This is *the* place to get your soft-serve ice cream fix in Hamtramck. Well, actually, aside from the free-range versions via the hit-or-miss ice cream trucks, Burk's is the *only* place to get soft-serve ice cream in Hamtramck!
Be that as it may, Burk's doesn't drop the ball when it comes to supplying a wide assortment of cool and tasty creations. Their turtle parfait is made with hot caramel sauce, plenty o' pecans (bits and whole halves), ice cream and whipped cream. Between this one, the peanut parfait and the caramel apple parfait, it is hard to choose.
They also excel in the hard-shelled dipped cones with some unusual flavors including cotton candy. They have twirled cones with a stripe of accented flavor, sundaes, blizzardesque treats, smoothies, floats, shakes and coolers.
Service is relatively quick and friendly despite the fact that the high school girls working there are multitasking while laughing and making critical assessments about the latest YouTube foolishness on their laptop.
The picnic tables, although convenient, are a popular hangout for the sweat bees. If you listen carefully, you can hear the bees laughing at the futile attempts to ensnare them with the traps set at each of the garbage cans.
So, if you're in town --say during the festival-- why not take a slight detour to Burk's to satisfy that soft serve monkey on your back.
Edit; FYI: I hear they are open until mid October this year.
Additional edit: The map isn't correct with the location. It is on Conant, just south of Caniff and just before Trowbridge.
