Metro Detroit’s Best Soft Serve Ice Cream | Eater Detroit

"The corner cone booth with a cartoon igloo and penguin sells short-order menu items ranging from coneys and fries to the Avalanche — made with soft-serve ice cream and chock-full of one’s favorite candy. The season here runs from the first week in March to the last week in October." - Will Reaume

Best ice cream around with a wide variety of food and snacks. They're open late most nights til 9-10pm and they don't close for the season til October. I absolutely love this place. We moved out of the city and still travel at least once a week just to get ice cream here ❤️❤️❤️

Google
Burk’s Igloo is the best ice cream in Hamtramck! The flavors are rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious. Every bite is worth it. The staff is friendly, prices are great, and the old-school vibe makes it even better. A true Hamtramck favorite — highly recommend!

I've gone like 2 or 3 hours out of my way to go here. It's one of my favorite places of all time. I told the owner this is one of my favorite places, I think she thought I meant ice cream. That building has been a staple of this community since the '60s.

I had a double cheeseburger, it was terrible. I also tried a hit fudge sundae. I saw something green on the lip of the cup, but didn't think much on it. Bout time I got down to the bottom of the cup, it was full of green crap. I went back to counter and asked the young lady what was that in the bottom of my cup, and she said, oh your good. It was PROBABLY some green apple from the last one they made. 🤔 I been not feeln to well about the whole situation. If yo go there for anything, make sure you can see through the cups, so that you know your nit gettn garbage in the bottom of your cup. There not to clean, or sanitary. Be careful. Dint let all the ratings fool you! 🫡

Google
They have some of the best Sunday’s ever.they have milkshakes to but the flavors was kind of washed down a little bit.but they nailed the Sunday’s.and good customer service to the lady was very nice and polite.

Definitely a Hamtramck landmark! The ice 🍨 is just better here! I have been a customer since 2013/14 and will come back every year!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went here one day during the summer to get sundaes on a Sunday. It is such a cute little place. The person at the window that day was very unprofessional and rude- not only to us but to the customers in front and behind us. She was hot tempered and impatient. The man ahead of us had a few simple questions about sizing. I'm not sure why she was mad at him and couldn't just show him the size of the cups. She rushed my boyfriend and I. I regret not getting her name. She was a big lady, probably mid to late thirties.

Yelp
This is *the* place to get your soft-serve ice cream fix in Hamtramck. Well, actually, aside from the free-range versions via the hit-or-miss ice cream trucks, Burk's is the *only* place to get soft-serve ice cream in Hamtramck! Be that as it may, Burk's doesn't drop the ball when it comes to supplying a wide assortment of cool and tasty creations. Their turtle parfait is made with hot caramel sauce, plenty o' pecans (bits and whole halves), ice cream and whipped cream. Between this one, the peanut parfait and the caramel apple parfait, it is hard to choose. They also excel in the hard-shelled dipped cones with some unusual flavors including cotton candy. They have twirled cones with a stripe of accented flavor, sundaes, blizzardesque treats, smoothies, floats, shakes and coolers. Service is relatively quick and friendly despite the fact that the high school girls working there are multitasking while laughing and making critical assessments about the latest YouTube foolishness on their laptop. The picnic tables, although convenient, are a popular hangout for the sweat bees. If you listen carefully, you can hear the bees laughing at the futile attempts to ensnare them with the traps set at each of the garbage cans. So, if you're in town --say during the festival-- why not take a slight detour to Burk's to satisfy that soft serve monkey on your back. Edit; FYI: I hear they are open until mid October this year. Additional edit: The map isn't correct with the location. It is on Conant, just south of Caniff and just before Trowbridge.

Yelp
This is the best ice cream place ever. It's super cheap and absolutely delicious. I've never seen Flavor Burst ice cream anywhere else (vanilla ice cream with a line of flavor on the swirl) and it's 100%. Family owned and run. Remember to bring your cash!

Yelp
DON'T order the upside down banana split it cost 5$ and change in a small cup with just vanilla icecream 4 thinly circle slices bananas and a couple if strawberries. SO NOT WORTH THE MONEY OR TASTE!!! I thought banana split came with Vanilla,Chocolate and Strawberry Icecream with pineapple sauce chocolate sauce whipecream and a cherry with sprinkle nuts. Something so easy to make and a Icecream place thats been open for years cant even make something so Simple and old fashion. Banana Split has been around longer than they have...Dont take a rocket scientist to put that together. I shouldn't blame it on the kid that made it. I blame the owner for the lack on Training thier employees poorly!!!

Yelp
Absolutely insane menu that literally covers every square inch of the storefront. Basically anything you can think of that contains high fructose corn syrup you can add you your ice cream here. They have a slush called "suicide" which is just every single flavor mixed together. I got a flurry or something with Andes mints and legit I think they added like 30 andes to my drink it was basically like mashed up Andes with a little bit of ice cream, which to me fucking rules.

Yelp
The food is great to , i love the red raspberry slush and the ice cream is the best to .

Yelp
Love this little mom 'n pop ice cream stand! Every time I go there, someone else is behind the counter. Which is perfectly fine. A woman with her son was there and noticed my "Iggy Koopa" t-shirt I had made for me on line. It was cute. I love the "Avalanche" which is a Dairy Queen equivalent of a Blizzard. Yet I think the avalanche is better. This place has been around since the mid 60's, I discovered and I hope it still stands for years to come.

Yelp
This one-of-a-kind independent ice cream shop in Hamtramck took me back to my younger days before big chains took over the ice cream stand world. Lots of the usual softserve combinations and options, plus plenty of fried food including your own shrimp dinner, if you'd like. And get a wonderful dose of the diverse culture busy Hamtramck has to offer while you enjoy your dessert!

Yelp
I love this place! I've been coming here since I was a teen but hadn't been in years. The prices are low. The quality is high and the people are friendly. There's a nice selection of frozen treats and a couple of tables if you want to eat there. It's your standard walk up ice cream place but it does not disappoint.

Cameron T.

Yelp
Cool place lots of things to look at. Only thing is I asked for a dipped medium ice cream cone w vanilla. And it was probably the worse dipped ice cream cone I've ever had. But aye it's ice cream can't go wrong there.

Yelp
Great prices. Only gripe was that their sprinkles were rock hard. So as long as you skip this option on your sundae, you will enjoy it! Someone should really tell them though..
