I went in at 11 am on a Sunday. I thought Burger Boy was just a burger joint, but we went in for brunch and this place is a full blown diner! We got huevos rancheros and a plate of children's French toast. Even though I got a senior plate ($7) the server couldn't tell the 2 apart. The French toast came with nicely grilled hash browns and 2 strips of bacon, freshly cooked. In fact, all the food is fresh cooked, they don't have a stack of bacon waiting to be thrown on plates. The cashier asked when I ordered, "want onions?", "grilled onions?". That's when I realized Burger Boy is a family diner, the grilled onions were a perfect compliment to the huevos! The eggs were cooked to perfection, and our meals were delivered hot and complete. Burger Boy does make the best burgers, but check out the other menu items! Oh, the service was great, they make you feel like part of the family, just for dropping in!

Google
This is a great local place with a dedicated following. My kind of place. If you're in the area, drop in and give them a try. You won't be disappointed.

I live in Santa Fe, but I don’t eat burgers there. I’ll drive 45 minutes to Burger Boy. I have friends and relatives fly in to ABQ on days when it’s open so we can stop on to and/or from the airport. Quite simply the best burger in New Mexico. Great value, cooked to order, all the fixings anyone could ask for. Great atmosphere. If there’s a wait, it always worth the wait. I’m a little glad it’s so far from my home, or I’d be here weekly. If you’re passing by on 40, it’s worth pulling off and getting a burger. If you’re visiting New Mexico and want a taste of good old fashioned, delicious and unpretentious American food, there’s no better option.

Google
I’ve been wanting to try this place for so long and regret not trying it sooner! The green chile cheeseburger is so delicious and juicy. The fries come out so hot crispy. My husband got the special, the sopa burger. He said it was great. The weather was perfect to sit on the patio with the mountain view. I will be returning soon to my new favorite burger joint.

Google
Burger was good, nice big patty cooked perfect. Got the chile relleno burger and tasted good but a little disappointed the chile had no heat. Fries were great as always, one of my favorite places for fries. Friendly service, place was relatively clean. Will keep going by for sure.

Google
First, I'll start with the burger. It was a massive double meat double bacon cheeseburger. Overall portion size was beyond expectation and compensated for the dryness of the patties, which was disappointing. The cheese slices were super meaty and the bacon was cooked to perfection. The fries seemed to be cooked in oil that should have been changed a few days prior. The cons: Bring your own ketchup and mustard because they're left on the table and flies were having them for lunch. Also, bring your own fly swater becuase these flies don't care about boundaries. They'll land right on your face without fear. I counted at least 6-8 employees and would have thought that would be plenty to maintain the cleanliness for such a small dinning area. But there was food on the floor, dirty tables and mayo packets.

Google
Best burgers in NM! However, I usually get the fish sandwich… DANK! Never had a fish sandwich that good!! Highly recommended.

Google
Never been here before, but heard great things about this place . Let me tell you something ! We came all the way from Dallas , Texas and brought my whole family here. Best fresh burgers we have ever had. Mike was amazing and so was his staff. They treated us like family ! Amazing customer service . The restaurant had an amazing retro feel to it and was very clean . I give this place 5 Stars . I recommend everybody to try this place. We will be back. Thanks Burgerboy for an amazing experience in the mountains.

Yelp
I don't know where to start if it was the outstanding customer service or the cook behind the grill making the delicious hamburger. The scenery is very beautiful out there and it is a nice family business but all I gotta say is that was the best green chili burger ever. !!!!! I highly recommend anyone driving past it. Stop and try it.

Yelp
Little local diner outside of Albuquerque with some friendly kids running the place (and bathrooms if you need them.) Here's the menu showdown: BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger vs. Chile Relleno Burger Winner: BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger - its flavor edged out the Chile Relleno with a sauce that had a nice little kick and a couple of onion rings for crunch. Plus bacon, lettuce, American cheese, pickles, and fresh tomatoes. Fries vs. Fries Winner: Neither. We both ordered fries and I had immediate regrets when I saw someone else's onion rings. The fries had a texture problem and we weren't quite sure why. Summary: Burgers weren't the best - the patties were really dry - but the flavor was there. We would definitely give them another go but try something else...maybe breakfast?

Yelp
Hands down the best green chile cheese burger I've had in NM. We have family in Sandia Park and try and stop by Burger Boy anytime we make the drive out from Albuquerque. I also recommended the Tater tots.

Yelp
We were headed back home from a hike and stopped by this little spot off the side of the road. My girlfriend has been here before, so she knew about restaurant beforehand. We got a BLT and a Chile Cheeseburger with green chilies. We sat behind the building where they had picnic tables, which was nice because our dobermam was with us. My girlfriend loved her BLT and my burger hit the spot after our hike. The BLT had enough bacon and I would say this is one of the better green chilie burgers I've had in a while. The fries were also super good, they were nice and thick, crisp on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. The staff was super nice. We would definitely recommend this spot.

Yelp
Great burger and onion rings. Definitely worth the drive from Placitas. There's a reason why it gets so busy

Yelp
I remember hearing about this place long before Covid was a thing. The funny thing is I rarely find myself on that side of the mountain. Today I decided to head up to the crest and stopped in for some lunch before taking the long winding road up there. The staff was very welcoming. I will be honest I did not expect it to be busy. Needless to say I was in for a surprise. I settled with a double chili burger with a drink and fries. 20 bucks was the damage. After a long 30 min wait I was greeted by a mammoth slapped between two buns. I took my first bite and I was mesmerized by the cheese and juiciness of the patties. That burger packs a punch. It was the 4th of July in my mouth exploding with deliciousness! The fries weren't bad either. You know at first I wasn't sure what to expect. Although the price seemed steep at first, I will say it was worth it! I heard they had a mushroom burger so you can bet I'll definitely be returning! Thanks Burger Boy!

Yelp
Pretty good overall! Had it twice while in town and I'd say it's a top notch place for the area. Burgers are Sandwiches are solid!

Yelp
This has to be my favorite burger spot so far in the Albuquerque/Sandia mountain area. The service was good and super friendly, and the barbershop is a small restaurant that caters to a quick bite if it is not busy. I got both the relleno burger and the green chile burger with double meat meat. The green chili burger has to be my favorite burger. I have had in Albuquerque. The relleno is a close second as it it was super cheesy and tasty. I will most definitely come here again!

Damian L.

Yelp
Very mediocre burger spot . Super pricey & not worth it . Asked for a green chill cheeseburger ( WELL DONE ) . Waited almost 20 mins for a raw uncooked burger , Soggy bun with 2 cold pieces of cheese on top . & a little small serving of fries... for almost 15$ . 4/10 everytime I come here . Only good thing is the pink lemonade lol .
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
Ordered two double burgers. They came out over done and dry. It was not busy staff standing around talking. There was fries /ketchup/napkins all over the floor in sit down area looked like nobody had cleaned in a while. I use to love this place. Hopefully just a bad day.

Yelp
Yo, my people I have return. I know it's been a while since I've done review, but there hasn't been anything worth writing about! Then I come across this little in the rough. With crispy cheese with melted burger was cooked, medium rare all the fixing on it we're good very polite staff. I'm super happy to have finally been able to try this establishment. I spent nine dollars. I open my bag expecting only a burger into my surprise a bag of chips too!

Yelp
Can't believe it was barely our first time to Burger Boy! Definitely a great spot to stop at if you're driving through Cedar Crest, after a hike, or wanting to try a new burger joint! Made-to-order burgers were worth the (maybe) 20 minute wait (considering it was noon, and very busy)! Yummy! I will definitely be going back! Staff members were very friendly, good vibes, and restaurant had much more seating than I thought! Good little outdoor space to eat, too. Stop by!!

Yelp
I've heard interesting tales of what this place used to be in years past. It's not that anymore. Today it's a greasy spoon with limited hours that appears to be struggling to keep the doors open. Ostensibly they have breakfast but the late opening hours mean that it's lunch time when they open. I've only had breakfast here so I can't speak to the burgers or the lunch options. What I've had has been good, competent, quick. Counter service. Reasonable prices. I'll be back. But I won't go very far out of my way. I usually want breakfast in the morning and I'm rarely near here for lunch.

Yelp
Heard that this place had good green chile cheeseburgers so we gave it a shot. This little dive does have tasty burgers w good fresh green chile!! Staff was friendly as well

Yelp
Wanted to love this family run business. We understand good food takes time, but 40 min for 2 burgers is just too long. They were large and looked great but we're dry. Not juicy at all. Maybe use a fattier meat! They looked beautiful and we're huge. One Chili, cheese burger (not too many chilies) and one chili relleno burger which had huge potential. Only a small slice of relleno with cheese not the whole thing which was way disappointing. Onion rings standard with a tempura style breading vs bread crumb. Fries standard. Friendly service and owner on-site which is always nice to see. Lunch was on the expensive at $35. Wife's combo onion ring / drink addition was $6.70 xtra. Cashier gave the impression there was no up charge for o-rings. I am rooting for this place because it is Patriotic, Americana with hard working people. Give them a shot.

Yelp
I definitely recommend a visit to this place! It has a unique, charming and special atmosphere and history! I really enjoyed my green chile cheese burger and especially the " happy fries". The employees were extremely friendly , helpful and kind.

Yelp
The food here is amazing! The staff is very courteous and knowledgeable. Thank you, Nicole, Sarai and Rochelle!

Kevin H.

Yelp
If you are in the area and need a decent burger or burrito this is your place. Don't go out of your way. Price is high and service is slow. I do stop by periodically when I'm bored with everything else in East Mountains. Never had a bad meal.
google avatar

Yelp
Came in on a Saturday at lunch the restaurant was pretty busy. Staff was friendly. This place was a very solid burger but today, the burger was over cooked and the wife's tater tots were very cold. Three kids cheeseburgers came with no cheese, the staff corrected it, but it was not the restaurant I remember.
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered burgers for pick up. Took home on a 10 minute drive... opened up the burger.. Bun top was sopping and useless. Somehow peeled it off in one piece. Ordered it with onion but didn't see any unless it was chopped and hidden in the mayo and lettuce bit smear stuck to the sopping bun? Burger was totally unseasoned. I like my burgers with a full slice of visible onion and leaves of lettuce, not little shreds of lettuce or undetectable flakes of onion. I also like a toasted bun that hasn't turned into mush. Sadly a fast food burger would have been much better than this sad bland mush burger. Nope.

Yelp
We were looking forward to a burger since Taos. After a long day of road-tripping, we arrived when the hours said they should have been open... but they were closed. I don't know if their hours have ch as he'd, or they have different seasonal hours, but according to both Google and Yelp, they should have been open. I did notice on their website, they had a death in the family a couple months ago, and whether this is affecting their family business, or maybe they just need to update their hours. Anyway, I can't comment on the food, but wanted to give a heads up in case you're counting on trying them out:)

Kent J.

Yelp
Food was good. Service lady was cheery but making mistakes. My Frito Chili was screamingly hot (spicy) but tater tots were very good. Ambience was small townish fine.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
$90 for three burgers, two with fries! I don't care how good they might be. That's a stupid greedy price and we have been waiting for AN HOUR so far. They're not even busy. Never coming here again!! zero stars
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
Don't get me wrong, it has a charming atmosphere, but no. We won't be back. We went as 4 adults and a child. Our meals were over $85 and we only ordered fries with 2 of the burgers, as well as canned sodas instead of fountain drinks. First, they have 3 paper menus and very little space to stand and look at the main menu, so we ended up sharing one paper menu amongst the 4 of us. My daughter had a Red Chile Cheeseburger. She bit into a hard gray piece of something and nearly chipped a tooth! She said there were lots of chewy pieces and hard pieces. I had a Chile Relleno Burger as seen in the photos. The bottom bun was so soggy, it nearly stuck to the plate. I had to eat it upside down, which was mushy. The burger was big and juicy, but wasn't really special. There wasn't any seasoning, just beef. It must've been really busy. The tables were all dirty so we cleaned our own along with another patron. The trash was overflowing. It was just not the "Best Burger Joint" in Albuquerque experience we were expecting.

Yelp
Not only does Burger boy have some of the freshest highest quality ingredient burgers , their New Mexican food is some of the best around ! Staff is amazing everything is always correct ! Hard to beat Burger boy all around !

Yelp
Awesome burgers! Fries and onion rings! Well worth the wait! And must say, a great team - they seem to all work well together and expediently. Love this place! Will always come back! Can't be in NM without stopping in - true!

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick bite while in the area. You order at the counter and find a seat. Hubs ordered cheeseburger, I ordered fish and chips. Drinks are in cans. Fish was frozen and had a weird soft center. No malt vinegar only tarter sauce. Hubs said burger was good and greasy. Best part of the meal was the fries. The place was kind of dirty. I dropped my phone and it came back with stuff on it and a little greasy. It might be okay if you are looking for a diner like environment. Man at the counter was funny.

Yelp
I have eaten at Burger Boys numerous times and my ultimate fave burger is the working man burger. I told staff one day they should have the working woman burger lol Their burgers and fries always fresh and juicy and delicious!! I've eaten there in the middle of the day and late at night and burgers always fresh. There are several locations in San Antonio try them they all have great service and food
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down the best green chile cheeseburgers anywhere anytime. Tom Neiman and I stopped by in August for our first visit. Not our last visit. https://youtu.be/qMRzS7kLBLQ

Yelp
Don't pass this place by! My wife & I have been wanting to try the food here for a while & recently had a chance to - we were not disappointed. The hot dog bun was toasted & had some great topping choices. The green chili cheeseburger was awesome! Delicious onion rings & a unique blood orange shake topped off the meal. Add that we had fast & friendly service, we won't wait so long to return.

Yelp
Absolutely best burgers! Juicy, big and fresh. It is great to have such a hidden gem in the East Mountain community. Burgers are one less thing we will not have to travel to "the city" for! Service is kind and courteous. The menu is big for a tiny burger joint, but the food is great.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious food! We got the green chile cheeseburgers, the flavor was amazing! The fries were so crispy and tasty and the lemonade tasted so fresh! Mike, the manager was out greeting everyone making sure we were all taken care of and let me tell you, this place was busy the whole time we were there, and still our food came out quickly. They have a Veterans theme going on, which is appreciated since I myself am a veteran, I definitely recommend it!

Yelp
3.5 Stars. My friend and I embarked on a green chile cheeseburger tour this past week. Our mission was to find the best green chile cheeseburger in the great state of New Mexico. We went to 11 different places and here are the results. Burger Boy ranked #8 out of 11. We drove up to Cedar Crest and went with a Double Green Chile Cheeseburger. We paid, got our number, and waited outside. About 15 minutes later, our burger was brought out. Here is how it was.................. Double Green Chile Cheeseburger- This thing was hefty! The patties were definitely hand formed because they were a bit misshapen. Fatter in some parts, and thinner in others. Nothing wrong with that, though! The burgers had nice flat top crispy/char marks on them. Produce was fresh. The cheese was a bit lacking (buddy and I both said, we would have ordered extra cheese on this one) and the green chiles were a tad skimp too (they got lost in the shuffle). Overall, it was a good burger, but not a great "green chile cheeseburger". Pair that with the price (It was $13.00...the most expensive burger we had all trip), and that is why its ranked lower than it probably should be. Cool joint, and I would definitely return if I lived in the area, but I wouldn't drive far distances just to try it out.

Rachael S.

Yelp
The food was amazing the fries were delicious the portions were large it is definitely a great burger place.

Marrietta M.

Yelp
Burger Boy has been around for YEARS. They have a really good selection of foods to choose from. Food is tasty!!!! Service is grand slam! Tables are a little too close together but it's alright.

Walter H.

Yelp
Fast and delicious food. Friendly workers. Green Chile burgers and milkshakes hit the spot.

David F.

Yelp
Good, but slow ... there were only 4 people when I came in (20 min after they opened) and it took 23 minutes to get a burger. I had been here when it was busier (and extremely slow), so I wanted to see how they performed when there were few customers. The cheese burger, even though it was $10.48, was good. This is post COVID, so everyone has had to raise their costs because the ingredients cost so much. It had probably 0.5 pounds of meat and was not over cooked. There were some potato chips with the burger; so that was a nice touch. The place was a little dirty, but not bad. It was mainly around the trash cans. Not overly friendly, but they were not rude or anything ... they only had the cashier and the one cook, but again, that is a post COVID thing.

Yelp
Burger Boy is the hidden gem in Cedar Crest. I first discovered them back in in the early 90s. Back then I was all about Chile Cheese fries. Well my hours don't always line up with BB but today we decided it was a green chile burger day!! You know supporting our local businesses is important always but especially now. Burger Boy took our phone order and had our order ready for pick up as soon as we arrived. Upon arriving home we had a fabulous meal. Absolutely tasty well done burgers perfectly layered to enhance the flavor in every bite. The onions were golden and crispy. The chile cheese fries were still the same delicious delight The staff was jolly friendly and made my day.

Greg Z.

Yelp
Split the Relleno Burger, tots, and onion rings with my wife. It was absolutely delicious. The burger was plenty to split but they're a little stingy in the tots (I think we had seven in our basket). It was a little dusty inside and they need better ice, but that burger! Why can't every burger place cook them like this?!?
google avatar

Kevin P.

Yelp
Cedar Crest has been hiding the best burger in town. The burgers were so juicy and just couldn't put down the burger till it was gone. The have keto buns so if keto like me it is so worth the drive on the east side of the mountains from Bernalillo. A week later we drive back out to eat again. I had the Christmas style single burger and was completely blown away at the quality of the product. The staff was super friendly and was greeted with "are you hungry".
google avatar

Tiffany P.

Yelp
I'm pretty confident in saying that I've had the best burger I've ever had! While I'm visiting, I looked up the best burgers in NM and Burger Boy made the list of the top 9 burgers in the state of NM (according to bestthingsnm.com). They definitely did not steer my wrong! It's a smaller mom and pop restaurant, but it gave a cozy and homey feel. The staff was great and suggested getting the green chili on the side since I had never had it before. I tasted the burger without the chili and then added it on, and both bites were equally amazing. The burger was so juicy and the bacon cooked to perfection! I absolutely must get back to this gem before I leave NM!

Yelp
Visited for the 4th of July... plenty of tables and motorcyclists. We had planned on taking it to go and taking the burgers on a picnic, but didn't want them to get cold before we got there. The wait wasn't too long and the workers were all dressed up in patriotic sequin hats. I had read that the prices had gone up recently- for two tot burgers (one with cheese), a small water, an iced tea, a regular cheeseburger, and a large fry, it came out to $26. But, we were happy to support a small business. The fries were hot and crispy, burgers a little greasy. I got a few extra pieces of green chile that got stuck to the burger bun, which added to the flavor. The tot burger was the perfect size for me. Overall, it was good, but still my top 2 places for burgers in the state are Blake's and Sparky's in Hatch. The only regret was that we didn't get any ice cream to go with it 2020 #17

Gavin F.

Yelp
Godly must try go there every year for my birthday amazing souls there! They are so nice and hospital. Even helped with directions when turned around !!

Robert H.

Yelp
I don't know what has changed but the service has gone downhill. Been waiting for 55 minutes and still no food. I won't come back again.
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
Always amazing as we are used to. Best burgers in the ABQ area! I love their onion rings with mine. Drinks are weird-only by the can but they aren't expensive

Jane M.

Yelp
The place was hammered, and the staff was still polite and friendly. The sopa burger was amazing, and the fries were great. Fresh, hot, and batter dipped. Also, the burger was a real diner burger, cooked medium well. I am old enough to be nostalgic for these family owned diners, and this is one of the best places I've been to in 50 years

Yelp
Boy, did we time this right by beating the huge evening dinner rush! We decided to get an early dinner, and had been hearing about this place from all over, so we stopped in to check it out. Tiny little joint, but you start smelling the love as soon as you get out of your ride. Typically you order at the counter and your food is brought to the table, but since we were a large group and it was early, Ashley bade us sit and she would come around and take our order. And order we did! Burgers with green chiles and cheese, dressed with all the fixin's. And, wonder of wonders, you can order it cooked like you like! Pretty uncommon nowadays. I can't really tell you what everyone else thought, as there wasn't a lot of conversation once the food arrived. Based on the moans of pleasure, I think they liked it. I got the double patty green chile burger with cheddar cheese and cooked medium rare. My order was late to the table because the grill maestro wasn't satisfied it was cooked to my liking, so he made it over. How's that for perfection??!? I do not mind waiting for the right burger, let me tell you, and this one was right in every sense of the word. Terrific tasting ground meat(sourced locally and ground in-house), cooked just right, fresh toppings, lots of gooey cheese, and the patties were super juicy. How juicy? I took some of it home on my pants and the burger was so good I probably won't try to get the stain out...I want a reminder of the yum. Onion rings were thick and delicious and the fries were crispy and tender at the same time. A really great meal. I'm not normally a flat grill burger kinda dude, but these folks are working magic up in here. A big shout out to Ashley on the terrific service, too. Everything came out exactly as ordered and we definitely made it as complicated as possible. Final thoughts? The little dudes shared a burger and both of them wanted more...and that NEVER happens. If you're in town, get out to this little gem of a burger joint, it's fantastic.

Yelp
Wonderful burger spot! The staff were so nice and checked in to be sure we were all set. Burgers are juicy and very quick! We want to return and try the coffee milk shakes!

Yelp
We first ate at Burger Boy in 2021 and the food was delicious... we all ate juicy, flavorful cheeseburger and fries. We returned a week ago in September 2023 and it was a totally different experience. The burgers were WAY over cooked, the meat did not taste flavorful and the only seasoning was pepper (and too much). The condiments were overused and dripping and I think they are using so much to hide the burger being so bad. The tables were also disgusting and sticky and no one seems to care about the hygiene aspect. Such a bummer. I noticed it seems to be a very different crew and the owners were not there. I don't recommend.
