Where to Eat and Pick the Best Peaches in Texas Hill Country | Eater Austin

"After losing a crop in 2024, this Stonewall shop turned imperfect fruit into a house-made peach wine that is now sold in the store; it also offers plenty of fresh peaches and related treats such as preserves, peach ice cream and sundaes topped with fresh fruit. The pivot from lost crop to new products highlights a resourceful, indulgent approach to celebrating local peaches." - Brittany Britto Garley

Absolutely delicious fresh fruit. They have wine made with their peaches. Lots of salsa and jams etc. Really really sweet young ladies working there. Love Fredericksburg peaches!!

Kim Cox

Google
A favorite stop! After stopping at several places for peaches when leaving Fredericksburg this shop was a great find. Lots of free tasting and many kinds of vegetables, nuts and canned preserves. Homemade ice cream too! And the people were so nice, unlike other places we stopped.

Google
Burg's Corner, located near Fredericksburg, exceeded my expectations when I was on the lookout for a great place to enjoy ice cream in the area. The shop is spacious and offers an impressive variety of products, including jam, spreads, wine, bread, fresh vegetables, diffusers, gourmet items, and even meats. I decided to try their peach ice cream, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it tasted. What's more, a single scoop of this delightful treat was generously portioned, easily shareable between two people, and reasonably priced at around $4. I also purchased a small bottle of their peach butter spread, which, while a little sweet, was quite enjoyable. Please note that the shop is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but they welcome customers on other days until 5 pm. The staff provided friendly and helpful customer service throughout my visit. In summary, I highly recommend Burg's Corner for their delectable ice cream and the diverse range of products they offer. It's a hidden gem in the area that shouldn't be missed.

Google
Always a favorite stop when we are in the Fredericksburg area. Fresh produce in season. But even when it's not in season, you can always find great sauces, jellies, dressings, and other delightful things. Plus, if you can't find anything else, there's always peach ice cream! I really appreciate how many samples they have out for people to try so that you can get the flavor of something you may not have thought about buying but you soon will after you taste it!

Google
We stopped on the way to Fredericksburg out of pure guess work to try peach ice cream and turned out to be a good experience. The quantity is good. Word of caution before visiting, if you want to buy peaches, the season is from May-September, But you can buy fresh pears, tomato, cucumber, Jam and pickle farm fresh here. Closed on Tuesday and Wednesday but open on weekends.HappyVisiting.

Google
We walked out satisfied. They have available tasting of their products, but I would use other than salted crackers, because you can't taste the jams, honey etc over the salt. Would probably buy more but wasn't sure about the taste. They also have a big shelf of pickled products such as pickles, jalapenos and quail eggs. The peaches weren't in the best shape but we planned to eat them soon after so a couple bruised ones wasn't an issue. We are yet to try the peach wine. It sounded interesting.

Google
Love this place . Meant to get more pictures. Peaches are out. Peach wine, peach preserves, peach vinigers, peach ice cream, and on and on

Google
This was a really good place to stop for everything peaches. Of course they have fresh peaches, but they have everything from peach cider to honey peach butter. Burg's Corner also serves several kinks of ice cream including, wait for it, peach! To fully immerse, I added a pureed peach topping. They have a small seating area where we had a chicken salad sandwich which was hugh so split it with someone. The LBJ BBQ sandwich is also popular.

Yelp
Burg's is my go to Peach and Veggie stand in the Fredericksburg area. I always get great tasting freestone peaches here, enjoy their homemade peach ice cream and the air conditioned space. Also, parking is abundant and setback off the main road. Staff is friendly and helped me carry peaches to my car. Great store.

Yelp
We tried 3 different orchards for peach cobbler and peach ice cream. Burg's won hands down! Their cobbler and ice cream are different... the other places had cake-y cobbler, Burg's had yummy crust like a pie. The other orchards ice cream: one was traditional ice cream (you can scoop it) and one was soft serve, but both plain and bland. Burg's was traditional with chunks of peaches in it! We came here twice on our visit.... Also, the peaches are amazingly sweet! When we left FBG my little girl exclaimed "we should have got more cobbler on the way out!" We will definitely return when in FBG

Yelp
We stopped by this store as we were leaving Hye Texas. I love how there are samples of all of their jams, cider, and even balsamic vinegar! The store sells everything from fresh peaches, jams, soap, salsa, canned food, fresh ice cream, and cobbler! We tried their butter pecan ice cream, peach ice cream, and blackberry cobbler. 1 large scoop of ice cream is around $5, and one slice of cobbler is $5. They didn't have peach cobbler when we went, sadly. The blackberry cobbler was delicious and paired nicely with the ice cream. Their ice cream is more on the stiffer side. We liked their butter pecan flavor, but their peach flavor was slightly disappointing. I thought the peach flavor would actually be infused in the ice cream, but it was actually just vanilla ice cream with a few pieces of (not very ripe) peach mixed in. The butter pecan had more flavor! I could barely taste the peach in the peach ice cream because it seemed like they used less ripe, firmer peaches. If you want that peach flavor, I would recommend adding the peach jam to any flavor of ice cream! I also purchased a few jars of their peach jam ($7.50/$12 depending on size) and a small box of 6 fresh peaches for $10. The fresh peaches were so sweet and yummy! Everyone we encountered at the store was very helpful and nice.

Yelp
This place is easy to get to as it's right on Hwy 290. They have a fairly large indoor store with lots of items. It's a great place to pick up in-season produce and/or buy a gift. The people who work there are helpful and always friendly. It's pleasant to walk around and shop. I always take my friends there during peach season.

Yelp
My experience was late afternoon so most of the fruit was picked over! I did not like that you couldn't touch the fruit and pick the fruit you want. The stand down the street has a better selection and lets you decide what you wanted. It was so hot inside the building we left after looking for about 5 min. Maybe if you get here early the selection is better and is a tolerable temp to shop.

Carol M.

Yelp
Great peaches, price always right ballpark, service friendly. Been going here for years and friends.

Yelp
I'm stopping at all the roadside peach places, determined to find some ripe and ready to eat peaches. This places had baskets of peaches labeled as ripe, they didn't feel ripe to me, but I am not the peach expert in this scenario so I put my trust in them and bought a basket of ripe peaches. Some of them probably should have been considered bad and not put into a basket, but I guess if I were to be honest, if I were a grower and used peaches for everything under the sun, I would probably be doing the same thing. Some of the peaches I got are going to go straight to the birds outside, as I will probably not be making a cobbler, but hey, you never know.

Yelp
This place has been around for as long as I can remember - a family-owned and operated establishment that provides solid local produce for locals and tourists alike. When I was young I even worked here one summer prepping fresh peaches for distribution. The friendly staff here will help you pick out fresh selections of everything from tomatoes to corn to cukes to peaches. The service is neighborly, to say the least. There is also a wide range of peach and pecan-related items such as butters, jams, jellies - even marinades and salad dressings. In one corner is a small ice cream counter - I highly recommend the vanilla ice cream covered in peach preserves. It is always a hit. This cozy store has the perfect Hill Country ambiance and hospitality that makes this area famous.

Yelp
We tried different homemade ice cream spots in the area and the verdict is in... Burg's was our fav! Creamy, flavorful ice cream. We tried the cookies & cream (out of this world), peach (classic) and butter pecan (so yum). No wonder there was a line to the door at one point! If you come during a peak time (2-4) do plan to stand in line for a bit. It'll be worth the wait!

Yelp
Looks like I forgot to post my review last year. Returned for peach season this year and am stocked up for the year. I love this little place not just for the fresh produce, but the variety of jams and salsas and other yummy things. The staff was helpful and friendly. The only downside was on my end, while the cobbler smelled amazing, I wasn't able to partake this time.

Yelp
Get as many peach taffies as you can afford! One of the few places that had peaches for sale. Sympathy for the industry as we have suffered drought and high heat all year....anyway, didn't try much except bought some taffy and oh my goodness!!! Burst of flavor and i wish I got some more.

Yelp
We were a bit disappointed in the items we bought here. It wasn't peach season so perhaps we need to go back and give them another chance then when we can try the peaches fresh. The chunky peach jam we bought was good but not to die for. Probably the tastiest item we bought was their ice cream with peach sauce all over it - yum! The local produce we bought from them lacked flavor and had odd textures once cooked and was generally disappointing compared to what we get at the grocery store, which was odd since I'd expect local stuff to be better quality. But I think the part I was most disappointed about was the jug of peach cider we bought, which I hadn't read the ingredients of until we brought it home. Turns out it contains "natural flavors", and basically just tasted like a fake peachie-o, not natural peaches. For ~$15 for the jug, I was really not thrilled.....

Yelp
We spent the day in Fredericksburg and on the way home we stopped here to get some local peaches to use in frozen drinks. I couldn't get over how expensive they were.....$20 for a basket of approximately 10 peaches. They also sold a similar size box of 'seconds' for $10. I was told that they were ready-to-use that day or very soon. I bought these since I didn't need perfect ones for drinks. When we got home, I got them out of the bag to cut up and found that all but 3 of the peaches were partially green....WAY too firm and unripe to use for anything.....and the three that I did cut up had plenty of unusable bad sections. One of the pits from the ones I cut up even had mold growing on it. Burg's also told me that these were freestone peaches but I found the pits were hard to remove from the flesh. If it wasn't a 2 hour drive from home, I would have returned them. Peaches that had green on them were put in a paper bag in the hope they'd ripen and two days later they still had green on them .....and the soft spots are getting worse. I've included photos that show how much bad stuff I cut off the 3 peaches and also of the pits. You might be able to see the green on the others. I will NEVER stop here again and am wishing I had just donated the $10 to a local charity instead.

Yelp
Try their peach ice-cream! It's refreshing and delicious and not too sweet at all. We bought some awesome peaches and beef jerky as well.

Kim W.

Yelp
They had a Great selection, prices were so affordable, and very friendly help! Can't wait to stop by our next visit to Fredericksburg.

Yelp
Peaches are great and peach ice crème was wonderful. The staff is very helpful too. Off the highway too which I liked.

Tracy G.

Yelp
This is always a must stop for us when in Fredericksburg. Great store with all the jellies, salsa, butters and yes peaches. Cool gift store. Ice cream is a special treat. Always good.

Thomas W.

Yelp
They have good stuff in the store. Their jalapeño/peach jam is to die for. The reason they get 3 stars is, the people working there totally unfriendly. When you go to the register, you feel like you are bothering them. Then a manager came up and sat in a chair behind the employees and you see instantly where the unfriendliness comes from. Not good business sense!
google avatar

Diane D.

Yelp
Burg's Corner always attentive to their customers needs. Their peaches make the best treats, salsa makes the best addition to our snacks, and of course their hassle-free shipping online! Always happy to serve our community and out of town visitors.

Yelp
Cute little store that's hard to miss in Stonewall. Esposa and I were out and about in the area for wine tasting. We stopped in. Not much going on here. Loads of peaches and peach products. Bathrooms are around back and quite nasty. Prices seem high. Guess we just weren't awestruck.

Yelp
First time in Stonewall and Burg's Corner. Brought here by a close friend from San Antonio who had lived & went to school in this area. She grew her own peach trees, jarred the fruits & knew all the orchard growers and varieties of peaches grown in Fredericksburg and Stonewall. Barbara highly recommended Burg's Corner above all others. Samples of available peach was at the counter. It was called "Flame Prince" which we tasted. Sweet and very good. Purchased 1/8 BU for ourselves, to share with our neighbor, and give a dozen peaches to my friends at the gym. My Payment of $20 was happily accepted at the counter.

Yelp
Burgs Corner offers great vegetables and fruit from the area. We always enjoy a scoop of peach ice cream too when we are there.

Yelp
We happen to be in the Texas Hill Country visiting various wineries. We were excited to find out that we just happen to be visiting the same time of the Peach Festival. We found Burgs to have a large selection of peaches. From small to large peaches as well as a variety of other fruits and vegetables.

Marilyn M.

Yelp
We stopped at Burgs Market on Saturday to get some peaches. As we parked, we were glad to see that customers entering the store were wearing masks and once inside we noted all the other customers were also wearing masks. However, I was quite shocked when I went to pay for our items to find that neither cashier was wearing a mask. When I inquired about their policy, since mask wearing is mandated by the governor, the reply from the cashier was that they were not obliged to. I was sorry that I bought the peaches and also didn't look at the cashiers when I first entered. I just assumed that the business would act in a responsible way.

Yelp
Tourist trap. They do have peach sauces, preserves, peach cider and local produce. When I went they did not have local peaches. They had peaches from Colorado. A disappointment but I did end up getting some peach ice cream and some blushing peach preserves. An older lady fell while we were there and the workers just stood there and looked. The manager finally got her some ice. Everyone who works there is young and doesn't really care to help customers.

Alexa S.

Yelp
I have been here and will highly return here. This is a great location. They have really good products. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Big, country store with a little restaurant that also served Peach ice cream. Bought old-fashioned canned peaches, Peach butter, Peach syrup, Peach cider, a soy pumpkin spice candle that was half priced, honey sticks, goat soap on sale and filled up a water bottle and used the restroom. Nice place to stop particularly if you like peaches, but they also have other fresh fruit and vegies for sale and lots of other stuff. Loved it! Great customer service!
google avatar

Ira A.

Yelp
An out of the way spot unless you're a resident. This country store sells fresh peaches when in season. That's what draw us off the road into the shop. However there is a lot more than peaches. There is a great selection of "peachy" (pun intended) products. From lotions to preserves to ice cream. I purchased a scoop of ice cream for $3 which is not my habit but it was definitely worth it. The butter pecan ice cream is made from the pecans that are grown on the tree on property. It is better than a major brand that I normally eat. That brand was off the market for a few months recently because of a bacteria issue. The peach ice cream is the bomb. It has chucks of peaches in it.

Yelp
Stopped by here during a Hill Country road trip. This place still has some of the freshest peaches in the Hill Country as well as being a clean, air conditioned stop on US 290 between Johnson City and Fredericksburg. The staff is incredibly friendly and they sell almost every peach concoction known to man. They are to peaches what Stuckey's used to be for pecans. (But inifnitely cleaner!)
google avatar

C. S.

Yelp
Awesome service and peach treats galore. The homemade ice cream is divine. Try the peach with sliced peaches or the butter pecan. Moreover, this is a great place to buy fresh produce (peaches and tomatoes are a fave when in season) and jam, salsa, and cider. A stop every time my family goes to the LBJ Ranch.

Cynthia T.

Yelp
Staff was so busy eating ice cream and sampling products they didn't have time to stop and sell me ice cream even though I was standing at ice cream counter with my money out.
google avatar

Rikki G.

Yelp
stopped here for the first time today to buy some peaches. Not only was it a clean and friendly environment, but they had some very interesting items and amazing local produce!!! My girlfriend and I shared a double scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with peaches (one of the best things I have EVER eaten!!!). I will be stopping here again to purchase produce and some of the more different items such as peach cider and pickled green tomatoes!!! I will absolutely be back for some more of that ice cream!!!! It's a great place to stop and rest when you're on a road trip or shop for some fresh ingredients for dinner :)

Yelp
Peach cider, peach ice cream, peach preserves, peach candy, peaches and more! If you're in the market for Fredericksburg peaches this is a must go. I drive from Austin every year to get the crop in summer. The staff is very friendly and they have a huge selection of different peach products.
google avatar

Carolyn N.

Yelp
We have stopped here several times, besides local peaches, they offer other in season produce. They also offer a nice variety of other goods, many are open for sampling. We love their peach cider and peach ice cream. Staff has always been very friendly.

Yelp
Best ice cream ever....peach ice cream with peaches on top is classic...the butter pecan ice cream is heavenly too..

DAnna B.

Yelp
A group of 4 ladies came in your store on Sunday, April 30. This shop has the most delicious products. I got a jar of the lime mango salsa and it is the best salsa I have ever ate. My son and I finished a jar when I got home, we couldn't stop. I also got a jar of garlic dill pickles, a jar of pickled okra and some peach syrup. I haven't tried the syrup yet, but the pickles and pickled okra were also delicious. The young lady that was in charge told us they were her grandma's recipes. The next time I am within 30 miles of Burg's Corner I will be back!!!

Yelp
We went West from Austin to hunt for fresh peaches and we sure found them at Burg's Corner. The red buildings are sandwiched between Hwy 1 (the road that goes to the LBJ Ranch) and Hwy 290W in Stonewall. Burg's Corner is a great stop after a few hours at the LBJ Ranch facilities and park. First thing, we enjoyed the peach ice cream covered with diced, fresh peach. Cold, tasty and very habit forming. Next we shopped the peaches on offer, The peach season this year brought bumper crops and will continue to do so through August. We settled on a half bushel of peaches and are still eating them a week later. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. They hand out a circular about Texas peaches; the types, their uses, whether they are freestone or clingstones (? read the brochure) and when they come into season. Also instructs on how to tell when a peach is ripe and ready to eat or ready for a pie. A very nice stop on a summer outing. Thank you Berg's Corner Staff.
