So, I think it's best to compare this to moderate-fast food competitors like Little Big Burger and Whataburger, and in that comparison, I think they do very well.
The bun is a bit smallish like LBB, but the burger patty hangs out the sides nicely and I like the idea of more meat, less bun. The veggies are very fresh, the tomato firm, the lettuce crisp (every burger comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and sauce standard). I got mine with mustard instead of sauce, which made it a perfect replication of the Whataburger combination (also known as a Texas burger in many places), but with much higher quality ingredients all around, better prep (nicely toasted bun, nicely grilled patty). I was happily surprised to find they had spiced the patty adequately with salt and pepper, an important point often missed. The fries are fairly perfunctory, not as good at the Mickey D's standard, but still, as good as most.
Oh, another very nice touch... after I ordered and paid with Apple Pay (Yay!), they told me it would be 12-15 minutes (it was lunch rush on a Monday) and my food came up at almost exactly 12 minutes from the moment he told me that.
So, for the comparisons:
- I love LBB, but honestly, this burger felt more generous, better prepared, and overall more tasty. LBB is also probably a bit slower for in-line and wait times.
- Whataburger is classic, but nothing on the level of quality and taste here, and honestly, no faster either.
If there is any place in the area serving a burger much like this, I'd say it would be Mike's Drive-In. What's better? Not much, and nothing I can think of in a cart. For sit down, The Roxy still has my vote, but Burger Stevens is definitely a legit option when I'm stuck in the downtown core.
