Placed just off Brixton's bustling high street sits buster's, a minimalist, slick looking burger bar. I really like the design of the bar style seating along the full length glass panes looking out into Brixton.
I went on a wednesday at 6pm and was the only one in the bar while I ordered and was waiting for my food, so given it was quiet, it was a shame that the table area was a bit dirty. The man who served me was very nice, and my food was prepared fresh, and taking just over 5 minutes for me to get my food. The music playing created a nice atmosphere, and a Lord Huron song played during my wait, which was a nice touch as Lord Huron were playing at the o2 Academy that night, and when I passed at 11pm (from leaving the concert) more Lord Huron was playing, but I would say the music was a bit loud when I was waiting inside.
I had my food to takeaway, and the greaseproof paper used to wrap the burger was really good quality. I had a bacon cheeseburger, french fries, and a can of tango, which cost £18, which felt a bit expensive. The bun was a bit too soft, but that's the nature of brioche buns, the meat tasted nice but was a bit tough, but definitely not overcooked, so might be down to the cut of beef used. The bacon and cheese were nice, but the highlight was the green peppercorn dijonnaise on the burger base, it was delicious, adding a really nice umami and peppery flavour to the burger. The fries were a good portion, excellently seasoned and really crispy. I will caveat my review by saying that halfway through my meal I was rushed to finish it, as I wasn't allowed to eat in the queue of the gig I went to, so the detail on some things won't be as embellished as I'd like.
Overall a tasty burger and fries, a major improvement of most fast food beef burgers, with my rating of 3/5 probably being a bit harsh, if I could I'd give 3.5/5, but quite expensive for what it is. If you're looking for a quick burger in Brixton and have money to spare, I'd go to buster's, but if you want to treat yourself to a nice burger (given the higher price point) I'd go to Black Bear.
