Burrito King

The burrito I got was amazing, but I started tasting what had a similar consistency to paper, and I looked inside my burrito and noticed the diced tomatoes still had the stickers on them. I’d still go back, but it’s something I’m gonna look out for in the future.

I am a huge burrito king fan but this nacho was horrible what chips weren’t soggy were stale! I love burrito king but this is bad

Good for a quick lunch or a late night snack. I had the king burrito with ground beef and it was very good, though a little overpriced for the quality. Still, a place like this is a staple for any college town. No place to eat inside.

Stopped there after 12 and would do it again great food and better customer service. The manager accommodated my dietary restrictions and suggested the deluxe chicken nachos. As you can see by the picture it was a great recommendation. They open until 3 am with a drive thru.

Cold queso, terrible guacamole, extra fatty carnitas on more than just the past few visits - don’t get me started on their dusty, extra dry limes. What a waste of money and tips. Burrito King has gone so far downhill I will not be back. Shame. Been a supportive patron for over 15 years.

Drove from Topeka to get 6 street tacos and 3 burritos. Can you tell me where do you get 1 street taco out of this order it was 6 ! Might want to pay attention to the order as it’s being placed! Don’t worry won’t be going back and do not like being asked for a tip for a drive thru also.

Check your receipts! I have always liked the food, but you can only claim incompetence so many times. There are always extra meat or another small item charged that you won't get. This time, I did not confront them at the pay window and when my two burritos came I asked if there was extra meat on both. It was obvious that they were caught. Despicable practices, long waits and overpriced food. Sad cause the place used to be great. I will never be going back and will be telling everyone I can to avoid them.

I love Mexican food. I’m always looking for a new place to try. I’m in town for a couple of weeks and I’ve been dying to try a out a New Mexican food place. Everyone recommended Burrito King. I pulled up to the drive-thru, but the menu was huge! There was no way I would be able to decide quickly enough, so I pulled over and parked so I could order from the window. After several minutes I ordered the 3 chicken tacos with guacamole and my daughter ordered the shrimp tacos with a chicken quesadilla and a Mexican coke. I got the plate, so it came with refried beans and Mexican rice. I really liked the way the chicken was seasoned. Altogether our bill was $41. I think it’s a really good deal. My meal, 3 chicken tacos, refried beans and rice was only $9.25! The meal was very good. I would have liked it if they had corn tortillas for the tacos. The service was really good! The employees were very friendly and helpful. It looks like kind of a dive, but it’s got really good food. Unfortunately they didn’t give me a fork with which to eat my rice and beans and when I went back to ask for one and some salsa, but they didn’t see me or hear me, so I left. But fortunately I keep my own reusable utensils in my car. Prices are great! Very reasonable. I would definitely go back.

Service is always fast and friendly. This place is good during the day and at 2am. Get the lengua tacos. You won't regret it!

Rude customer service food is sloppy small portions with exorbitant prices, every time I've been through the drive they always yell at you to hurry and just never enjoyed the food I've had, as well as prices are wrong and over priced 10$ for chips and queso that's not warm and stale chips, forgot my salsa as well. If you want a good burrito or fast food Mexican panchos all the way!

Tacos, tamales, rice, queso, burritos, quesadillas, and walking nachos are all fire! Definitely recommend.

I went here with a coworker who was on the KU football team while he was in college. Burrito King is just a couple blocks from the football weight rooms, so I can imagine a couple players frequent this spot! The drive through was pretty quick at 1:30 pm - we ordered 2 everything burritos, mild and hot sauce, and a couple drinks. The burritos were HUGE! Mine was easily two meals. Kind of regret getting the everything burrito - could have left out the ground beef which wasn't super flavorful. But it was pretty good with the mix of mild and orange/hot salsa. Horchata was decent but had lots of ice for a medium.

burrito king has gone severely down hill, the last 3 times ive been there they have managed to messed up my order. I ordered 2 chicken tamales and usually when they mess up my order they give me a wrong tamale like pork or beef but tonight they gave me 2 tortillas filled with cheese....

The food itself was very good. I had two tamales and they were wonderful. The only complaint I have is trying to order through that microphone that you can barely hear anything out of. I wasn't sure if they got my order correct or not. And then when I got to the window, she hand me the credit card machine hooked to some kind of arm, and I could barely read it and that made it a little difficult. The service isn't the greatest but the food is pretty good.

I don't know why other people haven't rated this 5 stars. If you are drunk, out at night, or just hungry. This is the place to be! Get their horchata! I LOVE BURRITO KING.

Best breakfast in town. Feeds 2 people it's so big. Service isn't the nicest, but maybe because they're so rushed.

Terrible customer service, asked for a sauce and was told I couldn't get it because the worker didn't feel like it, besides that the food is good for a late night meal.

So I'm weak sauce, gonna just put that on the table now. I got the heavenly queso last week, and it was the best I e had in a long time, and wasn't overly spicy. I also love their rice!

Gave me food poisoning! Place was a mess and dirty! Will never go back! Bathrooms were gross also!

If there's a reason why this legendary Lawrence restaurant closes it's because of the young girl running the store. News flash, you cant run a restaurant with your ear buds in! Not only is my food consistently made incorrectly but the kids working here act like they don't want to even take your order! Forget about getting a "order when you're ready", "thank you come again" or "here's your food" these kids essentially just throw the bag in your face and turn around. There use to be 2 older ladies who ran the show here and when they're working this is the best burrito place in town. Please please please try to encourage your young staff members to run this restaurant properly, it's sad watching a family member who doesn't care about their family business run it in to the ground.

Great tasting food. The burritos are huge! The service is great-- lots of personality. A bit pricey in comparison to other places but we like it. Fast service.

But, often people are rude that work there. I don't understand the sullenness I often have to contend with.

Great little hometown place. Family owned. Good is always good and fresh. You won't be disappointed!

Best burrito in town by far. I come here very often and I am never let down. Don't let a long line discourage you from coming, because I promise it is well worth it. And they are open until 2am making it the perfect place to go after a late shift or a night out. And they have some of the best salsa to go with your food.

I love burrito king. I've been going here a lot ever since I found out about it 4 months ago. The only problem is the stamp card the dude gave me. It had 2 stamps on it. I got up to my 7th today but they didn't honor it because it expired in 2021. I just started going in 2023 and got all those stamps in 4 months. Doesn't seem right. I'll still go but that sucked.

Repeated failures on orders We would love the Burrito King - if they could get orders right. 3 out of the last 4 times we have gone the orders were incorrect - by magnitudes. I strongly suspect that it is, in part, due to the speaker/communication system that is certainly unintelligible on the ordering end... this isn't a huge expense to upgrade, yet it's been this way (and worsening) for at least two years. Food is great - when you actually get what you ordered. UPDATE Aug 12,2023 We tried Burrito King again today. We literally have our order face-to-face and we were the ONLY customers there. Yet again the orders were wrong - as in not even close to what was ordered. We're done with them. Asleep at the wheel.

I've been a casual customer of BK for years, but recently branched out from burritos to a torta. I ordered mine with chorizo, and was really satisfied with it! The bread soaks up the juice from the chorizo really well, and there's mashed avocado, sour cream, lettuce, cheese... yum! As per BK standards, the portion was generous and the salsa was fresh and delicious. I'm unsure why this drive thru dive has such a low rating- it's the best quality, down-home kind of Lawrence standard. I'll be back soon, for another torta!

Bomb burritos! No doubt hands down one of THE best in town. Staff is always pleasant and quick. Menu is pretty robust but not intimidating. I had the works breakfast burrito which comes with all the meats. The one and only complaint I have that keeps this from a 5 star is the price. The burrito are a good size but no way should 2 burritos and a Pepsi be 20$ especially when one of the burritos was only bacon. Other than that, great place to go especially for a breakfast burrito.

I attempted the burrito challenge at Burrito King in Lawrence, Kansas. Contestants have 40 minutes to finish this burrito. If they're successful, the $26 meal is free & a T-shirt is awarded. There are several picnic tables to dine at on site. However, there is no indoor seating. Max, the owner, care to watch me attempt the challenge. I finished in just over 8 minutes. The burrito was absolutely delicious. I loved the diced potatoes in it.

It was cheap and a good quantity, but not the greatest quality. You get what you expect and for a cheap meal, it'll do.

Good place to go to get takeout Mexican food. I generally get the everything burrito and it is good. The quality of the food may not be the best but it is tastey

The food's pretty good. The services terrible. You will not get the correct food that you order. You also will be charged individually for salsas and never receive those salsas. It's almost as if they intentionally mess up the orders because they know it's not worth your time to correct it as long as you're not getting your salsas or sides or chips!

If you are someone who likes Mexican cuisine but doesn't like authentic Mexican then this isn't the place for you! Everything they pass out those 3 windows is nothing less than real. From the shell to the beans to rice to the meat. EVERYTHING is freshly made to order and never frozen. Since I've been to burrito king I've never stepped foot in a different Mexican restaurant in town or anywhere else! I've had the real deal from friends, California, Texas and Latin natives and this is just as good! Not to mention the people who work there are loyal and friendly. I usually see the girl with the turquoise hair or the short one with the lonnngggg pony and always order the spicy steak burrito #5 with Mexican style tacos. Love in every bite and it just doesn't get any better than that.

I have been three or four times and I can briefly say that this spot is below average American Mexican food. Nothing really stands out compare to Taco Bell. The cashier is very rude and lack communication skills and I find it a little overpriced for the quality of food. Overall, not much value for the $$

We came here twice this week for lunch. Our company gives us a company card to buy food so we all have a budget. We asked for separate orders both times and the girl keeps saying we're not doing separate orders right now.. ummm what does that mean? Why the heck can't you? no more for us

My boyfriend and I used to love this place; good food at a relatively cheap price. However, the last three-four times I've gone have been extremely underwhelming and disappointing. Each of those times they have forgotten items and messed up each item they included. When I went about a week ago, we ordered 4 mexican style tacos with steak, one soft taco with steak, and an order of bean dip with chips. When we got home, there were 3 mexican style steak tacos, 4 tacos (crunchy shell) and a side of beans. Tonight, we ordered deluxe nachos without sourcream, a pork tamale, and bean dip with chips. Arrived home with deluxe nachos WITH sour cream, bean dip but no chips, and a stone cold, uncooked pork tamale. When I pulled the tamale out of the bag, the foil was literally cold to the touch and the tamale itself was cold and extremely mushy (indicates it wasn't cooked properly). In addition to this, about 50% of the time when I order bean dip and loudly specify DIP, I receive a side of beans instead. And a quarter of the time when I do get the dip, they forget the chips even though I was charged the extra ~$2. I really hope they work things out because I miss the good food here but it had become extremely unreliable and I'm not sure when I'll be back. I used to go at least once a week. Amazing authentic Mexican breakfast tacos!!! Passed it on my way to work one day... there was a long line of cars in the drive-thru. I knew it would be good, but it exceeded my expectations! Highly recommended.

When I went to college at KU, this was a staple of late night food as they are open until 3am seven days a week. Now, 15 years later, I went at 9:30 pm on a Saturday! They are also open at 7am and have breakfast burritos as well.There was 10+ cars waiting in the drive through. This tells you how much everyone likes it. I got the spicy burrito with lengua topped with salsa verde. Not exactly fast when there are that many cars waiting. Not authentic either. But still yummy after all these years.

The burrito's are big and tasty,don't waste your money on the tacos. Small for what you pay for them and not very tasty. Very skimpy on ingredients. Very disappointed.

My fiancé and I make sure we always stop at Burrito King if we're ever by or in Lawrence. If you're from KC, it's like the Panchos of Lawrence. They're open 'til 3am and have delicious burritos (and other Mexican food). Our favorite item to get is the vegetarian chorizo and ask for no cheese or sour cream for our vegan ways. Sometimes we'll ask to add potato to it! The have 3 different sauces (mild, medium, and hot) and each of them are unique from another and tasty in their own ways. FYI: they have no inside seating, it's either drive thru or about 5 outside tables and benches. Another note, since it is a college town, be known that there will probably be drunk kids hanging around that joint after midnight.

Went around 1130pm and it was busy. Like wrapped all the way around the building and into the main street. The two people working in there were quick as shit though no lie. Got 3 spicy burritos and they were fresh as I watched bro cook them right there, and they were good as fuck too. Will be back thru in the future if it's the same cook

Some People might get mad or whatever I don't care . I gave this place a shot , wanted to see what the hype was all about . I ordered horchata , the everything burrito and nachos . I was upset the horchata didn't taste right , the food made me sick just my luck I guess, I went up to the window they charged the wrong order and the girl let me know "sorry he is drunk" really ? Did I hear you right ? Anywho I picked up my food and the "drunk guy " was super rude . The food was ok just wish it wouldn't have made me sick . I love food and this wasn't it for me .

This establishment doesn't state it will not take separate orders...the girl who was taking the order was rude and couldn't give a answer and just said...we aren't supposed to and try to stare someone down. What happened to the regular happy people...customers service needs work!!

This place is great!!! Always the best choice for Mexican in Lawrence. They have outdoor seating only and drive thru, so it's low-risk for COVID. Staff are always super nice, and prices are great too. But of course then best thing is the food. They're so many options, and every one is as good as the other. Def go here if you live in lawrence or are just driving by!!

Lady was rude at the window. She told us to get away even though we weren't close to the window. Even if it's busy, you shouldn't speak to customers like that.

I love burrito king don't get me wrong but it's 2 am on a Sunday and I just wanted a southwest breakfast burrito with potato instead of meat. I get there and it's cash only (understandable) so drive all the way to the bank to get cash... come back and order my burrito then get home and take a bite to discover chorizo instead of potato. Maybe if the speaker system was better quality, mistakes like this wouldn't happen. Im going to bed hungry, sad, and $9 poorer.

Great food! A Lawrence classic. Nothing like a late night burrito and some white quest from Burrito King. There's a reason that there is always a line waiting for burritos!

This place is my home away from home. You can come here from 7-3am and that's what I need in my life. Their food is the best fast food out there and my favorite Mexican food to eat out. They have a stamp card so after every so many burritos you get one free. Eat here once and your life will be changed. And as a vegetarian, their menu is excellent. I would highly recommend their breakfast tacos. 11/10 iconic.
