Where to Pick Your Own Apples and Pumpkins Near D.C. | Eater DC

"It’s a celebration of pumpkins at this Germantown orchard. Gourd picking is available Tuesdays through Sundays through the end of the month, while the Pumpkin Festival runs Wednesday through Sunday. Attractions include a corn maze, giant slides, hayrides, and cornhole. Adults can venture to adjacent Doc Waters Cidery for the fall boozy classic. The cidery also has apple picking for the whole family, available on weekends. About 30 miles from D.C." - Emily Wishingrad

My first visit to Butler's Orchard was during a school field trip for my child 10 years ago. We've been back many times, usually for fall festival events, corn mazes, hayrides, pumpkin patches, apple cider, and donuts. This week, we visited to celebrate their 75th anniversary and see all of the small improvements they are making. It is a fun local attraction, especially if you have children. I highly recommend it!

Butler's Orchard has fun pick your own opportunities throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons. Their produce is always top notch! If you want to skip pick your own, there is a cute market that also has other goodies available for purchase. Their pies in particular are to die for! In addition, we celebrated my daughter's first birthday at Butler's. The event planner was so helpful and stayed in constant communication with me. Everything we purchased for the party was served to us, and the private pick your own location was plentiful. Our guests had a great time. I would highly recommend them if you want to plan a low stress event.

Google
This was such a surprise for me to find this place! It’s great! We picked the strawberry, there’s a food place with a good selection, playgrounds for kids, little farm zoo where you can feed the animals, there’s a store/market with farm food, sweets, gifts and many more. Definitely loved it! They also offer a space to celebrate kids parties.

My first time to experience blueberry and cherry picking and it was amazing! Love this place as well as the staff. Especially those who works on the entrance gate-so friendly and vibrant! ❤️

I’m in my 40s now, and Butler’s Orchard has been part of my life since I was a kid. I’ve brought my own children here when they were younger, and it holds so many special memories for our family. No matter how many times I’ve visited over the years, it always feels like a tradition worth keeping. This year, I had their peach blueberry pie for the very first time—and it was hands down the best pie I’ve ever had (sorry, Mom!). I didn’t want to take home a whole pie, and Joseph at the market helped make it happen. He was so kind and accommodating, and honestly, it’s hard to describe exactly—but his kindness really stuck with me. That kind of genuine, thoughtful service goes a long way in my book. The market has always been my first stop at Butler’s—it’s such a warm, welcoming place. Even after all these years and countless visits, it still manages to make me smile. Thank you to Joseph and everyone at Butler’s for continuing to make this place.

So much fun! They have sour cherries, black raspberries, blueberries and strawberry picking! You can spend an entire day here picking fruit, enjoying the farm and playing in the park!

Google
We had a great time at the farm park. My son loved all the activities to do. We were disappointed in the strawberry picking though. The quality of the berries available was poor and the plants were pretty much picked clean. We hunted the whole field for an hour and only filled our container 1/3 full of mediocre berries. Will try again next year possibly as the whole set up is great, the strawberries were the only disappointment.

Google
Butler’s Orchard was so much fun for the children. We explored all the equipment, fed the animals, ate some good food and picked strawberries. Definitely a new family favorite!

Yelp
Great orchard to visit with kids: reasonably priced, well-organized, and well-designed, with knowledgeable staff -- what's not to love? For strawberry picking, you register ahead of time for a timed entry. It's $4 for each kid/adult over the age of two. You can pre-order the container you'd like. A half-flat resulted in us bringing home around 5 lbs of strawberries. You take a short open-air trolley to the strawberry field where you can pick to your heart's content. The strawberry plants were plentiful and the trolley came by every few minutes. Back at the farm, there's a little stand selling food with seating benches, an area for private birthday parties, a petting zoo with the cleanest animals I think I've ever seen (goats, pigs, sheep, a donkey), and a few cute little wooden/tractor-themed playground structures and slides to entertain the kiddos. We'll definitely be back for other fruit and pumpkins!

Yelp
Butler's Orchard knows what they are doing when it comes to fall activities. There were so many activities for kids! My toddler especially loved to feed the farm animals and jump on the hill top hops. They have some of your classic fall activities such as hayrides and a corn maze. In the fall they have both apple picking and pumpkin picking. During other seasons they have a variety of other produce to pick. I saw some signs for berry picking for example. For the adults they have cider in the back end on the grounds. It was $9 a glass, on the pricey end. I was a but disappointed they were out of half their ciders when I stopped by their stand. I still enjoy the cider I tried though. There are plenty of places to get food while you are there but you can bring in food if you want as well. If you are coming for the fall festival (this includes picking apples or pumpkins) buy your tickets in advance. They have a limit on how many people they let in. I'm glad they do though cus it was already packed so I can't imagine how crowded it would get if they left the gates open for everyone. On your way out make sure to stop at the marketplace they have lots of goodies to bring home! Highly recommend to anyone with children!

Yelp
I've been to Butler's Orchard three times -- 2016, 2021, and this year, and it's been a wonderful experience each time! We usually come here for apple picking, which is best done in September, however there were still plenty of good quality gala apples this year when we went on October 1st for the Pumpkin Festival. The Pumpkin Festival is always a huge hit, and there is just too much to do and it is so much fun! Make sure you bring food and water from home because lines for the food stands can get very long. My favorites are the apple cider donuts as well as the apple cider drink, which are absolutely fantastic. Parking is easy and free. The Pumpkin Festival is $15 a person if you buy it in advance online, plus a $1.50 fee for each ticket. I think they raised the price this year, but it felt worthwhile still because there was just so much to do. I think the best age for the Pumpkin Festival would be 2 to 6 years old. The corn maze and hayrides are a lot of fun, so don't miss that. Pumpkin and apple picking are in separate areas that you have to drive to, separate from the pumpkin festival. This has become an annual tradition for my family to visit Butler's Orchard ever since we moved to the DMV, and we love going each year! 5/5

Yelp
LOVE butlers orchard. they have events for kiddos throughout the year with lots of activities, food, + drinks (including alcohol)

Yelp
The farm is vibrant and peaceful. Freshly picked blackberries taste amazing. Beautiful planting grounds, with flowers and farm animals to watch and feed as well. I highly recommend for anyone who loves picking fresh fruits and beautiful flowers. They also have a fun kiddie play area that the kids enjoy very much.

Yelp
Wanted to go apple picking with the fam and this was recommended. I made reservations online, which I later realized really isn't needed, as you can pay on site. Also, online they let you know what is best to pick at that time, which I found really helpful. Once inside, you drive your car to the respective location, pick up your bags and get to picking! We specifically went to pick apples and they had many to choose from. I also thought it would be awesome to pick some flowers, but I was less than thrilled about what was found. They have a petting farm for the kiddos, and a playground as well. The store was pretty cool, with varying items from fresh produce, to jarred items, and knick knacks. I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years. Do I like the entry fee? No, but I ended up getting a season pass. With the season pass, you get 10% off, and you don't need a reservation. I like the flexibility of going at the last minute. During this occasion, I was there to pick strawberries. It is only the start of the season. The website indicated it is good picking. It took me about an hour and half to pick a half flat. The strawberries were mostly small with the occasion of bigger ones. However, the strawberries were sweet and flavorful. I am sure I will be back for more strawberries within a week.

Yelp
Very cute orchard with lots of fun family-friendly activities and good food. French fries with chili & cheese are da bomb. Italian sausage was also good, and apple cider donuts were delicious--warm, sweet, and actually pretty cheap. We thought the apple cider drink was rather too sweet though--it was thick and hot but kind of too sweet for us. The pumpkin picking patch was cute and had lots of pumpkins to pick from. Great cute spot for a date or a family outing with young kids. Quite spacious orchard (though admittedly, this was my first orchard visit in the DMV area, so I have no other places to compare with, but we were very satisfied with this place). Service was good everywhere, and parking was very easy.

Yelp
This is a popular spot so do plan ahead and get online reservations. I also recommend always coming here during the mornings. The afternoon is hot and it can get packed pretty quick. They have a lot of fields for picking. Check the calendar. I went here for strawberry picking and it was running low when I got here. When they realized there were no more strawberries, they directed everyone to another place to get on a tractor and into another field. I like the second one a lot more because of the views and the experience. The strawberries were not the star of the day. It was more so the experience of going out and doing something with friends. That's what this place offers. They have portable toilets here and a washing hand station and a place with farm animals. You can pet the goats. They are always pretty hungry. Your car should be okay driving around grass and rocks. It can get dusty too. They have a farmers market to buy some fruits and vegetables. But, the bread and butter is the pick your own.

Yelp
Awesome farm area filled with plenty of family fun activities. I went exploring to Butler's Farm during the Pumpkin Festival. There's a corn maze, petting zoo, playground, and much more. The multiple slides had my kid captives. The food was good, I grabbed an Italian sausage to snack on. We went to the pumpkin patch to pick out a pumpkin to take home. My favorite part of the trip was the apple orchard. The weather was perfect for picking apples and it's such a fun activity to do with children. The market was packed with plenty of produce and locally made items. Can't wait to return during Sunflower season.

Yelp
Butlers Orchard is the perfect place for some fall fun with your entire family! I go every fall with my friends and it always such a wonderful experience.

Yelp
This was my first time picking my own flowers. I usually come for the produce, but wanted to try something different. I was fortunate to attend the final flower picking workshop of the season. The instructor was extremely knowledgeable and showed us some tips on how to enhance our bouquets. It's also officially the start of apple picking season, so the farm was packed with families. I highly recommend getting there early as parking is limited. There are separate fields for picking apples, flowers, herbs, berries, etc.

Yelp
Been at this location once before and loved coming to pick apples. This time around, I went for a Pumpkin Festival with some friends and let me tell you if you have kids this is the place to be!!! Even as an adult there was a lot for us to do between the corn maze, apple picking, hay rides, etc. My favorite part about coming here has to be the market!!! I can't leave without stocking up on apple cider donuts, fresh apple cider, and other fun treats. Word on the street is Butler's has the best kettle corn and I believe it cause the bag I bought was gone in like 2 days! Also pro tip, if you're going to go pick apples make sure to do so by mid October. By the time we went there weren't many left :(

Yelp
Opens at 9 am right on the dot. Pick up of Thanksgiving pies could have been a bit better organized but was still pretty fast. This was our first year ordering from Butler's, and we are not disappointed. I like warn pies, so we did pop the pumpkin pie in the oven for a bit. The pecan pie was left out for about 30 min before we cut into it. Both were tasty, and the apple was not overly sweet! Both paired well with fresh whipped cream (made from cream I picked up from the Butler's market, too!) I also picked up fresh broccoli and a really great truffle mustard that went wonderful with turkey and ham! I'm looking forward to other great things next time I stop in to shop!

Yelp
Fall Festival was a blast for the kids! They have a lot of attractions from face painting to horse riding and really good bbq food! The cider and apple cider doughnuts were great as well. Took a Hayride around the farm and kids really enjoyed themselves! Weekend tickets were $15 each person. Make sure to bring cash! Some attractions only take cash payments.

Yelp
My husband and I went there for the first time a few weeks ago. It was wonderful! There was a wide variety of pumpkins - shapes, sizes, and colors. There were many activities for both children and adults. There was a petting zoo area, hayrides, a corn maze, play areas for kids, and more. Everything was spread out, so it didn't feel crowded. The food was great. We bought a dozen apple cider donuts and they were excellent. There was a nice variety of food, too. Burgers, pizza, pulled pork, nuggets, and plenty of other options were available. I cannot stress enough how efficient they are with the check-in process. This is the smoothest process I've experienced after attending many events this year; that includes festivals, fairs, ghost walks, etc. I highly recommend Butler's Orchard.

Yelp
Loved going to Butlers Orchard this weekend! I would say that the Orchard is definitely worth the price, especially if you are going with children. I went with a friend, and no children, so they were a few activities we were not able to do, but we still had a great time overall. For adults, there is food, drinks, the petting zoo, the hayride, the giant corn maze, the pumpkin masher/canon, and our favorite part was getting our pumpkins at the end! If you are going with kids, there are many more activities to do such as slides, jumpers, pony rides, a playground, etc. Overall, a great atmosphere, music always playing, and everyone having fun outside!

Yelp
What an incredible experience we had picking pumpkins and shopping for fresh local produce at Butler's Orchard. Although a bit pricey and packed, Butler's Orchard provided a memorable experience for visitors by providing lots of photo opportunities and a variety of colors of beautiful pumpkins, as well as true local apple cider and PHENOMENAL kettle corn. My largest complaint about the pumpkin picking field (which is a suggestion for next year) is that the lines to pay are EXTREMELY long, and can take 20-30 minutes. They clearly need more pay stations, as well as more wheelbarrows! Regardless, we will definitely be back to visit the market. I think this will be our main pumpkin-picking spot for as long as we live in MoCo!

Yelp
I'd come back to this farm to pick my own fruit/veg again. And the Cider Donuts, freshly made, are divine. There are a few things that knocked off the fifth star for this farm so let's get into that now. The cons: There's a $4 per person entrance fee to get into the park, regardless of if you end up picking anything. Good news, the market (different from The Farmer's Porch, but it does have baked goods as well) is located before the paid entrance to the farm. The blueberry and strawberry fields all had at least one attendant to sell the various picking containers, but the sweet pea field did not. Apparently you had to buy the bags at another location so my partner and I ditched picking peas and headed out. It would've been nice if that information had either been posted somewhere, or better yet, they had an attendant at the field itself to sell the picking bags. You have to take a farm owned ride to the blueberry field. Not the biggest inconvenience but it takes a little while to get there. Just be prepared for that ride and be patient, there is no parking by the fields and part of the lane up is one car at a time so there really is no other way. The Farmers Porch doesn't have great food. Granted, we only tried three things, but two of those were complete busts. The Cider Donuts were a hit, fresh, doughy, and delicious. The strawberry rolled cake was not good. The strawberries are from the farm but it's a jam and not that great. The blueberry lemon hand pie also uses blueberries from the farm. While better than the strawberry cake it also wasn't that great. The lemon glaze was probably my favourite part. And I'd call it a turnover, not a hand pie. Overall I'd give The Farmers Porch 3*. The pros: Apple Cider Donuts. Hot. Fresh. Perfect texture. Delicious. The market. It has a lot of options, not all of it Butler provided. Prices are typical of farmer's markets, on the higher end, but usually worth it. We went and picked strawberries at the very end of the season and were pleasantly surprised with how many strawberries we found. And they were delicious. The blueberry patch was well organized. There are some activities for younger kids; slides, a playground, and goats (not sure if you can pet or feed them) to name a few. I didn't explore these options seeing as we were sans kids and focused elsewhere.

Yelp
This is my second time visiting Butler's Orchard and it has always been an amazing experience. This is a one stop shop for an entire family day of fun. You can get lost in the Corn Maze. You can ride the tractor hayrides multiple times. There is also the hayloft stack where kids can run around and jump. They have multiple inflatables where kids can tumble and enjoy. The latest addition is the pile of corn kernels where you can lay and roll around. It is quite dangerous for our toddler as he was mouthing on the corn which was a choking hazard. Nevertheless, it is great for older kids. There is a section down the road where you can pick your own apples and also pumpkins. They have wheel barrows that you can use when you have a so many to pick. They have also animals where you can interact such as chickens, pigs, donkeys, and horses. Children can also ride in the horse too for a small fee. There are adequate areas for washing hands and also porta potties. If you go around 11AM already, it will be difficult to get lunch as they lines do get really long. You must not leave this place without trying the apple cider donuts and also the apple cider drink. They have a separate store near the entrance where you can get your own produce including our favorite apple butter spread. I look forward to coming back again next year to pick more apples. I highly recommend to always come early in the season so you still have apples to pick.

Yelp
I've been visiting butlers orchard for years! My family consist of all October babies so every fall we make our way over and enjoy the activities and bring home a pumpkin or two. This year was no different. They have some of the best adult apple cider, apple donuts, and more. We got lost in the corn maze and the hayride is always a good time. Everything costs here but don't be alarmed as I'm sure they need the money for the upkeep with all the visitors that come through every year. Grab the fam and enjoy this gem!

Yelp
One of must visit farm during Pumpkin Festival! This farm offers more friendly activities for smaller kids, less then 5yy, with all the wooden trains, buses, haylofts, the jumping pillows, the corn box. Don't forget the petting and feeding barn animals, these are our favorites! Also the hayrides experience with some Halloween decorations in the woods along the rides, my favorite is the hayride where you get to relax and enjoy the fall view. We were there during the weekdays, so not too crowded, almost feel like you own the farm and all the amusement. Thanks to @_austinfamilyadventures @familytripguides and @the.columbiamom for the tips! Yelp
This morning I drove with the family plus dog to Butler's Orchard to buy a Christmas tree. I was surprised they wanted me to pay a $5 entry fee to buy a precut tree. And on top of that, no pets allowed on the farm? -- so I turned around and looked for another farm nearby and found FOX HOLLOW FARM. Bought a beautiful and reasonably priced tree and a bunch of other items (wreath, honey, eggnog, garlic, eggs). Not only were they super friendly, but also gave us an apple pie free of charge. We had a wonderful experience and so did our dog. I am glad we had a bad experience at Butlers so that we could find this local little gem!

Yelp
I have loved Butler's Orchard--ever since I brought my kids to a fun Easter event when they were little. Butler's always has a fun event planned--as well as just the chance to go out in the fields and pick berries (or in the case of the last time I was there--flowers)! My friend and I picked flowers in the field and then an instructor from Flowered showed us how to arrange the flowers into the perfect bouquet. She even accompanied us into the field--in order to find focal flowers, fillers, etc. I'm looking forward to going back to pick fresh crops with my daughter and granddaughter. You can reserve a time in advance--to pick berries or vegetables or even the beautiful blooms in the flower garden. This is truly a fun, relaxing outing for the whole family!!

Yelp
It was a sweltering summer day for berry picking but so worth it too. We had tons of fun selecting the choicest fruit and eating any that were too ripe. The best ones are hidden, so remember to duck and look into the thickest, shadiest patches! The storefront was also super cute with so much merchandise and food. The berry and apple pies and cider donuts are to die for, the books were cool, and the jars upon jars of preserves made me wish I could sweep 'em all. Let's not forget the fruit slushies too - a little too sweet, but overall refreshing after getting parched in direct sunlight. I'll remember this trip very vividly for years, and would welcome a chance to go back and visit again some day. Highly recommend this experience to anyone who's not afraid to get a little grimy!

Yelp
This is the place to come get your black raspberries every July. I picked 22 pints just so I could have enough to last a year, making jellies and such. Bring your own sun protection!

Lisa K.

Yelp
Stopped in at the farm market - great selection of fresh produce and loads of other fun and interesting items for sale. The blackberry pie we bought was not cheap but worth every penny - best pie we ever ate!!! Seriously good. Everyone raved about it, especially served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a handful of the farm's freshly picked blackberries on the side. The crust was not only a thing of beauty but also delicious. Wish I could bake like that!

Yelp
Visited Butler's Orchard on Sunday for a date and it was amazing and such a good experience! I was so ready for all the fall festivities and I was really looking forward to pumpkin picking which definitely did not disappoint! The event space is currently operating through COVID19 by mandating people to wear masks, implementing the 6 feet apart with social distancing (even while we're outdoors) and they provide hand sanitizers throughout the area. Entry tickets should be purchased online prior to the event in order to limit the number of those coming in. I know the first thing I always look forward to is drinking fresh apple cider. Prices aren't anything outrageous but it is still pricey for just a cup of your chosen beverage. Still, I pay it because it's rare that I ever get to drink freshly made apple cider regularly like that. Parking was simple and easy to navigate. There's plentiful amount of spots and they're all close to all the events. There's so much food to try here as well as activities to do for all ages. Would totally recommend to anyone looking for a fun date, things to with friends and family or just celebrating fall in general.

Yelp
Butler's Orchard is an absolute gem in Montgomery County. My family has been going here for decades and is never disappointed. The produce and pick your own experience can't be beat!

Yelp
I think I found a new holiday tradition!!! Prior to visiting , I checked online to see if they had wreaths. I thought they would just be premade ones but when I got there I was in for a treat! They have a complete wreath workshop where you can completely 100% customize a wreath !!! They had every decoration imaginable. You could then watch them assemble your wreath. They took the time to make sure I liked the placement of each piece I picked out. The wreathes start at around $25 plus the price of each decoration you pick so it can get expensive depending on how extravagant you want to be but tbh the price was super reasonable. My total came to about $60 which included the design fee. I've paid way more for a basic premade wreath. Such a unique experience!! Will Definitely be going again next holiday season!!

Yelp
Fruit picking at Butler's Orchard is a relaxing and healthy social distancing activity to do outside. They have a good variety amount of fruit, veggies, and plants to pick. I went on a Thursday, towards the end of the blueberry cycle and beginning of the BlackBerry cycle. The blackberries were huge and plenty to pick from. I easily filled my container within 15 minutes. It was not crowded and easily to stay away from other people. At the moment, because of Covid-19, you have to keep your mask on at all times. You have to pick and pay for a time slot online. They only let a certain amount of people in each slot. It's $3 per person for entry, $5.50 per container, and I think $1 for online processing fee. You may not bring your own container. If you want to keep picking more fruit, there is someone their for assistance who will sell you another container. After I picked my fruit, I went to say hi to the farm animals. They have two donkeys, chickens, and a couple of goats. You can feed the goats for $1.50 for a baggie of food. I also went to the flower and vegetable section and picked out cilantro, basil, and parsley. You can fill a container for $10 or pay $.50 per stem. They also have a sunflower field. Butler's Orchard is a big and beautiful farm. Very clean and great for pictures! On your way there or before you leave, check out their market, which sells frozen meats, veggies, and knick knacks. They also had yummy apple cider donuts.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to visit during the fall. I love their fall festival. It was a bit crowed this year when we went. There was a long car line that blocked the streets while coming but I guess that's how you know it's popular. I recommend getting tickets online. Once they reach their capacity, they won't let you in. It is also very convenient to order online. You can just show them your email and the process goes quickly. There was a live band playing, slides, corn maze and other mazes, tractor rides, pony rides, playground, jumping pads, animals (sheep, pig, donkey, chickens, goats) to see and feed, and a small pumpkin patch. There's so much to do here that we ran out of time. The kids love coming here and so do the adults.

Yelp
Glad we got a chance to visit this past July 4th weekend. Due to the pandemic, you have to purchase timed tickets in advance but the website was pretty easy to navigate and figure out. Since it was our first time we were a little confused about the parking lot for the market. So we parked there and walked around a little bit before we realized that we actually needed to drive in further to get to the 'pick your own' parking lot area. There was a check in spot that split into two lanes which went fairly quickly. After scanning my QR code we got our container, feed for the goats and wrist bands. The goats were pretty cute although there was a bully that tried to keep all the food to himself. The chickens were also fun to watch. We didn't have to wait very long to board the trolley to be taken to the blueberry fields around 11 am. It was fun to walk along the rows and hand pick the blueberries we wanted. It was pretty easy to fill up the container. After getting back to the parking lot area I saw slides behind the barn where they sell food where you sit on burlap sacks which was cool to try. Overall wasn't expecting so many additional activities to be able to do besides berry picking. Would be neat to come back to try picking other things like strawberries, raspberries or apples sometime. Their website has a helpful schedule and guide of how good the picking status is for certain items.

Yelp
This is for Butler's Orchard Farm Market (Curbside Ordering) that sells items like groceries, baked goods, dairy/eggs/meat, gifts, produce to name a few as we go through covid-19. On a recent visit, I just purchased a few items. The ordering process was pretty easy: Go to their website, select the items you want to purchase (images and prices are provided). Note that each week they do sell different items and if any item just has a few left or is sold out, they do note it on the page - this notation helps a lot. Once you have selected your items, you then pick the date & time that you want to pick up your items (curbside) - it only showed 5 days out. They will email you once your order is confirmed and that it is ready to be picked up on that said date & time you had initially selected. You then drive to Butler's Orchard and once in the lot, there are 2 lanes - the Left for Curbside orders and the Right for Deliveries. As I proceeded to the left, I drove all the way up to the Check-In Sign (I was a few minutes early). An employee came near the vehicle and I provided my name on a piece of paper (I did not have to open my window). They then bring your items to your trunk with a smile (well I could see their smile in their eyes). I only ordered Bread, Sausage Patties (Maple), Trail Mix and Donuts. I mainly wanted to try their Apple Cider Donuts (they sell it in 1/2 dozen). I haven't had donuts in a long while. After taking my first bite, they were so good I wanted to scarf down what was left, but saved them for a later day (not too late). Next time I will order more. One of my items was incorrect and so I had to drive back to do an exchange (I did call when I discovered the error and spoke to someone that gave me the okay to come back and do the exchange). I will definitely purchase from them again. They had a wide array of items to select from and the employees were pleasant.

Yelp
We went today on a weekday when we hoped it wouldn't be as crowded as a weekend might be--looks like other DC parents had the same idea with the day off of school! Even so, love the timed tickets--totally think that should continue beyond COVID times. There were a bunch of people, but everyone was masked and there was enough space to distance. What's open on weekdays and weekends is posted on their site. We enjoyed the slides, the animals, the hay ride (not packed in!), jumping in the hay, and climbing the hay bales. We stopped at the market on the way out, and because it's so small I dashed in by myself for some homemade pies. The one thing I always forget with this farm is HOW LONG the food wait can be at the festival, especially when you have hungry kids. Definitely suggest bringing a picnic lunch or eating an early lunch before the line gets too long. You have to drive to pick your pumpkins, so don't expect to get them as usual on the hay ride. The hay ride was still nice, even without a destination!

Yelp
I've come here 2 times. The first time was fall 2021 it was $15 per person. The second time was today it was $17 per person. The lady at the gate was friendly. They take cash and card. You pretty much pay for everything in there which really sucks for the amount of $$ you pay. $6 pony farms. The pumpkin you pay 75 cents per lbs of the pumpkin. They have food for pay. The hayrides I think are free not sure we were able to do it this time. The face painting is between $10-$20. Friendly this lady that painted my child. Porta johns for bathroom. Please make sure you have your own toilet paper because there was none in majority of them and no one really checking to fulfill them either. There is a lot to do. But everything you gotta pretty much pay for and that sucks. Not complaining much because my child had fun. But I rather take her elsewhere. Parking isn't bad. Staff has been friendly when we've gone. The pant farms should be at least 4 circles not 2...

Yelp
I've been to the orchard for berry picking which was absolutely amazing but this review is primary for the bonfire option. Do not waste your money as the $300 price is not aligned with the services received. The bonfire that was included was something I definitely could have done in my backyard. I did reach out to the merchant to voice was complaint and was informed that a refund was not warranted. Understandable, but if I am able to save anyone from the $300 value, I will. Again, the fruit and berry picking was awesome but I would not recommend hosting a bonfire through Butlers Orchard.

Yelp
Came back here for their fall festival and loved it! The highlights were the activities and the live music. The music added to the fall energy, and the slides and apple picking were so fun. The food wasn't anything special, except for the apple cider donut sundae--best I've had in the area. You have to go to this!

Yelp
Butler's Orchard is a popular fall field trip destination for schools, churches & other community groups. I came here with my grandson as a chaperone. He attends the first grade at the Holy Cross school. After a bumpy school bus ride, we arrived at this family-owned farm & walked to the hayride entrance. Wagon after wagon pulled up to let off the students, chaperones & teachers before they load up another group. It was a horse drawn wagon with a warm hay lined bed. The road was surrounded by a lot of Halloween decorations. In about 6 minutes we arrived at a large pumpkin patch. Most of the pumpkins were small to medium in size. My grandson & his friend ran around more than they looked but left with a nice pumpkin anyway! After the hay ride they headed over to the hay bale maze. It had walls taller than I am so the children not only roamed through it but climbed up them. They came back here several times before we took the bus back to school. Soon it was time for lunch & we ate at the picnic tables are adjacent to the playground. The kids and I enjoyed packed lunches. They also spent some time on the playground. My daughter came here also to chaperone for my granddaughter. She bought a special treat for us. It was Butler's Orchard apple cider donuts. I was little bit disappointed with the flavor. They only had a hint of sweetness with a light apple taste. I guess I was expecting something closer to an apple fritter! We had group photo taken before leaving. Until next time be kind to each other. #butlersorchard #fieldtrip #pumpkinpatch @yelpdc #halloween #hayrides

Yelp
This is HANDS DOWN my favorite farm for families with little ones! We came earlier this year for the sunflower festival and came again today for the pumpkin festival...they have literally everything you can imagine! Huge fun burlap sack slides, normal slides, all kinds of playgrounds, bounce pads, spiderweb climbing area, corn maze, hay to play in, hay bail maze, animals to feed, so many sitting areas, live music, YUMMY FOOD (and the servers were dressed up today), tons of great spots to take photos, pony rides, a market, apple picking, pumpkin picking, flower picking... we could literally spend a whole weekend here! One day is not enough! Love this place!

Yelp
Over the last 16 years of residency in the neighborhood I have made it an annual requirement that I stop by the orchard during harvest. The produce and goods are so fresh and healthy!!! So fortunate to have Butler's down the road!!!!

Yelp
If I had known that there was a place to fulfill my apple picking, hot girl fall dreams just thirty minutes from DC I would have been a regular at Butler's Orchard many, many years ago! When I arrived I had my choice of seasonal harvesting fields which included sunflowers, raspberries, potatoes, and early season apples. We decided to go to the apple area where they had large picnic areas, multiple playgrounds, and a wagon ride that took you straight to apple madness! We came in late September so we had limited selection in apples but what we received was small and sweet -- perfect for toddler hands! On the way out we stopped by the farm store for some yellow watermelon, local goodies, and their famous icies (we got strawberry since they didn't have apple cider in yet!). The icies were delicious and such a treat on a hot day! I'll definitely be back again to try some of their other apple varieties. If you have a small child I'd recommend coming early so you can take full advantage of the day -- there are so many things to do and see!

Yelp
Fun place to pick blackberries! Pretty surroundings, plenty of space and berries to accommodate numerous customers. Many activities for kids.

Yelp
Great tart cherries but jam had mold with expiration of 2025. It's a nice market overall and this was very disappointing

Yelp
It's a nice area with lots of fields but overall disappointed in the strawberry picking. Checked what the rating was for the day on the website and it said "good". We headed over there and purchased another half flat to go with the quart that was bought with entry to the field. The front half was either moldy, smashed or beyond ripe. We trudged on hoping for more "in the back" as was suggested only to find more of the same. It was truly a struggle to fill the half flat with strawberries that were tiny, maybe 8 were of decent size. We didn't fill the quart at all. Left it empty. The last straw was to see that almost all the strawberries were mushy and overripe today. 2 days after picking. We won't be coming back to butlers orchard when I feel we were essentially tricked with "good"picking. There should've been a cutoff point where they said that the picking wasn't worth it.

Yelp
"We're jammin', jammin', and I hope you like jammin' too." - Bob Marley They sell a lot of jam. Besides jam talk though, this place only 3 stars because there was no apple picking the autumn day I went even though my friend had just called a few days prior and was told there would be. Also, they weren't even producing apple cider yet so it was a huge let down. I mean, there should be some rule that after labor day there needs to be apple cider ready to go. I know, it depends on the seasonality/harvesting of apples, but this is American dagnammit. Their apple cider donuts are delicious though and a must-buy item. Warm them up and consume with milk for a great time. If the stars align and everything you seek is available when you visit, then this place is a great wholesome fun for the entire family.

Yelp
I've been coming to Butler's Orchard since I was a kid, and it's still a blast to visit as an adult! There's a variety of pick your own crops from May to December and seasonal events like Bunnyland, the Sunflower Spectacular, and the Pumpkin Festival. The website is updated regularly to reflect picking conditions for each crop, so we decided to go for blackberries and herbs this time. Some of the processes have been streamlined and digitized since Covid. Reservations are required for pick your own, but it's super fast and convenient to do them online. The price of the produce is included when you reserve online, so no need to wait in line to get your containers weighed and paid for after picking. Aside from pick your own, there are plenty of other things to do and see. The small reservation fee includes admission to a playground, slides, and the Barnyard Buddies area where you can say hello to sheep, pigs, donkeys, chickens, and goats. We added a cup of goat feed for $2 when we made our reservation online, so we got some extra attention from the adorable goats. On our way out, we stopped by the indoor market to browse local goods and grab slushies for the road. A delightful outing from start to finish!
