Google
i was pretty excited to finally try this place and was super disappointed tbh. it took forever for anyone to even acknowledge us despite it being nearly empty, then when we ordered the service was abysmal. we had to repeat what we were trying to order multiple times and clarify just to order a simple dish. the sodas are apparently off brand but it doesn’t say that anywhere and they honestly are disgusting to the point i couldn’t even drink it. $3.50 for an off brand soda that’s basically all ice and were told explicitly in a rather rude manner that “it’s only one refill”, as if i would’ve wanted another glass of whatever that was. the food finallllly came out and idk how it even made it out of the kitchen. half the chips on on the nachos were burnt to the point of being black and were missing multiple toppings. and the toppings all tasted like store bought from the jewel a block down, then just thrown on the burnt chips to call it nachos. i could’ve made better nachos at home instead of paying $13 for them. i see other reviews say that the portions are large which wasn’t the case for us. we got maybbeee 8 fries with our sandwiches which were again mid at best, definitely just frozen slop. the only redeeming quality was whatever garlic sauce was served alongside the burger. other than that it was an entire waste of money for food that could pass as hospital cafeteria food. save your time and money to go down the street for way better service and grub, bc this place is just not it.

Google
I’ve eaten here 3 times and the food’s been great each time. Waffle fries are very good. Staff is friendly. Rotating draft drinks so there’s always something new to try.

Bill P.

Google
Burke's is about the best neighborhood joint in Edgewater. Friendly service and a solid menu. I've never gotten a bad item here - their monthly specials are always a great option and I highly recommend their turkey burger, which is made completely in-house. Great beer rotation as well - and don't forget the Fish Fry every Friday!

Daniel B.

Google
Decent spot! Fine service. Slightly disappointed in the fish and chips $18. All over cooked one piece way overcooked in my opinion. Served with coleslaw, tater sauce, and plain green peas. At least put a dash of salt and butter on the green peas. I love a green veggie bit do something to them...

Steve M.

Google
The owner is very judgemental and not friendly. He doesn't appreciate customers who spend money at his bar but most importantly take care of the staff. Which is the reason people come to the bar. With competition opening up in the neighborhood he should welcome business instead of deterring it. That being said much of the staff is amazing and it's a shame I will no longer spend my money there to support someone who is so judgemental and preaches equality and compassion but doesn't back it up

Stephen B.

Google
The most overused phrase in the Chicago food/drink scene is 'Neighborhood Gem'. Ans yep, you guessed it, this really is a neighborhood gem. If you want a well poured pint and some not fancy comfort food, you'll like Burke's.

Bruce B.

Google
The morning of our visit, they were short of foods. It was a very busy weekend. We waited with cocktails that were overwhelming strong. The brunch ordered was fine, and a vodka shot of something as a recognition for our patience was reminisit of Robotussen. Overall, it was an ok visit. Our Chicago resident assured us this was not the usual experience, and they are his frequent Friday go-to. We sat outside on a fine Sunday morning.

Alex S.

Google
I've been here before for drinks, and I have always enjoyed this Irish pub. But I finally came here for food recently, and was really impressed!! I'm from Buffalo, NY and I'm a tough critic on chicken wings, but the wings at Burke's are the real deal! Honestly probably my favorite wing in all of Edgewater & Uptown. And the Blue cheese was nice and chunky. I'll be coming back here in the future for food!

Yelp
We found Burke's because It's around the corner from The Edge Theater. The food, drinks, and service were delightful. We had yummy salmon tacos.

Yelp
Ever since starting to watch The Bear, I have been craving an Italian Beef sandwich, so what better place to try that out than in the city that inspired the show, right? Could have gone to the actual restaurant its based on but Burke's Public House did the trick just fine. Super hearty helping of beef on a pretty solid sandwich at a decent enough price. Wish there were more fries that came with, but beggars can't be choosers. Service was reliable, and the dive-y ambiance made this a solid neighborhood spot to check out for a quick catch up with an old friend.

Yelp
After my workout, I finally came here for dinner. Every time I walk past here it's always busy, but tonight it wasn't too busy. I sat at the bar at the end. The bartender Brendan (also owner) served me. I had 2 Tito Vodka and lemonade (which was tasty) and for dinner, I had Bacon and Burke Burger (no onion) cooked medium and waffle fries. The burger was cooked perfectly and the waffle fries were hot. The bar wasn't busy, many regulars came here. Tonight is Trivia Night in the other room. The ambiance is very cozy with the TV playing College and professional sports. High Tables in front and back of the restaurant. I will definitely come back. For the drinks, food, and services

Yelp
Once we got service, our server he was great! At receipt of our bill, he gave us a complementary shot for our wait at the beginning. Place was pretty full for Sunday, you can tell they have a regular crowd. Vibe is Irish eclectic. Food was reasonably priced and huge portions! I took half my salad home and helped my husband finish his waffle fries, which were crispy and delicious with in house ranch. Burke's Chopped salad includes grilled chicken, bacon, avocado, tomato, blue cheese and onion with a house vinaigrette. Served with grilled pita points. Chicago Style Italian beef was served with waffle fries, aus jus, sweet peppers and hot giardiniera, a garlic and ground pepper aioli and mayo slaw.

Kristopher M.

Yelp
I always get the grilled Chicken sandwich and it is always good with the waffle fries. The owner is always there and always makes his way around to say hi. Nice neighborhood staple.

Yelp
This was the Spinach Artichoke Dip that is $11. Now I believe it was Brandon but he was nice to reimburse the item. Brandon stated that the dip is pre packaged so if you ordering to go please check your items before leaving.
google avatar

Bill D.

Yelp
Consistently good food and great service. Friday night fish fry's are the best with fresh cod. However during the week, the Italian beef sandwich is the best. Great aus jus and the best giardana makes for Italian Beef sandwiches that puts Portillo's to shame. Absolutely try that - and add a Martini with the best blue cheese stuffed olives are outstanding. No where else better.

Shawn C.

Yelp
Been coming in here for years but will not again. I came in a couple hours ago to meet with some friends. I order a beer and the bartender charges me 13 dollars for it. I was surprised and mentioned such and he tells me it's because it is 16 ounces. I can get a German Beer at a dozen other bars in the area all under 10 bucks for sure. They used to advertise that it was the friendliest bar in Chicago. I don't know if that was ever true but it is surely not now.
google avatar

Caleb J.

Yelp
Burke's is a great place to go if you want to watch a game with friends or have a drink together and catch up. Although it took about 10 minutes to get a table, it was a busy evening for a Friday night. Which I don't mind necessarily, everyone was having a good time it seemed. I didn't see many people ordering food, but my partner and I greatly enjoyed our meals. I got the Chipotle Chicken Wrap and he got the Burke and Bacon Burger. Waffle fries are an instant hit, and the garlic sauce they provide on the side is great for anything. I ordered a Maplewood Son of Juice and he got a Moscow mule. The mule could've had fresh ginger beer, but no complaints otherwise. Highly recommend this place if you're in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Officially a neighborhood gem. The fish fry is outstanding. Tender, juicy fish (cod? YUM) light breading, not greasy or heavy - and a very good price. The waffle fries are a favorite here - how do they do them so consistently perfect! Crunchy, tender on the inside, so good!!! Damn, I love them. I had the Buffalo Chicken salad, which I enjoyed. Honestly, though, it could have half the amount of lettuce and still be a fine salad. It was a LOT of lettuce! The chicken was tasty and tangy with delicious Cayenne pepper Buffalo seasoning. Gerry, fantastic staff member, put a smile on both our faces after a trying week with his friendliness, enthusiasm and beautiful smiling face! Thank you, friend! And the owner is always just great - never fails to great us warmly and with shots in hand! We appreciate you!

Yelp
On a Sunday, our group was struggling to find a place to watch the Buffalo Bills. Called ahead to this place and they said they could accommodate, no problem. Showed up and they were very kind about pushing a couple tables together for us in sight of a TV. The food... not completely inspiring. Got the chipotle chicken wrap based on positive reviews and it was pretty sogged out. The ingredients in interior were mushy and hard to distinguish flavors. The waffle fries were ok but would've liked them crispier. Table got nachos to share which were ok, but the chips tasted stale. However the stellar service is really what sold this place for us. Our waitress was super attentive, always checking on us, and even went to find one of our group outside when they were out of the beer he ordered. At the end, a guy (I think the manager?) gave us a celebratory rounds of shots for Bills winning the game. Would definitely come back based on the awesome service we had, and try some different food!

Yelp
My friend goes here all the time with his friends and they love it. Haven't dined in there yet but did takeout last night. Mom wanted the Salmon BLT. She approved. Nice piece of salmon on a nicely toasted bread. Bacon was good. Had a piece myself. I'm not a fish guy so couldn't give you an opinion on that but again. Mom liked it. I had the Italian beef. It was good. Not the best but probably would get it again. Maybe it was an off day for that batch. I've seen other pictures of beefs on here and they looked better. Portion size for the price could have been more. For appetizers I had the chicken fingers. That for the price was well worth it. Great taste. All items came with waffle fries. Very good. Mom had the spinach artichoke dip with what I think was homemade pita bread. She approved. Overall a great place. It had a great atmosphere and seen what I think were regular customers. Gotta join with my friends next time.

Brooke B.

Yelp
Says it's a sports bar but doesn't get the SEC Network. Sad. Ever heard of fubo? Find a legit place to watch.
google avatar

Pinkie F.

Yelp
Best neighborhood bar in the neighborhood! The staff and regular customers are terrific. Never too loud and never too quiet either! The patio on Balmoral Ave is very large. Drop bye and say H E L L O! The food is enough for two. And the burgers are cooked to what ever temperature like! How's that for service?
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
Local, neighborhood place, friendly. Food is average for bar food, service is typical for a laid back bar. Spring/Summer/Fall good outdoor space.
google avatar

Ryan C.

Yelp
Went here a couple of times during a recent stay in Edgewater and always enjoyed ourselves. Seems a little understaffed right now, but the servers did a great job of keeping up with customers, and we never had to wait long for food. Speaking of, everything we ate was good -- decent chicken sandwich, excellent onion rings with a really good Guinness sauce, hearty chili, nothing ever disappointed us. Main standout was the beer cheese sauce that comes with the pretzel bites -- it's absolutely delicious, some of the best-tasting beer cheese we've had. Worth getting that appetizer just so you can dip other stuff like fries, too. Prices were reasonable for the area, and they've got some decent beers on tap along with the full bar. Great spot, would definitely recommend. Want to check out the brunch menu next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
This place is great! Super nice, attentive and friendly staff and a great beer and food selection. Not your average bar but a few notches better. Outdoor dining is an option as well.
google avatar

Max V.

Yelp
Ok, in all honesty it's almost an insult to give your standard neighborhood bar five stars. Among the reasons, mainly you don't want people catching on.... But Burkes was 4 star with the extra due to the bartender. The hardest working guy there. So attentive, but respectful. Good memory, able to handle a lot. And he gives off the energy that he's never been in a bad mood. Pictured is the grilled veggie wrap (with waffle fries) that I'd grade VERY good bar food, All that to say, Burkes is a bomb and I'm coming back. Look up the definition of a good neighborhood bar and Burkes would be pictured. Just don't tell your neighbors.
google avatar

Andy N.

Yelp
Burke's was the recent host to my dear friend's baby shower and they were fantastic. My friends were searching for a venue where we would have a private space (free of charge!) and order food and drinks to celebrate this momentous moment. Thank goodness they found Burke's! They placed us in a private bar area with our own servers and made arrangements to accommodate our small party. I loved that the bar management was especially accommodating to families and really made the space feel like home. The party "package' included drinks and bar nibbles. I loved their Fall Cider with Whiskey concoction. It felt like I was at a Christmakindl market but not freezing since I was inside a bar. You can barely taste the whiskey so be careful as you may end up sipping more than you can handle. Their bar food was not bad either. I loved their buffalo wings and their artichoke dip served with warm chips was a solid option. Thanks Burke's for hosting such a great event for my friends.

Larry B.

Yelp
Burke's is a nice, casual pub that has a solid food too! Their Italian beef sandwich was delicious and my friend liked his burger. I'd be happy to go back here.

Veronica H.

Yelp
Friday night fish and chips at Burke's is a monthly ritual for us. We love the dark, cozy pub vibes and super friendly staff. Also, I always notice how spotlessly clean this place is! The fish fry portions are generous and it always arrives piping hot. This is a pub that knows what it is, does it well, and is super professional. What's not to love?

Ivy G.

Yelp
Overall really like going here for all the right reasons. Good beer selection. Love their sandwiches and very nice staff. Comfortable inside. Pleasant family run business. Only complaint, wish they were open for linch more often.

Nora D.

Yelp
Great gem with traditional pub feel and not the Wrigleyville crowd! Food was Delicious!
google avatar

Floyd H.

Yelp
Nice neighborhood bar, great spot to grab some pub food with a great selection of beer. The staff are all friendly and personable, love sitting at the bar and talking with the bartenders.

Yelp
Came here on a Monday, early afternoon. There was maybe 1 other person in the bar excluding the two people that were with me. And right off the bat, I did not get a good impression. There was no music playing, so we decided to try out the TouchTunes, and as soon as it came on, the bartender cut it off and informed us that they were watching Jeapordy! What?! When he got our order, I asked if they had any desserts and he said brownie bites, so I ordered that along with a drink. I don't know if that was a joke (?) or if they didn't have any in stock or what, but I never got it and he didn't mention it when he brought out our drinks. The bar itself was fine. But I wouldn't return or even recommend this place because of the service.

M W.

Yelp
The moderators took down my review... I'm assuming because it isn't so favorable. so here's a more thought out review. Attentive service! our waiter was kind, maybe too informal. touching our arms and shoulders during the middle of a pandemic felt like a very strong and wrong move, but so it was. Burke's is easily some of the worst food I've had in the city. My partner had the chicken tenders, which were nothing to write home about. The fries were cold. I was feeling too big for my britches, and decided to order the special at the time - A BBQ Pork Taco Salad. and that's my bad. The taco bowl was stilly so so oily. I respect they made it themselves. The salad was a regular iceberg mix with some cold pulled pork with a few squirts of bbq sauce. Save yourself some time and money. our touchy server sent us out with some fireball shots, which we didn't really ask for, but thanks I guess?

Casey B.

Yelp
Trivia was really fun prices are great love this place - there's a waiter named Mike? He was not good and made us uncomfortable.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Really Burke's? Your kitchen is closed at 9:30 on a Friday night? Yer killin' me, Smalls!
google avatar

Jewel D.

Yelp
Fantastic place to watch Cleveland Browns games with the Chicagoland Browns Backers in the back room to cheer (or cry) with. Lots of TV's and the food is great. They had a recent Oktoberfest special inclusive of the stein. They have breakfast items for when you're craving some eggs and bacon and yummy burgers, chicken, etc but also Irish nachos!! , and my favorite, tater tots, on their extensive menu! Service is great. And they have Great Lakes on tap!!
google avatar

Daniel C.

Yelp
Outstanding service for the number of people in the bar. I came with my girlfriend on a Saturday night and the staff was super friendly, helpful, and quick to take our orders. I had a warm apple cider whiskey which was fantastic on a cold Chicago evening! Food was also amazing. Highly recommend!

Carol L.

Yelp
We've lived in Edgewater for eight years. We've gone to Burke's Public House probably a dozen times, hoping the experience would be better each time. It's close and convenient to where we live and would love a regular place to hang out within walking distance. It just keeps disappointing. The food is acceptable. The wait staff has mostly been pleasant and friendly. The bar is an issue. We have never felt comfortable there. We've never had a friendly bartender. We don't witness them being friendly to customers. Last night's experience irritated me to write this review. My husband is a bourbon aficionado. Last night, he asked the bartender for a taste of the well bourbon, as he had never heard of it. Not only did the bartender tell him he could not give him a taste, the bartender didn't even know is was not a bourbon; it was a whisky. My husband just had water. The bartender lost the opportunity to sell him a drink. Had he given him the taste, he would have declined the whiskey and ordered his usual higher-end bourbon drink. To finish off our annoying experience, I had a vodka and club soda drink. When we got the bill, the charge was $7 for the vodka and $2 for the club soda! Are you kidding me???? It's not the $9! It's the feeling of being nickeled and dimed. Just charge me $9 for the drink! We eat and drink out frequently downtown and in the Edgewater/Andersonville areas. We've never had drinks charged like that!! This place has been around awhile, but for us, it is sadly missing the mark!
google avatar

Jonnathan J.

Yelp
I've been in this place twice, the food is really good! I've had the Burke & Bacon Burger and Burke's Half-pound Angus beef with bacon and blue cheese. I really liked them!. Definitely one of my favorites in Chicago. The fries are also really good, sadly this last time I went they didn't have these fries, which was a disappointment. They give you aioli with the burgers, you will probably ask your server for more, is so good. We also tried the Gourmet Beef Sandwich, it was good but I like my sandwiches with vegetables, not just meat, but it was good. Cocktails, I had the Dublin and the Moscow mule, $6.5 each, and were good!. Also ordered the Hollywood beach sunrise, that one wasn't. The service is fine, I mean everyone is nice and polite, can't complain. But, the second time, we sat and wait for like 10 minutes until the manager (I believe) saw us and brought the menus, because the servers didn't notice us, it wasn't that crowded, but it was too many ppl for only 2 servers, maybe they weren't prepared I don't know. Either way, this is a great place, totally recommended!.
google avatar

Mindy S.

Yelp
The last time I went it really seemed like they just gave up caring about quality. Was looking forward to burger and waffle fries, neither hit the mark.

Yelp
BEST ONION RINGS EVER!!!! The waffle fries are incredible, BUT THE ONION RINGS! DAM! So good! Everything else is great too, BUT I LOVE THE ONION RAN UPDATE.... MY BF4-Evea, Tosh, had Rick, pour me a fucking DRANK! This bitch, instead of mimosa, made me a champagne and pineapple juice with a hashtag of chambord. FML I could drink this all day. Once again, onion rangs saved the forth of July. UPDATE to the UPDATE... I got the waffle fries with my breakfast sandwich. Waffle fries are so sexy. My BF4-Eva, Tosh, got the hashdrowns. Fuck me gently with a chainsaw these are GD brilliant! Like dude, fucking really? I cannot figure out what to order because I want it all. If you like food, your an idiot if you don't visit this place. Don't be a dip shit, just go, get onion rangs, and ORDER... UPDATE to the UPDATATES UPDATE. Rick is fucking hilarious! Tip this bish well!

TW H.

Yelp
It's a great place to hang for a few beers or glass of wine and watch a game. The food is good and you won't walk away hungry. My recommendation would be the salmon tacos, which comes with a green salad. The tacos never disappoint. The hamburgers are good and very filling. The salads are also a tasty option. Be sure to check their weekly specials, as you may find a nice surprise dish that isn't offered everyday. The service is friendly and congenial. It's a nice bunch at Burke's and always a pleasure to visit.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
The food was top notch delicious! Warm and cozy atmosphere and we had excellent customer service. We will be back for sure.
google avatar

Jeff K.

Yelp
Burke's is the type of place you want around the corner from where you live. Fortunately for me it is. The food is always high quality, flavorful and well prepared. I'm fussy about salmon and I am always pleased. The waffle fries are hot and fresh with a big portion. Their Friday fish and chips are the best around. The staff is attentive and friendly. The beer list is sure to please and the prices are reasonable. Next time you want to meet up with friends for a bite and a drink or sit at the bar and enjoy dinner and a beer on your own, check our Burke's.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
This is a great little neighborhood pub. The food is good, prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly. Glad to see them still doing well after the shutdown.
google avatar

Joey M.

Yelp
So...There was a guy bartender who was the best bartender we've ever had. Then this brunette lady switched into shift. Oh My God...what a horrible human. My friend ordered fries, she brought 2 orders and then said he ordered 2 orders which he didn't and then she basically called him a drunk and said we needed to get him out. I've never met a more horrible bartender and unless the guy who I adored is back, I'm not coming back.
google avatar

Leona V.

Yelp
DOGS NOT ALLOWED. I order takeout from here regularly, and happily drive to pick it up. Tonight on the way home from a walk, with a small dog and baby, we stopped to order takeout. Upon sitting on the half empty patio, I was told rather unenthusiastically that "yea I could order to go, from the menu on the window, but no dogs on the patio". That a new thing? The owners response..."we still don't know if dogs or cats can spread the virus and your dog could lick someone and give them COVID". So my small dog sitting leashed in the bottom of my stroller with my one year old is going to spread COVID? You're right...I will leave.

Mary Ann M.

Yelp
The grilled cheese is not grilled. No need to say more. It's on toast. Why would you say it's a grilled cheese when it isn't? Please clarify to patrons that it's not a grilled cheese. Our server didn't return to ask about the food for 20 mins. The women's bathroom was out of soap. The bar experience was very good but I'd never order food again. Didn't you realize that people who ordered a grilled cheese would recognize that it's not grilled?
google avatar

Johanna S.

Yelp
The Atmosphere can be touch and go Adam the bartender is very pleasant. Food is our food somewhat fattening.
google avatar

Lee L.

Yelp
This is a great British style pub and sports bar. The beer selection is great, the service is always friendly and the food is good a reasonably priced. They also have nice happy hour specials.

Deatta P.

Yelp
Good bar service - decent Brunch menu - tasty cocktails and Bloody mary's. The downside was the 25 minute wait for the food which was served (potatoes) cold and the BPHwas not busy.

Brian R.

Yelp
Good cocktails and fast friendly service in a welcoming atmosphere. Great neighborhood spot

Yelp
I like this place. The wife and I meet friends here, watch games here, etc. for example, tonight we had dinner with a woman who is most likely a vampire. Service is Good. I like the owner, who walks around to say hi to the customers every night. If he takes a day off, I don't know about it. Here's the problem: the food needs a lot of work. The vampire ordered a portobello sandwich that tasted like rosemary. Nothing else. Just rosemary. The wife ordered a grilled cheese that had multiple issues. First, there was maybe one slice of cheese and a ton of caramelized onions. Second, there is a crazy amount of bread for the one slice of cheese. There is literally a pile of excess bread on the wife's plate. Third, her sandwich tasted like pretty much nothing. I would like to kick the cooks out of the kitchen and handle the orders myself. Since that is not an option, Mr. Burke needs to improve the food. Option B is just close the kitchen and let us order pizza.
google avatar

Keith A.

Yelp
I was craving a pub burger and decided to give this place a try. The food was all right, but nothing special. I'd go if someone invited me to hang out there, but I don't think I'd order it again for takeout.
google avatar

Steve S.

Yelp
My first time at Burke's was mediocre at best but since the whole "stay at home" stuff, Burke's has been our "go to" for when we want good "pub" food. The burgers are good. I would prefer a "heartier" bun. The one they currently use can get a bit mushy but the well done burger more than makes up for it. I always opt for the onion rings instead of the waffle fries and love 'em. The staff is great and really have been working hard during this weird time. Thanks for being part of the neighbored, Burke's!
google avatar

Eusebio A.

Yelp
We stopped by for a lunch and the staff totally ignored us for over 10minutes.l, so we left. I will take my money to a place with a better customer service. Peace out.
