24 Best Vegans and Vegetarians in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Vegan food isn’t all soybeans and lentils; sometimes, it’s “chicken” nuggets, waffle fries, kimchi dogs, and chocolate milkshakes. Operated by the same team behind local vegan fave Hello 123 and recently opened Italian wine bar/restaurant Conceria, Burger Fiancé already has a second local location in DDO (and a third in Toronto) — proof that the demand for plant-based “junk food” is high." - Holly Tousignant

Google
One of the best burgers I've ever had. And I've had many! This place ranked in my top three:) I took the old style (can't fully remember the name) burger - amazing, and the kimchi fries were good, though the onion rings were the best. Highly recommend and I will be coming back for their juicy and flavorful burgers

Google
Excellent vegan place with many gluten-free options and tasty dessert. Super friendly staff, super tasty salmon alternative, which is actually gluten-free. We came here 3 times, each time it was super tasty. The washrooms could be a bit cleaner though.

I love trying out vegan restaurants in every city I visit. While I’ve been to Montreal before, I had not been to a 100% vegan restaurant. Burger Fiancé wasn’t too far from my hotel so I decided to check it out. I’m so glad that I did! I got the Truffle Burger and a side of ceaser salad. I was blown away with how good they were! The burger was juicy and full of flavor. The salad had so many textures, it was a perfect combination. While the prices are a bit high, I found it more than reasonable considering the quality and portion size. The staff were so friendly. The location was great and décor was fun and very inviting. I can’t wait to go back and try another burger!

Food is ok, but nothing extraordinary. The burger was really nice and well cooked, but the fries were overcooked, it felt like they were twice in the oil (and you can see it in the photo). Service is less than average: it took them more than 5 minutes to give me a table when there was plenty of them free. Plus, I had to ask multiple times to get ketchup and the bill. And the attitude was not warm or kind at all. I think only the manager did the effort.

Honestly loved this place! I have already been here three times and I definitely recommend this! It was me and my family's first time having vegan burgers and it was super delicious! I also highly recommend their Kimchi fries, I almost asked whether I could buy the kitchen. It was amazing 👏 🤩

Came here with my friend who’s vegetarian—I’d been hearing all the buzz about Burger Fiancé, so I had to bring her. And let me tell you: the hype is real. We kicked things off with the kimchi fries ($11) and cauliflower bites ($9)—so generous that we were already getting full before the burgers even showed up. The fries were hand-cut and loaded with flavor, and I asked for a side of their rayunaise sauce to dip both the fries and the cauliflower in—game changer. Creamy, tangy, and just the right amount of flavor. For my main, I had the Pulled Pork Ameyoko ($22)—made with shiitake instead of meat. I’ll be honest: the texture was a bit chewy for me since I’m not used to vegetarian meat substitutes, but the flavor? Incredible. Smoky, sweet, and balanced. I got it with a Caesar salad on the side, and the dressing had a slight sweetness to it that I loved. Plus, crispy croutons and fried capers? Yes please. My friend went for the Truffle Burger ($21)—Impossible patty, onion ring, mushrooms, truffle everything. We split both sandwiches in half, because how else are you supposed to do it? The terrace was open, so we grabbed a table outside—it was my first terrace of the spring, and the sun was doing its thing. To top it all off, they were playing Afrobeat when we walked in. Vibes? Immaculate. Vegan or not, this spot is full of flavor, good energy, and worth the visit. — Foxy Appetite Follow me for more foodie adventures: Instagram / YouTube: @foxyappetite TikTok: @foxy.appetite

Google
This was $22. I was so excited to try this place after seeing the reviews and photos. Walked 25 minutes in the heat wave today to get there. They ran out of gluten free buns and when they said a lettuce bun, I thought it would be an iceberg lettuce like other places I've been to. It was two pieces of lettuce that got soggy and I had to use a knife and fork trying not to get the paper from the basket on it. But they served it in a basket so it was difficult to cut. The waffle fries were cold. I was really hungry so took what I could get. Super disappointed after having high expectations and paying a lot. The servers were very friendly.

Google
Kimchi fries are really flavorful as expected and the burger has a really nice taste too. The only minor thing I personally felt was that it was a little greasy for my taste. Both, patty in the burger and fries. But as I said the test was really nice and so was the atmosphere and service.

Yelp
Food - burgers are great! I wouldn't have known this was a vegan spot unless someone told me because those burgers sure fooled me. Fries were alright. Might have been a bit too much for me, but great for people who want larger portions. Ambiance - very cute decor and clean look! You have a couple bathrooms downstairs as well Service - the standard, nothing to complain about

Yelp
Visited Burger Fiancé after walking around Old Montreal with a visiting friend. The line seemed long and slow to move, not because there were no available tables, but because there was only one person acting as hostess, server and bus person. When we did get seated, we had said we were expecting a 4th person (there were 3 of us to start) who would be arriving within minutes. We were given a bottle of water, and a few minutes later, 3 drinking glasses. About 5 minutes after that, we were asked what we would like to order. We hadn't yet seen a menu, so the server apologized and brought menus over. I explained that we were waiting for someone (again) and asked for a drink menu. Our 4th arrived, we hadn't been visited again yet by the server. A new server arrived about 15 minutes later to take our order. Spicy "Chicken" (was quite spicy), fiancé burger (delicious), and Old School burger (very tasty but messy), cauliflower bites (order these!!) along with a pitcher of beer and two sodas. We were told we could not order salad as they were out. We asked for no tomato on one burger and no mushrooms on another. They arrived with both, that modification was completely ignored. We were halfway finished eating before we got the sodas after we had to remind the server. We were not given cutlery or napkins. There are lovely live plants all around and the place is generally nice to sit in, especially the seat by the window. We will go again as the food was very good. Hoping they were just short staffed that d

Yelp
We had a terrific dining experience from start to finish. The Fried Chicken and Pulled Pork sandwiches were both incredible and filling. The sandwiches were jam packed with meaty bites, incredible sauces, and crunchy vegetables. The fries were thicker than I like, but still tasty. I subbed my fries for a Caesar side salad and that was a worthwhile investment--I highly recommend it. I wish I had saved room for one of their famous milkshakes but, alas, that was out of the question after finishing the mIn course. The service was good--our water was never empty, and the space was inviting.

Yelp
Dining method: Take-out Item(s) ordered: Fries and Cobb Salad (not pictured, Fiancé burger) Speed: Eh, not so fast. But so worth it. Value: Not cheap...but worth it. The Review: Burger Fiancé has rocked my world. I was in MTL, with no idea of what to eat, what was gluten-free. We were walking along and came across the oasis that is Burger Fiancé. It is a colorful and "hip" spot, with all vegan options, and most importantly gluten-free options. The Cobb salad was delicious, as were the very well-seasoned fries. I had zero self-control, so I did Uber Eats the following evening and got the Fiancé burger. Listen, when you find something good, why change it? I love this place, and it's reason enough for me to move to Montréal.

Yelp
Pulled pork burger was delicious but VERY messy. Lots of the components kept falling out. I also tried the vegan poutine side which was flavorful but a lot of food with the burger! Waiter was friendly and service average speed. Went during a time that the restaurant wasn't too busy.

Yelp
I love burgers of all kinds, so when looking for a dinner option at a busy time, we were happy to try Burger Fiance. I planned to order the double date (for the protein), but was advised towards the fiance burger. He said it was more bang for my buck. I'm not sure I agree, but I went his recommendation. It was tasty - the house patty is as good a veggie burger as I have ever had. I did it in lettuce without the onion ring. Overall, I think I should have chosen two patties. While I would not recommend the fiance burger, I WOULD recommend the Devotion - the choice of my wife. That is a 5 star burger that even the meatiest carnivores would enjoy. Yum yum. We also shared waffle fries for the table - excellent. The kids chose kids burgers (impossible) with cheese, although they forgot the cheese. Regardless, they gobbled them up! My daughter said, "5 stars." Only one complaint really is that you pay more ($2) for a lettuce wrapped burger. While I understand perhaps the added inconvenience, lettuce is super cheap and (in my opinion) should not be extra money like a gluten free bun (which is actually more expensive than a regular bun typically.) Lettuce is dedicatedly less expensive than a burger bun. But regardless, the Devotion earned 5 stars, along with the fries and kids burgers (so they tell me). Check it out, even if you love the beef! Oh! And the brownie-out of this word.

Yelp
Awesome location food and prices ! I would suggest the Fiancé burger as it's the best Pattie's, cheese and also toppings. I absolutely love their waffle fries also ! They are on Uber eats so if you are in the area order ahead to pick up. Also heck out the deals they have on Uber eats occasionally as they do have special promos. The staff is super friendly and I have never had an issue with them at all. Super polite and professional.

Yelp
Burger Financé serves the best vegan burgers in town! I wholeheartedly recommend them for their delicious flavors and exceptional accommodation of allergens. The restaurant's interior is not only beautiful but also sets the perfect atmosphere. The service is impressively fast, ensuring you can savor every bite of the delectable food. A must-try for any burger enthusiast!

Yelp
I think I came on an off day, and it's a shame because the fried chicken sandwich and waffle fries were incredible. We went in and the place was pretty much empty. Sat down and ordered drinks and food. Cocktails were poorly mixed and came way after the rest of the food when we were almost done. The Impossible Burger had way too much salt, to the point of there being clumps of salt just sitting in the burger. Again, the Fried Chicken was fantastic and the best I ever tasted. If that was all I ordered this review would be 5 stars, so maybe I'll just order that for takeout next time.

Yelp
First of all, Montreal is beautiful and I miss it every day. Second of all-- how lucky was it that I walked past a new vegan restaurant on my way to Old Port? Super lucky, I say! I was so hungry and dazed from the heatwave (I visited this place in late summer) the little "burger fiancé" sign beckoned me towards it, and I am so glad. I noticed upon entering that the staff were thoroughly sanitizing the tables and chairs, with another staff member letting me know that I can seat myself in any area that has been sanitized already. I really wanted to try their kimchi dog, but they were sold out :((( so I had the classic dog, waffle fries and a strawberry oat milkshake. The milkshake was so delicious and so surprisingly thick! The hot dog and waffle fries were pretty yummy-- I'm a sucker for pickled onions, so this was the perfect meal for me...I honestly can't stop imagining what the kimchi dog would taste like! This will definitely be one of my favourite places to revisit once I'm back in Montreal.

Yelp
We ordered via DoorDash and it was delivered pretty quickly. The waffle fries were delish, and the burger was okay. Only downside is their signature patty was pretty thin and didn't have a ton of flavor.

Yelp
PAM! Burger Fiancé has scrumptious vegan comfort food. And don't stress your compassionate little heart out because everything is vegan!! The decor is very Vieux-Port chic with beautiful exposed stone and cool neon light art. The service is friendly and knowledgeable and the chef is excellent. We ordered many many many items to sample and even got some extra onion rings which we didn't order but nevertheless enjoyed all the same. So, my favourite item was the fried chicken. Wow! That sure doesn't taste like a vegetable and trust me, I know vegetables. It doesn't taste like a mushroom either. Holy cow, Batman, as a lifelong vegetarian (born and raised) I've never tasted the flesh of animals and if you hadn't told me that I was eating shiitake mushroom "fried chicken" I'd have thought you were pulling my third leg. This was my first experience eating this ubiquitous and storied item of food. Fried chicken is super famous the world over from Korea to Thailand to Portugal to Kentucky, people have told tales of delicious fried chicken and I was always curious to see what all the fuss was about and now I know. It's deep fried goodness; with a little Cæsar sauce and coleslaw and pickle it's just scrumptious. Seriously, I could eat this all day and all night long. Put me in the cathlab right now. We also had the house cauliflower bites which was a nice bit of recognisable vegetable even if it was also deep fried. There were onion rings and a cheeseburger as well. Pam had the pulled pork sandwich which was made with more shiitake mushroom (I inferred that she found it a tad derivative especially after trying the shiitake chicken) although it was flavoured with a beautiful harissa which I thought was interesting. I quite enjoyed everything. I would come back here to try the kimchi fries, the kimchi dog, the chicken Cæsar salad, an oat milkshake and definitely more fried chicken!!!! I also had the blueberry cheesecake which was velvety and luxurious. Pam took me here. Pam was born on a Monday just like me. She's a brilliant and talented and beautiful scientist who has a knack for standup comedy. She's going to save the world with science. Pam is quite a delicious person who has a deftly good taste for delicious food. She's always teaching me smart new things and is a total babe who loves bartering and smashing the status quo. She's an excellent editor and looks forward to travelling extensively throughout China and Tibet. She will get her hair done at a natural hair salon somewhere in Beijing before taking the bullet train to Lhasa. She can be a naughty woman but is also a good girl who reads her mum the Bible at night. I love you, Pam, thanks for being you.

Yelp
Food was good but major fail for the lettuce bun. It was a complete mess and the lettuce was tiny compared to the burger contents, with everything falling out. It's definitely possible to do the lettuce bun correctly, especially when charging extra for it. If they fix this issue, this could be a solid place for those looking for the healthier burger option.

Yelp
Hey listen alright, I ain't vegan or vegetarian but when the food is good, the food is good. This place probably has one of the, if not the best non meat burger I've ever had the chance to shove in my mouth. This here be top vegan comfort food for me in Montreal. The décor is cute, staff is friendly and service was quick. If this is the kind of food I could eat everyday, I wouldn't be so sad to say goodbye to meat forever. o7

Yelp
This place was a random discovery for me. I was looking for a vegan place around downtown and burger seemed like a good idea although I have been disappointed in the past by other vegan burger joints. I ordered the " chicken " burger while my friend had the " cheese " burger and we shared an bowl of kimchi fries. Let me tell how pleasantly surprised I was. We would not be able to tell the difference between a meat and a vegan burger at this point. The burgers were juicy and flavourful and the fries were a great side. The kimchi wasn't too sour and complimented the fried well. Location isn't great as the terrasse is on a busy street with tons of loud cars and traffic but that wouldn't stop me from coming back and trying their other burgers. On top of that: very affordable!! It would honestly cost less than other burger joints (meat based and vegan). I highly recommend this place. My friend and I were completely full with a bill of less than 20$ each at the end.

Yelp
Ok first of all, they are open on Monday as it is Monday as I write this. One of the best vegan burger places I have been and I travel to Southern California a lot so that is saying something. Hubby had the soul sister and I had the vegan pulled pork. Pork was made from mushrooms but you would never know it! Both were outstanding. Also shared the kimchi fries which seem to be a thing here in Montreal and now I know why. Whoever thought of that idea was genius. Particularly good here because they have waffle fries which makes it easier to eat the kimchi and sauce on the fry. I loved this place. They do have some healthy options but why? Great place and concept!

Yelp
A good burger is worth spending a little bit extra, especially when it's one of the only places in town where a vegan can get cheese, mayo, AND bacon (something that A+W, Burgerking, and every regular burger spot seems to not get when marketing to the plant-based crowd.) I went for a cheezburger and ceaser salad. The burger was with the housemade patty. I have had Impossible before and it's reaaally too much like beef (stomach ache and all) so I wanted to see what Fiance was making in-house. I was not disappointed. I loved the cheez, the bacon wasn't overly liquid smoke-y (a common problem) and the vegetables were fresh. Awesome burger. The salad surprised me. The first flavour I got hit with- parmesan. And the CROUTONS! I have had many a mediocre crouton in my life, these ones were crunchy and buttery and amazing. Definitely above and beyond on the dressing and the croutons. This is a bold move for a vegan place, being around the corner from five guys. Burger Fiance will get my business every time! I wanna get my fill of their deep fried treats next time. XOXO

Yelp
This new vegan burger spot is legit! Their burgers are delicious and they even serve the impossible burger. Apparently their house made patty is great too. I'm always a bit sceptical when it comes to vegan food but wow the vegan cheese and sauces were full of flavour! Currently you can get takeout, and service was fast. I'm giving 5 stars because it was truly an amazing burger, but I gotta add that the pricing is definitely what you'd expect when it comes to vegan trendy food in old montreal. Pricy. Worth trying!

Shari S.

Yelp
Awesome, Walk in the door to great ambient music. Wonderful staff. Very helpful. Comfortable and homey. Now the food. Don't wait, run. Best vegan food we have had yet. Really great job gang. They suggested another sister restaurant nearby. DONT miss this is your VEGAN.
google avatar

Nikki O.

Yelp
Very tasty vegan burger, the best-seasoned waffle fries I've had in ages, friendly staff, and a nice, casual decor. They usually have gluten-free buns too, but had ran out when I asked them.

Alexa S.

Yelp
Excellent food. Their fiancé burger is out of this world !! Their chicken nuggets came a bit too well done but the taste and texture was overall great !
google avatar

Chala D.

Yelp
I ordered the burger of the month and was not disappointed I'm not vegan and I loved it more than a usual burger. They really know how to be creative and tasty with their menu items.
google avatar

Yelp
I have never been to the physical restaurant, but their house burger is so flavourful. My favourite plant based burger. Better than meat!
google avatar

Tash G.

Yelp
Chicken nuggets were burnt and overdone, Mac and cheese had no flavor. Burger was messy and very salty. Kimchi fries were the only good thing.

Yelp
This spot is amazing, the food is delicious and I have never tasted vegan that has an amazing taste. I tried the soulmate and pulled pork & fried chicken sandwiches there so good. There waffles are the best that flavors are amazing

Mia H.

Yelp
Literally so good, I've been so many times and have tried almost everything on the menu and they're all amazing. My absolute fav is their "pulled pork" sandwich. My sister even asked me if I was sure it was vegan because of how good it was lol. I definitely recommend that you try it out.
