Chef of Sunnyvale Restaurant Burma Taste Accused of Sexual Harassment | Eater SF

"I read that a server filed a lawsuit in Santa Clara County Superior Court accusing chef Sai Sakham Chou of Burma Taste, a Burmese restaurant on Murphy Avenue, of “repeated verbal and physical sexual harassment.” The complaint, filed on February 17 by the former employee identified as Jane Doe after about a year on the job, also names owners Win Min Thant and Khin Sandi Thu and alleges the owners and chef created a hostile work environment, failed to prevent the harassment, retaliated when Doe complained, and threatened other employees with termination if they assisted her; Doe said she felt “embarrassed and degraded” and noted that, as an immigrant from Myanmar, it’s rare in her culture to speak up about such accusations." - Lauren Saria

Went for dinner and food was pretty decent. As a vegetarian, I had no trouble choosing what to order since they have a ton of veggie options on the menu. We got house noodles and a tofu curry. They weren’t bad, but nothing special. I’m still thinking about trying their tea leaf salad, though. That might be the thing that makes me decide if I like them or not.

I love this part of downtown, so many places to visit and Burma Taste should be an included stop. I was able to sit outside for my lunch and is something I recommend if you have that option. Service is excellent and your choice will be at your table quicker than you’d think. I chose their Vegetable Curry and Coconut Rice. My meal was hot with fresh veggies and decent flavor. The sweetness of the rice went well with the curry. Keep in mind that rice is an extra charge. I added a Lychee Martini for my adult beverage that was refreshing a lychee sweet. There are tons of parking close by but the street is closed to traffic which allows you to people watch while enjoying the meal. Portions are great for the price so bro your appetite. If you are looking to try something different Burma Taste will deliver.

My first foray into Burmese food and I enjoyed it! As an app, we got the vegetarian curry and roti, which was probably my favorite dish. I got the Burmese chow mein, which I liked. The chicken was plentiful and yummy, but nothing extraordinary. My friend got the crispy chicken based on the server’s recommendation, and it was very crispy and well sauced. My other friend got a tofu curry, which had huge tofu slabs. The portion sizes are plentiful, which makes it worthwhile even though it’s a standard price. Service was also super fast, by the time it took the three of us to go to the bathroom, the food was out. Just note that rice is not included, you do have to buy it. Overall, I enjoyed this place and Burmese food in general

We chose this Burmese restaurant, the closest one on historic Murphy Ave, for our office lunch outing. We secured patio seating along the road, which was ideal for the lovely weather. Outdoor seating is preferable for larger groups. We kicked off with drinks, including Mango Mojito, Burma Dream, and Burmese Iced Milk Tea. The Burma Dream was complex and enjoyable, while the Burmese Iced Milk Tea didn’t go over well with the group - no one finished it. The Palata served with Veg Curry Dip or Chicken Curry Dip was as good as always, and the Sweet Chili Tofu was tasty. However, the Shrimp Rolls were disappointing, just shrimp in batter with no flavor, skip it. The Tea Leaf Salad was good, but the Mango Salad was even better - a must-try! Between the Fish Chowder Noodle Soup (Moat Hingar) and the Samosa Soup, we preferred the Moat Hingar as it was more rich in flavor. For entrees, we enjoyed the Black Pepper Lamb, Eggplant Shrimp with Garlic Sauce, Burmese Shrimp Curry and Fiery Vegetables. The Kebat Lamb and Kebat Veggie were a bit bland and could use more seasoning. We wrapped up with desserts: Coconut Pudding and Jackfruit Bananas. The Jackfruit Bananas were definitely the highlight. Both desserts were similar and came with ice cream, but the Coconut Pudding was in thick batter compared to the Jackfruit Bananas. Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed a wonderful team lunch.

Google
Tea leaf salad had a bit of a kick which was a pleasant surprise. Pumpkin/Squash was not very warm. Garlic noodles were not garlicky enough and the pork was just cold cut bbq pork.

Google
A pretty nice Burmese restaurant on Murphy Street in downtown Sunnyvale. We sat outside on a sunny day. The Burmese chicken curry stew with biryani rice was very flavorful. Another standout was the rainbow salad recommended by our waitress, which combined savory, sweet, spicy, and sour flavors (although just a little too sweet for my taste) and balanced the soft noodle texture with the crunchiness of the fried wonton skins and puffed rice very well. The garlic noodles were a little bland and the noodles seemed to come from pre-packaged, not freshly made in house. The sauce that came from it added more flavor but again, too sweet. Service was friendly. The water tasted a bit funny and we were not sure what it was. Price is a bit high, but given its location on the historic Murphy Street, it’s comparable to the other nearby restaurants.

Google
Pork belly and the sauce with the onions was phenomenal! Biryani was delicious. Garlic noodles could have used more garlic but was still amazing!

Google
There are many restaurants on the street. We picked this one to try something new. We are not disappointed. We recommend the tea leaves salad, with a unique taste unlike other salads. We also like the egg plant dish with yummy sauce, best served with rice. We would come back to try other dishes

Yelp
Decent food, good atmosphere. Went here for dinner to celebrate a birthday and they gave us a complimentary birthday vanilla ice cream with a candle, served with a sprinkle of edible birthday confetti flakes, a candy cherry , and orange slices in a martini cocktail (triangular) glass!! The ice cream was rich and creamy and had a gelato-like texture and consistency without feeling too thick or heavy. We ordered the black pepper beef, vegetable curry (green beans, carrots, okra, eggplant, tofu), and samosas. Loved the potato samosas!! The beef had nice flavor but was really tough and hard to chew/break apart for some pieces. The vegetable curry was soupy and tasted really good (green beans and tofu were a highlight, and eggplant was good but there was only 1 tiny partial piece of eggplant included in the dish), but doesn't come with rice. We had a nice dinner overall and the waitress gave us a bag automatically for our Togo boxes - that attention to detail was appreciated! Service was efficient and friendly!

Yelp
My friend and I visited this location on a Friday evening at around 7pm. When we arrived we were surprised that there was extra outdoor seating since the space is covered and has space heaters. We were greeted and seated immediately which was a huge plus in my book. To kick things off, we ordered several dishes to prepare for a family style meal. The first dish we ordered was the tea leaf salad since you can't go wrong with that - it ended up being mediocre. Compared to the previous tea leaf salads I've had such as Mingalaba in Burlingame, this one just didn't have the right kick. The next thing we ordered was the garlic noodles with shrimp - the noodles on this dish was bland, it really lacked flavor and there was about 5 shrimps in that dish... I highly do not recommend this dish. Lastly, we ordered the pepper chicken which was the highlight of the meal - pair it with a bowl of jasmine rice and it was pure perfection. Overall, I'd say definitely come and try it. My more accurate rating for this spot would be about a 3.7 stars.

Yelp
We came here on Sunday night for dinner. There was little wait and we were seated pretty quickly. The ambiance was lively and the waiters were super friendly and came to check in on us and fill up water multiple times. We ordered: - Tea Leaf Salad - Delicious and loved the flavor, highly recommend this! - Sesame Chicken with Jasmine Rice on the side - The Sesame Chicken was pretty good - a bit too sweet for my liking, but a good combination with the rice. The rice is not included and will need to be purchased separately. The portion sizes are very generous and you can easily share the food and eat it family style. Overall, I had a good experience and will be back in the future to try other items on the menu!

Yelp
My favorite Burmese restaurant! Stumbled on it on DoorDash. But it's too easy to miss if you're casually strolling on Murphy Ave. it's on the far end relative to where all the other restaurants are. Once you get there, there's both indoor/outdoor seating with casual ambiance. Service was good & faaast! Lychee Martini: 5+ stars!! If you like lychee this is it. It's not just faint flavoring but you can actually taste the fruit & comes with 3 pieces as garnish. The tea leaf salad & samosa soup won't disappoint you either - 5 stars! We tried Dessert Palata for the first time. It's basically Palata with ice cream and was pretty good.

Yelp
We were a group of 8 for dinner, went without reservation on a weekday and got a table inside right away. The ambience was alright. The service was friendly and efficient. We ordered a bunch of appetizers- Shan tofu, tea leaf salad, mango salad. The tofu was perfectly crispy and sauce was tasty. Tea leaf salad had good flavors with crispy lentils and peanuts. Mango salad was also good, but we liked tea leaf salad more. The server made/mixed the tea leaf salad at the table. Next we got two Samosa soups to share. It is a lentil soup with samosa, falafel and slaw toppings. Both the soup base and toppings were excellent. For mains, we got the crispy chicken and string beans which was both good. For dessert we shared a sweet black sticky rice which came with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. It was a good dessert and large enough to share for 4 people for small bites. Overall the service was quick and the food and drinks arrived quickly.

Yelp
We really wanted to like this place more than we did. The restaurant is located on historic Murphy Ave. They have plenty of seating, with a majority of it outside on Murphy Ave. The service was helpful and attentive to our questions and requests. The food was good, but nothing that would want to make me go back. The Samosas app was the highlight of the meal. They were hot and flaky and had good flavor. The special dipping sauce was a nice addition to the plate. The Tofu Garlic Noodles were just okay. We had hoped that they would be more garlic tasting and have the smoke flavor on them. The Basil Lemongrass Chicken plate was just okay. We didn't taste basil or lemongrass in this plate. We had high hopes. They do have a spicy sauce that added some heat to the plates. The drinks were just okay. We ordered a Lychee Martini, which had good flavor and came with three lychees. The Espresso Martini was too sweet for our liking and couldn't taste any alcohol. I don't think we will be back anytime soon.

Yelp
My friends and I went here on a Sunday night right before the dinner rush happened and was seated immediately. My friends decided to get palata with veggie curry dip to share. I wanted a tea leaf salad and got the Burma house noodles with chicken. My friends decided on the Burmese chicken curry, pineapple fried rice, and basil lemongrass veggie with tofu. The tea leaf salad was delicious. It had elements of crunchy, a little salty, and a bit of bitterness from the tea leaves. Definitely love the freshness factor and the server mixed it for us at the table. I cannot partake in the palata. The rest of my group said it was great especially with the curry. We were pretty excited when our main courses came. The house noodles were flavorful and with sweetness to it. I love the fresh veggies that came with it. Every bite was delicious. I did get to try my friend's food and the chicken curry had some good spice but wasn't my favorite. The veggies were delicious. One of my friends was not big on veggies but he really loved the veggies with tofu more than he liked the chicken curry. The service was great and they were attentive to all our needs. My friends and I would love going back here again.

Yelp
Delish food, wonderful service, and a great place with kids. We came with 2 other families (kids were ages 2-7). All their food was lovely and the staff were super kind and kid friendly. Sunday 1130a there was no wait and they quickly pulled together tables so our group of 12 could sit together. Food came out quickly and was SO good. Second time here and liked every dish. - Tea Lead Salad - Rainbow Salad (had a little kick even with no jalapeños ) - Burmese Swai Curry - Roti w/ curry - Garlic pork - Garlic chicken noodles - Chicken Biryani - Burmese noodles Everything except the rainbow salad was able to be zero spice. All delicious. Definitely would order all of these dishes again.

Yelp
Burma Taste is one of the few Burmese restaurants in South Bay, came on a Saturday for lunch with friends. They had covered outdoor seating, and we were seated promptly. It was also nice to sit outdoors and see people walking around on Murphy Ave. The Food: Tea Lead Salad (4/5) - A good appetizer to start with, very refreshing and savory for a warm summer day! Burmese Chicken Curry (3.5/5) - The curry and chicken was good, it just didn't stand out to me. Not too spicy nor was it herby. Tasted like a solid, southeast asian curry. Pumpkin Stew Pork (4.3/5) - One of the better dishes, the sweetness of the pumpkin came through, and the pork was very tender and paired nicely with jasmine rice. Fish Chowder Noodle Soup (4.3/5) - Very yummy soup and noodles, loved how thick and flavorful the soup was without being overbearing. The toppings that came on the side also added good variety to the dish. Only wish there was a bit more fish in the dish itself. Food was good, would probably try out a few other dishes next time. The staff were attentive and were quick to serve us.

Yelp
We went to a lovely lunch after our aunt's film screening shown at the AMC 12 Theatres 2-3 blocks away. Our aunt invited us to lunch at this lovely restaurant after the film screening and we sat outside, some 18 of us. We had lettuce wrap, string beans, tea leaf salad, red curry chicken, tofu garlic noodles. Everything was very tasty and I especially enjoyed the tea leaf salad! Now a new place to try again while we are in the area!

Yelp
TLDR: Burma Taste is one of my favorite restaurants in the downtown Sunnyvale area. While I don't have any other Burmese spot to compare this to, I can at least honestly say, I haven't walked away disappointed. Not every dish is a hit, but the overall flavors, quality, and experience makes it worth returning to. It's a great spot to eat with friends, family, party, and date night. It's also very vegetarian friendly, so you really can't go too wrong with choosing this spot. Food: 4/5 I've dined in and ordered take out from Burma Taste, and the quality is pretty much the same. If you've never had Burmese food, I'd say the dishes and flavors are similar to Indian food with hints of Chinese and Thai cuisines. Honestly, most likely the reason I like it so much. For the current economy, it's not too expensive for the quality and quantity of food. But, do expect a larger bill if you start ordering more than 3 entrees. - Crispy pork belly: my favorite small bite I've had, and it comes with a decent amount for the table to share - Samosas: nice starter, but come with only 4 pieces. - Palata: more ideal starter for a larger group and for those who enjoy pita/flatbread - Burmese curry: personally, we enjoyed this a lot and we let our rice soak in the sauce, but it was on the greasier side of most curries I've had - Fiery vegetables: not super spicy (keep in mind, I do have a pretty high tolerance for spicy food), but a nice variation to add to the meal - Garlic eggplant: sweeter than most eggplant dishes I've had, but not a horrible option Staff/Space: 5/5 The staff is very attentive and keep the wait time for food to come out to a minimum (both for dining in and takeout). There's a decent amount of space inside to accommodate various sized parties. There's plenty of parking usually around the area with the various parking lots and structures, but it does get crowded during the main dinner rush hours.

Yelp
My family's favorite Burmese restaurant in the Bay area! We tried them in the very first week they opened and I don't remember a single time we walked out disappointed. On our last visit, we had the Black Pepper Swai, the Burmese Chow Mein, and the Burma House Noodles. The Black Pepper Swai is definitely our favorite item on the menu - the fish is soft and flaky and the sauce is outstanding. The Burma House Noodles are also a crowd favorite - soft, chewy, and tangy - almost reminiscent of a Pad Thai, but better. The Burmese Chow Mein is also good. We always ask for their House Hot sauce - it's legit spicy and gives a nice kick to the food; a good option if you dine with kids who can't hack spicy food, but you need that extra heat. The service is fast and friendly and the ambience is welcoming. Highly recommend! Burma Taste IMHO is definitely on the way to become a Sunnyvale downtown institution if they can maintain the quality and service!

Yelp
Sadly, I forgot to take a picture of the two dishes I got, but both of the dishes were tasty!! I ordered the fiery chicken, and garlic broccoli. I was really curious on trying Burmese food since I've never had it before, and I called around lunchtime to ask if they had any MSG/monosodium glutamate in their food. The lady on the phone put me on hold and shortly after another lady picked up and asked if she could help me. Lol. I asked her the same question in regards to my food allergy to monosodium glutamate, and she told me there was no MSG in their food. Upon arrival, I asked the waitress there if they had any "MSG "in the food and she looked surprised and said most of the dishes, had MSG and or soy sauce. Soy sauce also has MSG unless the company uses tamari. Food allergies, such as mine are very problematic since I am Hapa and my own culture food. I'm all allergic to. Ugh. Nevertheless, I was able to order these two dishes and the garlic broccoli was delicious and broccoli had a fresh- nice crunch! The fiery chicken was rather spicy, so I wish I had ordered a beer! I will definitely take my leftovers home and have a beer with my white rice. Ambience was really relaxing and nice outside granted there were some random outdoor buggies, but I guess that just comes with the territory. I'm not too sure if I'll go back considering the majority of their food had MSG. But I did ask online and no one responded back. Lol maybe for dessert. Hee

Yelp
We had friends visiting from Castro Valley that have not eaten Burmese food before, never had tea leaf salad so i brought them to Burma Taste & let them have a go. I suggested they did the ordering so they can order what they are comfortable trying for their inaugural Burmese meal. The GF & I have dined here before & liked the food, service & ambiance. Burma Taste is a great place for date night, entertain friends & all occasions as it is in Murphy Square, THE picturesque spot in SVL.

Yelp
The vibe was really nice, enjoyed some Pinot noir, and 3 dishes I really loved, especially the Garlic Noodles, they were really good! I think they would do great with a greater wine selection of reds. I also liked the spicy veggies that had tofu, string beans and bell peppers. They were indeed very spicy but overall really good! Definitely coming back here with girlfriends or on a date
google avatar

Yelp
So glad this place was able to survive the Sunnyvale downtown curse. Typically, restaurants (excluding bars with food) only last 2-3 years tops here. Burma taste is fantastic! Why? It's consistent in taste, quality and potions. Don't think they increased their prices much or at all the past few years, grateful for that. My go to's are their jalapeño minty chicken (it isn't spicy) and their salt n pepper beef! I had their chicken roti for the first time for lunch today, blown away! Their greenbeans are also insane! Looks spicy, but isn't. The taste is so good, excited to hear up my left overs.

Yelp
My friend and I came here before seeing one of our favorite DJ's at Pure. There was no wait, and we got a table outdoors. We ordered the sesame tofu and Burmese house noodles with tofu. The sesame tofu was chef's kiss, perfectly crispy on the outside and bursting with flavour. The house noodles were good but a bit too sweet for my preference. Overall had a good experience though and would come back when visiting my friend.

Yelp
Nice ambiance in the outdoor seating area - great weather and seating arrangements were perfect last night. Ordered chicken biryani and eggplant garlic. Presentation was beautiful. Biryani flavors were subtle but wish they had been a little stronger; maybe I'm accustomed to the Indian biryani which has a stronger combination of spices. Eggplant garlic seemed a bit too sweet; had hoped it would be a little less spicy. Will give it one more try though. Service was spectacular; friendly staff and loved the lemon/cucumber water.
google avatar

Yelp
I come here anytime I am in the Bay Area, because it is so good here! Love the outdoor seating downtown, and the plethora of vegetarian options. This time I tried the black pepper tofu and it was perfectly seasoned, and paired perfectly with the coconut rice. They were also really nice and brought out a scoop of ice cream for my mom's birthday. I will be back!
google avatar

Neeta M.

Yelp
I gauge the quality of a Burmese restaurant by how they make their tea leaf salad. Burma taste has incredible amount of crunch to their salad and it's very tasty. They come over to your table to mix it up for you. I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty the samosas soup was - they give you the crispy portions separately, so things don't get too soggy. We sat outside in their verandah - their inside is nice too. Healthy and tasty!
google avatar

Shobhana V.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my dinner at Burma Taste with a friend's birthday. I truly enjoyed the samosa salad - the dressing was amazing. The flavors and textures were amazing as was the spice level, and the herbs added a unique touch. We followed the salad with mango tofu and rice - equally tasty and flavorful. The mango tofu was on the sweet side but well spiced. At less than $50 for two, this is a great place for vegetarians in a great ambience.

Yelp
I had one of the best meals ever! Loved every dish. Especially sweet chilli tofu! 1. Spring Rolls (3/5): (my parents loved it but I didn't) 2. Shaan Tofu (1/5): There was hardly any Tofu and it was too deep fried. 3. Spicy or Crispy Tofu (4.5/5): One of their starters / dry main courses where I subbed the Chicken with Tofu. It was amazing! 4. Sweet Chilli Tofu (5/5): (it's phenomenal!) Ask them to get the sweet sauce on the side - please not over it as it's wayyyyy to sweet then. 5. Burma House Noodle (5/5): (vegan, no egg in a separate wok with peanuts on the side). Tasted really good. Wish it had more veggies and was less greasy Will definitely come back to try more vegan options (I've heard that the tea leaf salad, mango tofu are all great vegan options) This is a vegan / veg / vegetarian / plant based review

Yelp
Was walking around Murphy street on Sunday looking for a place to eat and saw people seated outside Burma Taste. Dishes looked amazing so decided to try it. Just Ama-jing! 5 stars for me ! My only regret was my stomach was not big enough to try more yummy items but I'll definitely be coming back and do a part II review. Samosas 4/5 There were still stayed warm even sitting out side slightly chilly weather. Perfect balance of spiced potatos and peas. Tea leaf salad 5/5 Wanted my friend to try for the first time and was blown away. Fresh tea leaves w garlic and elements of crunch -peanut, sesame seeds and lime juice. Ama-jing! Fish chowder soup 5/5 Took a gamble on this one and turned out epic! Thin vermicelli noodles in a savory broth w fish n veggies. Not overpowered fish taste and well balanced. Loved the side of tumeric crisps and veggies you can drop into the soup to amplify the textures. Interior: 5/5 Cozy indoor and outdoor seating.wooden seat indoors w benches against the walls. Perfect date spot and food pics are IG worthy. Price: 4/5 Prices are good for the Murphy street area and they are offering a rare food experience not easily duplicated .Totally worth it ! Service: 4/5 Good service ..waited about 15 mins after the order and salad came out first, then the soup and samosas. We had food left over gave us boxes but no bag. Parking Tip* Large parking lot across the street but was completely full on Sunday afternoon. We had to drive around a bit but found a secret parking lot behind the restaurant with some open spots . ( Corner of Evelyn and S. Sunnyvale.) Google" EV gocharging lot "

Yelp
Got the Tea Leaf Salad and the Coconut Noodle Soup --- both delicious! I've never had Burmese food before so this was a very pleasant experience. I'd love to come back and try their other menu items.

Yelp
Come back again after a while to take my family to dinner! And it's still as amazing as ever! If I'm being honestly the food tastes even better than before.. maybe I've just gotten better at ordering . The service was as great as ever. They were attentive and helpful. It was just a great experience. Definitely taking my family here again!

Yelp
We've been wanting to go to this place for a while, and last night we finally did! We went on a Saturday night and there was no wait for us which was nice. We got the samosas, the chicken curry, and the fiery tofu with lamb and overall enjoyed everything! The samosas were pretty big, with a good amount of filling and a very crispy exterior. The chicken curry was good, nice flavor on the curry and the chicken was very tender and juicy. I also loved the fiery tofu with lamb! The tofu itself had a nice chewy texture, the lamb was cooked very well and the sauce had a good amount of spice without being overwhelming. I'd definitely come back!

Yelp
We celebrated Mother's Day here a couple weeks ago. We sat outside and they drew the shades for us. We ordered: Tea leaf salad: 5/5 the best item we ordered. Nice crispy and refreshing. Palata with chicken curry: 5/5 chicken curry dip sauce was amazing. Great flavor. Honey Walnut shrimp: 2/5 not very good. Skip this. We had some at home eats the week before and it was decent there. I guess kids don't like walnut shrimp. Crispy pork belly: 4/5 kids enjoyed this crispy breaded pork. Burma house noodle beef: 2.5/5 a super sweet version of pad thai. Eggplant garlic: 4/5 good Sesame tofu: 3/5 this is sweet but not as sweet as the noodles. If we go back I would stick with the tea leaf salad and curry chicken.

Yelp
This is my first time trying Burmese food and I was pleasantly surprised. Everything tasted great and I really liked the Burmese iced tea. The food came out quick and the service was friendly. If you never had Burmese food before and like Thai or south asian food, give this place a try!

Yelp
Great option! I'm a regular at Burma Choice in San Jose so I was happy to find out that Burma Taste served as the blueprint for the San Jose location. My recommendations: Nan Gyi Thoke - mild coconut sauce that is very smooth. I like to ask for spice to be added at medium level. Honey Glazed Walnut Shrimp - Great for sharing and not too sweet. Samosas - Delicious. Crunchy in the outside and good level of seasonings. The accompanying sauce has a light sweetness. Service: Wait staff was very attentive and the food came out quickly. Ambiance: Warmly lit cozy vibes. It was busy, but there was plenty of seating on a Friday night for dinner.

Yelp
I've been to many Burmese restaurants, and really love the food! This was quite a disappointment today. Ordered the tea, salad chicken, fried rice, and pumpkin curry with shrimp. Sadly, none of these were good. Lacked flavour overall, and quite bland. The pumpkin curry was surprisingly bad with big chunks of pumpkin thrown together that was not even fully cooked so they were a little hard to eat, very unlike pumpkin curry at a Thai restaurant that I absolutely love. My bad if this is what pumpkin curry in the Burmese style is like but I was not impressed. The service was good, and the outside seating was really good as well. The only nit there was, they did clean the table, but there was all kinds of food thrown on the floor, which nobody bothered to clean.
google avatar

Jocelyn S.

Yelp
Came here for another weekday date night! Like last time, the tea leaf salad was solid. I tried their mohinga, my favorite Burmese dish, and it didn't disappoint! Lastly, we got the shan tofu which was really oily. It would have been delicious with the sweet spicy sauce but the greasiness was too much. The plate actually had oil pooling at the bottom. I wish they let the tofu sit on paper towels before serving. No wait on a Tuesday evening. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Though indoor seating tended to get kind of noisy and outdoor seating didn't always get attention.

Yelp
Burma taste was so good! Definitely will be coming here again as a stop when I am in norcal. Everything was so authentic and the restaurant is in a popular plaza with much to do and good boba. The crispy pork appetizer was so good and legit and will definitely get that again. The noodles here are also so good and full of flavor. Workers were super helpful and helped me order what was good. Food also came out very fast and quickly too! Definitely go here for some amazing Asian food

Yelp
Tea leaf salad is bomb Great crunch and a fun combination of textures. Other food is great as well. Great place to get some Burmese food. Their dishes are well spiced but not overpowering. Meat is generous in portion and tender. Only qualm is that rice doesn't come with the dishes and you gotta pay extra ($2.50 for a small bowl?)

Yelp
This place has been on our list of places to try for some time, but it wasn't until this evening that we finally made it. After enjoying the Caltrain holiday train festivities nearby, we strolled on over and arrived a little over an hour before closing. The restaurant was not busy at all and we got seated right away and considered our options on the menu. As we were a small group we didn't order a lot of items tonight, and it was a bit agonizing deciding what to get because there are many interesting dishes to choose from. We feasted on the following: Tea leaf salad - the first time I ever had this, at a restaurant up in Belmont, I didn't like it. But we had heard that Burma Taste does this well. Their version consists of romaine lettuce with a fermented green tea paste and a variety of crunchy elements, with just a little bit of jalapeno to give it a bit of heat. I rather liked this quite a bit, it probably could have used a little more of the green tea flavor. Mango shrimp - the shrimp was expertly cooked, and the mango pieces were tender and sweet, but not cloyingly so. Sesame tofu - battered and fried cubes of tofu in a sweet sesame sauce. Overall very good, probably could have used a little of of spice to balance the sweetness. We also got an order of coconut rice and biryani rice, both of which had good flavor though the biryani probably wasn't the right pairing for our dishes. I expected the biryani rice to be a little spicy, but it actually wasn't. A note about the seafood dishes: you have a choice of either shrimp or swai. Personally, I don't find swai to be an especially flavorful fish, so I was a little disappointed that this was the only option. But I might give it a try here, since it's the seasonings that I'd be tasting, and swai does actually have a decent flaky texture. Prices were okay, maybe just a little on the higher side but the portions were fairly generous. Our final tally for the three dishes, two servings of rice, and one beer was about $90 including tip. Service was prompt and attentive, and our food came out very quickly. Definitely a good first experience. I'm looking forward to trying other things on future visits.

Yelp
Great food, very very different from the usual fare I try. My first time at this Burmese restaurant. Our group of 4 did mostly small plates and our and favorite picks were the tea salad, Samosa soup, sweet chilli tofu and the lettuce wraps. For dessert we tried the fried banana jackfruit, and the sticky black rice....both served with ice cream. All of these were lip smacking good. They have a full bar as well and the cocktails were superb...esp the passionfruit martini! Clean and nice ambience, friendly service, parking was easy and a lot of vegetarian options. Definitely try if you are on the Murphy downtown at Sunnyvale.

Yelp
The fish curry was so flavorful. The fish pieces were tender. Coconut rice was more sweet than expected. The beef curry was delicious! Would recommend! Service was great. Wait time was minimal. The interior is nice.

Yelp
The service was very attentive and all meals came out quickly. The food was great. The interior has an updated look and clean. I especially liked the ginger chili pork which had a slight kick and wonderful taste.

Yelp
Pretty good Burmese restaurant in Sunnyvale. I got the tea leaf salad and the mango chicken. The food was decent, but not sure if it's the best of either I've had before. There's a good amount of seating both inside and outside, and the servers were all very kind. Overall, good Burmese food for the area but personally not my favorite. Worth the try though.

Yelp
This is an excellent restaurant along an adorable restaurant row! The food quality was top notch with each dish being a 5/5. We had the tea leaf salad, roti with chicken, noodles with chicken, and spicy eggplant with shrimp. This was plenty for two people. The service was friendly with recommendations on the menu. The food came out fast and hot. I highly recommend trying this spot when in the area.

Yelp
One of the waitstaff (off hours) was sitting at the table behind us. He came over twice to our table to mention that our 3 person table was too loud in the back area. We were celebrating a birthday and it was a Sunday night. He was threatening to our table and started to approach our table in a semi-confrontational way. The birthday girl already spoke to the restaurant. This was a couple weeks ago. The food was great overall, and I love all the other restaurant locations!

Yelp
I went out with friends on a weekday for lunch as it just opened. It's located in Sunnyvale with other restaurants and clubs nearby. It was not busy during lunch hours. There are booths inside so plenty of seating. For the food, we got samosas, eggrolls, Burma house noodles, and dessert palata. The samosas were simply delicious and had a spicy, aromatic kick to it if you were to eat more of them. As for the eggrolls, they were okay and could be decently better if they had more crunch to them. The Burma house noodles reminded me of pad thai but with a different taste as it had bell peppers and more vegetables added to it. For dessert palata with ice cream, it was like flatbread drizzled with condensed milk which was such a good warm, sweet combination! I would come here again and try the other dishes.

Yelp
Why does Burma Taste not have more reviews and ratings?? I have not been able to stop thinking about their food for weeks! My friends and I ordered takeout from Burma Taste and got our large nine-item order in about 20 minutes. All we heard during dinner was a symphony of "oh my god" and "MMMM"--that's how good the food is. Our favorites were the eggplant, tea leaf salad, Nan Gyi Thoke, and samosas. The thick slices of eggplant were tender and garlicky. They cooked them in a way that nicely retained the skin's purple hue. The tea leaf salad was a perfect refreshing side and a full textural experience with crispy, crunchy fried bits. The Nan Gyi Thoke was flavorful and heart-warming; it tasted like a delicious home-cooked meal. For the samosas, the potato filling was treated with a nice assortment of spices that left you wanting more even though you were probably full from half due to its sheer size! I'm daydreaming about my next visit to Burma Taste...

Yelp
We love burmese food so I decided to book a reservation here. They can be quite busy so it is a littler hard to get ahold of them on the phone. Our table was nicely set up for us by the time we arrived and service is quick. It can be a little hard to get their attention as they are a very popular restaurant. As a party of 12, we decided to split into three orders to make things easier. We ordered a tea leaf salad, coconut rice, nan gyi dok, lamb curry and fried pork belly. We also ordered a few drinks that were extremely flavorful and fresh. The food was high quality and delicious. My main gripe is the portions as we ordered 4 dishes and most of us were still hungry after the meal. The lamb curry also came out after everyone had finished their food. The staff were all very nice when coordinating the birthday dessert and as soon as we finished our last dish, they brought out an ice cream with a candle to the birthday boy as we all celebrated. Great place for parties and food~

Yelp
Raving about the lemon water, such a small thing but makes a huge difference! Complimentary and thank you for a refreshing beverage! They also are great about refills without any prompting. Service was very warm overall. Great samosas - the size of an adult fist, you get four of them. Perfectly fried and the aromatic curry was delightful. The veggie curry with tofu - flavorful and lots thinly sliced fried tofu. Pumpkin stew, typically with pork we subbed lamb, lamb was pretty tough and dry. Stew - good. Tea leaf salad - extra garlicky and some heat too, Portions were generous and still felt light. It was nice to sit indoors next to the open patio so we could get a little fresh air with a cool blast of AC. Definitely on my shortlist for DT Sunnyvale,

Yelp
Lunch with friends! Ordered a few dishes to share and each one was very full flavored. I wanted to keep eating even though I was full! It was a nice spacious restaurant with space to fit our party of 15. Definitely a family style restaurant and options for individual eating which some in our group decided to do. Service was great filled our waters and asked how we are doing. I would come back again food was so delicious I'm thinking about it again!

Yelp
There were plenty of free parking available around this restaurant. They offer indoor and outdoor dining. We opted for indoor dining. Once we entered the restaurant, we were greeted and seated by a friendly waitress. We ordered the Burmese iced milk tea, rainbow salad, nan gyi thoke, pumpkin pork stew, and coconut rice. The food came out in a timely manner. When the waitress brought over the rainbow salad and nan gyi thoke, she mixed them for us. The Burmese iced milk tea was refreshing and it wasn't too sweet, which we liked. The tamarind dressing was paired well with the rainbow salad. The nan gyi thoke and pumpkin pork stew were tasty and flavorful. The pork chunks were lean and tender, which we really liked. The prices were fairly reasonable and they gave generous portions. The helpful waitress provided excellent service. We will be back to try their tea leaf salad and other entrees.
