The Best Date-Night Restaurants in Austin

"The golf option with the best food is, without question, Butler Pitch & Putt. The outdoor mini golf course has a clubhouse menu from chef Michael Fojtasek of James Beard Award finalist Olamaie, which is part of the same hospitality group. There are sandwiches on Fojtasek’s famous biscuits, plus beer, wine, and sodas in the clubhouse, and an on-site food truck, Gimme Burger, with burgers, fried okra, and more. On Fridays and Saturdays, the course stays open until 10 p.m. for Glow Golf with glow-in-the-dark balls." - Erin Russell

"Butler Park Pitch and Putt When the only serious requirement for play is that golfers have a putter and at least one other club, you know a course is more about fun than rules. Butler Park Pitch and Putt has been a pleasant destination since it opened in 1949, giving Austin a chance for a walk under the shade of pecan trees and some low-key exercise. Much is made of famous golfers who've spent time on the nine-hole course, like Ben Crenshaw (who played when he was an undergrad at UT), but you'll find the challenge of play is within your reach. And your kid's."

Butler Park Golf Course Adds Clubhouse Restaurant From Olamaie Chef - Eater Austin

Great place to enjoy being outdoors in the city and play a bit of golf. Bring your own clubs or rental them on site. No balls, no problem, they have them too. Just go and enjoy this gem.

Google
We came here around 10am on a Saturday and there was a 2 hour wait. There’s lots to do while you wait like practice your chipping, putting, corn hole, or grabbing food at the food truck! You can’t beat the price and it’s nice that you can rent the 2 clubs you need and balls are cheap. I took a star off because of the inefficiencies which caused us to actually walk off halfway through. Groups range from 2 to 6 people. At every hole, we were waiting for 3 groups to finish so around ~20 minutes. Nothing kills your vibe more than finishing a hole and then standing around. When it’s your turn, there’s the added pressure of multiple groups behind you waiting for you to finish. This is something I would try again on a weekday. You will never catch me here on a weekend again lol I also HAVE to mention the fries at the fry truck. They were insane - must try.

Google
A great place for a small work outing with an awesome food truck on site. Staff was courteous and helpful. Greens are really slow but well kept.

Google
The customer service at this place leaves much to be desired, so it's best not to expect too much in that regard. However, once you get past the service, you're in for a fantastic experience! The atmosphere is incredibly cool, and the beer cart lady, in particular, stands out for her friendliness and helpfulness. Overall, it was such a fun time, making it a spot that you absolutely have to visit. I enjoyed it so much that I’m definitely planning on going again!

Google
Such a great spot to spend an afternoon. They have club rentals and an option to purchase balls as well. At this time the clubs were $2/person and balls were $1/ball. You can also bring your own clubs/balls. We were allowed to bring our baby and the stroller as well.

Always a great time in the heart of Austin. Beautiful views and great price. Friendly staff and visitors.

Doesn’t get any better than this GEM in downtown Austin. Killer vibe, cool people and a very well maintained course.

Didn't get to play (super crowded) but looked like a fun place. We had a burger and a beer.

Yelp
Butler Pitch & Putt is an iconic Austin establishment in my eyes. Although I was not there to play golf today, they made for an amazing host for the Champs Run Club event. The area is nestled in the heart of downtown Austin right by Lady Bird Lake. The run event was set up right by the clubhouse. They were very accommodating hosts allowing the tents to be set up for the DJ, demo shoes and other vendors in attendance including Champs and StretchLab. We were able to utilize the green for our pre race stretching and the race start and stop line was on the course. They provided water and sandwiches in the clubhouse after the run. The employees are very kind and accommodating and charged my phone for me when my battery level was low so that I could have enough power to track my run on Strava. When an unexpected storm came in during the event, they made sure everyone had cover under the awning and in the clubhouse. Overall amazing location to host the running event and can't wait to come back to play golf soon.

Yelp
It was a lot of fun to golf this par 3. Greens very close so no driver is needed. A couple clubs needed and a golf ball. You que your golf ball in a slot and wait till your turn. It was a 45 minute wait for us which we were told was not bad for a Friday morning. A 4 star is because no staff member was overseeing the ball slot and so people we were waiting needlessly to take their turn. Eventually, the people next after the absent people just teed off. It was all good in the end. Major backups at home 5(20 minutes) and a few balls came our way. Thankfully, the net and a tree blocked the ball. It was relaxing and fun. The Gimme burger food truck is on site. Beer and beverages are available for purchase. Complimentary cold water and cup also available. A great place to learn and practice. No tee times allowed and check the calendar to make sure they are open. They close for leagues and special events. We will be back.

Yelp
Great fun 9 holes, small short course' Warm weather, great times , a few cold ones, what is better! Great for family fun! Friendly staff

Yelp
Parking can be difficult, Saturday morning will be very busy, but OVERALL best experience. Right in the center of Austin, such a great vibe and it's a very unique PAR 3 course. Anybody $13, Veterans can play for $9, you can rent clubs. Best to practice with your own clubs if you have them (putter and a wedge) I went alone for the first time and it took me about 40 min, but if you go with a group about a quick 1.5-2 hours. First come first serve which is great! Lots of beer selection and bring in your own water. Any level is welcome, nobody will make fun of you, we just here to enjoy golfing with friends!

Yelp
I didn't plan to play, just wanted to tag along with my husband but I'm glad he made me play with him because I had so much fun! My husband had been wanting to come back here for quite sometime now - Butler was his favorite par-3 course in his prime (lol). Butler's vibe is a laid back short golf course (I would say this place is even okay for people like me; I officially graduated from the mini golf course but not quite qualified to play at a legit golf course yet...). It's a nine hole par-3 course but I must say it was quite intimidating at first since all I saw were guys. However, there were more ladies later on in the day and the more I played and had so much fun I forgot about everything else. We got there at 8:30AM on Saturday but since the greens had frost on them, we had to wait till 8:45AM before they allowed the first party to proceed. I really liked the course including each holes gradual difficulty level; and the fact that it's surrounded by nature (had we been here in spring or summer when trees had all their leaves it would have been even better). It's in the middle of downtown chaos (you see sky high buildings in one direction and downtown traffic, or trains in another) so it has this Central Park appeal to it. They have a club house where you check in/pay for the service and they also sell breakfast (from Little Ola's Biscuits), beverages, snacks, and merch. The unisex bathrooms are right up front where you enter (you will need a code from the club house to use it and the bathrooms are clean and have heaters which is a major plus on a cold January morning). All in all, I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to have fun whether an amateur (like me) or avid golfers it is just a plain great time!

Yelp
This place is my new Adult playground. Awesome spot for wedge/putting practice. Interesting system for tee times, gotta be present to play. Very cool vibe at the property with amazing downtown skyline views. Combined with a very chill and relaxed atmosphere at the tee box and waiting areas. Onsite staff the day I played were fantastic and super-helpful. Very much recommend this place for your short game enjoyment!!

Julia R.

Yelp
The staff is actually the rudest people I've met in Austin, would not want to give my business to them.

Steve W.

Yelp
Not your ordinary pitch and putt golf course. So much better than that. An experience one has to try at least once. I can't wait to go back there again and again!!
google avatar

Francis C.

Yelp
This is such a hidden little spot in downtown Austin. The view of the skyline is absolutely gorgeous! We started with food and Gimme Burger was absolutely delicious! I loved my cheeseburger with Gimme sauce and crispy fries. We went during the day on Tuesday so there weren't a lot of people which was really nice. They had a wide selection of beers to chose from and an office dog that was too cute! The only reason I give it 4/5 stars is because there was a horrible smell throughout the course. We couldn't figure out what it was but it was AWFUL! I overall had a fun time and will come back again! (Please just fix the smell)

Yelp
As someone who plays golf at a regular course a few times a month, I was on the fence between a 4 and a 5, but going with a 5. Such a great vibe the minute you step on the property. Got a good truck at the entrance with delicious fries, corn hole, oversized connect 4 and tons of out doors seating to have a beer and watch people tee off or finish up, or watch golf on one of their big screen TVs. The kids in the shop were super friendly and accommodating with the golf clubs we requested. Place is super affordable, just a couple bucks for balls and a couple club rentals. 15 for the 9 holes. For an average golfer you really can get away with a sand wedge and a putter, maybe a lob of you happen to have your clubs with you but definitely don't pack any for this spot since all holes are less than 100 yards. The beers and clothing in the shop were decently priced as well, and they had a good selection. Now the not so good.. they don't take tee times and the wait time to tee off can be a little long, so be prepared to hang and have a drink outside before your round. Also, the greens are incredibly slow, but for people who don't really play I suppose that could be preferred. They had groups of 5 out there, so if I recommend going with a few people so you're not waiting so long after each hole. I really do recommend checking this place out with friends or even on a double date, even if you're not a great golfer. It's very beginner friendly and if the weather is nice, it's an awesome place to go have a couple beers, hit some balls, and enjoy the sun.

Yelp
I want to start by saying what I great place! This was my 2nd time here. The pitch & putt sits on a whole block in downtown Austin. It has incredible views on each hole. This is a Par 3 course, the hole yardage ranges from 60-115 yards. Perfect place to work on your short game but just keep your head up the holes are pretty close together. Butler is good for all skill levels. My favorite hole is the 9th hole I believe. It feeling like your hitting from the sidewalk. Parking is kinda tough here, they only have a few spots up front(free) Otherwise it's street parking and you have to pay for that. I do believe they have parking garages near by it's probably a few blocks away. You can bring your own clubs or you can rent from the course. I think it was $15 for greens fee and clubs rental. They serve food & drinks. I'll be coming back every time I'm in Austin!

Yelp
No reason why we can't make a reservation for a time slot to enjoy the space. The excuse from the front desk was that people would just not show up for the reservation. If you would just charge when booking the reservation, LIKE EVERY OTHER GOLF COURSE DOES, you wouldn't have to deal with people not showing up and would actually get people who want to come and play. When I went into the front office and asked about the course being closed this morning the response was, "we let you know on our social media we had a private event." They posted on the IG story one hour before the event started that the course was closed. I am coming from out of town to come and play the course with my family, who live in Austin, and very disappointed in the new ownership and their business practices. This used to be a legendary gathering place for us and other friends of ours and am extremely frustrated with the lack of solutions and attitude I received from the staff. I would appreciate a response from the owners to help restore my faith in this once loved location. Thank you.

Yelp
Love this place to bits. Weather you pop in for a quick round or decide to join one of their leagues (yay ladies league!) you're going to have fun no matter what skill level. They have a solid canned beer and beverage selection and I believe they have a few snack and food options available inside the clubhouse along with the burger truck located outside. I've been in on a Sunday morning and had a cup of coffee and a biscuit sandwich will waiting for my turn, best way to spend a weekend morning. Staff is always really nice and helpful. You can rent some clubs or purchase a few golf balls. The only complaint I have is that I wish they would bring back the Gatorade in a can, other than that the folks here a doing a good job
google avatar

Elsa L.

Yelp
If you are looking for a fun and unique golf experience, consider going to Butler Pitch and Putt! Our group was a mix of beginner and regular golfers and we all had an amazing time!
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
New ownership and a 1M$ renovation (still not wrapping my head around this one, but that's what they tell me), but still the same great hidden gem it always was. Biggest change is that it's no longer BYOB. Boo, although they do have a decent selection of beers for sale and more tables to drink them, including a covered beer garden. It's a new Austin law that city courses can't be BYOB, so I guess we can't blame them. The 9-hole, 3 par course is definitely upgraded from what it used to be, with fun murals and photo opps around, drink and club holders at the holes, new fences, etc. It's still affordable too. I love that the majority of the course is shaded by larger trees, and even though it's minutes from downtown, it feels like it's own peaceful oasis. I'm really glad they kept the heart and integrity of the Pitch and Putt intact.
google avatar

Robin M.

Yelp
Great location for a nine hole course. :) The course was fun and they had a good selection of beers. We went during a Longhorn game. So, the course was empty.
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
I go to Butler Pitch & Putt just for the food! Gimme Burger has incredible, smash-style burgers (though, the patties aren't as thin and crispy as more traditional smash). Super crispy French fries. Amazing service. Skip the $9 hotdog--it's way overpriced and just not good. In the Clubhouse, you need to get the biscuits and cookies from Little Ola's (a bakery in north Austin). They're just so, so good. Especially the tomato and egg. These may be my favorite biscuits in Austin. Warning: the clubhouse is pretty intimidating. The patrons are all "bros" and are very loud and take up a lot of space. The people behind the counter are pretty unfriendly, too. Don't let it deter you from the food, though...persevere!
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
Summary: great environment, great par 3 golf course! COURSE: well-constructed and maintained course. Great practice for the short game and up and down practicing! Shortest hole was 61 yards to the longest hole of 101 yards! WAIT: it's first come first serve, so arrive early or be prepared to wait for around an hour for the weekend rounds! There's so much to do within that hour although-- fun games such as connect 4, putting green and more! I sound like an ad, but it truly is a good time here! FOOD: grabbed a honey chicken sandwich for $10 and it was worth it. A good eat! Will come back! Perhaps, at a lighter time thiug Cheers
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
We had a good time here! Long waits so plan to come early or expect an hour or so wait. Luckily plenty of beer and food truck on site. Holes are simple, par threes. Rent or bring a wedge or putter. We had a group of 4 and it took about 2 hours with 1 hour of waiting to start. Beer reasonably priced. Parking is a nightmare !!! Aka there isn't any and our car got towed. Beware.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
This is a great par 3 course for an even better price. The course is very fun especially the first hole. I got a hole in one on the first tee with everyone watching and there was no place I'd rather spend my 15 minutes of fame. They also have some of the best beer deals in the city
google avatar

Caitlyn W.

Yelp
This place is Awesome! Perfect for a short game or beginners. Went for the first time Thursday night while they had live music. It was about an hour wait but there was plenty to do while waiting. They had tvs, corn hole, a merch shop inside to look around and also you can purchase alcohol here and drink while your waiting. I went when the sun was setting but they have a option to get glow in the dark balls. Definitely can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Amanda J.

Yelp
Super fun! A little crowded and it's a tight space, several balls from other holes/groups came flying into our area. I credit the unskilled golfer for these incidences but they definitely squeezed a lot into a small space. Everyone is very friendly, the holes are easy to navigate, and the beer cooler at hole 5 are key. It's a great activity for groups! You just need a little patience and know this is a very casual course.
google avatar

Tayo F.

Yelp
I am not a golfer, let me start there. I have done too golf a hand full if times and that is the extent of my experience but going through here felt pretty good. Like being on the green without the golf carts. I went with some buddies who are golfers and had a pretty good time. If you're even a little curious about getting into golf this may be a nice place to start learning
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
I had been longing to go here and finally a couple weeks ago got the chance! It was a Friday night and last minute we head on over and probably get there around 7ish? Well the lady working was super nice and gave us half off since the sun was setting and said we could play until it got too dark and we couldn't see anymore. So that's what we did!!! We played some super fun and quick speedy golf and got about halfway through the holes so it was definitely worth it! I can't wait to go back and play the whole course and also try night golf!!! Such a fun hidden gem right in the center of town!
google avatar

Kurtis B.

Yelp
Best described as a hidden jewel inside Austin. Was told it was a golf course until a few years ago. Now, it's a 9 hole, par 3 course. You'll only need 3 clubs and few beers to get it done. Shouldn't take much longer than an hour to finish on a busy day. If you're a decent golfer, who likes to have a good time, this is your place.

Hannah T.

Yelp
Butler is the 8th wonder of the world. And a huge reason for that is Nick and his team. Nick is so much more than your "average" golf coach. My game has completely transformed since working with Nick. He has all of the knowledge and expertise to help you grow, but also brings so much creativity and fun to each lesson. He does a great job of breaking things which makes it approachable for anyone to learn how to play. I always leave my lessons with Nick feeling like I hung out with a friend for an hour, learned a ton, and feel even more excited about the sport. For all the fellow ladies out there - I know how intimidating it can feel to get involved in a male-dominated sport like golf... but Nick and his team have always been so incredibly welcoming and non-judgmental to me and my friends. They run an awesome ladies league that is so fun regardless of your skill level while still being competitive. I love how Nick and his team have made such an effort to grow the game of golf to anyone/everyone who is interested. I can't say enough amazing things about Nick and the entire Butler team!

Ross H.

Yelp
Our family loves Butler. The facility is great for family outings. Low stress environment to get kids learning to love the game. Also, I can't say enough kind words about Nick and the entire staff. I've taken many lessons from Nick over the years. His easy to understand approach to teaching has improved my entire game, from putting all the way up to fundamental ball-striking that easily transitions from wedges, up to my long irons and woods!
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
For us locals this is always been a great spot and is currently an awesome place to come and have fun. They have everything you need to drink and snacks and an awesome way of just putting your ball in the rack to wait your turn to get in line. Everybody is super friendly it's very clean bathrooms are clean had a great time I'll definitely be back. Me and my 18-year-old son come here regularly.
google avatar

Candice N.

Yelp
Came here Saturday (9/25) around Noon and here's the pro tip(!) -- go during a UT home game, lol. There was hardly anyone there and the weather was perfect, too. The staff is really nice.
google avatar

Lori V.

Yelp
What a great idea! Bring your family and friends for an hour or two of outdoor, inexpensive fun.
google avatar

Meghan C.

Yelp
We came here yesterday for my mother-in-laws 60th birthday and it was BLAST! It was the perfect in between of golf and putt putt. We all started with a beer that we bought at the market on site. It was a super user friendly experience where all levels could play. We had beginners to experts and everyone had fun! It's a 9 hole course that is extremely walkable, with some shade in the evening. Would love go again with friends!
google avatar

Nathan B.

Yelp
Cool spot, poorly managed. If you decide to go, be ready to have large groups of "regulars" break all the rules, cut in line and management do nothing. We waited with our kids for over an hour just to have a group of over 20 men cut in line in front of us resulting in us not being able to play. Management told us they were regulars and basically that they weren't going to do anything about it. We had driven in from Liberty Hill to play and weren't able to. Left with kids crying. Won't be back.
google avatar

Sasha C.

Yelp
What a fun concept! My husband called this "putt putt 2.0" and that's the perfect description. For someone who wants to go play a game or golf but doesn't like the idea of needing the skills to drive a ball far and be surrounded by seasoned players... this is the place for you. There are 9 holes with the lengths ranging from around 60-100 yards. You don't have to be an experienced golfer to have fun at butler pitch and putt - it can be as casual as you want it to be! When you first arrive you go into the shop to purchase game play along with any balls and club rentals. This is also where you'd go to purchase any drinks. They do have a drink cart set up around hole 3/7 so you don't need to buy drinks in the shop to carry around the whole time. Once you pay for game play, you'll be directed to someone standing outside next to a ball holder where you place your golf ball to grab a spot in line. The one downside is you'll need to check back every now and then to see where you are in line since it'll be your groups turn once your golf ball is at the front of the holder! Outside the shop there are plenty of things to keep you busy while you wait. You can find anything from outdoor TVs, cornhole, and picnic tables. There is also a little putting area where you can practice while you wait. Our group had a great time. We will definitely be back to play another time!

Sandra W.

Yelp
Not only do we LOVE Butler Pitch and Putt as a family...we LOVE Coach Nick! Both of our boys have taken group lessons and private lessons with Nick; and have grown to love the sport! Nick is patient, fun, and great at what he does. After years of lessons with Nick, the boys are always excited to see him on the course on Saturday mornings and show him what they can do on their own now!

Jasmine H.

Yelp
Nick is truly the best coach! He has been working with our son for three years. When we first met Nick, we knew he would teach our son a love for the game, invest in our son's character and teach him (and us) amazing technique! We feel apart of the Butler family and it's all thanks to, Nick!

Terry S.

Yelp
I love this place. Don't come here, I want it all to myself. Two joint minimum. It's like surfing OB San Diego: locals only.

Merick M.

Yelp
Fun, relaxed environment & good time with friends! Grabbed a few brews & hit the course. No pressure, great for beginners as well.
google avatar

Emiley P.

Yelp
Love this place! I have a love/hate relationship with golf. It's one of those sports where if you're having a good day, it's amazing, but if you're hitting slice after hook, the round can't end soon enough. Butler is perfect because as a 3-par, short course, it's hard to have a bad day here! I visited over the summer during COVID and had a great time enjoying the course with my husband. You booked online, so interaction was minimal. Plus, the course is only $10/person - so a pretty affordable day date. It had rained the day before, so the course was a little soggy, but didn't damper our experience. It looks like Butler is currently closed as they undergo some maintenance and TLC. Can't wait for them to reopen and hope they stick around for the foreseeable future. An Austin gem for sure!
google avatar

Pierce H.

Yelp
This place is incredible! Amazing staff, fantastic location and amazing atmosphere! Super laid back and fun and in much better shape than expected! It's not a tour course by any means but we have plenty tour courses in the world, what we need are more courses like this. Completely inclusive, and pure fun, this is how golf should be. No matter your skill level this place will be fun. Cheap drinks don't hurt either! Get out here and have a great time!
google avatar

Bonnie R.

Yelp
We Went here for Lil Ola's biscuits on a rainy Saturday morning. We had the Tomato and egg biscuit and the Honey Chicken biscuit. Both were delicious and we will are already planning to return on a sunny morning so we can enjoy the their patio area!

Brad S.

Yelp
Horrible idea. Six women getting a lesson from the "staff" and taking 20-30 mins per whole getting lessons. Horrible golf manners. And it gets worse. Staff comes out. Starts putting groups together. No consideration of those in line. Clueless.

Bennett B.

Yelp
The way golf was meant to be played. Gem of Austin for any golf or beer fan! Our group had various experience with golf and all had a great time! All are welcome!
google avatar

Crystal R.

Yelp
Fantastic remodel of an Austin Staple! So happy it survived all the potential changes. My husband used to take me here and it was never like this. The new billboards on the greens, fresh putting green, new outdoor seating and TVs. We went to watch the Masters and it was the perfect setting. They added these delicious biscuit sandwiches that will leave you wanting more. The honey drizzle on the chicken biscuit is everything, plus it's a chicken thigh!! Beats a fried breast any day. Great beer prices and lots to do while waiting for your round. It's a 3 par so every hole should be potentially completed by 3 hits, in case you're not up on golf rules. I'm not huge golfer and not great and still have fun everytime we go! It's a happy medium between a traditional course and putt putt, where anyone at any level can have a great time with friends. You can bring your own clubs or rent some from the clubhouse but on busy days they will likely have longer wait times for those clubs. Weekdays will have less waiting times than weekends. Wear comfortable/breathable clothing, golf attire is not required. I highly recommend you bring friends, a date, family, anyone, it really is a wonderful spot for all ages and a great time on a sunny afternoon!

Yelp
Course is much improved. Greens could be a little shorter/quicker but other than that the place is a lot of fun. Cold beer and food and a nice little nine hole course right in the heart of downtown ATX.

Yelp
Hits all the spots. Literally and figuratively. Affordable fun times. Good food and drinks. Great views

Yelp
such a lovely place to spend an afternoon! these are lovely courses in a sweet tucked away spot, the drinks and golfing are fairly cheap, and it's a fun thing to do that's not completely overrun :) i will not be golfing again any time soon haha but this was a lovely place to try out!

Yelp
We had fun. It was a nice outing to play golf. You definitely will get your exercise in.. I wish they opened a bit sooner before that sun starts to beat done on you. Would definitely go again. You can definitely get good practice if you play golf for sport..

Yelp
I regret to share my disappointing experience at this establishment. Despite calling an hour ahead to confirm availability, I was informed upon arrival that there would be a 45-minute wait. Unfortunately, there was no further explanation provided. After patiently waiting for the allotted time, I inquired about the process for determining when it would be our turn, only to discover that we needed to place our ball in a ball slot machine, which was constantly being cut by other customers. this meant another 45-minute wait. As someone who had traveled from New Braunfels, this experience felt like a significant waste of time. I would caution others against visiting this establishment unless they are prepared to spend their day waiting. It is my hope that this feedback will be taken constructively, as there is room for improvement in terms of communication, wait time management, and overall customer experiences

Yelp
Great place to play a fun round of 9! They created a fun atmosphere and even have own games to play after! Highly recommend! Cold drinks on the course too!
