"If you’re reading this guide due to a perverted little love of all things locomotive, then please know that this Leyton BBQ joint does an exceptional job of recreating the magic of being packed into a rush-hour commuter carriage. At peak times, everyone squishes on to uniform bench seating and trades personal space for something much better—eating an exceptionally juicy double patty masterpiece of a burger. Embrace the chaos, at least 3-5 napkins, and seeing as it’s BYOB, pick up a cloudy bottle of Czech orange from nearby converted archway Swirl." - heidi lauth beasley
"Burnt, a stripped-back BBQ spot near Leyton Midland Road station, has the kind of platters that Instagram’s algorithm feeds you in your hungriest moments. Charred pieces of tender spring lamb, smoky discs of beef sausage, and sides that’ll put your Lactaid to the test: mac and cheese, creamy potato salad, chicken salt fries. The burger is our favourite thing to get here. It’s so juicy that by the final bite, our bottom bun had all but disintegrated." - rianne shlebak
"Personal space isn’t the order of the day at Burnt, a Midland Road BBQ joint. Burgers are. Specifically a jaw-stretching, napkins-required, double-patty smashburger that we’re willing to contort ourselves onto a tiny shared table for. Feel free to reframe the peak-time queues as ‘carnivorous mental preparation time’ so that once your spot on the casual bench seating is ready, you’re all set to go toe-to-toe with their big, halal BBQ platters and that juicy burger." - heidi lauth beasley
"This BBQ spot in Leyton has an excellent menu that includes a Lactaid-testing mac and cheese. But the best thing here is the burger. Prep a pile of napkins and stretch your jaw to fit this double patty burger—not ideal when perfect strangers are squished together on small sharing tables. Take in the melted american cheese, fried onions, and tender patties. And take it as a good sign that by the final bite, the bottom bun—now soaked in beef fat—is all but disintegrated." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"Burnt has a halal menu and hefty BBQ platters. But the burger is our favourite thing to get. It’s so juicy and buttery that by the final bite, the bottom bun will have all but disintegrated. Hunker down in the archway near Leyton Midland Road station, elbow-to-elbow on a shared table with strangers, and try not to make eye contact as you stretch your jaw biting into your double patty smashburger. The beef is incredibly tender, the onions are well caramelised, and the homemade dill cucumber pickles bring some much-needed tang." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
