13 Places to Grab Great Milkshakes in Nashville | Eater Nashville

"The ‘virgin’ shakes at this popular burger joint, which now boasts locations in The Gulch, Lenox Village, and Mt. Juliet, are already respectable, but their alcohol-spiked shakes are what really set it apart from the competition. Try the evil s’mores with marshmallow vodka or the Reese’s malt featuring house-infused Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup vodka." - Delia Jo Ramsey

This place was absolutely amazing! The atmosphere was great and our waiter was amazing. Food was quick, fresh, and was great quality. The sweet potato tots tasted real and so did the meat. I ordered the Hawaiian burger and it was a perfect blend of sweetness and savory.

Service was good. The restaurant was clean. Plenty of seating both inside and outside. Wheelchair friendly Prices are comparable to restaurants in surrounding area. Parking behind restaurant. First hour free, $8hr after. My burger was just okay. It was lacking seasoning. The pickles, jalapenos and tots were fried hard. This way is not my preference but others may like it. I have been to other BR and i will say that those were much better.

Google
🍔 Burger Lovers, Take Note! 🍔 Just found an amazing burger spot that does it RIGHT! They have a wide range of burgers to choose from, or you can build your own just like I did. The best part? They actually have pretzel buns—which are surprisingly hard to find! I created my own original burger, and everything was on point: ✅ Meat cooked to order ✅ Fresh ingredients ✅ Super fast service ✅ Friendly staff It’s rare to find a spot that nails both quality and customization, but this place does! I’ll definitely be back. If you’re a burger fan, you NEED to check them out! 🍔🔥

Google
The place was very empty, I think we were at one of 3 tables, the service was very rushed. It's definitely not the vibe we were looking for. We were just trying to sit and have a drink, but we were pushed to order, pay, etc. We also ordered drinks and food from their happy hour menu (during happy hour) and then did not receive the discount, so I wasn't thrilled about that, but it wasn't a huge difference. The food was pretty good, they were very fast. This might be a personal preference, but I ordered their dry cider, and it was not very dry. Overall, I probably wouldn't go back just because there are so many options in Nashville that are better priced/nicer atmosphere.

Google
A nice burger spot in Nashville! Service was great, food tasted fresh, which was also presented looking great as well. The atmosphere of the entire restaurant was laid back and easygoing with an urban vibe. The spot had a pretty decent look bar area that was well organized and clean. A nice clean restaurant is always something I look for when rating something decently, and this deserves that "good" rating. I would recommend this establishment for a family night out or a casual date spot. BTW, parking is decent with a pay by the hour parking garage down on the corner that is monitored by security. Enjoy!

Google
Hands down the best burger I have ever had!! I got the 4 cheese garlic bacon burger and it had so much favor! We sat in the bar and the bartender had great service, super friendly.

Google
The location, based on Google Maps, was a bit off but once we found the restaurant it was nestled in a cute corner where we enjoyed the singing of a young woman. The outside patio area is nice despite the large piece of construction machinery out front. We chose to eat inside where we ordered the jumbo chicken wings, in Memphis dry rub and oh my goodness they were so good. The turkey burger is what we decided to eat as our entree along with Nashville hot tots. Everything was seasoned well and the service of our waitress was exceptional. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you're looking for some where nice with a slower, quieter pace than Broadway.

Yelp
We decided to check out Burger Republic in Nashville, and let me tell you, it was a crowning achievement in our culinary conquests! Right from the get-go, our waitress, Hannah, stole the show. Not only was she super friendly, but she also had us laughing with her quick wit and burger puns that were cheesier than their deluxe burger - and that's saying something! The burgers? Oh, the burgers! Each bite was like attending a juicy jubilee in your mouth. They've definitely mastered the art of making your taste buds dance a little jig of joy. And the fried chicken on the salad? Breaded to perfection! It's like they plucked the chickens from the 'Poultry Hall of Fame' and gifted them a crispy, golden coat that crunches oh-so satisfyingly with every bite. All in all, Burger Republic doesn't just serve food; they serve smiles, a dash of laughter, and a whole lot of yum. A hearty shoutout to Hannah for making our dining experience one for the history books. Can't wait to go back and declare my allegiance to their burger monarchy once again! If you're in Nashville and looking for a place to quench your burger thirst, give Burger Republic a royal visit. You won't regret it!

Yelp
Good burger, good salad, nice service. Nothing super special that I noticed except the shape of the salad bowl was very helpful. My husband had a bbq cheeseburger. I had a grilled chicken salad with strawberries and almonds. Both were good and satisfying.

Yelp
As I write this burger house review, I take a moment to acknowledge the crispiest, tastiest tater tots I've ever had. You will thank me for this. It was my first time trying sweet potato tots, and I savored every last bit. As for the burgers, our orders were made to perfection. We had the West Texas and the Burger Republic, both perfectly juicy and flavorful. They had gluten-free buns, which elevated our experience. Service was impeccably fast and friendly. Our server was pleasantly conversational. I recommend Burger Republic for its incredibly tasty food, friendly service and pleasant atmosphere.

Yelp
Great service, waitress was super attentive. The hamburgers were very very good. We didn't have any beer but they had several different options on tap. Restaurant was clean. Great lunch place..

Yelp
Simply put this was a world-class burger that I have to put in my top 10 of all time. We got lucky and scored a curbside parking place right in front of the location. Sitting outside on an awesome June day in the Gulch enjoying a great burger being served by awesome staff and very fair prices was a great way to spend lunch in Nashville.

Yelp
Pretty cool place over all. Definitely gives the local burger and beer joint experience. The wings were great and so was my partners burger. The truffle tots & crab dip were good but underwhelming. Tots a bit too greasy for my liking but it is a burger joint so it's to be expected. Overall good service and good burgers
google avatar

Yelp
This spot is a nice break from some of the more upscale, pricey spots in the Gulch! Our server was really nice and funny, and the atmosphere is pretty casual and laidback. I liked that they had Impossible pat to make any burger vegetarian! The burgers weren't the most flavorful, and the shake wasn't very exciting, but I would return again to try some different options
google avatar

Yelp
Cool vibes - would be a great place to watch a sports game (go Chiefs!). Took longer than expected for our food to come especially since it was pretty empty at the place. Food came out piping hot (i legit burnt my tongue) and tasted fresh. A nice crisp on the chicken in the sandwich. I enjoyed my bacon ranch chicken sandwich but just wished the waiter informed me of a $2 upcharge for sweet potato tots as a side.

Yelp
I found myself at Republic burger in downtown Nashville about 45 minutes before closing. I was instructed to place my order at the bar if I wanted to eat. On this particular Wednesday there was only one other table being occupied and it was rather quite. The atmosphere was geared towards takeout at this time, but I wanted to sit down and eat. I ordered a classic burger (cooked medium) with fried egg on top. I was given a classic burger cooked medium well. This was not a huge deal, but I did find this burger underwhelming and I was very hungry. When I pay over $10 for a burger, I expect something to be special about it! The bar seemed like a cool place to have drinks, but not enough to entice me to return.

Yelp
I love, love, LOVE this burger joint!! I've gone many times just for the Tater Tot Fondue alone! I've been banging a gong for years telling everyone they have to try this place! Highly recommend! Five stars!

Yelp
Super nice quiet place near broadway! We went on a saturday night and it was not busy at all! The food and service was great! My whole family had burgers and loved them and i had the texas hot chicken tenders, super good!

Yelp
Wonderful outside seating area! We started with the Philly Egg Rolls, and they were really good. The sauce wasn't really needed. We had the Republic Burger, which was not very distinctive and small. Hey, how much more would a half point burger cost? We subbed the salad with the fries - great salad. Our host was so warm and welcoming and the server did a a great job, Brittany.

Tony P.

Yelp
The burger and fries were average. There was nothing special about them. The fries could have been a bit better for a burger based restaurant. The venue was nice with plenty of seating, but there was a fair wait for food.
google avatar

Riley H.

Yelp
Wanted something lighter so I ordered the fried chicken salad with grilled chicken instead. No upcharge for switching to grilled chicken - love that! Salad was delicious and bacon ranch dressing was yummy too. I was only slightly disappointed by the size of the salad ... I thought it would be a bit bigger given the $17 price. Although please note that the picture attached is not an accurate representation of the size of the salad (phone did NOT eat first) but the original salad was still pretty small. Great takeout service!
google avatar

Gale S.

Yelp
Everything was great, burgers, beer cheese, tator tots for dipping, what's not to like... BBQ Salmon salad was very good. Service was impeccable and super friendly.

Dino H.

Yelp
The only real reason people come to Burger Republic, is because there is typically zero wait. It explains so much why there is no wait, once you taste the food. Their burger was almost as bland as the atmosphere. We sat down around noon, and by the time our food and drinks were delivered, it felt like we were eating dinner. As badly as we wanted to leave, it took us even longer to exit the premise as even the bill was slow to arrive at our table. Avoid this establishment.

Yelp
Family night for the Preds game and we decided to try a burger joint fairly close so we could relax and enjoy before the game. Here's what we found: Ambiance: Traditional burger joint motif / posters / sayings / lights on the walls and the tables were basic seating. Lighting was good and the menu was digital so bring your phone... Service: Our server was friendly, professional, cheerful and prompt - she had us seated and drink orders taken quickly. Food order was done promptly after drinks and she also brought the food quickly (wasn't busy when we arrived about 5pm) Food: Food was very good. Tennessee burger was really juicy and perfectly done. My wife's chicken sandwich was also tasty and the tots and garlic fries were good also. My son had the sliders and was disappointed that they weee so small but he said they were done well at least. Price: Typical burger joint pricing.....drinks were a bit high but we were in the gulch so that made sense. About $75 for 4 people. Summary; Great area location and overall a good spot for a bite before a game and or a after one. It's average overall for pricing but it was good. Keep Munching!!!

Heather E.

Yelp
Amazing service and food! Highly recommend fried pickles/peppers, shakes, burgers and hot chicken sandwich.
google avatar

Brooklynn K.

Yelp
Pros: sat down quickly, good server, loved tots as a side without paying extra, delicious boozy shake, and moderately priced. Cons: nothing special about the burger. The meat itself lacked flavor. We had a medium rare burger that came out as tartar basically. Thankfully the server understood and the next one that came back was perfectly cooked. Would recommend for shakes and watching a game with a good beer but not a classic burger.
google avatar

Zinnia G.

Yelp
Amazing food I totally recommend the Cheese Garlic Bacon Burger Jack Daniels Burger and side salad 10/10
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
Delicious! I got the Tennessee Burger, and it was great. The servers here were also very kind and super accommodating. The only con I would say is that the burgers are slightly pricey (~$16).
google avatar

Rico P.

Yelp
Ordered the Tennessee burger and could not taste the smoked ketchup or the Jack Daniel's honey glaze. Good bun but very bland burger overall. They do have a good selection of draft beers and some delicious shakes that are alcohol infused. I also got the tots with fondue that were pleasant. The garlic fries were just okay. The decor was neat and clean but nothing unique or special. The server was fast and friendly. Based on the service, I would give them a second chance but select a different burger and appetizer. Finding a good burger In Nashville is hard; if you're looking for a sure thing then I recommend The Pharmacy.
google avatar

Big Dee R.

Yelp
The service was very good. Brandy was awesome and attentive. We landed on The Tennessee Burger...super juicy, flavorful, and amazing! The brioche bun was perfect pillowy heaven. The fondue tater tots that you can barely see in the photo...we DEMOLISHED! So crispy, cheesy, and perfect!!!
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
Used to be so good when it first came to Nashville. Recently the food has been cold and dry. There are so many good burger places in Nashville... you can skip this one. The star of the show here are the boozy shakes!
google avatar

C L.

Yelp
We were seated quickly and our waitress promptly took our orders. So far so good. Unfortunately that was the last time we saw our waitress. I got the classic sliders minus the onions and my food was very good. My husband got The Tennessee burger which was sub-par--the bacon wasn't cooked properly and who wants chewy bacon on a burger? I REALLY would've liked a drink refill but as I said, the waitress went MIA. She finally showed back up to give us the bill. I will not be returning.

Yelp
Came to nashville for a few days and tried this burger joint. Highly recommend it if your in town. Great burgers and phenomenal shakes

Kayla C.

Yelp
Great spot in the Gulch for a tasty burger! We sat outside and had a good experience. I had the bacon cheese burger, it didn't come with bacon which I did still get charged for but I couldn't tell because of the mobile pay machines (bummer) but overall I would visit again. My strawberry lemonade cider was also amazing!

Nisha R.

Yelp
Biscuit loves line was wrapped around so we decided to check out Burger Republic! Service was awesome, everyone was very kind. We ordered the west coast burger and the 4 cheese garlic. The Tator tots were bomb but I don't think I'd pay to get them upgraded to truffle again. The west coast burger was delish but the 4 cheese garlic was a bit too oily and the flavor was a little too overpowering. Got the ABC milkshake and it was pretty yummy but no way we could finish it after that meal haha. Would return!

Asher P.

Yelp
Great burger place with good food and service. I would suggest the burger republic on a pretzel bun. Fun and casual place with good food.

Yelp
Fantastic burger option here in Nashville. They have many types of burgers here, and I haven't had a bad one yet! The Tennessee is my favorite. Most importantly, they have gluten free buns here! I even came here with someone who had a dairy allergy, and the staff could not have been nicer ensuring that the burger was made safely. Above all, you have to get the tots as a side. They are so crispy and fresh! The shakes are great, but if you have a nut allergy beware of any of the milkshakes, as the waiter told me that they cannot guarantee that their cannisters will be washed out between each use.

Yelp
Well, in all fairness I didn't eat a burger here, but my husband and a friend sat outside on the decent sized patio to have drinks for an hour. The tables all had umbrellas and they were not cramped, and the ammo boxes for the condiments were cool, but unless someone was cooking brushes sprouts the whole time nearby, I'm pretty sure that there was a sewer manhole around that was off-gassing an unpleasant amount that tainted the experience. Inside looked cool, and if I were a local, I'm sure I'd try the burgers. In fact our local friend Geoff P. (who plays Saxophone in a quartet at Rudy's Jazz room) said they were good. But the drinks weren't watered down and the waitstaff was nice, so I'll give it an average review and 3 stars.

Rondal H.

Yelp
Good was excellent and the service was outstanding. Very knowledgeable on menu. Even changed the menu while we was there due to a printing error. Highly recommended!!

Yelp
Including the pic of truffle tots. Picture might not look great but I think I would die for these tots and burger republic. Biggest fan

Yelp
We stopped in here this morning as we had arrived early to our loft reservation. We were greeted immediately and with a smile. We sat at the bar with Jonathan. He was a friendly bartender. It seemed like a place with nice teamwork as we witnessed some of that going on. Very nice suggestions and descriptions on food. We loved the brunch menu that they are offering right now. I love eggrolls of all kinds so with Jonathon's suggestion matching that, we went for it. So I had a mimosa that was nicely balanced. The brunch egg rolls and a side of gravy. It was definitely SO GOOD, Bette than I expected actually. The egg rolls had a nice balance of protein and not overpowered with the cheese. The gravy was a great top off for them. I definitely suggest giving this place a try when you're in the area. The prompt polite service, food quality and cleanliness and friendliness certainly deserve the 5 starts.
google avatar

James J.

Yelp
The burger was good. The specialty shake was really good. The service was amazing. The ambiance was the only down side. Other guests were loud, drunk, and unruly. But, what do you expect in Nashville at night?

Erica E.

Yelp
I tried Burger Republic for the first time tonight. I ordered the Original sliders with tater tots and a chocolate oreo shake. 10/10 recommend! My server Ramsey was knowledgeable, attentive and really funny! Earnest, the manager, came by to see how everything tasted and he too was an absolute delight to talk to. If you are in the area, definitely stop by!

C C.

Yelp
Fantastic burger, tasty sides and an ice cold creamy milkshake. Great place to stop and eat. Gluten free buns were spot on

Yelp
Wait, I'm confused as to why I haven't already reviews this place. I've been here a handful of times. This last time was just as good as the rest. Even with social distancing parameters. We went at the perfect time because we didn't wait for a table. I ordered the Apple pie moonshine shake. Holy moly. It was delicious and I can see how it could be dangerous. I had the burger republic and it was delicious and cooked perfectly. got the truffle tots and yumm. The game changed though was the sweet potato tots. Holy yum. Seriously one of my fav burger joints.

Tyler B.

Yelp
Food was good, but the people were better. I've never felt so welcomed in a restaurant before. Albeit, I'm from the burbs of Chicago, I'd come back just for the staff. Coral (hoping I spelt it right) was phenomenal. She went above and beyond in trying to help me find things to do on my trip. Very personable and easy to talk to. The man who I'm assuming is the owner, was very kind in assisting me find live music. And the host was swell with tattoos I enjoyed very much. Also, the fact the name is a play on Banana Republic is just awesome

Tashley A.

Yelp
The absolute besttttttt beef ever!! I would recommend for brunch. Less crowded than the rest of the Gulch!! Staff friendly.. drinks hitting!!! If I'm Nashville, stop by!

Blair B.

Yelp
Burger Republic has the best turkey burger in town HANDS DOWN. I always get The Tennessee as a turkey burger and it is fantastic. It's always cooked perfectly and is full of flavor. Not dry at all. I don't know what kind of magic they put into the mac & cheese, but it is divine. You will not be disappointed! If you are able to save room, I highly recommend a shake for dessert. The smores and the peanut butter are both faves. Love this place!

Yelp
We were in Nashville for an appointment and figured it would be a good time to give Burger Republic a try. We arrived shortly before they opened and waited outside at one of the tables until it started raining and we went inside to wait. They sat us promptly and gave us some time to check out the menu. Lots of burgers and such to choose from but we made up our minds...I ordered the West Texas Burger with Tots and my wife ordered the West Coast Burger with House Chips. Our food came out pretty quickly as the place was starting to get busy with the lunch crowd. The brioche buns on both burgers were so soft and fresh. My burger was delicious, not quite as spicy as I thought it would be with the habenero cheese, jalapeno slices, and spicy BBQ sauce...but the meat was nice and juicy. Pressed (not smashed) thin so it got all the carmelization crispness on the edges. Was a little let down by the tots because they're just tots...I was expecting some housemade tots, but hey...it is what it is. My wife's West Coast Burger (minus letter & tomato) was, as she said, delicious. She said it was just like the smashburgers we make at home on our Traeger with the Griddle Hack insert. I stole a few House Chips from her and it made me wish I ordered those instead of the tots because they were really good. We finished things off with two shakes for the road. I ordered the Assassination By Chocolate while my wonderful wife ordered the Salted Caramel. Both shakes were delicious. I am a huge fan of all things chocolate and this shake did not disappoint! Great spot and a great location for all those people lined up down the street to get a picture of themselves with the big wings! Highly recommend. Would love to say we'll be back, but we try to visit different spots when we're in Nashville...but, again, it's definitely a spot you should try if you're looking for a tasty burger after walking around The Gulch.

Yelp
Thank you fellow Yelpers for leading us to this solid burger joint! The average of 4.5 stars did not lead us astray :) Firstly, out waitress was excellent - 5-star service (and her cool Irish accent was the charming cherry on top). Secondly, the menu had something for everyone (beef, chicken, turkey, veggie, etc.) and the amazing burger "ensembles" absolutely necessitated return visits. I opted for The West Coast burger with avocado added (avocado makes nearly everything better, right?) - reminiscent of my Cali days and love of In n Out burgers; hubby went for the West Texas burger (I loved the bbq sauce on there!); and our friend loved the Black n Bleu burger (who doesn't love blue cheese crumbles on a burger?!?!). Now, I tend to steer away from tater tots as an adult just because I OD'd on them as a kid, but when I say you MUST try their Nashville Hot tater tots, you MUST try these tots They were amazing and seasoned to perfection. And let me not forget to mention their shakes! My Salted Carmel shake was from heaven. Not too rich or "heavy" - just the perfect blend of sweet and salty caramel flavor with vanilla ice cream deliciousness!! Don't cheat yourself and not try a shake if - no, not if, but when you go ;) I'd also like to send many thanks to our waitress and manager. When we realized they'd accidentally gave me the West Texas with avocado instead of the West Coast with avocado, she quickly corrected it and added fresh Nashville Hot Tots :-) AND, when we got the bill, the manager had put my burger "on the house" for the snafu. Completely unexpected, but very much appreciated. The restaurant business can be challenging, but this Burger Republic location seems to have it down to science! Cant wait to go back and try more!!

Yelp
Dana was amazing. Burger was amazing. perfect date night spot. service was fast. Caring person. asked good questions.

Yelp
I had been looking forward to expanding out burger tasting adventures at Burger Republic for the better part of a week. Anytime we get a chance to visit a new location, one of the things we like to make time for is to indulge in some form of local burger flavor. We have certainly had some great ones, however this particular location didn't really do it for us. Starters - NASHVILLE HOT TOTS: our famous tots dusted in nashville hot spices and a drizzle of our house made buffalo sauce & chives served with house made bleu cheese dressing. I actually really liked these and she thought they were ok. I'd go 4 out of 5 stars for this dish. It does have some heat and after you eat a few it kind of starts to stack the heat. Main Dish Wife - THE TENNESSEE: Jack Daniel's honey glaze, American cheese, smoked ketchup, maple basted Benton's bacon, & Memphis dusted crispy onions. She was disappointed in this dish. At the price point they charge the burger should have some flavor. It was really just bland and underwhelming. Main Dish Me - WEST TEXAS: Twin thin pressed patties with two slices of habanero jack cheese, sliced jalapeños, crispy onion straws, & our spicy west Texas bbq sauce. I'm on board with her thoughts of her burger, mine was similar, it just really lacked any flavor. The combinations they offer (not that many) sound like they would be a really good flavorful burger, they are severely lacking. One nice thing, they did have Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale on draft .... one of my favorites when you can get it that way. Overall staff were nice, nothing out of the ordinary though. Really what it comes down to for me, on this review, is the fact it is self proclaimed and touted, that their proprietary blend of brisket, short loin and chuck make for a truly quality burger ---- not so much so. Came in with high expectations, left with no intention of returning. Also, as other reviewers have stated, the out the door cost was a little north of $50 .... pretty pricey for this type of result. Note: price did include one draft beer a sweet tea and a water.

Nick M.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant I've tried in Nashville. I order the West Coast burger, cheese curds with pepperoni appetizer, s'mores shake and draft beer. All the food was amazing, has a lot of unique menu options you don't see often but still the standards as well so great variety if you want to try something new. Food was 10/10 overall, burgers are 9/10. Can't go wrong.

Eddie R.

Yelp
Had this place a couple times , burgers just have no flavor and taste unseasoned Mid

Yelp
Yum yum yum.. each of us in our group really enjoyed our appetizers! We just stopped for a middle of the day snack. The tater-tot fondue, garlic/parm fries, & Buffalo wings all are a definitely good choice to have! A big bonus for us was the $8.00 long islands!!!! Very affordable drinks!

Yelp
I had it delivered so it was good reheated. Except they didn't include any to go mayo/mustard/sauces. Only miss. Tasty otherwise
