21 Terrific Restaurants in Tacoma

"Brought to you by the crew behind Belltown’s Screwdriver Bar, this swingin’ restobar’s theme is “garage rock bands from Tacoma.” Weirdly specific, but sure! With a couple obscure exceptions, this pretty much means the Sonics, the Ventures, and the Fabulous Wailers, all on Tacoma-based Etiquette Records. (“Busy Body!” is a Sonics song, for what it’s worth.) Anyway, the result came out stunning, with a custom illuminated jukebox-like bar surrounded by LPs, velvet paintings, and band memorabilia." - Meg van Huygen, Sue Kidd

This establishment gave me the worst birthday ever! I just turned 21 and chose to bar hop to find my vibe of what I liked this place instantly caught my attention with the beauty but boy was I wrong about it .. I went July 11th around 10:00pm and whoever was bartending was very rude I’m a young black girl who has never been to a bar before but miss black hair insisted that she won’t serve me because I haven’t tipped her all night mind you I’ve only had 3 drinks from there and they were bought by some of the customers who found out it was my birthday she said because they didn’t tip she wouldn’t serve me so I insisted to take care of the tips and write them in because I’m a server as well and understand her point of view she became so snobby and refused to let me tip her even thought I was trying to calm the situation down and then mocked and laughed at me with her friends and said “your with people who go to bars so you should know to tip” I reminded her I have and none of the people I was with ever been to a bar and she said “well you should know about bars” I walked away.. she was very rude I wish I knew her name maybe I’ll stop by sometime to get it because she TRULY ruined my birthday and should be FIRED I do not think anyone should go this establishment I felt discriminated against and shamed publicly because yes ofc there were people around! Drinks were nice at first tho (it’s not a real good photo because I was just taking photos of my drinks but I just seen she was kinda in them unintentionally…)

Google
Great food and a creative beverage menu make this place a spot you want to check out. Made it in with a friend who had been in a few times before and brought me to enjoy one of her favorites. The food was tasty and came out quickly. The drinks were not only delicious but eye-appealing as well. I had the purple drink which hit the spot on a warmer day. Vibrant fun decor will keep your eyes gazing while you sip and savor your tasty treats. Clean and welcoming with a friendly and helpful staff.

Google
Great food and rotating cocktail menu! The creative decorations set the tone for what you can expect here. This place is unforgettable!

Google
Love the vibes and the food is pretty decent with great happy hour. However, your bar staff is consistently rude. I will now avoid the place when two of them are working. They lack any redeeming qualities, are completely apathetic towards service and rude to the patrons for no reason other than they must hate their job. I was in most recently on Friday night the 11th and left with yet another poor experience.

Google
Recently visited Busy Body bar and enjoyed the nice environment with pleasant music and a friendly bartender. While the cocktails were good but nothing special, the menu looks promising for my next visit. I appreciate that they are open every day until late, making it a convenient spot to unwind or socialize.

Google
Fantastic Christmas atmosphere. Straight out of a holiday movie. The cocktails may have been a bit expensive but OMG soooo good. The Naughty Shot was delicious. The food was alright. Really liked the lumpia but the fries where a little odd. Not bad, just a little different. Hope to make it back before Christmas!

Google
Food was decent in that it reminded you of a home made burger joint. Two people getting burgers and splitting fries for 30 bucks isn't the cheapest, but the atmosphere and people running the counter were nice. Can't say I'd find a reason to come back, but I live the use of tamarind in the food.

Google
Had two espresso martinis with no alcohol in them. Great waste of $40. And when I asked the bartender about the recipe he looked at me like I was an idiot. He was also super rude to the young girls in front of us. As someone who recently moved back to Tacoma and works in the industry I’ve been excited to check this bar out, but what a bummer. Nothing busy about it at 11 on a Saturday either 👍🏼🙄

Yelp
Another great cocktail bar along 6th Avenue in Tacoma! Busy Body was another such place we wanted to mark off on our list and I'm so very glad we did! I got the cocktail The Big Xill which was really good! The tequila and midori influenced cocktail was so very refreshing and a great drink to unwind to! Busy Body also serves food and it is very good as well! I got the Kahlua Pork Sandwich along with macaroni salad. A very good and manageable meal. The portions weren't too big and we're just right. The ingredients tasted fresh and vibrant so definitely a "green light " there as well. We got dessert here also, two warm chocolate chip cookies with vanilla ice cream. That was really a great finish to the meal! The atmosphere is really quirky and fun. There are a lot of Japanese lanterns on the top of the ceiling and a vibrant, spotted (of the leopard sort) columns to give this place a super fun and quirky atmosphere. I am glad Busy Body opened up I'm this space and to display it's charms.

Yelp
Seemed like a fun place with lots of patrons but the service was pretty terrible. Friends and I were sitting at the bar for 20 minutes before a bartender finally acknowledged us. Just to see how long it would take, none of us said anything to disrupt their flow. The bartenders definitely saw us take over the empty bar seats and they made eye contact several times but just continued to only serve the patrons that came in and stood in the line at the center of the bar. Would have wanted to stay longer and try the food but the horrible service was such a turn off I got a simple drink and left.

Yelp
Absolutely the cutest bar! Stopped in here on a whim during happy hour and I was immediately happy with the good vibes. There was already a line just a few minutes after doors opened. The decor was amazing. Concert posters, screen prints, a jukebox-shaped arch over the bar, lanterns hanging from the ceiling, a disco ball, bright colors, neon. Everything you could ever hope for! It fit right into the trendy feel of 6th Ave. Drinks were reasonably priced and beer was good. The elote dip was fun! It was served cold and a bit discounted during happy hour. I don't live in Tacoma but I would absolutely be a regular here if I did and have been singing their praises to anyone who will listen since I left.

Yelp
Cute little bar! First time I went in was during the holidays & it looked like a crazy tinsel town, super festive. Stopped by recently for some drinks and snacks and was super satisfied. My dirty martini was delicious & so was the popcorn chicken. They have good happy hour specials and our bartender was a friendly dude. I will be back.

Yelp
Came here last night and was so impressed! The drinks were ridiculously tasty and unique. The bartenders here did such a great job and were very friendly and knowledgeable. I loved the bahn mi and the busy burger. They have their food and drinks absolutely dialed in. Bummer we're moving soon, otherwise, we'd certainly be back!!

Yelp
Popped in for Happy Hour with another couple.Bar opens at 4,so quiet.Took advantage of $3 Douglas Lager, bottle only.Went off the Happy Hour menu to try the lumpia.Very tasty with the sweet chilli sauce.Nice cheesecake. For music gurus of the PNW or just Tacoma, plenty of memorabilia on the walls and the bar.Cool local bar with a lot of local competition.Just one employee working the bar,so that's where you order. But the bartender came out and bussed and asked how things were.Busier nights they have more staff...

Yelp
Almost a year later to the date, we revisited Busy Body for the Miracle Christmas bar pop-up. Just like last year, it was sooo fun and you can't help but be in a great mood when you're here! The decor was very similar to last year. There definitely was new additions, but it was pretty identical to the setup from 2023. If you've never been to a Christmas pop up bar, this is a fantastic option. Holiday cheer threw up all over this bar and even if you're a Grinch, I guarantee you'll love being here enjoying a few holiday cocktails. This year I went with the Jingle Nog and it was really good! If you're a fan of eggnog, you'll love this cocktail. It was a little on the small side and served in a small holiday cup, but it was really good. I was actually surprised that it was served slushy style, because for some reason I thought it would be warm! It was still good regardless. My fiance also enjoyed his drink and his was served with a cute little Christmas koala hugging his straw - we got to take it home and we have it hugging our Christmas tree now! Fun little keepsake. Really fun way to kick off the night on 6th Ave while the pop up is still around. Definitely suggest trying to get there before 9pm, because that's when the bar really gets slammed and it's a longer wait (for weekends, that is). We showed up at 8:30ish and we were able to get a seat right away but it quickly filled up.

Yelp
I love all the Christmas decor........the fun Christmas inspired drinks.........the adorable cups........& YOU MUST try the Pork Eggrolls, super crispy wrapped with tender juicy pork on the inside!!!!! The popcorn chicken was the perfect bite size piece of fried chicken. Again crispy flavorful batter and tender chicken on the inside!!!! Place your order at the bar! Service was friendly and helpful!

Yelp
We are loving Busy Body! I love that they're open late, AND serve food late. They have delicious cocktails and lovely bartenders and waitresses. Love their egg rolls, and we need to head back to try more of their menu. These photos are from their holiday pop up, Miracle on 6th Ave. They are decked out and offering some amazing cocktails and super cute drink-ware. Music has been on point for us also, on the nights we've visited.

Yelp
Food, service, and ambience are always top-notch. I love the holiday decorations-- they really go all out! This is probably as close as it gets for a Christmas or Halloween bar in Tacoma. The 21+ makes it our go-to date night spot without kids. When ube is in season, their ube drinks or menu items are a must-try. We have been for brunch once and loved it! I hope Busy Body stays and becomes a Tacoma staple!

Yelp
Very welcoming and chill place to hang out. Service is great and food was delicious.Busy burger, cauliflower wings and pork lumpia are my go too.

Yelp
It. Was. Freezing. Out. Not even, really. So we went out to eat. Started with a Witch and two Hustlers to warm us up. We ordered some family tama fries and garlic rice for sides as well as a lumpia burger, a musang dog, and some wangzzz for eats. The bartenders were super friendly and accommodating. They brought out menus immediately in case we didn't want to QR them. Ordering was easy and drinks were provided almost immediately. The hustler was great - smoky mezcal with some scotch, ginger, lemon, and spiced honey. We love mezcal's smokiness in drinks! The witch has a very amaro-like flavor and was very good. Food came out FAST. The garlic rice was awesome - one of favorite sides of any culture. The fries were great and the banana ketchup was something I hadn't eaten since my freshman college roommate made it. All of the main dishes were excellent, but the lumpia burger was my fave. The wangzzz were crispy and the adobo was very good and super, super tender. The dog, built around an Uli's sausage, was super flavorful. Now, the lumpia burger. That was something special. So good. The table was cleared promptly and new drinks ordered by our friendly bar staff. Busy Body is a fun Saturday night out with great food from Musangtino's. Stop in. Have some drinks and great Filipino food.

Yelp
Fun, retro themed bar with amazing food and drinks. Their menu is very reasonably priced compared to other food places in the area. The staff was very nice and friendly. We got greeted right after coming in the place of business. You can scan the QR codes on the table or get a paper menu in order to order your food at the counter. Food came out fast and was made with care.

Yelp
We had so much fun going to the holiday pop up! The wait was long and it's crowded inside without much space to wait, but that's expected during an event like this I think. The menu was so cute with themed drinks and names. We had the cocaine & rhinestones mocktail in two of their holiday cups - super cute, and the drinks were 10/10. We sat at the bar and got a front row seat to watching the other drinks being made, which was honestly really fun. The menu had loads of veggie/vegan options, which we really appreciated! The veggie spring rolls were super tasty, and so were both the veggie burger and the meat burger. The wait for food/drink wasn't bad at all considering how packed it was! And they had an item on the menu called "cookies for the crew" where you could buy a round of drinks for the kitchen to thank them for their hard work! I've never seen that before and thought it was a nice touch. The decorations were obviously amazing, super kitschy and just really fun.

Yelp
Solid bar on 6th Ave in Tacoma! Ambiance: Currently they're hosting the Miracle Pop-Up for Christmas so everything is supremely festive. I saw a lot of ugly xmas sweaters and santa hats. Service: Attentive, casual/friendly, and quick. Drinks are tasty and currently come in these amazing mugs (available for purchase!). Food is hybrid Filipino-American. Not too shabby! I enjoyed my lumpia burger though I do miss the egg roll crust. Burger patty was made out of lumpia pork meat. All in all, a great addition to Tacoma bar scene. I'll be back once the pop-up is over to try their regular digs.
google avatar

Kristi N.

Yelp
We tried the happy hour fried cauliflower, and the burger with fries and it was honestly some of the best food I've had in Tacoma in a long time! Drinks are on point this place is amazing. I love the Halloween decorations! I think I'm gonna have to come back every week, I'm addicted! Our bartender Megan was super friendly and attentive!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to Busy Body a few times, but this time around, I checked out their Christmas festive themed bar and it was very decked out. Even their drink menu and cups were holiday themed. Drinks were really creative and kinda strong. I got the naughty shot which has hibiscus and habanero. It woke me up for sure. I also got to try their food items for the first time. I got the fries and lumpia. The fries were a bit soggy but the lumpia was crispy and the filling had a nice texture and tasted good. I do have to say that it was a bit on the pricey side for lumpias. But definitely worth trying if you haven't.

Yelp
Excellent chicken wings. Honestly my favorite chicken wings I've ever had. And maybe three best fries in town. Seriously.

Yelp
What a great addition to 6th! A perfectly curated bar and restaurant with a rock and roll edge. Bar seating, booth seating and tall tops, a great menu from the folks at Musang and delicious cocktails on tap to boot. They have 2 gender neutral bathrooms, Beyond burgers, uli's sausage, lumpia and a prolific non alcoholic menu as well. There is truly something for everyone. My fav cocktail is the zig zag (mezcal) but I also loved the frozen slushy situation - it was rum. Lastly - the service was fantastic - friendly, knowledgeable and unpretentious. Again, what a great addition to the neighborhood. I'm looking forward to the DJ nights - it looks like they're weekly.

Yelp
Service was great and friendly . I ordered the bomb burger and fries on their happy hour menu . French fries were very sour I think it was seasoned with tamarind powder . The burger was ok . We were thinking thinking about ordering cocktails till we seen the prices . (Over priced) The place was really festive with Christmas decorations.

Yelp
We really wanted to love you. Why wouldn't you let us love you?! The good: The place looks great - love the 60's vibe and lighting. Menu is pretty (maybe laminate those since they can't be cheap to print). Halloween drinks menu is adorbs - nice job on that. The not great: Food item options are limited and it seems like this is aiming more at being a bar than a restaurant. Glad to see a vegetarian burger option. Burgers heavily (so heavily, think dripping between fingers) sauced. Fries are a one-trick pony and lose their charm after a few bites. Would've preferred a plain fries option. The bad: Music was so loud and so bad that we didn't even finish our drinks. The vibe doesn't come together - 60's decor, bar food menu with a Filipino twist, and then whatever butt-rock music ear banged us right outta there. Place wasn't busy on a Friday evening, when everywhere else on 6th Ave was packed. The people who were coming in were mostly of a certain age. Hey BusyBody, here are my suggestions: 1. Music that fits the 60's-70's vibe. And maybe calm down on that volume. 2. If you're sticking with just bar food, add a plain fries option. Tots maybe? Or add a rotating 60's-style special. Everybody loves a casserole, right? RIGHT? 3. Consider table ordering if you really do want it to be a restaurant. If it's a bar, market it as a bar. 4.Something's wrong when you are pretty empty on a Friday evening. Add lights around entry door jamb since that door kinda comes out of nowhere (I always thought that with El Borracho, too). And get a sandwich board or something to add to the sidewalk, with a few drink specials. Bring in the hipsters for draaanks.

Yelp
I love this bar! Such a vibe! The decoration is on point I love the ambiance. I've only been on Friday nights for drinks but everything on their menu looks amazing and ik the cook in the back so I know it's not goin disappoint. And the bartenders are always so friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend checking this spot out.

Yelp
5 bars next to eachother and this is the only place I would consider MUST SEE MUST EXPERIENCE wow just wow. The only downside is no sports or tvs, but somehow, somehow! They managed to make one of the coolest bars ever. Food is Amazing, and bar staff top notch! Visited December 2nd 2024 in the late hours. This is a perfect date spot. Beyond highly recommended, more like, MUST EXPERIENCE!!

Yelp
We came here for the Christmas pop up bar. The interior was decorated and cute but the drinks were definitely expensive at $20 a drink. I'm not sure how much the drinks normally cost. We each had a burger, they were ok but definitely pretty saucy and a little on the soggy side. I did like the flavors of my burger which was a take on lumpia.
google avatar

Megan O.

Yelp
Busy Body opened up within the last year on 6th Ave and we wanted to give them a try. If you are looking for a fun festive place to celebrate the holidays they have gone all out on the Christmas decorations! The vibe was fun and lively and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. They are serving a holiday inspired cocktail menu right now and we tried the Snowball Old Fashioned and they were delicious. The ice was a snowball and the Old Fashion was flavored with gingerbread spice. Super yummy and a new twist on a classic.

Yelp
Yo this Mel Burger is CRAZY my dudes. Up there with some of the best I've had. WOW. I know you are waiting for me to get into the service/ambiance/what not but I just REALLY want to drive home this burger. Incredible. Cute booth seating for date night. High tops if your cruising with a crew. You know how we do. Have I mentioned the burger?! Seriously, stop what you are doing and try the burger. You are still sitting there. Get up. Do it. Eat this burger!!!!! And don't forget the music to bop your head while the burger is bee-boppin' your tastes buds. Great playlist. Have you left yet? No? Because Simon didn't say so yet? Well Simon says GO! GO NOW. EAT DA BURGA!!

Yelp
We ate here a few weeks ago. It is a cocktail bar with a smal l The atmosphere is cool and has a variety of seating-booths, tables, high tables, etc... It has a small Filipino style food menu. The cocktails are from a tap, which I have never had before. I ordered the Lumpia burger, and my husband had the Lumpiang Shanghai, which was more of an appetizer side. Both were good, and we loved the Tama fries. Service was good, although you do order at the bar. Not a big food or drink menu, but it was an enjoyable meal, and we will be back.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
CALLED IT! a year ago i only gave 2 stars for the folks behind the food (Musang) that saw the opportunity for the hype. Now Busy Body got rid of that menu and their partner beer with E9. As the financier/owner says, Tacoma is "rough" and "blue collar" (his words per The Stranger); unlike his Nashville bar. Tell Morgan Whalen hi for Tacoma.
google avatar

Maria B.

Yelp
There is a good amount of buzz about this place. As such, I expected much more in the way of, well, everything. The food is not good: I was with a party of eight. Everyone had something different (or a different combination) from the menu. Everyone complained. I had lumpia and adobo rice. Never again. The drinks: I had a Wildcat (frozen drink). It was complex and delicious. Everyone mentioned how good their cocktails were. My advice: Go for drinks. The end.

Kim L.

Yelp
The atmosphere was a 10. Such a fun and festive bar with delicious festive drinks. Unfortunately we didn't try the food. The only downside was the woman seating us. She told us we needed to stand out in the cold until our entire party arrived. She kept repeating, "that's our policy." She was the most unwelcoming host I've ever come across. We almost left because of her rudeness. The rest of the staff and our waiter were amazing. It's unfortunate that this woman was our first impression.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this new joint in Tacoma not too long ago and im already obsessed! They feature a small but killer Filipino-American fusion menu, (don't miss the Spaghetti Mang.. it's a must-try) and the cocktails? They're amazing.. try the Wildcat it has Ube! The Negroni? Best I've had, no doubt. Some days they've got a DJ spinning records, and you can even bring your own to be featured. The vibe is cool, and the staff is super friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
so we came here for the christmas pop up but they had the busy body food menu and it was so amazing. they have filipino inspired dishes: lumpia burger and tamarind fries were ones that i tried. the burger was SO juicy and flavorful.. i just wish it was on a harder style bun like a ciabatta to hold up to the juice it got a little mushy. but it was still delicious. the ambiance was great the servers were friendly and helpful with the menu. would highly recommend coming here - christmas pop up or not!
google avatar

Jas Q.

Yelp
This place has potential, but it did not during its holiday event and it doesn't now. The fries are overly salty and the burgers lack some flavor. Drinks are overpriced for the taste. We also got charged automatic gratuity even though everyone paid in separate groups? Wonder how they picked who paid that since they didn't ask us once how we wanted to do that? We were told 5 minute waits multiple times, which ended in a 30 minute wait to get in. The decor was nice during Christmas time but that was truly it.

T P.

Yelp
Stopped in to visit Ezra and try the food. Happy we did. Great flavors that will bring you back. Try it all! We see what all the excitement concerning Musang in Seattle is about. We'll be back.

Yelp
I love busy body! The atmosphere is fun and inviting. Everyone there is super nice and service is always great. The decorations and aesthetic are super cute! Food is delicious as well. Every first Friday of the month they host an event with a DJ called DJQJ and Friends. Multiple DJs spinning on one night. Great music is played, and the vibe DJQJ brings is so fun! Busy Body also serves food late I believe till 12am or maybe 1am i can't remember but i love that because most places stop serving at 10 or even earlier. Love this new spot on the Ave

George

Yelp
Pretentious service. Would be cool if the bartenders recognized the other 12 people at the bar. The space also has a weird vibe. Food is mediocre at best when executed well. Felt like executing myself after eating the fried garbage.

M N.

Yelp
I was excited to try this place hearing it was Filipino food by musangtinos. Unfortunately the menu is limited and very Americanized and overpriced. Didn't feel authentic and my sister and I were disappointed. The Kuya Jeff burger was great but, $16 for just a small burger, no sides? Lumpia was $11 but it was real basic and real salty. I got the "spaghetti mang" which is just the meat sauce part of their traditional spaghetti dish but served over fries. The name is confusing. Overall, the place is cute and aesthetics are nice but drinks and food overpriced for what it is.
google avatar

Catherine S.

Yelp
Fun!! Food was great. Drinks were awesome. Everything is very well thought out and filled with interesting flavors!!
google avatar

Jeremy M.

Yelp
Dave was an excellent bartender and his accent is as mysterious as his knowledge of spirits is expansive. I love the color of the space. Get rid of this trend of safe muted tones and white interiors. Turn up the volume always.

Zach H.

Yelp
Love the Christmas decorations. The service was amazing. The Burger was solid. I may be spoiled but it would be nice if they had regular ketchup and banana ketchup. Recommend you check it out
