning. I requested Blue Cheese. They didn't have any & offered me Ranch. Hmm. LOL. Probably just an "off" day. The fries were good, though. As for the service, our waittress was very nice & attentive. She did recommend a good beer flight.

Yelp
Love the pale ale. They have a nice spot in Little Italy. A bit hard to find parking but you can pay for it across the street. They had a tap takeover with Mckellhenny from Alpine. It was during Beer Week. Ambiance is fabulous as well as very efficient service.
google avatar

Yelp
I picked this place cause yelp had all 5 stars. Not sure how. The bartender was rude and to a point disrespectful. Not once checked on me to see how I was. Had no problem having a conversation with the guy who clearly worked there but at the bar (kept going behind the bar). Group of people came in after me and they were moving tables around for their party of people and she seemed extremely annoyed this was happening. Burger wasn't anything to write home about. Not sure how this place gets all 5 stars. I go into local places fully expecting to get a local item (shirt, hat, coozie,) something. But I left unimpressed.

Yelp
This local brewery in Little Italy is such a hidden gem. I love that you can bring your dog to the patio. I have passed this place quiet a few times and have not actually stopped to try the food. I decided to stop here on a Wednesday night and the customer service was great. The bartender was super friendly and make recommendations. I decided to order the burger and grab a beer. The burger was cooked perfectly and the beer was a crisp refreshing light taste. Would highly recommend coming here and trying different beers. This place is going to be a new favorite that I come to a lot,

Yelp
I have been here a few times and the place is incredible! Delicious beers and food! The service is top notch every time I go, especially from Brittney. She is knowledgeable and helpful when picking out what type of beer you want and always very patient when I, or the people I am with are unsure what to order. I love coming here before a padres game because it is fairly priced and not as crowded as some of the other bars closer to the stadium. Thanks Burgeon, y'all rock!

Yelp
I've come here a few times, twice w/a couple girlfriends for drinks and once w/my boyfriend, CJ, to get some food. The beers and ciders are good, but I must admit the food lacks a bit. We came after a Stride class and we were pretty hungry. We ordered the Bavarian Pretzel, Fish tacos, Indonesian wings, Burgeon Burger w/fries, and the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich w/fries. My partner asked to sub the regular french fries w/truffle fries, but there must have been a gap in communication b/c we just got normal fries. I really enjoyed the wings, but the rest could have been prepared better. The pretzel was hard, the fish tacos and the Burgeon burger were bland (my bf kept asking me if he had COVID since he couldn't taste any flavor lol). As I said the wings were bomb, but the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich was a gritty piece of chicken and dry, lastly the french fries (aside from not being truffle) were cold. You have to order at the bar, which is fine but the server only checked on us once when she delivered the food and never came back. I have a few friends that rave about this place, so maybe it was just an off day \: On a positive note, the food came out fairly quick. Additionally, I love that they are dog friendly (on the patio). Keep in mind, it is located off of Kettner, so parking is very limited.

Yelp
There's a great reason there's nobody here. I order a beer, I'm at the bar, remember this, I have a taste, & say ok, I'll have that $9 beer, I wait, & I wait, then the same schmuck comes over too me & says "you want a beer" I already paid for a beer, there's literally 3 customers here. This is SD service, hate too put this guy on blast, but, cmon dude, you gotta do ur job better. Especially when with tip I'm paying $11 for a beer. Owners: you wasted your money!!!

Yelp
While dog sitting for our friends, we decided to try out Burgeon since it was right next to the apartment. Every time we walked by, it looked like they had good business so we were intrigued by what they had to offer. We ordered our food online to save some time. Korean BBQ Brussels Sprouts: Obligatory veggie dish. Pretty good but I didn't really taste the "Korean." The sprouts were crispy so this ended up being my favorite thing we ordered. Burgeon Burger w/ Fries: Pretty average burger. Nothing special about it though and it wasn't good enough to help redeem their shrimp tacos. Chipotle Shrimp Tacos (3): These were the saddest, smallest shrimp tacos I've ever seen. The shrimp itself was battered and crispy but there was almost nothing else in each taco. Each bite really just felt like you were eating a tortilla and shrimp. Definitely not worth the price. And reading the menu now and looking at the picture I took, they might have forgotten to put in the slaw... Overall, a pretty disappointing meal. Maybe all the highly rated reviews are mainly for beer, which we didn't get. But I don't think we'll be back again.

Yelp
This place looks good from the outside, but I was actually still a little surprised on how good it was. It's a very low-key spot. I go to the gym (HEY STRIDE) right around the corner, and I have walked by this spot so many times and it's consistently always seemed low-key. They have a great menu, and a great selection of draft beers. It's not an overwhelming spot, but it has a lot of good choices for some fire food. I HIGHLY recommend the ahi nachos. I paired it with an IPA that was recommended by the server and it was very satisfying. I read prior reviews about the food not tasting fresh, but that definitely wasn't my experience. Honestly, it's a pretty boujie area which is suspect to have those customers who are just never happy.. so I think that might be where the lower reviews are coming from. Street parking is almost always available, but can be challenging when there are events in Little Italy. Who knows, all I know is that I will be back here especially since its right by my gym.

David F.

Yelp
Wu Tang Wings gets an A+, especially if you like spicy. All the beers are quality. Great service and positive, mellow vibes.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite neighborhood spots! It's rare to find a brewery with really good food and Burgeon never disappoints. I love that they have set staples on the menu but also change things up plus they have weekly specials. The beer is delicious too! Highly recommend checking it out and sitting outside to people watch.
google avatar

Dara M.

Yelp
Nice place with great beer and food options. Staff were friendly and helpful. Mostly high top tables inside with one booth, outdoor seating along the street plus bar seating inside. Food came out fast and the beers we tried were delicious (as always). If you're down in the Little Italy area check this place out. It's worth it...especially if you enjoy beer.

Yelp
Great place! We were in town for a few days and we went to this place 3 times in 2 days! Loved the beer and the atmosphere. The food was also AMAZING! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. definitely want to come back here next time we visit San Diego! Recommend 100%
google avatar

Yelp
Waitress was super friendly and attentive! We had great service-- even with us being the only ones on the patio. The beer was good-- I had the sex on the peach and it super good-- great balance and not too sour. The food was good too! Fries were crispy and salty, hearty portion and fresh. It was a cute space and not too loud. We had a great dinner!

Val A.

Yelp
Our first time here. Amazing food, awesome drinks. We ordered the Burgeon burger and KFC sandwich. They were wonderful. Great atmosphere, cool tunes, great gear for purchase! The BEST thing about our visit was our fabulous server KYLE. He made great suggestions and gave us the best attention. We appreciate him so much. Give that man a raise!! He's such an asset to your joint! We will be back to see him soon.
google avatar

Stacey M.

Yelp
Love all the natural elements in the interior, lots of wood accents and plants! Beers were great! I will back for the blonde ale once they have it again. I was bummed I couldn't try it, however, the Carlsbad crush pale ale was very flavorful. I enjoyed that paired with the chicken wrap. The fish tacos were pretty good as well - the salsa on the side adds a lot of flavor. The Treevana IPA wasn't exactly my husbands taste but still really good quality beer. We will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
I am so glad Burgeon opened this location in SD. I have been to the Carlsbad spot before, but this is much more convenient! The location is easily walkable to the main drag of Little Italy, but out of the crowds. It's nice and open, with the ability to have bigger groups inside or outside. While their IPAs are my favorite, they do a great job with many types of beers, so you have a little something for everyone. I always have to get tasters because I can never narrow it down to just one or two beers. There are a lot of breweries in SD, but not all of them are great. That being said, I have enjoyed every beer I have tried here. They also have wine for the non beer drinkers! This location also has a great food menu. Nothing overly fancy, but perfect for a casual brewery. Some items change with the season, some stick around more permanently. There are healhier options, but without being stuffy. Most recently I had the ceviche. I was a little hesitant, but it was really fresh. It was more of a Mexican spin with the tomatoes, but was delicious. Burgeon will be on regular rotation for us. It's always a nice pre-concert spot by the Music Boxx too. If you are a beer fan, you need to check it out!
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped in a while back and had one of their specials - the Country Fried Beef Ribs, no really they breaded and fried ribs with a peppercorn white white gravy. They were no doubt delicious, and the ribs were very well prepared. The meat was very tender and well seasoned. The light crust was just right too. The peppercorn white gravy was very good. It looked like it was going to be heavy, but in the end it was very light, but packed a lot of good flavor. Although the ribs did come with a single biscuit. It was great and had a nice fluffy yet semi dense texture. It was great eating with the gravy, but in the end I wish the meal would of came with two. I hope they offer these ribs again in the future. Next, I need to try their burger and wings.

Yelp
2.5 stars... I'm all about the hazy life, and juice press lured me in. Ordered the juice press to start, and the menu was completely new! Ordered the chicken sandwich, and was a bit disappointed... big bun and dry chicken might be food for beer sales, but left my tongue wanting more! Garlic fries were spot on though! Before I left I had a cosmic drift and all forms...both good, juicy, fruity, hazy goodness. I'll come back for the beer, and find somewhere else to eat... Ambiance is industrial loft, prices exceed food quality, and staff was friendly and prompt. With so many options I cannot commit to an encore as this joint is just average...and at first glance does not make the list.
google avatar

Yelp
4.5 stars for this beautiful novo gastro brewery. On the edge of little Italy in the basement of a high end condo building is a brewery heavy on the local flavors of SD. I had an hour to spare before heading to the airport so I popped into the airy space. Amazingly attentive staff are happy to walk you through the offerings. I went for the crow pleasing "stupid wings", a season crumbed chicken wing platter with a fun and textured flavor. Suculent and simple!! The deviled eggs were well seasoned and beautifully presented with bacon bits and micro greens. I'm a fan of hazzy (and non-hazzy) IPAs that also give floral notes. 5 oz tasters allow you to sample the whole menue (never commit to a pint...NEVER!!!!) My favorites being the Treevana and the Juice Press. There are screens showing the game, peeps teleworking those last two hours over a beer and everything in-between. Outside tables have ocean views if you squint and really turn your head. Sundowners are calling you!!!

Courtney O.

Yelp
I absolutely love this spot! It opened fairly recently and has a great open air feel with seating both inside and outside. It's open seating and the staff is always friendly and courteous. The beers and the food are all incredible! They offer a wide variety of their own beers on tap as well as other options like hard kombucha. We've tried a wide variety of their appetizers but their fries are a definite must. They have both light bites as well as more hearty entrees. Parking in this area can be a little tricky but it's just far enough from the more heavier trafficked areas of Little Italy to be a little more accessible. It's a great spot for a chill afternoon beer or to catch up with friends.
google avatar

Dung N.

Yelp
I initially came here to try their stupid wings, but also ordered Joe's mussels as well. The wings were baked with a smoky and spicy dry rub- no dipping sauce needed! They were very so flavorful and delicious. The black mussels were pretty good, but didn't have enough seasoning for me. We also got some kind of s'mores pie for dessert, but it wasn't as good as it sounded. My friend had a glass of white wine and another had a few beers, of course. I didn't know that you can get the canned beers to go! Service was friendly and I had a great time people watching in the patio area. Certainly a great spot for some beer and bar food!

Yelp
Great little tasting room with food and a great beer selection. Been here a few times now, it's our go-to spot when in Little Italy area. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. Good vibes here.

Yelp
Juice press (left) delicious hazy End of day (middle) still good but as as good as juice press Juice land (right) not fave. But if you like kamboocha you'll definitely like this. Nice place good vibes. Great place to catch a beer before airplane

Yelp
Five stars for the beer and service and 3-3.5 stars for the food, giving this an overall 4 star experience. After selecting a high top close to the open air, we were greeted right away and placed our drink order. Some of the tables inside did seem a bit tight in space in between. There are also some outdoor seating. The Burl was a solid beer, nutty, malty and not too heavy. We then ordered the food and we're surprised that they came out minutes later. Our waitress had asked if it was ok if the sauce on the southern slaw burger could be on top, once it came out we realized they meant on top of the bun, which made it a fork and knife kind of burger. The seafood jambalaya caught my eye. I will say that the linguine was a bit confusing with combination of the spice and kick from the andouille sausage. The protein portion on the dish was generous, but overall the dish left me puzzled on ita identity of Italian v Southern. Throughout the meal, the acoustics were quite loud and seemed to vibrate. I had trouble hearing my own partner sitting across from me. Overall, a nice new place to grab a cold one and I might try more of their gastropub type bites in the future.

Yelp
The owners of The Good Seed Food Company have made their way down from North County to open this new eatery on the ground floor of a luxury condominium complex in Little Italy. The space was great with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It was quite windy on the evening of my visit so at one point, the staff had to roll down the garage door to keep the interior a little warmer. The spring seasonal menu contained a dozen items, two offerings for kids, and a couple of desserts. I chose the Deviled Eggs ($6) and the Seafood Jambalaya ($20) for my meal. The appetizer consisted of five egg halves with ghost pepper jam, quince paste, and hop butter. That jam added a serious buzz to the yolk with the presence of the red hot chile pepper. The main dish had shrimp, mussels, halibut, and andouille sausage mixed in with linguine. It was interesting that the chef chose to use wide noodles instead of traditional basmati rice for a base. I would like to have seen more pasta in the dish for the price. The service was pleasant, and I was impressed at how quickly both plates were prepared by the kitchen. My dinner experience at Burgeon at the Arbor was worth a four star rating.

Yelp
Freshy. I'm digging all the IPA options. If you are into bud light or PBR, this is not the place for you. Everything is Hop centric with ingredients I've not heard of. Mosaic, Strata, Galaxy, Citra... I tried a few and loved them all, Treevana being my personal favorite. I partnered my beer experience with a straight up burg and Parmesan fries. The burger has a flame broiled undertone, similar to BK, but not as corporate. To be honest, the garlic parm fries were a little thin on flavor. The burger and charred bun made up for it. Quality burger, great toasted bun and good sauces to round it out. In hind sight, I might have held off on the pickles. Only because I'm not a fan. Would I do it again? Hell yeah! Well done.

Yelp
Love this spot in little Italy! Amazing beer (Treevana), great food and a super nice staff! This is our first stop off the coaster before a Padres game and our last stop before we head home.

Yelp
I was in the Little Italy area and decided to drop in. It's a chill atmosphere for having a craft beer. Big windows and patio area. The menu includes delicious food selections. Street parking is available.

Yelp
Good variety of tasy beers here! I also had the giant salted pretzel which was very good!

Yelp
Have always packed across this spot when going to King & Queen. But wanted to try this place as the drinks looked fire and the food looked real good. Man was I proven right! This restaurant is a solid find! It is very open and airy and the service is great! The drinks are amazing and food is yummy! Would totally love to come back! I highly suggest stopping by.

Yelp
The food is delicious, the Beers cold, and the employees go out of their way to offer pairing recommendations. Love the openness of this place..!

Yelp
Burgeon at the Arbor is a great place to grab lunch and a cold beer. Being close to the office I have had lunch here three times. I always start with their Pisitl which is a German Pilsner. It's light crisp and refreshing. I have tried their Flatbread which is alway delicious. The Baja Fish Tacos could use more seasoning and were just okay. Then there are their Ahi Tostadas which are phenomenal. They have a great little patio and their restaurant is very open and airy.
