The Ultimate Guide to Puget Sound’s Best Cideries | Eater Seattle

"Founded by Melissa Kittrell — a former Navy nuclear machinist mate who studied cidermaking in the U.K. — this operation produces English-style farmhouse ciders that are unfiltered, full-bodied, and slightly off-dry, with playful flavors that range from taro and vanilla malt to blackberry sage and cotton candy alongside traditional apple varieties. The site is joined to Beaver Bend Farm and features a big field populated by friendly goats, alpacas, donkeys, a miniature horse, and a Scottish Highland cow (alfalfa pellets are 25 cents per handful), and taproom buildings are decorated with hand-carved art like a sprawling tree sculpture. The cidery's slogan, "Micro Cidery, Macro Cause," reflects its social-responsibility ethos: a portion of profits from select cider series supports causes such as landmine removal in Cambodia and trail maintenance in Kitsap County." - Meg van Huygen

Google
Cute little cider house with a field for kids to play in. There have animals for kids to look at and if the animals let you then they can even pet them. The bathroom is clean and in a cute little outside shed.

Great place to get together with friends, as long as the weather is nice. They have a good selection of ciders, some beer, and even some wine. The cider house has limited snacks, but a food truck showed up between 4 and 4:30 pm. Amazing burgers, fries and macaroni and cheese. They have a small farm out back with goats, llamas, a cow, donkeys, ... Plus, there are some backyard games.

The food/drinks, service and atmosphere were 10/10!!! Man o man I haven’t had such a good experience from a local spot in quite some time. My family and I (3 kiddos all under 5) stopped in pretty much as soon as they opened, on a Thursday and almost had the entire place to ourselves. We got their pulled pork sliders, (which were very good) and the six small cup cider sampler (also very good) It’s a very interesting place with a beautiful inside seating room to order your food and drinks and then if you wanna wander outside, you have a ton of space to just walk around and enjoy music (if it’s there) and the most fun part - petting all of the animals that they have on a little farm. (A cow, a horse, a pig, tons of goats, and some llamas)

Wow!!! Wish I could give more than 5 stars!! This place rocks! My new favorite go to spot!! I am not a cider drinker, but that’s okay because they have an awesome selection of beer. I did try the cider, and it’s really good as well. The bar and inside are really comfortable! The yard is huge! My dog just lived the outside. Lots of room and really nice chairs. Great place to hang out with friends and family!! The food is excellent as well. They even gave my dog a huge hot!! Who does that?? Bushel and Barrel that’s WHO!! Even better than all that the people that work there are really nice and friendly. This is a MUST GO!! Highest possible recommendation!!

Come here for great cider, fun animals, and an amazing atmosphere. This is the second time I have visited Bushel and Barrel Ciderhouse and my kids and I had a great time!

Google
Come purely for the vibes: this place is about as chill, relaxed, and welcoming as it gets. We took the floor seating in the corner and it was lovely. Someone was playing guitar while others were wearing their "best" hats for the Kentucky derby that day. Some of the ciders were pretty drinkable, others less so. As long as there is at least one good drink here, I will keep coming back. They rotate most of their cider flavors regularly so there are always new things to try. The bartender was incredibly nice. Such a lovely little country spot.

Google
3 stars for the cider and service being good. Decent variety of cider flavors. Preface this by saying I’ve been to my fair share of cider houses as cider is my preferred adult beverage. The inside of the place was cute. It’s super family friendly. There was kids watching their tablets in the floor couch area and one had a blanket and was napping, separately a kids birthday party was going on outside. As a parent, I like a family friendly place but this was giving preschool vibes and just wasn’t the experience I wanted. The cider was served in paper cups, really takes away from enjoying the flavors. The charcuterie we ordered was absolutely unacceptable for $17 (see photo), we ate some of it as we were hungry but it was all stuff from Costco and wasn’t even fresh. The outside seating with tables and chairs on gravel wasn’t my favorite, especially since my view was a port a potty. Overall, I’d come back if I really needed a pretty decent cider but couldn’t find a sitter. A few simple changes could really elevate this place and make it a different experience.

Google
Only one IPA available (but it was very good), and the only food was a lumpia place outside. The beef and chicken adobo lumpias were too greasy (cooking oil wasn’t hot enough) and had no beef, chicken or adobo that we could see (or taste). Plus we had to wait over an hour to get our order, despite there being few customers. Utterly forgettable food. But the animals were cute and the cider, beer and drinks were tasty, with good service inside. Just can’t get over the lack of decent food, though…

Yelp
I thought this was a beautiful location and cider house. They have a highland cow that was the cutest thing ever!!!! Along with llamas and goats! The host was friendly and the live music was awesome- young man playing the guitar on stage. They were supposed to have a food truck this evening but it didn't come for whatever reason. Luckily we weren't hungry, but they did have a backup menu for those who were. Now I'm not huge on cider but did give it a try. I ordered the 6 cup sampler, and I maybe like 3 and they happened to be all the fruity ones. I wouldn't drink the cider again, but I would try again to hear music, see the highland cow, and maybe try the wine/ beer they have instead.

Yelp
Super cute boho chic inside with a cute farm vibe outside. The employees were super welcoming and provided great service. The ciders were all delicious with unique flavors such as French Toast, Blackberry Sage, Vanilla Malt, and more. You can tell they are made with fresh, quality ingredients. They also had three different local beers on tap. There is feed available to buy for a quarter or $5 to go feed the goats, alpacas, and highland cows. They are all adorable and friendly. Great spot!

Yelp
As an avid cider drinker, I have nothing but positive things to say about this place. They always have fun cider's on tap, and from Jalapeno to Cotton Candy, you are sure to find something you like. They have a food truck some days that makes great burgers. I'm gluten-free, so they made mine into a salad, which was awesome. They have free pop-corn, which is my boyfriends favorite thing. You can play yard games outside or feed baby goats. They have gender neutral restrooms, are kid friendly, and have great inside and outside ambiance. The venue has live music sometimes, too. Check out the Facebook page to see what's going on. That has been helpful for us. Oh, and the service is as good as it gets. The people who work here are friendly and professional. My rating for this place is A++++.

Yelp
Off beat craft ciders and a seating area to sip and talk. Service was great. Bartender let us have tiny sampling pours of some flavors we have not seen at cider festivals before buying a couple squigglers to take home.

Yelp
Stopped in on a cold night and warmed up with games and live music. Cider is delicious and unique and we enjoyed the food truck as well. A great time with family!

Yelp
I know the term hidden gem gets used quite a bit, however Bushel and Barrel is 100% a hidden gem. Nestled in the outskirts of Poulsbo, on what I can only imagine was once a farm, Joel and Melissa have done an incredible job, of creating a welcoming space for anyone who likes cider to come and sit for a spell. Their flights are the best bet if you've never been, because there are so many interesting choices from blueberry acai to french toast to traditional apple. Ou favorite on the night we were there was the sangria cider. So yummy! There was live blues music which was a perfect compliment to the barn turned cidery. There's no food, but they did have a bbq food truck parked out front. So if you're hungry check before you go what the food situation is. They also have a huge back yard area complete with alpacas and sheep. On the night we were there the weather was not cooperating, but I can totally imagine enjoying a beautiful evening outside in the summer. Only down side to be aware of is the bathrooms are port a potties. But everything else is so wonderful I can overlook that. Worth the trip if you're looking for something different.

Yelp
Best cider I have ever had. The owners and staff make you feel like family. We love open mic, Karaoke on Sat, and trivia on Sunday. The special events are fun and there are events for all. Bring the children this is a family place. Come out and feed the animals. They have food trucks and special dinners. Friday is live music and some of the best local musicians in this area. The Valentine's dinner was first class and so good. We love this place and the people who we have grown to know as family.

Yelp
Such a fun eclectic spot! Dog friendly inside and outside and we got to go pet all of their baby farm animals! I am completely obsessed and will absolutely be going back. The bartender was absolutely lovely as well!

Yelp
Bushel and barrel cider-house throws many events throughout the year. So far I went to its Soggy Sasquatch Festival in hope of finding a cool Sasquatch wood carving to take home. When we got there, there was plenty of parking behind the location, we got to walk by some cute take petting animals that included goats donkeys and a small sweet cow. They had quarter machines that gave out feed so you could feed the animals out of your hand. When we got to the cider house they had plenty of cool unique seating inside and tables outside all throughout the property. We ordered some food and a flight of cider to try. I ordered the tamales and they were delicious and came with rice and beans. The workers were all kind and excited to be there, very helpful talking about all the flavors of cider. After that we walked the perimeter of the property which was filled with more food, a cake-pop truck, homemade things for sale, and wood carvings and carvers. We had a lot of fun watch the competition of bidders bidding on wood carvings. Though we didn't win, it was still very entertaining. I do wish for it being a Sasquatch festival that they had more Sasquatch things there. We were hoping to plop down a big wooden Sasquatch in front of the house but that's ok! An experience we would like to do again next year!

Yelp
Such a wonderful discovery! I had no idea that this cidery even existed but thanks to Steve running a Google search he came across Bushel and Barrel and I'm so very glad he found it! The cider taproom is located on the outskirts of Poulsbo north going towards the Hood Canal. It's a really cute little acreage and the taproom itself is so very relaxing. There's plenty of seating outside too when it's nice out. Ciders are very unique in flavor options but it's all natural and no artificial sweetners are added. Some very memorable ciders was the Red Licorice cider and the Cotton Candy cider. There was a hot and spicy one and dry ones as well. Quite a unique variety. They also serve food here which is a nice bonus. Steve and I split two pretzel sticks which were very good! Plenty of other food options from that menu. Outside and in the back past most of the outside seating area there are goats and alpacas you can go over to look at so that is definitely an extra plus here because I do love these farm and semirural cideries and breweries so I can go make over the animals.

Yelp
Went to the 3rd annual Soggy Sasquatch Fest. Enjoyed good cider and some amazing chili! They had animals you could pet and feed. There was a chainsaw carving auction. Was hoping for a large wooden Sasquatch... but that's ok! Maybe next year! Staff was friendly and layout of everything was very cool. I will be coming back and recommend you as well! See you next time!

Yelp
We love it here. The cider is a bit more sweet than Finn river (so we can only usually do one each), but the vibe is great and family friendly. It's awesome to have a place close to home where we can meet with friends and let the kids play.

Yelp
We had a private "paint and sip" event with Melissa. Wonderful owner, cozy space, and delicious cider/beer on tap! I can't wait to visit in the warm weather months and sit outside!!

Yelp
Great ciders! I had the lemon cider and the Poulsbo pony. Both very good. My wife went for the flight and chose the Peach, Blueberry-Açaí, Strawberry, and Pomegranate, she liked them all, but really liked the Blueberry. My daughter had the Cotton Candy and French Toast, she was a big fan of the French Toast Cider. Great food menu, and popcorn to munch on. Staff was outstanding, grounds were clean, kid friendly. Goats and alpacas to say hello to, play a little corn hole, and listen to live music. I'll be back for sure.

Yelp
What a find. Family went there last Friday and enjoyed the band and cider. We had a flight of ciders ($15) where were able to choose from their 11 different kinds and then had a 16 oz ($7). What a fun place that we'll definitely go back to when near Poulsbo.

Yelp
I had a lovely time here and enjoyed the surroundings very much. I'm not a big cider person, so I appreciated the fact that they had some great local beers on tap, specifically the stout from western red. This cider house is definitely family friendly and there's much for kids to enjoy. They even had a food truck parked out front while we were there on a Saturday. Definitely enjoyed our time here and the friendly staff too.

Yelp
Diggin the place. Simple shed with a gypsy vibe, goats, outdoor seating, cheap eats and a variety of great cider. Now open Friday through Sunday. On Fridays, they bring in different local food trucks to change boost the locals and increase food options. B&B's food is simple but I recommend the scotch eggs and pretzels with beer cheese. We frequent the place and they always have something going on whether it be highland games, karaoke, live music, etc. As for the ciders....... they rotate the lineup. I personally like the horchata, spanish rum, and landmine (spice that will put a pep in your step). For those of you that don't want cider, there are select local brews. Give the place a shot and enjoy some sun and fun.

Yelp
We found this place on our way back from Forks. Decided last minute to turn in and try it out. We don't regret it at all. First of all the ciders were amazing!! Try the Cotton Candy! I came back home with some. And they had musicians that night! Of course my husband and I being two musicians ourselves we stayed longer. The husband decided to ask to jump on stage and accompany Antoine during his set. The atmosphere is great! We loved everyone there and made new friends. Thanks again Bushel and Barrel!!

Yelp
Excellent place to enjoy cider in a welcoming atmosphere and plenty room to spread out in the patio/garden. Ciders are plentiful and they even got a few goats and alpacas outback. Pick your days and visit when sunny for best results.

Moss M.

Yelp
Wonderful laidback ambiance and delicious cider. Good selection of non alcoholic beverages as well.

Amanda S.

Yelp
Three stars for friendly staff and great atmosphere. Unfortunately, the cider was "off." Imagine drinking warm kool-aid with no sugar, that's the best way our party of three can describe the cider. It tasted flat and boring. There really was nothing that made one stand out over the other. We each tried all ciders offered, and agreed if we had to drink one the Raspberry Ginger was the better one. I really hope this place improves and look forward to giving it another try.

Yelp
Cutest ciderhouse off of the main road. Wish they were open week days but I'll settle for the weekends, for now. Community oriented, family friendly. Definitely will be returning

Yelp
I finally made it to this Cider House, I love the cider it was so good not to sweet and the atmosphere was perfect. Snowy day in Poulsbo but the temperature was perfect.

Yelp
great family friendly place to enjoy some great cider while the kids can play outside and enjoy the goats and other cool critters ! highly recommend!

Austin T.

Yelp
Best cider i've ever had. Their Landmine cider is incredible. Really cool bartender, veteran owned and operated, and the style feels like a bohemian cabin mix. Real cool, highly recommend! Sweet outdoor area too.
