Burger King Gives Free Impossible Burgers to Travelers Trapped by Flight Delays | Eater SF

"I found that as part of Burger King's 'Delay Your Way' promotion, in partnership with San Francisco–based Impossible Foods, travelers flying now through December 30 who enter their delayed flight information in the Burger King app receive a coupon for a free Impossible Whopper that can be redeemed at any U.S. Burger King — including airport locations; SFO has a Burger King in Terminal 3 where such a coupon could be used." - Eve Batey

Google
Let's be clear, this is an airport rating, graded on a curve if you will. My food was made to order. It was warm. It had all the right ingredients. The cost to add cheese was $1. The end result was a $12 (after a 5% employee benefit fee and tax) burger that wasn't half bad. I don't eat a lot of BK anywhere but I can't imagine a non-airport location doing any better. /Shrug

Google
SFO airport website listed this location as especially open until after 10pm. This is what the store looks like at 10:06: "Sorry, we're closed."

Kevin

Google
Good food and very good service. In 1 min food was ready.

bryan R.

Google
Even with the long lines the wait wasn't long. The staff was great and was nice to everyone I was around. Food was great as usual. If you got time stop buy and give it a try.

Lukas R.

Google
Expensive (prices are different from outside world), bad service, cold food, no refills, drink (coke) tastes weird, nothing from the app applies, refused to change the drink even after I complained after having a first sip that is didn't even tasted like coke. You are forced to pay 5% tip. No exceptions. Strongly do not recommend.

Ashley G.

Google
Staff at unfriendly and rude, even when it was quiet. Gave me the wrong order and said the cheese burger machine was broken, not sure how that could be broken.

Saw D.

Google
Their menu prices were lower than reality. I only found out they charged me more by looking at my receipt. The lady at the register got mad when I asked for a refund on the difference and told the chef not to put cheese on my burger- as if lying about the price was my fault. Also the price difference between the whopper meal and just the sandwich was literally $9.10. Absurd up charge for fries and a drink

Lucas R.

Google
Terrible experience, worse BK ever, not only they do not apply any of the offers or coupons, they don't do refills, I asked for regular coke, the water it was mixed with, was terrible, I took few sips and said it was tasting weird, asked to change it to sprite or fanta or Dr. Pepper, as the coke was tasting really bad, the lady said " No refill" and walked away, it's also more expensive and the food was cold, well not cold but room temperature. Place was filthy and woman in the kitchen was coughing a lot. I do not recommend, there are asian and other places cheaper and a lot better. No wonder it was empty even during busy morning hours. Chicken sandwich, med. coke and med fries $18.36. Totally not worth it.

Yelp
This is a Fast Food Restaurant. When I paid with my credit card The Point of Sale asked for Tips. Seriously? No one came to my table to take my order, brought me food and offered refills. Asked if I like my food or offered to put my leftovers inside a container. They just handed me a brown bag and did not even say Thank you. Why do they have the nerve to ask for a Tip? Pay your employees well and stop this Tipping nonsense!
google avatar

Cisko S.

Yelp
16% tax because they're electing to pass airport employee benefit directly to the customer. It's a Burger King for Christ sake, this location makes well into the 7 figure range or more. Take care of your own people, don't tax me extra, ridiculous $40 for two burgers.
google avatar

Sunil R.

Yelp
Familiar spot right by security. I had not had a BK breakfast in a super long time. The croissanwich is yummy...not good for my waist but good for my tongue. Nice cheerful lady at the counter.
google avatar

Susan M.

Yelp
It is a Burger King. I get a Whopper before every flight out of this terminal (even as early as 7am!) and it does the trick to hold me over for many hours. The metal water bottles are pretty clutch too. The line moves quite fast, and they aren't too stingy with the ketchup packets. What more could you want from a pre-flight meal? Added bonus: there are hand sanitizer stations near the tables by this restaurant, so you can gobble your Whopper with clean-ish hands.
google avatar

Jeff W.

Yelp
What a f'ing joke. A Whopper combo with small drink and fries $17.30. Only in a circus city like San Francisco would you find this kind of s' it show. And then they want you to tip on top of this ridiculously obscene price. Guess airport monopoly pricing in top of California's social nonsense is the only place in the world where a $5 combo meal is almost $20!
google avatar

Nguyen H.

Yelp
I bought a Take away burger with coke, anh taey give me a cold burger, it is not heat up. I can not eat.

Vijay B.

Yelp
Says open till midnight, shut down just after 10 and blocked off the line so no one could enter to order
google avatar

Kiana S.

Yelp
My flight was delayed so it gave me time to get some grub before going on the plane. I decided to get Burger King because I love fast food plus everything else at the airport is overpriced. I got the number five meal which consisted of a double bacon cheese burger, substituted the fries for onion rings, and Hi-C for the drink for a total of $14.99 which includes tax. Still pricy but not as expensive as the other options at SFO. If you're on a budget this is the place to be. The burger was so big that I couldn't even finish it. I only ate half of it. The onion rings are way better than the fries which are crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. Not many places near me sell Hi-C anymore so this was definitely a plus. The meal was satisfying and enjoyable.
google avatar

Bill A.

Yelp
Had breakfast, and it was exactly what I expected. The croissanwich was what you expect from Burger King. The hashed browns were hot and overflowing into the bag, leaving those trademark grease stains. The food was expensive, but it's the SFO airport, so of course it's expensive. But it had the advantage of being available very fast with a relatively short line, which worked for me because I only had 20 minutes after waiting in the super long TSA security lines that SFO has become infamous for. And though this is a simple thing, it's also an important one...the bag was already filled with plenty of ketchup packets and napkins when I grabbed it, meaning I didn't have to do the awkward wait for someone to acknowledge my existence just to get basic accoutrements (if you can use a French term when describing Burger King breakfast).
google avatar

Rick B.

Yelp
Your typical Burger King and I mean that in good way. This is probably the first food stand you pass in E gates once past security...you can look at the rest but they are mostly coffee and bar food. So look around and then come back for a Whopper. It was good and hot...and now this Burger King also sells beer. Burger and a beer anyone?
google avatar

J.d. H.

Yelp
NASTY BURGER was super greasy and tasted horrible save yourself the $11.20 for just the bacon king and go some place worth the money
google avatar

Teena N.

Yelp
Quick service, friendly staff. Airport price (more expensive) Nuggets tasted overcooked. Boyfriend had the spicy nuggets and his looked over cooked too. Usually they are juicy. This tasted super dry. After we ordered, the food came out 2 minutes after. Super duper quick.
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
Picked up a filet crispy chicken sandwich here and it was priced reasonably under $6. The staff here weren't that friendly and just focused on taking your order. Waiting for my order took 15 minutes but at least the food was made fresh and it was hot.

Steve t.

Yelp
Read the bad reviews and everything they say is exactly what I have had the last two times! First time was a chicken sandwich that was recycled. Cold and lifeless! Something that should be thrown in the garbage but yet they serve me. Tonight they gave me a Bacon king. 10 bucks and when I took the second bite, I realized that I'd probably get sick if I ate it. Should've taken a picture but I was so frustrated. I went back to the counter and told her this does not look anything like the picture. I didn't want another one, so I just left it on the counter and walked away telling the other people that this food was garbage. I don't put out bad reviews, but this place deserves to close down.
google avatar

Brett J.

Yelp
I did not have anything here... it is Burger King and generally I don't eat fast food like this much anymore. However I was blown away to see that this location sells beer!!! A BK selling beer?!? Really?? I might just eat at one if that became he norm! I will be looking out for this in my future travels... woooohoooo beer at BK!
google avatar

Alex F.

Yelp
Unbelievably fast service, and they have beer. Yes, I know it's BK, but after a 5 hr flight with no food. Burger King was a welcome sight. Had me on my way in less than 5 min and made it to baggage claim before the bags came out!
google avatar

Jonathan Z.

Yelp
A BK with airport prices. Recently, I unfortunately did a lot of eating at the airport. BK is one of the few places that you could get a meal for under 10 bucks. Basically, it's expensive, the service is OK, and the food is on par with what you get at BK's outside of the airport. Fine by me.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
The usual burger in a Airport with no accommodations Its definitely not have it your way. Our way or nothing. Lol
google avatar

Nic Z.

Yelp
Super fast service, okay food and prices (for an airport). Their breakfast sandwiches are really small but tasty. The only "fast food" I eat is Egg McMuffins from McDonald's; Burger King's breakkie was good by comparison. They're definitely different, but I enjoyed it!
google avatar

Durell B.

Yelp
Haven't been to a BK in a while and it's obvious their menu has changed over the years but I decided to go with the bacon king burger. While having very low expectations (because what place gives you a burger that looks like the picture?). Anyway, expectations are low when it comes to fast food and even lower when you talk about fast food in an airport lol. The burger itself was flat and unappealing and the fries were fairly crispy but again, I didn't think there was a 3 star Michelin chef back there to begin with. It was edible enough to eat while at the airport. I will say that the service was pretty quick. I'm sure they have their system down because that line can get long. That's all folks!
google avatar

Debbie F.

Yelp
I ordered a Whopper Jr & a side of fries. I went to eat it and it was COLD!!!!Not even warm or edible! I walked back to complain . The cashier & the other lady just looked @ me after I told them the meal was COLD. ! I waited for them to do something- remake, refund , respond- nothing! There was only 1 other person there, so they were not busy . Horrible customer service!!! I had to catch a flight , so I left. I tried calling the phone# on the receipt to speak to a manager or someone. No one ever answers the phone. These employees are horribly trained , unprofessional . I did the survey on the back of receipt & asked to be contacted - still waiting . I would not have even given 1 star.
google avatar

Derek B.

Yelp
Great option for a quick bite to eat when at a hurry at SFO! True, the food isn't as good as sit-down options at the airport but it's fast food and BK opens up at 4:30am which other restaurants at SFO would do well to mimic since SOME FLIGHTS ARE AT 6AM!

Russ F.

Yelp
Was in SFO early around 6AM. Short line, ordered food. Sandwich was ice cold, tater tots ice cold. Coffee was OK.
google avatar

Bert G.

Yelp
Burger King at SFO was the only food stop doing any business in Terminal 3 at SFO. Everyplace else was open, but devoid of customers. I always avoid empty eateries. So, being a famished traveler, I ordered a Whopper Meal. It was fine, the burger was fresh and loaded with lettuce and tomato, the fries and Coke were just like any other BK. It cost over $11 with the 11% in taxes added. One nice touch, they provide mayo as a condiment, along with ketchup and mustard. The staff was quite efficient and friendly. Man, that burger hit the spot ! I'm a fan.
google avatar

Hen A.

Yelp
united terminal 3 and assigned to gate 74...burger king near...#4 ham, egg and cheese croissant sandwich meal $7.97 total..meal including standard cup of coffee and tator tots...line moving quickly, but a lengthy wait for calling and food to be ready...this location is always generous with the tots and fries, but the breakfast sandwich was cold...tots were hot and good...and, they sell draft beer!
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
I was in San Francisco for a 3 and a half hour layover and I didn't feel like walking around the entire airport to find a place to eat, this Burger King was right near my gate and there was no line so I just decided to come here. $14 for a small meal.... although I'm not surprised because airport food is always overpriced. My food was lukewarm at best but I really just didn't have the energy to say anything about it so I just ate it. Also the menu is pretty limited compared to a standard Burger King drive thru. Meh.

Yelp
After being in Beijing, China for over a week, and only eating Chinese food while there - Burger King is strategically placed in the SFO Airport right between the domestic and international terminals. Right after going to customs & immigration, I found Burger King! Whopper with cheese, fries, and a diet coke @ 7:30 a.m. (It was 10:30 China time). I paid a bit under $10 for my combination meal. It was a bit expensive, but expected for airport prices. Fries were super hot and tasty. The whopper was actually very very cold, but I didn't care at that point. Diet coke had a nice kick to it! I've fulfilled my 1x a year eating at Burger King quota!

Yelp
Ha! Yelpers will review anything...hence this sixth review of a Burger King in the United terminal area at SFO. Having been in the land of expensive soft drinks and sh*tty exchange rate, I was happy to be back in the US and stumble across this tiny stereotypical bastion of American fast food. Daughter was craving a fountain drink and a rootbeer at that. Try finding rootbeer overseas. You can't. Anyway, having walked all the way to Gate 90 and not finding any other kid-friendly and cheap places besides this Burger King, I didn't mind paying the $2.50 for a small cup. Refills are free so we got our fill of rootbeer, Sprite and Coca Cola (helps with jetlag). After the fourth refilled cup of soda and having ransacked my carry on for all the freebie plane food (pretzels, rice crackers, sandwiches, cookies), it was a small, dingy but satisfying break. Bless the USA with their high fructose corn syrup all-you-can-drink soda fountains!

Kurt H.

Yelp
They close at 10:30, not midnight. I'm giving one star for not keeping their hours updated here.
google avatar

Edward L.

Yelp
One of the few decent places to get a cheap meal in Terminal 3. Yes, I looked. Thanks goodness for BK. Good - nice and quick. No lineups here. Bad - lineup forms in front of seating area. But this is probably more of a space problem. But what's this 1% EE tax they slap on everything? I want my nickel back. And not the band.
google avatar

Jay T.

Yelp
Big thumbs down for this place. Its inside the terminal and people will be looking to grab something quickly before boarding. But my experience was terrible, they somehow forgot to serve my food. I had to remind them couple of times and wait for 10 mins to get my food. I could see people ordered after me, have already got the food before me. Finally when I got the food, I have to see the unpleasant face of the lady whom I have asked for my food as if I have done something wrong there. And have to say, I got a cold terrible chicken sandwich.. after waiting for 10-12 mins, a cold sandwich. I'm a frequent flyer and I am gonna avoid this place...
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Breakfast is the best meal here at Burger King because their sandwiches made from croissants, eggs etc are not as oily as their burgers. Service at this location is fast and the cashiers are friendly. The price is as expected for airport food but is still the cheapest at SFO.
google avatar

Dion L.

Yelp
Awful service. Wrong Orders. Go to the nicer food courts closer to gates 76-90, they're timely and have better food options. Asked for 2 double sausage egg McMuffin got 2 single Bacon McMuffins...definitely takes advantage of the fact that ppl have places to go and being hungry and overcharged with the wrong order first thing in the morning is pretty awful way to start a flight.
google avatar

Andrew M.

Yelp
The staff is rude here like many of the staff throughout the airport. Not sure what it is but they are very short with you. I ordered a whopper and some nuggets and left to the bathroom. I lost my receipt so I when they were calling out a number, I repeated my order to them. She kept repeating the number and refused to look at the order. Thank you for the great service. Smh
google avatar

Tim J K.

Yelp
Food and service sucked. Luke warm, at best, old breakfast croissants. Inept employees didn't know what a breakfast whopper was and were too ignorant to put an egg on a burger. I'd rather eat airline food then go here again.
google avatar

Wanugee N.

Yelp
If you are flying UA out of gate 74/75 in Terminal 3 at SFO, this is the closest place to grab some food to go ('cus you ain't getting anything to eat in the air! Not even peanuts or pretzels!). This is a small BK right across the aisle from gates 74/75, usually gates for Ted or UA flights in the west within a 2 hour flight (PDX, SEA, PHX, LAX, etc) You will pay about $1 - $2 more than your usual combo meal not in an airport, depending on whether you "Go Large" or "Go King" or "Stay Normal"! The best part about this place is that there are about 9 small tables to sit and eat, so you don't need to Lap-a-Meal in the black gate chairs, but you can still hear the announcements of your flight being delayed! The other good thing is that next to this BK are 4 work desk kiosks for you road warriors checking your email or Yelping it up! Its like a bargain Red Carpet Club with hot food instead of the drink ticket , fruit and a newspaper for $400 a year! Can I find a bargain executive lounge or what!
google avatar

Al S.

Yelp
Why 4 stars? Value. In an airport full of expensive food, you can get a double whopper for $7.50, tax included. Plus they serve beer. And not just yellow water masquerading as beer. Real beer, from local breweries like 21st Amendment and Anchor. Also, they are open later than most restaurants at SFO. So if you land, starving, since you refused to pay $15 for cheese and crackers in a "box dinner", this is your place to go.
google avatar

Ann V.

Yelp
RUDE LITTLE OLD FILIPINA LADY! After a long day of travel you seriously do not need someone screaming at you to get up and leave because a Burger King stand it closing. Also, I was sitting infront of some hook she was going to attach a rope to close off the area and she just kept staring at me while she slammed the little door for the hook on my chair in order for me to move. Anyways, I ended up writing a very angry complaint to Burger King!
google avatar

Joseph F.

Yelp
Definately in the top 5 worst bks ever! WTF! It's 7 am... I'm tired, cranky, sad I gotta leave my woman... All I want is part of a tasty (since it sure isn't nutricious) breakfast!! Now, I'm not much of a stickler, and in fact I love bk breakfast. Whenever I drive to tahoe it's the obvious morning snack choice. This place had cold tater tots, shittier coffee, and I dunno how bu they messed up the croissandwich! It's a freaking formula and they messed it up! Worst part? Higher prices to boot!! If I wasn't flying I'd never eat here... But then I guess who would?
google avatar

Sid W.

Yelp
Super long line and food was sub par. Think its more expensive then outside airport. Other stuff is also expensive
google avatar

Chrysanthemum A.

Yelp
WORST BURGER KING EVER!! No wonder the Burger King mascot lost his crown. Fast food at PDX is better. For the most part, I LIKE the food at SFO. They have a good selection;the food court is diverse. This is a standout as being some of the worst fast food I've ever had, with some awful service (yet the servers sometimes get consoled by customers who say "wow, what bad attitudes you deal with") My breakfast sandwich was soggy&flaccid. It hung limply in my hands. The tater tots and coffee were the only redeeming aspects. My coffee got totally forgotten... so when I called it to their attention... I was ignored. So I repeated myself like a scratched CD. It took longer to get my coffee, and they didn't seem to have that figured out. A customer behind me argued with the server about the prices being wrong. They screwed up the order (surprise surprise) I'll stick with the other restaurants. SFO does have the best food court for an airport. I'll go back there. I did a customer survey for Burger King, helpfully informing of them of their terrible service at SFO.

Uncle Fishbits Aeneas X.

Yelp
1) review chains or not? yes. Mallory climbed the Everest because it was there. This review is no different, and I don't have to train for it. 2) See my Boudin airport review for balance here 3) it's bad. But it is consistently bad, and I expect it. I eat here when I am about to die and can barely stand due to the travel chaos. Awful... but you know what you will get. There is definitely something to be said for consistency.
google avatar

George M.

Yelp
Home of the whopper my ass! If theres a big illuminated sign that says Home of the Whopper and its featured on your menu than I should be able to or der one. Even if its 6:30 in the morning. It is an airport. Just because it's morning at sfo doesnt mean it's morning time for some passengers arriving from the east coast. Why can i get a beer for breakfast here and not a whopper who knows? Everybody knows Burger King's breakfast options taste like junk anyways. "Have it your way" is the feeling i had with the person running the cash register when i left. The hell with you i say calling yourself "Burger"King, i sure as hell couldnt order one. Should just change your name to Chicken abortion sandwiches and brews since it's all you had to offer me.
google avatar

Justin L.

Yelp
Absolute worst Burger King I've seen around and possibly the worst airport fast food. The service... inexcusable. I have never seen a place take orders slower than this BK. When some orders went wrong, the cashier was complaining about the customers. After the customers walked away, she started complaining in her native tongue to other co-workers. If you're unhappy, at least keep it private. Overall, I'll never visit this BK again.
google avatar

Alex F.

Yelp
Beer on tap and friendly staff, but some of the grossest food (by BK standards). Come here for a quick fix, but spend the extra five bucks anywhere else for decent food, will be worth it.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Absolute crap!!!! Half of my wife's bun was hard. I think they changed the grease in the fryer last year. I also think they made the fries last week. My chicken thing was horrible. I'm not a food snob, but I wish I bough a sandwich from one of the delis.

David J.

Yelp
Ordered a salad. Got on the airplane. Two hours into my flight I realize they did not provide a fork. Thanks Burger King
google avatar

Diane S.

Yelp
Yay for cheap food at the airport! A little far for domestic but sandwiches for breakfast before you're flight is under $4
google avatar

Joyce F.

Yelp
yuck. i should have known better than to get food from here. i did pick this place since there wasn't a line and i needed a quick bite. i ordered the breakfast burrito combo. staff friendly enough. i put the bad in my purse but then noticed grease was seeping through the bag and although i wasn't expecting to eat it right there i did since the bag wasn't going to last much longer. the tater tots weren't tasty at all and i just ate a few. the burrito was huge but they didn't put salsa in it. the salsa is in a package on the side. i wasn't going to unwrap it in the airport to put the salsa on so the burrito was uneventful. won't be back.
