I love doing business with Burpee Gardens! They offer an amazing selection of plants and services including free advice and a guarantee on the purchase. Everything is of good quality. Shipping is rapid and safe for live plants and other products. I purchased some lovely fig trees that arrived safely and quickly. I also purchased plant food for my house plants and lawn. I highly recommend Burpee Gardens for all your plant needs.

Placed an order that was supposed to ship within two weeks and arrive by Christmas. Eventually delayed until 1/1. Except it never arrived and no updates given. I put in a ticket and received no word back. When I called, customer service was rude and unhelpful. Finally had to cancel my order.

Sent me thoroughly diseased plants. Got a refund, but now I have to take extra measures to sanitize the dirt they were planted in. Frankly, I have 1000% expected that this would not happen when you deal with such a large and supposedly reputable company. And it sucks too, because I bought some nice organic soil for it too. Now that all has to go away

My review and a Honest One hard to come by now a days …last winter I was thinking about starting a garden ( a friend of mines had a garden and his house during the winter and I was amaze cause it’s freezing there aka Canada ) any way. Was searching for veggies seeds ( first time having a veggie garden ) well anyway I went on Walmart and look at seeds and such and I was thinking no harm no foul if it’s grow so best it if not I didn’t spend tons of cash for seeds and my surprise this seed company had seeds that really sprout and took over lol …already thinking about next year crops ….dont think just do …Grow a Garden …will by again

Soooo disappointed. I ordered two butterfly bush plants for $16.95 each and $13 shipping that were tiny 4 inch twigs with a few leaves when they arrived. One was moldy and looked old. Customer service was telling me to plant them to see if they grew? I went to Lowe's and purchased a beautiful gallon butterfly bush for the same price. Never again. I have purchased hundreds of dollars in seeds before. Now I am questioning that next purchase as well.

I received my plants yesterday and this is how they came in. I am shocked that someone packaged these up and thought this is what I was paying for. This didn't happen during shipping. It takes a lot longer for this bad health to occur. I sent an email with pictures asking for a refund. We will see. I do not think I will go back either way. And by the reviews, I am not alone. I do not think this is the company it used to be. sad but true. I am editing my review to reflect the current information. They have processed a refund and apologized. That is all I can ask for at this point. I added an extra star for the quick follow up

I just received the new catalog an OMG. $6.45 for Sungold tomato seeds?! $7.95 for mini watermelons?! Plus shipping! That's nearly half a dollar for a single watermelon seed. ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?

Been buying seeds and supplies for many seasons now. Seeds, are great. Processing time is very slow though. Not sure why it takes over a week to fulfill a few seed packets. Not sure why it takes so long and it doesn't seem to matter what time of year. Usually takes about 2 weeks to receive after ordering. Just make sure you give enough time and order early.

Just don't do it. For years I bought my vegetable plants from Lowes with decent results. I remember my grandpa and dad ordering from Burpee so decided to "up my game". Big mistake. First off, they were shipped far past when they should have already been in the ground. Making it worse is the plants are TINY. I doubt any of them will bear this season. To make it worse, one of the pepper plants was dead on arrival, the parsley and dill were yellow (they wont make it) and one of the tomato plants already had blight on the leaves. I went ahead and planted everything that looked like it may live but every time I walk past it, I get mad so will rip everything out and go buy more mature and healthy plants from Lowes. Learned my lesson.

I ordered plants from burpee and only received part of the order. I started a customer service ticket on thier web site. It 2 nearly 2 weeks for a response from them. The response simply said that thier records show I received my order. The plants were not cheap and now I'm out that monet. Poor customer service.

I challenged a charge and it remained on my account. Was told someone would research and get back to me. Never happened.

One Star because you cannot give ZERO stars. I am Sorry to be Blood Related to this company. Place an Order, No urgency to fill nor ship your order., Bad Enough USPS Fecked up delivering it to me. Let's try them one last time. LAST time. Place an order, PAY for said order. SIX days later they finally ship it. Lets see what USPS handles it this time????? Used their chat bot to no avail last night. Talked to them in Person today. That was fruitless. Where's my Order? Well you placed it 2 days ago and we ship within 3-5 Business Days. NO, I placed and Paid for it 6 days ago! I have the receipt. Well our record say that the post office has it now. WTF!? How hard is it to gather 10 packets of Seeds, should them into an envelop[e and MAIL it!?? Effing Worthless

I ordered seeds and tomato plants and when half of the tomato plants arrived, (the other half still has yet to arrive) the soil had totally dried out, and their shipping containers, which were no doubt designed because they are light and make the shipping less expensive, had separated and the plants had lost much of their soil. The plants were small and stressed and even with water and inside time, the leaves continued to dry out. I have planted them anyway and they look totally marginal.. They are not the healthy, vital, stable plants that will result in healthy tomatoes and will likely die before they put out new leaves. When I contacted customer service by the "may I help you?" bot, it was pro forma with no intention of satisfying a customer. I have photos of the crushed box, because the inside packaging was so light, as well as the plants but they are not at all interested in seeing what their service produces. Not at all worth the effort and price...

Another great experience with Burpee - thumbs up! Johnny's Seeds let me down 2 years in a row...but Burpee came through with flying colors! I'm a fairly large one-man producer for several local farmers markets. So I can't afford to mess around. I made a pretty big order months ago, when there was still snow on the ground. Burpee shipped everything (seeds and live plants) exactly on time and in perfect shape. This was the first time I've ordered on-line. Of course, I've purchased their seeds over the decades at local retailers...neighborhood grocery stores, local big box home improvement stores, and my local feed store. I do not have a green thumb at all. But buying plants from Burpee allowed me to grow beautiful flowers this year! Their instructions are complete and their website has an FAQ section for every item. You can call in, email or chat online and their customer service is super helpful. And they even have a resident Horticulturist who will get back to you with any information not online! Once you register they have great sales and coupon codes as well. As long as you read their product information you cannot go wrong!

Made an order over a month ago, said to ship immediately as I was growing indoors. No response, no plants. Sent no less than 4 emails and left a phone message.. nothing. Is this a scam site?

Burpee's used to be my favorite seed company but not any more. I ordered some plants and asked that they ship them according to my growing zone which was different than the growing zone that comes up based on my zip code. They said they could not do that! What? I have had to do that with other companies and it was no issue at all. I can't have them ship a month sooner than I would be able to plant them! Had to cancel the order. The customer service woman was super nice and went the extra mile for me but her management would not help with this. I wonder what other people do who are buying plants for their 2nd homes that are in different zip codes, I am sure there must be people who do this. Well, it may be a good thing since the last time I ordered from them they sent the wrong plants! There are plenty of other companies I can do business with so I won't be ordering from Burpees again and will not recommend them to my friends.

So disappointed and angry with my burpee shipment. I thought I ordered plants. I received puny, sad seedlings with broken limbs and black leaves. A $14 agastache arrived with two sets of true leaves. I don't know how a company I considered reputable sent these "plants" out. The echjnacea, $14 each (plus shipping), arrived with 2-3 sets of true leaves. What a rip off. Never again. I reached out to customer service. Was told to send an email with pics, which I did last night. I'll update once I hear back. Update: Burpee got back to me really quickly once I posted reviews of my experience online. They refunded me more than I requested, which I really appreciate. The truth is, right up to the pint of receiving the refund, my experience with customer service was really bad, they are slow to respond to emails and at times didn't respond at all. Even after the refund, for the cost I'm left with I still don't feel that the plants I'm left with are even a decent value--i wouldn't have spend that cost on these if I'd known what I was getting, even after part of my money was refunded. Burpee, thank you for trying to make this right, but I really won't be back.

Every year my neighbors and passers-by always praise my garden for its lush beauty; everything came from BURPEE. Every live-plant order is followed through promptly and arrives perfectly in time for planting. My garden is 20 years old now; I still order from BURPEE. Today I opened a package of seeds and it didn't have the proper quantity. I called the toll-free number and AJ helped me while sharing her happy uplifting mood. A new package of seeds is on its way. I just had a great phone call with Burpee. I grew several varieties in my garden when I was a kid, and wanted the authentic Burpee Big Boy tomato this year. Not only has this variety been a standard since 1949, but the company has a gorgeous catalog and excellent customer service. You can't go wrong with Burpee Seeds!

Business operating during the pandemic, "thanks, but no thanks" Review #8 i write this with a heavy heart. i've been an avid gardener since i was five and growing radishes at my Grandfather's house on Mable Street. with their short growing spurt, radishes fit nicely into my equally short attention span. i loved eating them "French-style" (a smear of butter and a sprinkle of fleur de sel) at lunch with my kindergarten girlfriend Christy Canfield. for more than four decades, i've shopped with Burpee's and have successfully grown everything from peanuts and popcorn to more staple "crops" like squash and tomatoes. i hardly ever shop for produce. i mention that so you'll understand this year's garden was not my first rodeo, so to speak. growing conditions were optimal (including the moon phase -- that's how old hippies plant), in the high seventies and low eighties with overnight lows in the sixties. the ambrosia cantaloupes (i don't usually buy hybrids but ambrosia's an amazingly sweet, wilt resistant strain you need close to the coast) sprouted at just under 50%. still the absolute BEST melon around. the arugula was prolific. could not eat and give it away fast enough. was so overwhelmed, i did not do a second planting. just picked tender new leaves as they sprouted. things were all downhill from there: the tomatillos were VERY disappointing. in three plantings, got just one plant. it was supposed to be a "jumbo" variety but the fruit was undersized. the poblanos were VERY disappointing. in three plantings, got just one plant. with such a late start, will have to wait and see how productive that one plant's going to be. the eggplants were extra VERY disappointing. in three plantings, two varieties, got just zero plants. i've noticed there's an inverse relationship between how much marketing a company does and the quality of their products. good companies count on repeat business and word-of-mouth for sales. bad companies count on advertising. i should have realized all the email and flyers i got from Bumpee's this year was a bad sign.

Still the best seeds in the world. At one time it was the largest distributor of flower and vegetable seeds in the world. As a teenager in the mid-1970's, I sold Burpee seeds door-to-door in Horsham, PA. I sold out so fast i had to reorder another box from the company. I had one lady say to me, "Why did it take you so long to get to my house? My friend told me you were selling Burpee seeds." It still brings joy to my heart when I see a Burpee seed display in a store. Best seed for the value your get!

I ordered two dozen tomato plants on April 3, 2020 online. Because of the Covid-19 issues shopping from Home Depot was out. Last year I had wonderful success with tomato plants from Big Orange!! So I thought Burpee, a "well respected" name would be my answer. Tick Tock the clock was running. I contacted Burpee online and never received a response in mid-May. I went to their Facebook page and sent a message and received a response. So they don't respond to their onsite contact form but they do respond on social media. I'm not impressed. So in FB messenger I explain my situation and the customer service looks into it. Oh my, half my order is unavailable do to demand. Great, I had my order placed in early April, delivery according to their site based on my Zone was April 27th and I'm discussing this on May 15th. So I was out 1/2 my order, received a refund on May 20th. My plants finally arrive in late May in poor condition. Now I am not giving any ground to Burpee because of the pandemic, if you want to set up online and have huge amounts of products for sale then your system should be set up for most events. I'm quite familiar with online sales & logistics. The problem is, they were selling products and mine got lost in the shuffle. And the communication from their website was nil. I shouldn't have to go to social media to resolve a problem, your website should be set up to handle this, especially if you're offering that sort of communication. Now let's discuss the merchandise. As I said, the plants were in fairly poor condition. In case Burpee wishes to respond I'm a Master Gardner in my non-professional life. This is not my first planting season, I've done large vegetable gardens from seed & plants, raised gardens and I've had great success with vegetable plants in large pots and other containers over the years so I don't wish to entertain any excuses. The tomato plants are doing fair with 2 out of 6 being very spindly although all 12 were planted in similar containers, outdoor amended potting soil, cages and they are watered and reside in full sun. I'm slowly getting some tomatoes but overall it's a bust. Last year I had Bonnie brand from Home Depot and the bounty was truly amazing. I used the same planting methods, nothing changed accept where I got the plants. Never, ever again!!! Burpee was a complete failure from A-Z!! Burpee has no empathy or compassion for new customers! Burpee has no empathy or compassion for their first time customer here. I received 20% which I greatly appreciated. I had to spend over $60 in order to take advantage of the 20% which is more than I had in mind. However, when I placed an order that weekend of April 21. They had a free shipping coupon going on at the same time to waive $3.95. I was denied for a free shipping. Their supervisor said no. I tried again to explain that I could easily go to Amazon or eBay. They didn't care. So, I guess I won't be shopping there again until they adjust their attitude toward to new customers.

I'm not entirely disappointed as I'll continue to order seeds from Burpee. Could be better in a few ways. I haven't had as little success with my seeds as some others who have taken the time to provide feedback. I do, however, agree with the grievances surrounding shipping fees for non-seed items (but it's only a $2.99 flat shipping when buying only seed packets). Then there is the unfortunate and frustrating parcel "tracking" that is provided. It was with UPS then USPS took custody of it at some point and then it was sitting at my local PO since morning of Friday through the following Tuesday and seeds arrived Tuesday afternoon just at the tail end of the promised timeframe. Orders are processed only Monday-Friday and they do not ship out on weekends. 3-10 business day delivery...so for me it ended up being a total of 14 calendar days. Guess it just depends on distance and purchased items. I only ordered seeds. I'm in California and Burpee is in Warminster, PA. I am pleased with their website and ordering experience. User friendly and nice to browse through. Some good resources. I don't have anything negative to say about the seeds I've received this far.

Tried to leave this review on the Burpee site but it got censored because...? They don't want anyone to know how bad their service is? Anyway, beware. Bad product and service. ....... A mess when they arrived I received my 6 craspedia plants yesterday and could not believe how poor the packaging was. Plants were out of the pack, a couple with minimal dirt around the roots. Leaves on some are bent. (And soil from the box got all over my outdoor cushion but that's the least of my worries). You can see for yourself in the photos. I called customer service right away because of the poor shape they were in. After about 20 minutes on hold (it was Saturday, so likely a skeleton crew and I get that), I finally spoke to someone. I told her my craspedia just arrived and they are a mess (described the box). She asked if they were green and alive. I said, yes, but the roots are pretty bare on a few. She said that as long as they are alive, I should get them in the ground ASAP and perform a little CPR on them. As long as they are alive, they wouldn't send replacements (they don't have any) or issue a refund. If they die, call them back. No sorry. No accepting responsibility for bad packing. She said it sounded like the box got turned upside down and that's what caused it. Ya think? Does Burpee expect a package to not be turned the wrong way during shipping? I've received many plants in the mail that have been fine. This was a result of poor packaging plain and simple. I was honestly dumbfounded by the lack of accountability so I just said I would plant them and see and ended the call. So I will see if they live and I will call if they don't. And I will also never buy live plants from Burpee again. Or maybe anything else.

Horrible attitude - don't ship as promised and when I called to inquire/complain that I had paid over a month ago and promised a ship date that had passed a week ago Geneen's response was "well we have customers who have been waiting since November" as of even worse service to other customers somehow makes it alrighe. Couldn't say when order might finally ship and when I canceled wouldn't give me any number to confirm cancelation. do not order plants from Burpees! It's a shame because I thought it was a good company with a good reputation but they are extremely rude.

I purchased packs of peppers (jalapeno, carnival, and poblano) from Burpee. None of the seeds are what they were advertised as. This was a waste of money, time, electricity, garden space, water, and nutrients. When I confronted Burpee about this widely known issue they responded by removing my reviews that called them out for this problem. I would recommend you use local suppliers or more reputable ones because Burpee will not make good on mistakes that they, or their suppliers whom they should have vetted, make.

The bean seeds sent in the "Bush Bean" packet were everything BUT bush beans. They were some sort of pole bean that resulted in a such a tangle mess of vines that the entire crop was lost. In that same order (spring 2023), the seeds in the "Roma VF" packet were NOT Romas, but a mixture of paste and slicer tomatoes. Germination of these seeds was less than 50%. I filled a complaint on Burpee's web site twice, but was not contacted after either submission. I've been growing my own plants from seeds for over 40 years and this was one of the most disappointing gardens ever, if not the worst!

My first order with Burpee and sadly, I won't be ordering again. When you order, it gives you a ship window for your area; turns out that's just some random date that they have zero intention of fulfilling. Called customer service a week after my expected ship date, she tells me that it is a 2 week ship window (talk about small print) and that actually, some of my order won't ship until April (I ordered middle of February in Zone 8). They certainly waited no time to take money for the order and the $20 shipping right away! With so many places to shop online and businesses that offer free shipping, why would I shop at Burpee? Incidentally, I ordered live plants from another predominantly slow shipper, Zulily, same day as my order with Burpee, and my plants will be here before my plants from Burpee even ship! And I didn't pay extra for shipping on the other order.

I ordered plants for my spring/summer garden. I placed the order online and the shipping for my zone was supposed to be within a week. Four weeks later these SUB PAR seedlings sold as plants arrived... and that was after 4 emails and 3 unsatisfactory phone calls to their customer service. BUYER BEWARE!!!

I have been a long time Burpee customer for almost 60 years. I ordered 6 cedar planter boxes for my grandchildren. After filling them only halfway with dirt, one of the bottom pieces collapsed and all the dirt fell out. The bottoms of the other boxes were also starting to bow. The bottom piece is plastic and about a 1/4 inch thick, not sturdy enough to support the dirt. I called customer service multiple times and got the run around. I was assured that someone would call me back. Someone finally called after 2 weeks and told me all I have to do is flip the piece over and it will be fine. NO, it will not!!!! My son, who is handy, had to cut planks to add support to the bottom of the boxes. It is unfortunate that Burpee does not stand behind the product that it sells. They were not interested in my satisfaction at all.

Fraudulent company. Ordered over $300 this year. Plant orders partially filled. Customer service will then claim order was sent, despite an entire plant order weighing just 1.7 lbs according to shipping. Customer service the hangs up on you. Will be disputing all charges on my card.

3/30/21 Just received plants ordered 2/10/21. Zone 10 Condition: DOA! I'll try CPR and place them in ICU, but don't hold out much hope for survival. It's bad enough that they claim they would ship March 8 or so, actually shipped 3/25/21 but according to UPS tracking information, plants sat at UPS facility in Ontario CA since 3/26. I'm not sure if this is the fault of UPS or the fact that Burpee shipped 3 Day Select, but a problem just the same. When you Pay $10 a plant (including shipping & tax) you would expect to receive something better than you would find in the trash at a Doller Store. I was really looking forward to getting some special plants for my garden, very disappointed

So much for destroying your own reputation by selling very faulty plants and seeds. Shame on Burpee. Try submitting a "review" of a product you purchased that did not live up to Burpee's lively description and pictures. You will be notified your review was "moderated but cannot be published". Burpee does not want other consumers to know they have gone downhill. Way downhill. So if you write an honest review of their products to help other consumers, they won't allow it. You've been warned. Stay away from Burpee. As others have posted, they are not the company they used to be. They want to charge as though they have superior products but you are way better off buying at WalMart or Home Depot.

I used to think alot of Burpee, mostly for seeds. Pricey seed but almost always germinated. I found seed just as good and much cheaper, so I had not bought their stuff in quite awhile. Bought some Organic Seed Starting Mix because I start my own vege seeds. The stuff had bug seeds in it! I made sure it was the seed starter, and no other source for bugs. I have been starting seeds for years. 3 times, I sent Burpee emails thru their "contact us" address. Well, I never heard Jack Shit back from Burpee. I guess they are too big for their britches to respond to problems with their products. I have to throw that crap out now, and I bought 2 bags that of course cost more than other seed starter. This company has gone to seed!

Poor customer service/treatment. 2022 was an unfortunate year for seed suppliers. For customer retention, it is not the circumstance that matters most; It is the firm's response to the circumstance. Burpee offered a discount for early orders in 2022. My order was accepted and my credit card was charged long before shipping occurred. Then I waited and waited for delivery. Finally, I inquired as to what happened. After my inquiry, I received a partially fulfilled order. After a second inquiry, Burpee gave me credit for the unshipped seed and the shipping cost was not prorated. By this time the gardening season was in progress, I got a late start and was left to search for seed somewhere else. I was informed by a local supplier that seed were not processed for 2022 due to labor shortages. A timely, unprompted notification from Burpee would have been appreciated and it would have gone a long way to mitigate customer dissatisfaction. I will not order seed from Burpee in the future.

Seeds & Plants. It is that time of the year again where we all get out there and turn into farmers - although on a much smaller scale. I love this place- I use their mail order catalog and just have me a ball with buying seeds and getting them going so I can have some sweet home grown veggies in the summer. No matter the type of plant you are looking for they seem to have it, or something damn close. Everything always arrives in mint condition and on time- so, if you are like me, you can have an entire crop growing on your window sills ready to go into the ground as soon as the frosts are gone. Prices are fair and I never had a bad pack of seeds form them. You could save yourself some time and shipping and just look for the seed packages in most supermarkets. I like the mail order though as the variety of tomatoes available is amazing...

In March I placed my first order for plants with Burpee because their website indicated the item was ready to ship immediately. It turns out it wasn't even close to ready to ship. Customers count on the ship times posted for garden planning and its unacceptable to be off by weeks. 10 days later my item still didn't have even a ship date scheduled and I decided to give up and hunt for the plants locally and requested a refund. Burpee refused claiming the item's status had changed and couldn't be cancelled. They told me to refuse the package. However it took Burpee another 5 days to ship this order of plants that they claimed could not possibly be cancelled. I went through the hassle of arranging the package refusal with UPS. Burpee only refunded me the cost of the plants and I'm out the money for them shipping me an item that I specifically asked them to not ship to me days before it ever shipped. This process was a huge waste of time and money for everyone and Burpee staff were unhelpful at every stage. This company only cares about large stores it sells to and does not care at all about providing individual customers with quality service.

If I could give zero stars I would. My father ordered my daughter seeds because she wanted sunflowers to grow in the garden. He was in hospital and ordered them for her since she drew him a beautiful sunflower to cheer him up. We never received them even though it says delivered. My father passed away. I contact customer service they send me tracking info for my item that didn't arrive. Email them back they do not respond. Email again 2 weeks later they respond with the receipt from my order. I question why they can't send me replacement pack of seeds they say they are out of stock and will issue refund. I already advised them the account that paid is closed as my father passed away and to send any flower seeds comparable in price. They basically say oh well contact bank. The worst customer service over 4 dollar seeds. Will never order again.

Never received my order. Emailed customer service twice and called twice to try and get an update on when it would ship. No one is ever there. Will never order from Burpee again! Will have to dispute the charge on my credit card.

Still one star. My update is that, like a reviewer before me, Burpee credited my credit card with most of my money in a weird email that looked like they had resent the stuff. Whatever. I, too am a former customer of Burpee's. Too bad. They used to be a reputable name back in the day.

Ordered cauliflower plants which were not shipped in a timely manner so I canceled them. Burpee sent 12 sickly tiny plants anyway which all died within 24 hours. Emails to customer service went unanswered. Once a decent company has become terrible, stay away, too many other choices that provide much better service

Took two months to receive my order. Emailed the company several times since you can't get through to them on the phone. Never responded. Finally received my plants. Half of them were dead. Left a review of my plants on the Burpee's website which they emailed me and took down my review saying they will not post my HONEST review. DISHONEST company. BEWARE! DO NOT ORDER FROM BURPEES!!!!

I ordered twelve cauliflower plants. When they did not ship in a reasonable timeframe I cancelled the order. Burpee than shipped me twelve cauliflower plants that arrived very weak and were all dead within 24 hours. Three attempts to contact them have gone unanswered. Once a good company has become terrible go elsewhere!

I like Burpee seed, so when the COVID crisis made it impossible for me to buy plants, I checked Burpee's web site. Sure enough, they sell plants. Some of the ones I bought were fine. One was diseased. One arrived broken. All of them were shipped over a month before they could be planted in my area. Burpee didn't answer questions. They didn't respond to complaints. They didn't answer me at all. I might buy their seeds again, but never plants. Very irresponsible, unethical business.

I've purchased Burpee seeds for years and have always been thrilled will the quality of their vegetables and herbs. Last year I started my garden too late to begin with seeds so I spent a couple hundred dollars on Bonnie plants from Lowes. I was absolutely miserable - after all the work of planting the garden, getting expensive water retaining top soil and investing my time only to end up with rows of tasteless tomatoes, peppers, radishes and herbs. I gave up and bought almost everything from the farmers market. So I thought this year I'd go back to Burpee and I can't be happier with the whole experience. This was my first time ordering plants through the internet. The ordering was simple and fast and the prices more than fair. The plants arrived larger in growth than expected and super healthy. At least I know I'm getting my money's worth. Can't wait to enjoy this year's harvest!

NOT what I was expecting! I really wanted a Jacob Cline Monarda and had a hard time finding it. Burpee had it, so I bought it. When the plant arrived I was SHOCKED that for $13.99 I got such a puny little cutting (Three stalks no higher than five inches, seven leaves total, two of which fell off -- PLUS $7.95 to ship it.) I would expect to pay $1.50 for a plant that size at the local nursery or Farmers Market. They claimed it was a year old, but I sincerely doubt it. Then they pestered me for a review. I posted a similar review to this one, and, as others here have reported, they took it down because it did not meet their community standards, which I guess means unless you lie and praise them to the skies they won't post it. I'm really disappointed in this purchase... I feel like I've been swindled. I won't be buying from them again, and I encourage others to avoid Burpee at all cost.

This is NOT our fathers' Burpee! My father always used to order from them back in the 50's. Out of the catalog and mailed in a money order. Back in the days when it was a quality company with quality products and service. Like Sears. So now in 2019 I place order from them. First, I am shocked at their shipping charges. Totally excessive and out of line with other online retailers and what it could possibly cost them to ship. Prices for seeds were double - even triple - retail prices in stores. I go ahead anyway because they had a few specific varieties I wanted and I did not have time to prowl the internet. $27 for four packets of just seeds. Seven days later I have heard nothing. I check the tracking number. They are now using some convoluted shipping system where your order gets routed through numerous UPS shipping facilities, then handed off to USPS, then routed through numerous USPS shipping facilities, routed to the local Post Office and then delivered. As of today, 12 days later, UPS shows it was handed off to a postal facility on the other side of my state 7 days ago and there is no other further information from either UPS or USPS. Burpee presumably implemented this convoluted system just to save a few pennies even though their shipping charges are outrageous. So for me, its' Bye Bye Burpee. Never again. There are just too many other online and retail sellers of quality seed with good service to deal with this nonsense. One of them is True Leaf Market in Utah that delivered my Better Boy seeds in TWO days!

Ripoff alert. I have ordered from this place about 4-5 times in the past 2 years. My last order was the last week in December. What I noticed is that they make money on shipping. My order came to $50 and they charged me $12.95 for shipping. I figured that my shipment would be here quickly via UPS. However, they just put all my seeds in a plastic envelope and a postage stamp. This is not even disclosed on their website that they make money on shipping. I emailed customer service and their reply was one of those copy and paste responses. They are so lazy, they don't even bother reading your email before responding. They look for key words, then copy and paste. They claim the price of their seeds is due to business conditions. WTF? I never asked you about the price of the seeds. The seeds costs anywhere from $3.95 to $6.95 vs. the seeds at home depot, target, and lowes that cost $1.29 to $2.99. Yes, you deserve to make money by charging more for your seeds but don't lie to my face and rip me off with shipping with such a high mark-up. This place is worst than the big banks.

Don't usually review, but Burpee deserves it. This company has been taken over by pirates. First, only about 25% of seeds sprout, never more. I bought seeds, and the very next day they ran a 2 for 1 sale and wouldn't give any discount to me. And they were nasty about it. Insulting. Next, they send endless advertising emails, and - check the web - they NEVER will unsubscribe you. You'll have to block their domain. Last, my order took over three weeks to get to me. Difficult when there is a growing season to consider, right? They had all sort of excuses, and again, rude. They could have sent it by snail mail and gotten it to me in only three days. Crazy. A terrible company stuck in the 1960s.

I will never order from Burpee again. You have no idea exactly when plants will ship. I received my perennial order over one month late. When my vegetable order did not ship at its normal time, I called to cancel because I'm going out of town and the box will likely arrive when I'm gone. I was told I couldn't cancel because it was "in processing". Online my order has been "in processing" for almost a week. Customer Service Rep told me it was fine because when the plants arrive and sit in a box for a week and die then I can take a picture of the dead plants and get my money back. What kind of business model is that? Every time I call, I'm on hold 20-30 minutes before I can speak to anyone. When I did receive my perennials, they were extremely small, leaves and stems were broken, dirt had come out of the pots. NEVER AGAIN WILL I ORDER FROM BURPEE!

Terrible plants and customer service!! I will never buy plants from them again. My family has been buying from them for 3 generations. I bought 6 overpriced tomato plants because I wanted a specific kind of tomato plant. They were scrawny, sickly looking plants when they arrived. There was very little moisture in the soil around the roots. I kept them inside to let them "plump up," but they just got a little bit taller, still scrawny plants. My husband set them out in the garden and the next day, they were dead. I contacted Burpee through email. When I didn't hear anything back from them other than the "thank you for contacting Burpee" automatic response, I called the customer service number. I was told they sent me an email requesting pictures of the dead plants. I never received an email requesting pictures. By the time I knew I needed pictures, all that was left was a little stub of plant matter and the dirt around it. The customer service rep was rude. I also bought a red gooseberry plant that is still hanging on, but is turning yellow. I'm not sure if he's going to make it. I purchased seeds that I planted the same time as the plants. Not sure if they will germinate because it's too early to tell. Bottom line is the quality of product and customer service from Burpee is HORRIBLE. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY AT THIS PLACE. There are other places to buy quality plants and seeds. We found way better tomato plants at a lower price from Walmart and Lowe's.

Terrible service. Seems like no one is in charge. Have called 4 times, sat on hold minimum of 20 minutes each time, only to reach a person each time who can't help. They literally tell me that they don't know how, or don't have access to the part of the system they need, etc. Nice, but clueless. I placed a large order in Jan 2021. In early April I realized I would not need 4 of the plant types I had ordered - 3 tomato varieties and 1 sweet pepper. After more than an hour on the phone, Carol couldn't figure out how to cancel and refund these items. She tried - she said it was not an issue to cancel/refund as the plants weren't due to ship until mid May, but she couldn't figure it out. Fast forward to two weeks later, several phone calls, one with "senior representative," never able to speak to manager (who was to call me but never did) and as of now, plants I wanted have been canceled and although the total cost of the plants canceled is more than $90, I've received a credit for $11.77 after my first call to cancel. This place is a nightmare, will never order from them again. Buy local is my new motto!

Burpee has been and still is the best seed company out there. I normally don't take the time to write reviews but after seeing what was put up on Yelp I had to write about my own real experiences over the years and how much I like this company. My entire family has been buying from Burpee for literally generations and we all have been really happy with their enormous selection and their high quality seeds and plants. Every January it's been a bit of a tradition in my family to look forward to receiving the beautifully photographed Burpee catalog and in the dark cold winter months cut out the plants photos, laying them out on the kitchen or dining room table to create the upcoming spring and summer garden designs. Now days I mostly use the Burpee website to cut and paste photos onto a computerized garden plan and email my ideas to family and friends but the catalog always stays on my sofa table as an easy reference and ordering tool and just because it's such a pleasure to look through the pages. This year our family is determined to get as healthy as possible by eating really well so I'm planning a big old fashioned victory garden and I'm ordering all of my favorite Burpee assortments of vegetable and flower seeds that I've planted many times before, a bunch of plants and a good number of newly introduced varieties. I'm also ordering a couple of Burpee's seed starter kits because last spring my brother went on and on about how well they worked for him and I sure can't have his garden looking better than mine. Thanks Burpee for making gardening so easy and fun for so many years. You really are one of the great American companies.

I ordered a boysenberry plant from them for just under 14.00. When it arrived I was shocked. It arrived in a small pot, about 3 1/2 inches square. The plant is less than 2 inches in height with what looks like the remains of dead leaves. I have doubts about its ability to thrive. There is one little leaf that by tomorrow will be dead. I checked other nurseries on line and discovered that this was extremely over priced for what I recieved. Their plants were much larger and more like what I expected. Burpee claims that the boysenberry would bear fruit next season. I don't think so. I contacted burpee and was told to send a picture which I sent twice. Each time they claimed they did not recieve it. Three phone calls and three emails later nothing was resolved. I asked for a different email address for perhaps a specific person because there was an obvious problem with them receiving the photos. I was refused. This plant was for a good friend who lost someone dear to them they have fond memories of picking these berries when they were young. Some how I don't think a half dead plant will cheer them.
