Unfortunately, this place was pretty disappointing, overall. I hate to leave this review given that it seems like a small family run business, but I am always honest with reviews.
Note: I tried the multiple meat platter and didn't try any tacos or anything like that other than meat itself.
Their brisket slices were quite thin and also very dry. As soon as any BBQ is dry, it's just automatically bad by default. Nothing more needs to be said. Even dousing it with sauce couldn't save the dryness. Speaking of the sauce, it wasn't great. The spicy wasn't spicy and just generally, it did not stand out.
SOME parts of some of the burnt ends were really good and some of it was thick, tough, and dry as a bone. So the burnt ends were both good and bad, depending.
The sausage was mediocre. Not very flavorful, but it was at least moist. It wasn't good nor bad. I'll put it this way, I bought some Johnsonville sausage from Kroger and BBQd it on a public charcoal grill and it came out juicier and just as flavorful, if not more, than the sausage I had here.
The Cole slaw was very underwhelming. That is the only side I tried, so can't speak for the rest.
The one thing I did enjoy completely was the pulled pork . It was juicy, moist, and well seasoned; didn't need much at all. For everything else, I could've used some salt at the table, which should never be necessary at a good Texas BBQ joint.
Not trying to be overly nitpicky, but even the Texas toast and the pickled condiments that came with it seemed lacking/cheap. Although, this is a minor point. I was not a fan of most of what I ate here. My fiance had the same opinion, cept she didn't even like the pulled pork. She liked the burnt ends more than me.
I hope this place improves in the future. It seems like a place that was maybe good at one time, then fell off and the hype wore off.
Edit: lower to 1 star for bitter and unprofessional reply from owner, when I'm just giving constructive criticism and being honest. Shows he's sensitive and not open to change. Stubborn.
