The Best Hangover Cure Restaurants in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"The towering burgers at this downtown restaurant already come big enough to keep you fueled and your hangover handled for the rest of the day, but they come with enough variety to satisfy most cravings. That includes their Hangover Burger made with American cheese, smoked bacon, mini classic poutine, over easy fried egg, caramelized onions, and truffle oil. Expect some of the better mac and cheeses in town here as well." - JP Karwacki

If you spent your day in the Museum of Fine arts and are hungry, that’s a good place to go. Awesome local food, great service, relaxed atmosphere. Good for your budget. Recommend.

Google
I tried the Firesomething burger it was tasty but kinda sloppy (2nd photo). My husband’s looked way better and was put together nicer. Fries were crispy and the staff was friendly. It cost $27, which is fine, but honestly... I was still hungry after. Also, don’t bother upgrading your side to poutine or anything else it’s like $5 extra and really not worth it. Decent spot, but not amazing.

I recently visited Burger Bar Crescent in Montreal, and it was a pretty laid-back experience. The gin and tonic was strong, definitely catering to those who enjoy a bold/strong drink. I’m not mad at it. One thing that stood out, though, is that they still use a QR code for the menu, which isn’t my favorite. I much prefer a physical menu—there’s something about flipping through one that just feels more comfortable and personal. The Jack Daniel’s wings were hands down the highlight—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, with the perfect balance of sweetness and heat. They were delicious! I also tried the Supersonic burger, which was decently sized and juicy, but it didn’t quite live up to the hype. It was good, but a little more seasoning would have taken it to the next level. I’m curious to come back and try the burger that earned them the title of best burger in Montreal. The onion rings and fries were spot-on though—crispy and golden, just the way I like them. The place was pretty quiet, giving it a relaxed vibe, and the service was friendly. Overall, Burger Bar Crescent is a solid choice for tasty wings and a chill atmosphere, though the burger didn’t quite hit the mark for me. Stay tuned for my full video review on TikTok @Foxy.appetite and Instagram @Foxyappetite!

Google
These burgers are MASSIVE! Good shakes too. I can also highly recommend their salmon burger if you aren't in a beef-y mood.

Google
The food and atmosphere was amazing our server was also very kind we got the roadhouse and the pesto mac and cheese and both were delicious! The milkshakes are really good and amazing quality for the low price, highly reccomend this restaurant to everyone!

Google
This is an amazing place for anyone looking for great food, music, or cocktails. The staff is polite and patient. Tisha is an amazing bartender. I got 2 amazing cocktails from her. The burger tastes good and comes with reasonably sized fries (although I like mine more crispy). Overall, it was a great place to visit if you're in downtown Montreal.

Google
Nicely located with a good view of you have the choice of the balcony. The food was good, no complaints. If staff serves more guests the service gets a bit slower.

Yelp
Service and vibe were amazing. Burgers fresh and creative. Great drinks. I had a chicken sandwich which was also excellent.

Yelp
Wowwwwwww...best smash burger ever! Two levels. Great service. I had the red ale and it was fantastic. I craved the smash burger all day and can't wait to return!

Yelp
What a great find! Went in for a beer and a burger and it was one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. I did the SUPERSONIC BURGER which was a beef patty with Swiss cheese, smoked bacon, dill pickle, banana peppers, tomato, spicy mayonnaise, onion rings served with French fries. I definitely recommend giving them a try!

Yelp
Wow looking at the response you can see how terrible the customer service was! I didn't say I didn't have service I said not all of us did! I had internet but not everyone in our group did. Since again we are in a different country and not everyone has the same phone company. I mean why would I lie about it this? Also, why would you give us one menu!? That literally makes no sense, and based on your response it seems that you spitefully gave us only 1 menu for a group of 5. Im sorry maybe you have an issue with tourist but I think you should understand how international coverage works and not have menus at your door if you don't want people to use them! Also, I was the one who picked this restaurant and said I wanted to go here so why would I be rude and aggressive? I did say to my group, not to the staff that I was okay with leaving after you told us to not sit down after we placed an $80 order! The fact that you are not apologizing and are finding excuses is terrible. Oh and you gave us "complimentary ice water"?! It's water, it's free! We just spent over $80 and you kicked us out from sitting down inside, you should have offered us more than water, like are you joking?' I was going to update this Yelp review to talk about the food and what I thought, but after this comment I'm going to let others decide if they want to eat at a place that treats people the way you guys did. If you are the manager and this your response no wonder you staff is as unfriendly as they are. And please don't act like it was us who upset your staff the girl would took our order was having issues with other people on your staff. We could hear them arguing with each other! Oh and I was aggressive? That is hilarious! Please explain what aggressive thing I said or did? I didn't say anything about how rude you guys were because I knew I was going to write a Yelp review! One thing I hate in this world is when people lie! Oh and I love how you never commented about how you told us to leave from sitting at the bar. Seriously, you are restaurant do better and treat your customers with respect!

Yelp
Great burgers! Try the cider sangria....yummmmm. great service. Poutine was amazing too. Mac n cheese was a big hit as was the salmon salad. We would go again when we're in Montreal.

Yelp
I ordered "The Boss" burger and Cole slaw, the Cole slaw dressing was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the cheddar bison burger with poutine, and he loved it. Another friend got the 2 oz smash burger, and if you're hungry, I wouldn't order that. It's a very small burger and not worth it in my opinion. Our friend had to order a second burger. We also tried the general tao chicken wings. To be honest, they were OK. Could've gone without them. We had great service, everyone was kind and attentive. It was also a cool space for a casual lunch or dinner.

Yelp
We had reservations and showed up early and they sat us immediately. We ordered drinks, an appetizer and burgers. The appetizer came out before the drinks, not just before... 15 minutes before so we were waiting for cocktails for 25-30 minutes. I didn't want to eat the poutine without a beer so I waited for the drink. The waitress finally took the poutine back because we weren't touching it. When drinks arrived, she brought it back out. Then the burgers arrived. They were average - nothing stood out to differentiate it from any other fast casual burger restaurant. I appreciate that the server was working hard but the bar really let her down and the food didn't elevate or even overcome that.

Yelp
December 2022 - COVID Review: I wish I knew ahead of time how delicious this restaurant would be - we definitely would've saved it for last on our trip! Despite being voted #1 best burger in Montreal (yes, the burgers are really good), the poutine was SO good here. So good in fact that it actually set the bar too high for the rest of our Montreal trip that all other poutine we had just didn't taste good. The hangover poutine is a must have - the egg really makes a huge difference. The food here was so delicious that we considered making a second visit for lunch or dinner before leaving Montreal.

Yelp
Id say this one of the best burgers I've ever had! I had one with mushrooms. The burger itself was juicy and flavorful. The fries I got with it were also the perfect texture. The service here was a bit slower, but they were quite busy. The place has pub vibes.

Yelp
OMG! All I can say is GO HUNGRY! Roadhouse Burger was amazing and I selected a salad as a side. It was a delicious burger and a substantial salad. I had to sort of deconstruct it to be able to take a bite - took off the crispy onion rings and ate them separately. My granddaughter had a chicken sandwich with avocado - can't remember the name- and a load of crispy fries to go with it! I tried Lacroix Cider for the first time - and as my server predicted, it was very good and somewhat dry. So enjoyable!

Yelp
Loved this place. Visiting from Florida for the weekend . The food was amazing had the Smash Poutine which was delicious !!!!! The service was top notch our hostess Marine was amazing she went out of her way to make us feel welcomed. I highly recommend this place if your looking for good food and good vibes.

Yelp
You'd think we would've already visited @burgerbarcrescent by now but oddly enough this was our first time. The burger menu is truly very long and varied - We will need to return a few more times to try eveything that we didn't get to try but the items we did select were incredibly satisfying... Large and filling. Delcious and juicy. Eveything a giant gourmet burger should be. And the milkshake was just divine, the right amount of everything in a perfect portion to wash down a great meal.

Yelp
Came here for dinner as I was craving a burger ! I found Burger Bar Crescent on yelp and so happy I did . The venue itself is quaint and I sat at the bar . Firstly , The bartender Sebastian was a superstar making drinks , giving great suggestions and running the show ! I opted for the mushroom , bacon , Swiss which was damn good ! Throw in the crispy fries and i was in heaven !! Definitely worth the trip and will be back ! Great choices

Yelp
Here I was back in Montréal and I knew I had to go back to Burger Bar Crescent. It was busy it was a Saturday and the Canadians had a home game, but we found the last three seats at the bar. They have a main floor and then an upstairs area as well. We had THE BEST service from the bartender, Sebastien. He gave us good advice on food choices and made great drinks. And he was friendly too! Prices are reasonable for all of the food you get ($21.95 for a burger) Everything we had we shared so we managed to try a decent amount. They do an up-charge ($5.95) for adding poutine or onion rings as a side to their burgers - do it- it is worth it! The poutine and burgers were great with the belle bleu burger being our favorite- lots of delish flavors with the toppings and very fresh buns. The family size Mac and Cheese was divine. We had the regular poutine but next time I am having the buffalo chicken poutine. You won't regret this stop.

Natacha D.

Yelp
Food and service did not disappoint. Great ambiance. We had the smash burgers and honestly it was SO good.

Yelp
Amazing burgers and fries. Drinks are good as well! We had a large party and they got all orders 100% correct.

Yelp
Great hamburgers! Easy with allergies I recommend! Supersonic is the best burger to try. Mac&cheese is awesome too!

Yelp
Friendly service, the cocktails are very good and the poutine is amazing! The place is nice.

Yelp
Braised beef and poutine, both delicious. Had cocktails of the month and both great as well.

Yelp
LOVE this spot! We had a great Sunday lunch here. Ice cold beer on tap, great selection on their menu and fun atmosphere. Our waiter was AWESOME. He was super friendly and attentive. I ordered the Buffalo Mac and cheese and OH MY GOODNESS--best Mac and cheese I've ever had. Bursting with flavor and just perfect. My husband had the bacon burger and loved it, cooked to perfection. Can't wait to be back and try their other menu items. 10/10--you gotta check this place out!
google avatar

Loris T.

Yelp
Friendly staff and patrons. Excellent burgers and poutine. Great place to go for dinner and a beer if you're in town for business and on your own.
google avatar

Andy L.

Yelp
Great reviews do maybe that set out expectations too high. I ordered the Wild Shroom burger and I found it a bit dry and it would have been better with a few more shrooms. The green salad that came with the burger was a nice complement. The old fashioned was good and the kid liked the bacon Mac 'n Cheese. My wife had the buffalo chicken poutine and I had a taste of that too. The buffalo chicken had some kick and I was good with that, but nothing to make it exceptional. A solid three stars is more accurate for what we ordered.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
The burgers are double patties and the fries were plentiful My husband and I went there in the rain upon arriving in Montreal. It was delicious even though I wasn't planning on eating burgers. I asked for goat cheese which they accommodated. The cocktails were fun if you're celebrating an anniversary as we were. We ate upstairs in a pub like cozy atmosphere. Great place to start a trip in Montreal!
google avatar

Kathy S.

Yelp
I'm a picky meat eater as I'm mostly vegetarian. I like my meat not too greasy, not too dry, not too gamey, not over or under cooked, and rich and flavorful. I ordered the Supersonic and it was perfect and my son loved his cheeseburger. Service was warm and friendly and the food arrived steaming hot. We were seated upstairs where it was a much quieter crowd on a Friday night around 8pm and when we left around 9pm downstairs was packed and had a party vibe. I didn't love the coleslaw but the fries were nice and crisp. They're the type of fries that would be perfect for dipping into a sauce so next time I'll order some spicy mayo on the side. Ketchup works too. I'm gonna age myself here but didn't this place used to be a second cup like 25 years ago?
google avatar

Gaurav P.

Yelp
My favourite item on their menu is the Buffalo Blue Wings. The taste is amazing when paired with a good beer. The ambiance is perfect didn't find it too noisy; maybe it was just the time I visited.

Yelp
Great burgers, friendly staff and lots of activity. The staff go out of their way to accommodate the clientele. Always a pleasure to eat here.

Yelp
I was a regular customer here before. I had several takeout orders and delivery orders during this pandemic period. I am always happy with the food, the package and the waiting time. My husband's regular choice is the boss, and mine is changing all the time. I like the ones with mushrooms and the spicy chili sauce and pickled pepper. The fries may get a little soft but very good still. The coleslaw is very tasty and crunchy. I like their style.

Paulette M.

Yelp
Great food! Service is top notch! Be aware that the burgers are a work of art. Get the dessert with the Pop Rocks in it. You will be amused.

Eric C.

Yelp
Delicious food, huge portions, and great service. Nice ambiance. Will come again! Poutine!

Yelp
Cool place. Killer burger. Nice people. I had the Royale with cheese and a Mojito...both outstanding. One of the best burgers I've ever had.

Yelp

Yelp
(Last visited 12/5/2019.) Here in Montréal on business (still) and I've been eating well for the most part, but I had a craving for a nice, juicy burger since I've seen this place while walking around downtown, so let's try it! Here's how it went. Atmosphere/Appearance: This place is quaint and tucked right on Rue Crescent. There is only street parking, so good luck with that. Lol. Once inside you're immediately met with the bar on the right and a line of 2-top/4-top tables that can be pushed together on the left. There's a very "homey" vibe here and I felt comfortable. It reminded me of just like, eating in someone's living room. Then you can go upstairs where there's another bar for the busy days and more seating. I really liked it in here. Service: The first time I came here Adrian took care of me and he was awesome. He took great care of me and made me feel so welcome. The 2nd time I came I got takeout, but was treated with the same respect as if I were dining in. Food: My first time I came I got the Brie & Mushroom AAA Bison Burger. LAWD! It was fantastic. It was so juicy, meaty, savory and just amazing. I upgraded my fries to sweet potato fries and they were too... fantastic. Burger Bar KILLED it. So while I was perusing the menu, I noticed they had wings. Y'all know how I feel about wings, so say no more. 2 days after that burger (likely a Wednesday for Wing Wednesday), I came back and got an order or Buffalo Blue wings as well as their Extra Spicy wings. They were so good! The burger was a bit better, but still the wings were fire FOR SURE. I'd totally come back for them. Value: (All prices are in $CAD.) My burger was $24.00 and to add the sweet potato fries was $3.95. My wings were $16.00 each and you get 10 in an order. Very good value for the quality of food that you get. In conclusion, I LOVED this place and it's easily one of my favorite places in Montréal to eat. I will absolutely come back here when I return for future visits.
google avatar

Ani L.

Yelp
Meh. Nothing to write home about. Had the Last Samurai, the salmon was completely rare. Now I absolutely love salmon sashimi, but I was not expecting deep fried salmon to be raw on top of completely tasteless. The Sennanigans burger was a tad better. Edit: I did mention it to the server when we cut the fish burger. He did say it comes out medium rare but didn't say if the fish was sashimi grade?

Sam t.

Yelp
Absolutely love it. Best burger place in Montreal. Even a great place for drinks. Amazing. I can't wait to go again
google avatar

Yelp
Super nice crew of bartenders and servers. Delicious burgers wings and a salmon option on a tasty salad
google avatar

Yelp
This city has so many great restaurants but sometimes you just need a burger. And Burger Bar Crescent did not disappoint. The Mrs had the Ceasar Salad and I went for the Jack Daniels BBQ Burger. She was very, very happy with the salad....although she did keep taking fries off my plate! For me, the BBQ Burger was top notch! It was too big to pick up and eat, so I had to knife and fork it. But it was worth it! Next time we're in Montréal, chances are that Burger Bar Crescent will be on the menu!

Victor T.

Yelp
Excellent burger place. Will definitely come back next time I'm in town. Lots of space upstairs. Great service !
google avatar

Andrew T.

Yelp
Looked at some of the reviews and it was close to us so we figured we'd give it a try. The waitress was very nice and offered water to our dog as we sat outside. Had the red/blond ale, which were ok, and 2 burgers (Mr. Personality/SuperCheddar). The burgers tasted good, and although my order came out wrong initially, it was quickly replaced. Although they told I could get it medium rare it was certainly well done. It wasn't terribly dry and it had been 35 min so I didn't send it back. All in all it was a nice time eating and people watching but nothing blew the doors off. I felt 3 stars was too low but 4 may be high
google avatar

Daniel M.

Yelp
The burgers were very delicious and you can choose any of them and be happy. The poutine was big and delicious. Also you need to get the peach and basil sangria.
google avatar

Lauren G.

Yelp
A wonderful burger place! Two floors- second with bar. Many burger options and all looked so good! It was hard to choose just one. I got the supersonic burger which was so good with the spicy mayo . It had just enough kick ! We also ordered the pulled pork poutine - this was so good! We also got the poutine with the smoked meats but I liked the pulled pork better ! We also ordered wings- GENERAL TAO WINGS, SPICY JD BBQ WINGS and BUFFALO BLUE WINGS. I really liked the wings too! This was a great place I would be happy to go back ! There will 11 of us and service was great
google avatar

Ed S.

Yelp
Located at the heart of Montreal , cute little burger bar with great choices of drinks friendly staff and great food. A must stop. Burgers range between 15- 22 dollars. The poutine was delicious. Out side seating also available.

Yelp
Got a table for five people on a Friday afternoon four lunch/dinner. Modern interior with wooden tables lining the wall for seating (and somehow not crowded at all). Wasn't necessarily in the mood for a burger, so ended up ordering the Smoked Meat Poutine ($18). A large platter of crisp fries with a thick gravy, cheese curds, smoked meat, and pickles on top. Curds weren't too chewy and the meat/gravy had lots of flavor. Felt like the ratio of curds to the fries and meat were a bit high. Beer list isn't extensive, however it is moderately priced at around $8-9. Server is quick and got our orders in without issue. Hopefully get to try the burgers someday.

Randell J.

Yelp
Tired after a long day of sightseeing, we decided to get food from Burger Bar Crescent for take-out. The service was excellent; food was ready on-time, correct, and kept in an insulated cooler to keep it hot. The food - really good. The classic 5-cheese Mac & Cheese was surprisingly good. The Quebecois burger was yummy, and my partner enjoyed a more basic burger. The only down moment was my daughter wasn't enamored of the caesar salad dressing -- too much anchovy. Solid 5 stars. (And next time I'll ask for some ketchup and utensils, since I was staying in a Hotel! Luckily I had some utensils)
google avatar

Julia R.

Yelp
If you are looking for a good burger in Montreal, this is the place to go! First, the employees were super friendly and welcoming. They definitely made the experience! I had a drink at the bar and placed an order to go. I ordered the québécois burger with sweet potato fries. I loved every bite, though the caramélisés onions were a little much. It's a neat spot and they have more than just burgers!
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
(3.5/5) Great place for a burger, however, a little bit pricey for what it is. The ambiance of the restaurant is really nice. It has a sort of classy but fun look and feel inside. The staff are all friendly too. I got the basic burger with an upgraded side of a poutine. The burger was really good. However, it lacked some sauce or juicy-ness to it. I did order it medium cooked but still felt there wasn't enough juice to it. I wish they added some type of bbq sauce to it for free. Side note, I also requested pickles on the burger and they were deliciously sour (the best kind!). The poutine was really tasty. There was a perfect consistency and ratio between the golden fries, "sauce brun" and cheese curds. I would highly recommend upgrading the side to a poutine! Overall, I would recommend this restaurant for their poutines and ambiance. The burgers are nothing special and can be found at a cheaper price elsewhere.

Jason G.

Yelp
Great food, drinks, and service. We tried a few different burgers (Firestorm, The Boss, Jack Daniel's BBQ, and Mr.Personality) as well as the classic poutine and loved it all.

Yelp
Our first meal in Montreal and undeniably one of the best meals of our trip! Based on reviews, we decided to go this place and were not disappointed at all. It was the 7 of us on a Friday afternoon, and were seated right away on a large table on the first floor. They had some really nice outdoor seating as well. We ordered a Poutine and a few burgers and also got some chicken wings. Food was absolutely delicious. Service at this place was excellent as well, and their staff is very warm, welcoming, and attentive!

Oscar L.

Yelp
The food was great quality and tasting! Service was good and drinks where great m. Place is fun cozy to take a load off at the end of the day. Recommend

Yelp
Holy Burger Heaven! The photos are real depictions of what you'll get when you order from here. On our last day in Montreal, we decided to stop by and grab some lunch. the staff was very friendly. they had outdoor seating as well but we decided to stay inside with the AC as it was 80 degrees outside. this place has two floors which is understandable as the first floor doesn't have many tables. there's a bar on both floors and the bathrooms are upstairs. we ordered mozzarella sticks and i got the boss burger with a side of poutine and the boyfriend got the supersonic burger with a side of sweet potato fries. unfortunately the mozzarella sticks weren't worth getting. definitely regret that decision as they were small and barely filled with cheese. we were hoping for that magical cheese pull but instead got a cheese rip. for the price, they definitely should've been bigger and the cheese pull should've wowed us. the burgers, however, live up to the hype. very monstrous but also very delicious! the poutine was good and still crispy. as was the sweet potato fries. definitely a place i would recommend if one wants to crack open a cold one and enjoy a good burger!

Yelp
Our server came once and we ordered drinks and dinner and didn't come back until the food was ready and forgot the drinks.
